Chapter Six: Shark to Shark, Part One

It was of course a nice day in Pre-revolutionary Boston, the birds were singing and the influenza had only killed one-fourth of the population that year, little to no tea was being spilled in the harbor but the town wouldn't be in focus today if it was going to be all peaceful.

So of course somewhere between the Old Corner Bookstore and the Old South Meeting House, back in their days the Corner Bookstore and the South Meeting House, a villain appeared. It was nice in Boston, the midday sun shining above them, so that meant it was at least nighttime in its parallel world.

People were walking around the streets, enjoying the newly revealed technology of an even more so rapidly advancing world. It seemed to be that something new was being revealed everyday now more or less. This was of course the governments of both worlds attempting to sync their technology.

Then when they were around the same period, both could announce they discovered a parallel world, somehow miraculously they have made contact and they have formed a rift together. Not that any of the citizens even would have cared, they didn't know if they were pawns or anything in this game.

So anyway standing around in the center of an alley, was a green and yellow circular rift. And the man of the hour was about to step out of it, and reveal his presence to the whole world. The portals stayed stagnate for a few seconds as only the wind blew through it. Any day now he will arrive.

After a few seconds, a large shark jumped threw his coattails blowing in the wind as he walked into the Victorian world. He was of course, Bright, the interdimensional shark everybody loves. Standing at the closing rift with a set of Victorian clothes on his body, he pulled a vile to his face and viewed it.

He splashed the liquid vile around, viewing how his formula shined in the light bubbling as it took in the oxygen. He smiled and it opened the vile, walking out of the dark alley and into the Bostonian sun. Looking around he found him a fine specimen walking down the streets and approaching him.

Walking nearby, Bright raised his hand and put himself in front of the man. He pulled back his hand and splashed the vile forward. The liquid splashed on the man, the revolutionary man looking at himself and trying to wipe the solution off. It was mid-November and staying out in the cold with wet clothes could be your death.

Through osmosis, the liquid was absorbed into the man's skin and the molecules entered the cell. The molecules were a collection of enzymes and a virus and as they entered the nucleus of the cell they began their job. The enzymes went first, taking away the RNA and holding back the normal cell functions.

The virus then began, taking the two strands of DNA and adding to it. Instead laying down its own third strand, connecting to it and making sure the new DNA was stable and this was repeated over the whole body, the liquid being released through the body and makings sure every single cell was transformed.

All the while before the man could react further, let alone act his body started to bubble as he took in the vial's solution. His bubbling skin was replaced with scales, the bubbles exploding and spraying more solution on the ground. This followed for his whole body, spreading over him like moss on the north side of a tree.

“Good transform into your true form, let the beast overtake your body and allow your feral side to come out." Bright chanted as he viewed the transformation, people stopping and looking in morbid curiosity or running away like hell had come for them.

The man's skeleton changed, bones gaining length and width, causing the man to stretch out and grow larger as he transformed. His face changed his mouth jutting out and his teeth becoming sharper and longer. His nose pointed out and his head became a bit more elongated.

From his shoulder bones, two large bones grew out backwards, scales growing along them as they expanded out and then bent before a joint formed. A thin membrane formed over the bones, becoming a set of wings behind his body. They folded up and became close to his body.

Then in the beginning of the final stages, his brain finally transformed his body giving into the pain and control being given to Bright. His eyes changed to blue and his body gleamed in the midday sun. He roared out and frightened the entire town.

Bright smiled as his creation, perhaps this time he would be able to conquer a planet. However, as he looked around he figured there would be none of those pesky Outsiders or those nuclear power plants. Signaling his single dragon, it picked him up by the hands and he soared above the city.

However, this time he was prepared. The liquid exploded from there bubbles and the DNA would be self-replicating. In a few hours or a day on all the people the solution splashed onto they too would be changed into a dragon as well.

Bright smiled as he imaged the town under his control. It would be glorious, soon this town and then further along the world. He would fight for control as he exterminated the entire town and the entire country and soon the world. Dragons invading town, the god fearing people having no guns or weapons strong enough to combat them.

He smiled knowing at what he would was doing, exterminating that pesky human race it was what they deserved and he would make sure they got all the pain they needed. He smiled knowing that the dragon invasion had finally begun.

