Chapter VII: Turning Bright, Part Two
Well then I'm sure after one week and a half; so I won't hold you any further here is your resolution.
Chapter Seven: Turning Bright, Part Two
“So let's start then, tell me your name then." Elliot said as she sat down in front of a table three different times starting the questions and beginning to gain the information she needed. In front of her was the three people she needed to know for her information to be complete on the situation.
“Benji."
“Martin."
“Bright."
All three of them said after about the same time of reaction from all three of them. She was in the outsider's base and she was sitting opposite from the question answers. She made the same expression as she looked down at the analog recorder.
“I need last names as well." Elliot said hoping that would have been implied amongst the chaos. She thought about stopping the recording and just taking mental notes, the information that was being taken could have been released or given to the public. She wondered if they could take such sensitive information.
They looked at her and all three of them did the same and rolled their eyes. Of course that would be picked up by the machine in between them. A realized version of a Voight-Kampff machine scanning the contractions in the blood vessels of the eyes and the face to gather information on the truth.
“Smith."
“Byrn."
“Kagens have no last names dear."
She thought about it, Smith and Byrn; one of the more common last names and one of the least common last names. Benji and Martin were so different, and yet she did think they might just be perfect for each other. Yet Benji was brutal, she shivered at the things she saw him do and Martin the pacifist, sitting down and talking down.
Benji cut problems off at the brain stem, taking sides and limiting one end. She was very glad that Benji was on her side, forbid he decided that he could take down the outsiders. She saw what he could do if he tried, something he rarely did do, and he could easily take them down with ease. All he needed to do was form an explosive or something and their base was destroyed.
Martin believed in the good of all people and wanted to gather people, talk to them and make sure everyone was benefited in their own unique way. She was kind of almost impressed with the lizard's determination to that lifestyle. He reminded him of her when she began before learning the harsh truth of the world. Perhaps that high pressurized air he breathed did do the body good.
“Ok, now then tell me what happened?" Elliot asked wanting to knowing their versions of the events, that led up to this questioning. She made sure to pronounce and talk to each of them to see how each of them would react to it. She looked at their faces to see how they reacted.
“With all three of us in a standoff of the Mexican Verity, after a few minutes of dicking off BOO Agents summoned by Martin come in and allow me to restrain Bright and that crazy priest." Benji said and she could tell he purposely referred to Absalom as he did. She made sure he had a perception filter on him so that he didn't gain any info of the future. She would need to interview him in the other world.
“BOO agents entered and surrounded you, after one of you accidentally killed Benji, they surrounded the rest and captured them. After you made a deal with them, we were transferred to you and I am supposed to dictate what is going on, so that deal broke, but go on I'm sure we will find a middle ground." Martin said still trying to give Elliot the truth, also adding what Benji did leave out. She would need to peer into their mind to see the truth.
“I only surrendered to gain a more tactical advantage." Bright said surprising her the most. As he talked to her she fiddled with the machine in front of her, it flashed a red light as if it couldn't scan the mind. She couldn't either, when she did it was like traveling into a maze. This troubled her. “Don't try with me or Benji, our souls are protected by basic mental training."
She then knew she would have to use Martin's perspective in order to piece together what did happen. All she did know is that like with her perspective it too would have been distorted by time and she needed to piece together what really happened.
Benji died she knew that and for whatever reason they all attacked him possibly just to fire a shot. She hoped it wouldn't be her and she needed to know whether or not that she shot Benji. She would have felt bad if she accidentally killed Benji again.
As she entered Martin's she flew around his synapses mind avoiding a few moments of intimacy between the lizard and shark in his mind. And she something different, she saw him viewing the standoff. He wasn't busting into the building but waiting for something.
And then she saw Benji blink, it was what set Absalom and Bright off. Benji fell to the ground, and Martin nodded to the soldiers. They ran in jumping in through a side window and landing on the ground. As he looked down, he nodded at Elliot and she remembered that nod as well.