However, in the meantime other forces were working on their own devious plans. Father Absalom walked around the upper layers of his church looking at what god had presented him. Stuck in chains that connected the bell was a large reptilian beast, wings extended and a liquid coming off his body.

He knew what this was, a dragon, the beasts of hell coming to Earth and preparing it for the invasion that the shark would led, of course Father Absalom was right in thinking it was a shark, but it wasn't the shark that he had encountered before.

He looked at the dragon and knew it needed punishment for being the heathen of hell. He grabbed a vile of holy water, blessing it with his own as he hoped to exorcise the demon in the man's body. Opening the value a bit, he recited a payer in his own head and slashed the water onto the demon.

The dragon didn't react to the water, like a demon would and as Father Absalom looked at the dragon he wondered what demon had the power to resist god's blessed liquid. He splashed it again and grabbed his bible from the desk.

As with most exorcisms, they simply hadn't discovered mental illness yet, things once said to be demons now said to simple malfunctions of the brain. And still Father Absalom went on, reading Latin out of the bible and hoping that the demon would be removed from the body.

Of course there would be no dead spinning and raising beds nor was there a supply of pea soup on demand. Father Absalom went on mentally combating the dragon with techniques that would not work. And he got fed up, finding that his chanting and holy water was not working.

“Fine then demon, if you do not want to leave I will send you back to hell held onto the body you are inhabiting!" Absalom said as he pulled out a dagger, and covered it in holy water. He held it the demon's stomach and pushed it into the man's body.

Blood and entrails fell out of his body and dragon tried to escape as his life was threatened. He screamed out and twisted around getting himself caught up in the chains. The priest smiled as he knew the demon would fell all the pain the body was being inflicted.

The dragon screamed out, trying to call for help but its sound getting trapped in the bell of the church. It closed it eyes and it died, its body falling on the ground and blood spilling out on the church. Absalom quickly pulled the dragon away, making sure that its blood wasn't gathering in one area, lest blood fall from the church's ceiling.

Taking the dragon outside through the backdoor he made sure no one was watching and he placed the demon inside a hay pile making sure it covered and no one would discover the demon. He wiped the blood of his gloves and threw them into the hay pile as well. He made sure that no blood had gotten on his clothes or his body lest he wanted a demon in his body.

He went back into his church closing the door and making sure no one in the church had noticed him. He felt no guilt on his soul instead he felt proud, he felt that he had helped god in his continuous battle against the demons and armies of hell.

“What do you mean hell is going to be raised on Earth, in hell is opening up because that would involve me, however other forms of hell raising I cannot be involved in." Benji said somewhat seriously and somewhat jokingly at the same time. Hell being raised on Earth kind of was symbolic with Greg returning with a large force of demons and he wasn't ready.

“Hell as in large dragons are appearing on the streets and slowly destroying the pre-revolutionary city they hiding in the underground tunnels and attacking citizens. People are being maimed in daylight, the city is in terror; so yes that is hell being raised." Elliot said as she walked with Benji down the main street in present Boston, behind her Isen and Blake following.

“Ok, now then why should I care?" Benji asked as he looked at Elliot and decided to have a bit of fun with her, he knew she wouldn't have a reason or a least couldn't without pointing a gun to her head. Of course, obviousness was clearly not her point and she did take out a gun and point it right at Benji's head.

“You will help because people are dying and I don't like when people die. Now then you'll get your ass over to the revolutionary world with us or I'll blow your brains out right here and now." Elliot said being blunt to say the least, Benji paused not wanting to give the girl a reason to pull the trigger.

“So you need my help, that's what I'm getting out of this conversation." Benji said making a smirk as Elliot groaned and pulled the gun away, despite knowing that Benji would literally milk every single joke out of the situation. She rolled her eyes and placed her pistol back into its holster.

“Ok fine, Benji your powers are amazing. I have no idea how other than pulling shit out of your ass that you could survive this long. However, you are crafty and smart and for this situation I believe that you would be a good asset in this situation." Elliot said swallowing her pride for a second and boosting Benji's ego.

“So what you're saying is that you think I have some good assets, sorry Elliot but this shark here is a bit gay for your tastes." Benji said as he annoyed Elliot, knowing she would have every single reason to shoot him, but the fact that she needed him would remain above them all.