The soldiers landed on the ground and pointed their guns to the group. The BOO agents must have had some sort of ankle brace or they could have really smashed their bones. The three of them that were still alive put their hands up, and one agent pointed at Benji.
Piecing the memories together she knew what had to happen and that Bright and Absalom would have to charge with the murder of Benji and it would put the two away. She smiled as she prepared for her interview with the DA office.
…
“Why did we get put in a cell as well, this seems more like a risk to us than we seem like a risk to you." Benji said as he held on to the cold red bars, his face covered in the refracting water light from the sunroof over his body. Outside of the cell were Tweddle Dee and Tweddle Dum, neither of them paying attention to them and instead playing with a hackey sack. Benji had no idea how unimportant that made him feel.
“I still don't think they can hear us after the thousandth or so time, just break open the cell by forming a chain saw." Martin suggested as he leaned on the chains, knowing full well what Benji could do when he was motivated say by a massive dragon beast attacking them. However, Benji was internally challenging himself; seeing how long he could push himself.
“I'm pretty sure we can figure this, just be grateful that they had the modern sense to separate me, Absalom and Bright." Benji said as he formed a selfie-stick with a mirror on the end and poked it out of the for once non-forcefield enhanced cell. Looking down he could see the two talking to each other at the end of the hall.
…
“So, how long have you been chasing after this kid?" Bright asked as he passed the time with the priest in the other cell. Both looked at each other and groaned as they tried to think of better excuse than for the hell of it. The longer they both thought of their answers the more sick it sounded in their heads.
“Yeah not going to answer that, have you thought about joining the catholic church your sins can be forgiven." Absalom said as he tried to convince Bright to join his fraction as well. Both of them looked away and groaned again knowing that was a lie.
“I'm sorry I don't think my husband in the other universe would agree with that sediment." Bright argued as he leaned on the cell, banging against the metal poles. Absalom reacted in an oddly normal fashion even for one of his time period.
“Are you saying you are a practicing homosexual?" Absalom asked as he held on to his bottle of holy water. Making sure that Bright wouldn't do something to him and try to darken his soul. However he did think that perhaps though the shark's soul could be saved in one way or another.
“I don't need practice; I'll assure you I am quite good at being one." Bright said as he decided that this conversation was no longer benefiting him and he decided to put his plan into place. Walking to the back of the cell he looked at the toilet and then above him. He could seem the sea water in the bowl and he figured out what that meant.
“Now then good luck, I hope you survive you might be a good opponent one day." Bright said as he pulled out a vile from inside of his mouth, the same green liquid used to transform the first dragon. Pouring it into the toilet he quickly flushed it and sent it into the water of the sea.
…
“Blake, Isen; you should probably go check on Bright. He appears to be doing something evil." Benji said as he shook on the bars, trying to get their attention but as it appears on the assured destruction of the base could get them to pay attention. He looked up as a layer of green spread over the water above him like a layer of butter.
As it went as the liquid entered the sea water, it almost instantly lost its effectiveness. However, it was still concentrated enough that around the tube the flush exited from, it could start to attack a series of microbes that had gathered on the edge waiting for their daily feed.
Benji looked around waiting for something to happen, either the roof opening, or the base exploding or anything to happen. It was then that above him he heard a creaking sound on the base above him. The roof was caving in, he thought about what could be heavy enough to break open the roof.
“Remember what you said previous about chainsaws. Well watch out!" Benji yelled as he put his hands forward and formed a massive beast of a chainsaw. It was black had a flame pattern on its body. It looked like a hotrod. Slicing it forward, it made quick work of the metal and cut a hole into the cell.
“Sorry Blake, going to have to escape." Benji said as he ran over to Bright's cell and ignoring the shark that was crying for his attention, looked out the window. A massive shadow was laid out against the seafloor, blocking the sun behind it. Looking up he saw a massive body against the roof of the base and wondered what was happening.
“Beware of the dragon; trust me Benji this will all go over quickly if you allow yourself to die continuously. Now then, it is time for me to go." Bright said as the roof above collapsed and water quickly flowed in. Before certain drowning killed them all however, a hand reached in a temporally clogged the plug.
“Now then I must be off." Bright said as he allowed the hand to pick him up and he was pulled through the now open hole. Benji stood back as the water flowed in to the base and he was prepared to drown and die again. Running forward he saw an opportunity and clicked the button pad.
A purple forcefield formed between him and the base as water entered the cell. Benji stood back as the dragon swam away from the top and the sunlight shined into the cell. It swam past the window and Benji backed up from the circular window as an eye blinked at him.
“That is not good; a water based dragon is bad. We are in its home and it looks very, very bad." Martin said as he backed up towards Isen and Blake, looking at the water dragon as it backed up. Martin then turned back and straight up ran, Blake and Isen noticing what he was running from.
“Ok, then lets protect this base." Benji said as he formed a mask in his hand and placed it on his face. His body transforming and being covered with metal, as the massive beast dragon approached. He took a breath of oxygen, despite knowing he could breathe underwater as well.
Forming a sword in his hand he prepared to face the beast before him as a forcefield to protect the base from the water intake that would flood the room in a moment. The dragon knocked forward and the wall broke. Water, metal shards and glass flew into the room, all knocking off of Benji.
Benji swam forward and prepared to slice the dragon, he exited out of the hole and slashed at the dragon's skin. It backed up from him and Benji looked as the dragon bleed into the water. He felt his body change a water compressor forming in his back.
“Beast do prepare to be slayed!" Benji yelled his backpack compressed the water and blasted it out. Benji flew forwards and pulled up his sword placing it with in prime slashing condition. He prepared for the impact and the dragon clawed at him.
Benji shifted to the left narrowly avoiding the claw over him and he blasted up, turning towards the claw that attacked him. He pushed forward and sheathed his sword into the beast's skin. Blood flowed out into the water, clouding it and engulfing Benji in the void.
The shark swam up disturbing the blood pool further. Then a hand passed through the blood pool once below him, and then once above him. He stood still as he tried to escape to the to surface. However as the blood flowed above him it clouded away and he was trapped having no idea how further he had to swim. He shifted around as he tried to make his way upwards, it was so cloudy and dark and he couldn't tell which way to go.
Then shifting the water, a claw appeared it reached out through the cloudy blood and surrounded Benji. The shark tried to swim up but the claw clamped down on him and he was captured by the hydrodragon. With his body trapped he wiggled, trying to shift out of the dragon's grip but it was too strong.
Benji screamed out, his body being engulfed in pain as his entire body was crushed. He had died and the dragon let his body go. Benji floated down wards, his body too dense to float. With the water breathing threat gone, the dragon then turned his attention on the base.
…
Martin ran through with Blake and Isen leading them to the central room as the dragon distracted by Benji was unable to attack their base. He needed to save them, but as he led them their he had sudden realization. He stopped and looked back behind him, besides Benji and Bright there were four people in that room.
Running back he came up to the purple forcefield wall and looked at it, seeing through it he saw a set of hands on the cell trying to get his attention. He knew it was the priest, the crazy priest who tried to kidnap Benji before, however he decided to give the Father a second chance.
Running to the forcefield generator and its controller, he clicked on the button pad and created a hole in the shield. With the blockage gone and an air bubble forming in the space between the water and the ceiling, Martin knew that he had to save the priest. Perhaps his actions might convince the priest not to condemn them and instead go back to his normal day to day actions.
Martin grabbed the hole and pulled himself through the hole, his body blocking the water and it didn't like that. The water pushed back trying to take the path of least resistance and him along with it. Yet Martin hung on and flopped out onto the floor of the cell area.