“I think you need to stop creeping on my man's assets, Elliot." Behind them Benji internally groaned as he realized that this wasn't a double-fraction operation, but at least a triple fraction. Martin's voice rang in his ears and he didn't hear any anger or regret so he figured that if the lizard was willing to swallow his pride he might as well.

“Hello Martin, I say we put the past behind us and perhaps I will try to spare some humanoids today." Benji said trying to compromise with Martin, he didn't want both of them to fight about what was going to happen today. He could feel the lizard relishing in the advantage he now had.

“Ah yes, I see you two have met before. Well then no need for introductions to each other, we already know each other then." Elliot added as she disappeared behind them, presumably to check on Isen and Blake, making sure they were caught up.

“I'm sorry for what I did, I was caught up in my anger and revenge. I needed to make sure that Scott felt the pain that he caused me when he sliced my arm off." Benji said as he looked at his prosthetic arm, in the following days from that incident, he had figured how get the nanobots to change color to his natural blue shade.

“And I know understand that, but do know I believe that his time would have been better spent rotting in a cell, slowly and surely being destroyed to the end. I am still mad at you." Martin said his face turning to a pale white as he looked down to the ground.

“You are allowed that, but how about we start on a new leaf, no cannibal psychopaths in our way. Hi I'm Benji, what's your name…" Benji said as he slurred his voice and suddenly his body went fuzzy. He fell to the ground like a limp biscuit, falling on the ground Martin rushed to his side.

“Sorry for giving you a heart attack there, I should have given you something a bit quicker, like an aneurysm, I do love me some aneurysms." Benji blinked a bit and realized he had died and the devil had summoned him back to the pits of hell. He looked around and it looked a bit better, the devil now had a fuzzy pink scarf on his neck.

“Sorry, about the mess we had a bit of a fiesta last nice." He said as he threw the scarf on the ground and tried to look serious, but he appeared to be a bit hungover.

“Save it Lucifer, what do you want." Benji said as he rolled his eyes at the devil, fire sprung from his eyes and he was blinded. “Well done, blinding your own Earthbound ruler." His vision then returned.

“Watch out, that attitude of yours is going to get yourself killed in some unpleasant ways, I hope you don't want to lose more body parts." The devil said, before Benji was about to speak. However, the devil interrupted him. “Now then onto the main point, either way we are dealing with a very dangerous spirit today.

“Who?" Benji asked as suddenly the devil activated a projector and on the screen another shark appeared. He looked different than Benji, a bit older, a bit madder and a bit stranger. “Ok, so we're dealing with the hippie version of myself."

“Well actually kind of; in a splitting time created due to the influence of certain Kagen God and his lackey, one of your previous reincarnations was sent into the Kagen Dimension and you became Bright, second to a different version of Twilight. As in most Kagen influenced universes, Twilight gives peace to the humans and escapes or is expelled and him and a shark, Koji have to fight back. However, in this and three other universes Bright escapes as well and with a vile of dragon changing serum." The devil said reminding Benji that there were other timeline universes and the devil foresaw all of them.

“In all four, Bright and Twilight always clash early and he dies before anything bad happens. In fact in a different universe with Bright, he was killed by the Outsiders before even getting to meet Twilight. Either way in all four, Bright, Koji and Twilight confront in a nuclear power planet." The devil stopped taking a deep breath and then continuing. “In three he is killed by the explosion but in one the Outsider Koji isn't as trained and the blast knocks him out of the universe and into this one."

“Ok, so were dealing with crazy shark that is mean in a different dimension, created by timeline manipulation sounds pretty crazy, but that's how was from the beginning so I can't counter." Benji said as he wondered what he needed to do, but before he could gain that info he was brought back to life.

Calming breathing in air, his heart restarted and his soul was restored. Martin was currently giving him CPR, and Benji being the half creep he was pushed back and gave a little tongue. Martin pulled back and looked at him with a face of anger on his face.

“You creep, I try to save you and you and you!" Martin said speechless, he didn't even have words to describe how angered he was. “You are on thin ice Benji, make another wrong move and I will not regret ripping your arm off. Beware you can't die, that's a moral loophole."