Not caring about his breathing equipment he walked forward, grabbing the broken bars of his once cell as he breathed in from his mask. Continuing on towards Absalom, he saw the priest poke his head into a forming air bubble Martin nodded at him and then he saw the man collapse.
“Oh God this is what I get for not going to church in twelve years. Pulling himself forward, Martin arrived at Absalom's cell and the lizard looked forward the pad, still glowing with light as he looked at it. Of course it would still have the functionality to work.
Clicking on the panel, the cells extended from their position and it opened up. The priest fell on his body and he fell into the water. Floating he took a breath as he let the current take his body towards the hole. Pulling Absalom onto his body he squeezed into the hole, and was forced out as the pressure built up.
Landing on the floor with the force of two people on his back, Martin had to stay still for a few sections as the water poured on him. Deciding not be water boarded further, he pushed the priest off his body and stood off.
“One done, one to go." Martin said as he closed the hole in the forcefield, taking a few breaths as he tried to readjust to the temperature. He shivered a bit and shook off the water on his body. Looking around he poked the priest and tried to make sure he alive.
Feeling a pulse in the priest's neck, he picked him up and activated his power. He ran back towards the central room, a blue streaking following behind his body as he traveled into the central room. Barely slowing down, he handed Absalom off to Blake and Isen.
Behind him he saw the light of the teleportation and knew they were at least safe. That would be the first problem and then the next problem would be to find Elliot. He needed to find her as well, following the path he remembered the way he took from the interrogation room.
He searched around the area looking for where he came from but there was nothing to suggest which way he was going. He supposed that would be the point of the idea, keep him in the area and confused. Presumably either traveling around in circles, he tried to find an area with the lights on.
He needed to know where the lights were as they would tell him where the base thought that Elliot was or at least her phone that interfaced with the system. He searched around, his body nearly slipping multiple times on the floor that now had a layer of water on it. He continued on though.
Looking around and either traveling for twelve miles or going in the same section for an hour, he finally found a section with a lit area. He continued on, slowing down and looking in to every window, ignoring the few with their lights off. He looked into each of the room trying to find Elliot.
Finally he found her, talking presumably gossiping on the phone; oblivious to the commotion that was happening around her. He knocked on the window, the first time she didn't even notice. And after knocking a second time did she turn towards the window and notice his body. He looked at him and ignored him, turning back towards the phone and continuing to talk.
“Oh god, she is going to kill me." Martin said as he knocked again, putting his hand up and pointing as his watch trying to get the point the time was limited across to her. And yet she looked away, ignoring Martin as he tried to get her attention. He knew he and BOO didn't have the resources or the man power the Outsiders did, yet a little respect would have been nice to give.
Then the base shook, like a large earthquake traveling the Earth. Elliot wouldn't have known the cause, but Martin knew exactly what that was. Deciding to take action, he stuck the glass window with his hand. Shattering it into pieces and crumbling the nicely emblazed words. Unlocking the door, he admittedly illegally let himself into the room and decided to save Elliot himself.
“Sorry Ma'am but it seems that you need some help to get you out of this one." Martin said as he ran in and grabbed Elliot out of her chair, pulling her up and holding her bridal style as he extracted her from her office and tried to make a break for the teleport room.
“What the hell are you doing, I know I put you and Benji in jail but this is no way to react, you were even going to be charged if that make you feel better." Elliot said as she tried to push herself out of his arms and escape his grip and then once again the base shook as presumably the hydrodragon tried to dislodge it.
As the shaking intensified the floor suddenly became loose from beneath him and his footing was lost. Everything when wrong and he crashed into the wall with Elliot. Both of them were fine though their bodies built for that type of work. Refracted light stopped shined on his body as a massive shadow moved over the skylight.
“Oh god, Martin I'm sorry I doubted you." Elliot said as she looked up viewing the massive hydrodragon attacking their base. By the way he figured they were located, he had to be on top of the base. And as suddenly the floor moved beneath him, he slid over to the wall like an ice puck.
He knew what that meant. Standing up and looking at the window above him, he saw the base being tilted or being led into a massive canyon. If his knowledge of third grade marine biology hadn't failed him, he would have known that as a continental shelf.
“Elliot, I believe we might be getting pushed fathering into the ocean. I think that we are going to really sleep with the fishes if we don't take action and soon." Martin said as he helped the Outsider's leader up and help onto her as the base shook even more. They were knocked from side to side as the hydrodragon, presumably done with Benji had its fun.
However, God decided to their work for them. The shaking on the base increased and a series of screws popped out above them. Martin grabbed onto Elliot, as the base was ripped open beneath them. The rushing water grabbed them and kept them in their grip as they were knocked away. Martin tried to stay away, tried to lead their path but he closed his eyes passing out.
…
Martin gasping taking a breath from his air mask, and felt he was being grabbed. Next to him a familiar blue shark had grabbed onto his body. His body floated in the water and he was on some sort of pier. Looking around he appeared to be lucky, this seemed to be the pier that saved Benji when he first escaped.
Feeling Benji's pulse, he suddenly realized the shark had died taking the impact from the pole. Ignoring that, he saw that Elliot was being held in Benji's other hand. Reaching over he tapped her on the head and woke her up. She gasped for a few seconds as she readjusted.
Above them a rope was descended and Martin grabbed on to their saver. Instead off pulling up Benji, he grabbed Elliot's hand and stuck her with the dead weight as they were pulled up to the top of the pier. Looking around a forcefield had descended over the city, emitting from the tallest building, the John Handcock Building.
At the top Absalom, Blake and Isen were all pulling them to the top. Martin grabbed onto the wooden pier and climbed over. Landing on the safe ground, he shook himself off and had a look around. Nobody was around them; the pier was empty as was the streets.
“Here you go, have some towels." Isen said as he handed Elliot and Martin red towels, while Benji was pulled over the side. Drying himself off Martin made sure he wasn't going to go hypothermic, and quickly did a lap around the pier to warm himself up.
Absalom however, was more interested in the resurrection of Benji. Blake was standing next to him as they waited for the miracle to happen. Absalom placed a finger on Benji's wrist and shook a bit as he felt the heartbeat of the shark start up again. Benji gasped and spit out water from his mouth.
“Once again the beast saves the dammed soul from his fate, Lazarus would be jealous of you, you should know." Absalom said as he spoke to Benji viewing the shark and seeing that he was alive. Martin sighed a bit at least knowing that he didn't seem as antagonistic as before. He seemed to at least want to keep his options to himself.
“Oh well at least you aren't going to kill me again." Benji said remembering the time that Absalom punished him in order to see if there was a limit on the times he could die. As it turned out he could only die one hundred times in a day, either that or the devil became so board of him that he let Benji die until Absalom threw him out.
“So is this world the future, this must be the area of the dammed rich as there is no way the poor could have such wealth and worldly possessions." Absalom said as he viewed the city skylines amazed at what he was seeing before him.
“Sorry, these days Catholicism isn't as big as it once was. There are at least twenty other religions fighting to be in the top third position. Have you heard of the flying spaghetti monster?" Isen said as he helped the priest figure out what to do with all the knowledge of the time.
“Don't worry, by the time you die Catholicism will still be a big thing, there isn't much you could do anyway. You can't affect this timeline." Blake said as he helped Absalom up, both of them looking at the magnificent skyline of the city and all it represented.
“Well then send me back, I'm no use to you here anymore. I don't remember how I got here." Absalom said as Elliot quickly flashed him away from the area.
“Well then, as it seemed all the dragons have died in the previous world. Their DNA wasn't stable, perhaps the universal shift affected the potion. Bright is finished in his reign. The sea dragon has sunk and we have nothing further to fight for." Isen said as he figured it would be the last they saw of Bright as they would see nothing more of him.