Martin's eyes were filled with fire, he couldn't believe how different the smooth and shave shark was acting, he was being a massive douche and Martin couldn't deal with him now. He moved forward, speeding off with his powers and trying to get away from Benji.

“I thought you wanting to make up with Martin, not push him away. You're better than this." Elliot said as the peace was disturbed, even Isen and Blake's peace was disturbed the two whispering to each other and probably talking about the shark. Benji felt like he was a dick to be simple.

“Don't you at least want to hear what the devil told me?" Benji asked as he walked forward, trying to get them back on his side. They put their hands together and shifted to the parallel Boston. He pulled out his phone as well and shifted, joining the group again.

“We should start in the underground, see if they're using that for transportation." Benji said communicating with the group as they ignored him. Except for Isen, who still did valve Benji as a person and turned around looking at him and wondering how he figured that out.

“Guys, he might be a bit of a meanie but we shouldn't ignore him he still does have a valid opinion. We have seen people being turned into the dragon but with the amount that there are, they should be flying in the sky above us. We can use the sewer and we will have to run into them." Isen said, looking back at Benji and blinking at him.

“Fine then, we will take the sewers, Benji you're our guard, keep us protected." Elliot said as she looked around and tried to find what Benji what would be talking about. Isen looked around and pointed at a basement door near the church, it should have been one of the many entrances.

“Oh how convenient." Blake said as he walked forward, walking towards the door and opening it. He checked inside, making sure a trap wasn't set for them below. Blake was the first to enter, descending into the stairway, a creaking was heard and the occasional drip of water setting the mood.

“Well then into the sewers." Benji said as he formed a gun in his hand and walked forward, passing into the stairs and closing the entrance behind them. He walked forward, looking around and making sure no one followed. The sound of feet marching ahead of them, surrounded them and they felt surrounded.

No one spoke, hoping to remain hidden within the vital darkness and avoid comforting a dragon and instead follow them to the location of Bright's base. They walked forward, bending down and walking close to the ground as they approached a corner.

The sounds of footsteps approached and then dragons. Full blooded, full winged dragons passed by, their bodies massive and they looked magnificent. Every detail looked like it belong, their scales were so perfect and their teeth so sharp. Benji might have fallen in love again.

He had to resist them and instead he stood still, keeping close to the ground and the wall making sure no one could see them. He stayed there and eventually maybe seconds or minutes later the marching stopped. They followed behind the dragons keeping close, at least twenty five meters behind.

And then Benji couldn't remember, the shark probed his mind and tried to find information but all he could remember was passing through gas. He couldn't find any info between following the dragon and entering the underground it was a massive blurry blind spot in his mind.

And then he felt something below him, feeling the ground the clouds shifted away from him and he was in the darkness. He felt around and pushed himself up against the ground. He could feel that he was on his own two feet again. He tried looking around but the landscape was dark and desolate.

Nobody was around, he felt around as his eyes adjusted to the area but it was then that he slammed into a large pole like object. Backing up from the impacted object, sodium vapor lamps above him activated. They casted their familiar orange glow down onto the streets and gave him the vision he needed.

He had no idea where he was or where he was going, it was all relative. No matter how much he walked down one side of the street he would always end up in the same position in the sidewalk, right next to the stupid alley with the same cat that looked like it was moving a repetitive pattern.

“Déjà vu." Benji said as he saw the cat. Since curiosity would kill the cat not him, he walked over to the alley and viewed the cat. It didn't even seem to be reacting to his presence. He placed his hand on the cat's body and he shivered, it looked like it needed to react, that it needed to jump up and run away but it couldn't.

“Strange, the mind is so weak isn't it. Sometimes we have 15 petabytes of information and other times there are graphic card released fifty years ago that could create a more immersive experience." Benji said as he realized what had happened, he was in a dreamscape. His own mind was trapping him, of course something like hallucinogenic gas or a transformation trying to put his mind at ease.

“Well then Bright, you want this to happen." Benji said putting his hand out and realizing that his powers still worked. He formed a gun in his hand and realized what he had to do. Pointing the gun at his head, he knew that if he died the dream state would definitively collapse.

So he pointed the gun at his head, but yet he didn't pull the trigger. Maybe because he knew who ever put him in this state, was watching or his own vanity was holding him back. He held his thoughts for a few seconds and collected his mind.

And then the dream ended, he was strapped to a table and Bright standing over his body. He looked at the shark and he looked back and smiled. He had a breathing mask on, through his seemed to be empty. He also had the same pistol he formed in his dream in his hand, which suggested some things that he didn't want to think about.

Around him however, was the rest of the group, the other four of them strapped to their own tables. Each of them was being fed a yellow gas, either chlorine or the hallucinogenic gas, and the more he thought about it was probably the latter.

Elliot opened her eyes and she found herself in a familiar place. She heard all sorts of thoughts in her head, but the most powerful were the screaming. However, what was the most sobering thought, was when she realized she wasn't sitting down, she was standing up but she only came up to the edge of her bed.

She turned around and there was a familiar man behind her, he looked frightened and afraid, like he was holding onto a horrible memory. She needed to know what was happening, or who was happening. She hoisted herself onto the window frame and saw the outside.

Her face was illuminated by bright flames burning before her and on the streets. She was horrified by the view below her house. The streets were on fire, like hell had opened up. People were running around, catching on fire and falling over. Buildings were collapsing and in the back ground she could feel the movement of some sort of massive beast.

She pushed herself back on the floor and looking at herself, she realized that she was a child. Her hands tiny, her hair long and still in pink flower pajamas; she ran for the door, before the man in the corner, presumably her father, grabbed her. She tried to struggle out and go help the people.

“No you can't go, you're only a child. The worlds collapsing, we need to stay together and be safe. It's okay, we will be fine here." Elliot heard her father say. She realized what was happening and she couldn't help people. The world was collapsing around her and she had no influence on how fast it was happening.

She needed to help, she tried to help but it was no use for her. No matter how much she tried to struggle and get out of the man's grip the tighter he squeezed. She wanted to go out and help people, she needed to go out and help the people. Yet she couldn't and something felt wrong because of that.

Isen woke up and the white wolf found himself in a cathedral, perhaps one he would have gone to before he was transported to the new world and his mind was expanded. He looked around and he was in the center of the aisle, alone and no one near him and there was a mass happening.

“Look down on him with shame, for he is the one who was led astray from the lamb and instead fell to the pits of hell!" Isen's eyes opened up as he realized that he was being made an example of. Standing up he looked around and everyone was staring at him, some of the mothers were crying and the fathers giving disapproved looks but nearly everyone noticed his presence.

Isen put his hand up and tried to speak in his defense, but when he spoke no words came out, only air. He was voiceless, so instead he would try to leave, but then it was like his feet were made completely out of goo. He tried to move but he was paralyzed in place.

“For it was he who abandoned his god that created and burned in the pits of hell, and you are the fallen angel and the one who will lead our pack astray. You are the devil sir and your kind will get the hell they deserve." As the priest stated that, the laymen stood up and looked at him.

They splashed holy water at him and it burned his skin and fur, turning it matted and burnt black. He tried to escape as they surrounded him but he had nowhere to go and then he was surrounded. He would have probably dropped a one-liner at this point, but his mouth felt like sealed rubber.

They grabbed his body and suddenly a piece of splintery wood was placed on his back. A piece of robe was tied to his body, and he was held up by the group as the walls of the church changed to the outside. The group of laymen walked forward and towards a large pile of wood.

“It he the unholy heathen who will get what they deserve, it is then that the world shall be freed of sin and at that point shall we finally be free from the demons that inhabit this Earth!" The priest said as he read from his holy book, Isen was placed on the pile of wood and stayed upright.

Fire was then thrown onto the sticks, engulfing it in fire and as the fire spread to his body he felt like it was he who betrayed the church and his own good. And it was he who deserved this fate. He was engulfed in fire and tried to live with his pain as he was burnt.

Blake opened his eyes and he was on some sort of dark place. In fact it felt like there was two hundred pounds of rubble on his body. He shifted around and the rubble shifted a bit. Pulling himself up he grabbed the rubble and wondered if the underground collapsed or something. He hoped everyone made it out before him as well.

He pulled himself upwards and through the rubble, he felt different. He felt less energetic, but he had no idea of what was happening. He pushed the rubble out of his way and saw the light of sun above him. He grabbed the rubble and pulled himself upwards to the top of the pile.

However, when he saw the world around him, he wished he had stayed in the rubble. The world was covered in rubble, a layer of clouds above him. The ocean the burnt away and the entire landscape around him was yellow rubble for miles and miles on.

Blake looked around and found a Geiger counter on the ground. He walked over to it and put his hand out to grab it. However, he hesitated as he looked at the device. Keeping his hand back, he didn't want to know, but he needed to know. He grabbed the device and activated it, pulling out the wand.

Taking the wand he rubbed it against his skin, hoping for a result, but as he did so. There was nothing, nothing came off the counter. He regretted this and wished he didn't, he fell to the ground, not caring about the rubble.

Tears rained out of his eyes, based on the landscape probably the only water left on the planet. He had finally done it, released all the radiation in his body at once, created a nuclear winter, he had so feared that he would make. All the decaying materials in his body being released at once, it had finally ended and he had created it.

No more Isen or Outsiders, the world was nothing to him anymore and he had nothing to live for any more. He cried and wished he hadn't lived, but that was his punishment.

Benji looked at the rest of the outsiders and Martin as they shook and shivered in what must have been perpetual nightmares. However, he feel asleep again as a gas entered his mask. And when he woke up, he was alone he was in a stadium a place of fighting and Bright was on the other side.

Standing up Benji looked exciting knowing that a battle of ideals was about to take place. He looked at his alternative path, knowing that he could fully turn out evil as well. He was on a balancing board, Elliot and Martin kept him on the good side while villains like Greg and Scott tempted him with evil and poison. He had no idea what the devil pushed him to do but apples to apples.

“So then I hear you have my soul, that makes us the same person, but raised in a different way. So that asks would you kill a child Hitler, or would you raise him up right make him a child scientist?" Benji asked as he walked towards himself, looking at Bright someone who shouldn't have been in this universe. Yet when Benji saw him he felt at home, he felt good, he felt like he had purpose.

“That assumes you have a time machine, so tell me where are you hiding it?" Bright asked joking along, Benji couldn't help but laugh. So then, it happened both of them pulled out a gun and pointed them at each other.

“Well then I figure you must be a fan of the good old stand-off, but no reason to stop now. I want to stop you; I want to prevent people from turning into dragons. Why do you figure that, what made us inherently different? Our souls are the same but our bodies are different?" Benji asked as he started to move around Bright, as did the shark; both of them spinning in a circle as they pointed a gun at each other's faces.

“I was raised in chaos; the Kagen Pantheon worked on chaos. Everyday me and brother worked forwards different goals, trying to direct the shark clan and destroy the humans. Of course, he was always the baby of the group and wanted to save the humans like they were a cause." Bright said as he twisted around, laughing it up. He was definitely crazy and mentally deranged but Benji liked it.

“So then chaos leads to evilness, how interesting. You want to see the world set on fire, engulfed in radiation, burned at the stake or set completely alone. And yet I somehow see the best of the world, I need to save it. Perhaps, us the superheroes are so obsessed with the status quo that we need to put ourselves at risk in order to preserve it, yet all you do is change it." Benji argued.

“Well, I'd hate to get in the way of your conversation, but the Calvary has arrived!" Suddenly Elliot appeared pointing a gun at both Benji and Bright's head. Bright quickly pulled out a gun and pointed it at Elliot as well, while Benji formed another gun.

“Oh come on, for god's sake we're on the same side. We're both here for him." Benji said as he looked at Elliot and the barrel she had attached to his head as well.

“For god's sake, I believe that's my job." Suddenly from the corner, Father Absalom appeared, joining the fight pointing a gun at Benji and Bright. Benji turned himself pointing his guns at Bright and Absalom.

“Anybody else want to join, you should really get this area protected." Benji said noting that the lights and construction must have been from the future. He looked around and all four of them had different ideas, different plans and anything could set these people off.

“Well then boys, I believe this is what they call a standoff in Mexico" Benji said joking as he tried to alleviate tension and perhaps get a certain priest away from them to be dealt with later.

“Where in hell is Mexico?" Absalom as they stood there and then they stood their silently waiting, preparing for someone to pull a trigger and end someone's life.
