Chapter Four: A Flash and Frost With Death, Part Two
Isaac looked down at his phone as he walked back into the Outsider base, he held his finger up to Iren and put the phone up to his face. It was the hospital and as his memory condensed down to normality, he remembered it was the one that Finn’s parents were staying at, and putting the phone to his face, he knew exactly what he was going to be told.
“Hello this is urgent, we cannot reach the emergency contact for Finn Harris and you are the only other number left. His parents have slipped into critical condition, they are dying and we cannot save them, you need to get him here soon, to say good-bye, they have anywhere from four to twenty-four hours.” A nurse was on the other side of the line dropping the information quickly, and Isaac felt it hit him like a bus, it seemed he wasn’t a lair after all.
“Yes I understand, I’ll try to find him, you just keep them alive as much as possible, do that for me.” Isaac breathed and then in his mind the soundtrack of his live began as the synth music started and the dumb beats in the background signified the race of his life. He put the phone down and looked at Iren.
“Ok, now then something we can both agree on, as much as a pig I think you are, we can both agree on making Finn happy and right now his parents are dying, if you can find where he went and why they cannot contact him then you can do whatever you want because I just want him to get a proper goodbye, everyone deserves that, say nothing and contact me with the earbuds in a few.” Isaac rambled off as Iren fell forward in her chair and looked the screen, she started to type and both of them knew this was serious.
Isaac walked out of the door and grabbed the motorcycle, he didn’t have the keys but he had something different. Reaching into his pocket, he put a device on top of the key ignition and it locked on, then with a turn of his fingers, the motorcycle started. The engine rumbled to life and even Isaac knew what to do.
Reaching into his purple jacket, he grabbed a tiny metallic piece and placed it into his ear. It activated as it contacted a satellite above and then it contacted Iren and any other Outsider around. He placed it into his ear and kicked the kickstand, he needed to do this for Finn, he needed to make it up to the shark.
“Finn might be a hundred or two hundred miles away but I will do this for him and I will give his parents the ending they deserve; it is the least I can do.” Isaac leaned on the motorcycle and drove forward, passing through the stop lights and into the ear piece, Iren worked, Finn could have been any place, but he was still in one place. Yet all the while an Outsider was in a different place from where his eyes were last open.
…
It felt frosty, Erick felt his eyes open and close and something was covering his body. As he tried to move his hands, they were stuck to something, he felt a shiver running through his body and then he looked around, his eyes shot open and he was inside some room, there was desks in front of him and his body felt cold.
Around his body frozen water held his body to the walk, looking into the ice he looked back and saw a black background and white chalk on the board. Standing still and looking forward, he wondered where he was and then it was obvious. He was in the school, Carson City High School, Erick felt his air knocked out of him and like that he knew what was happening.
“Well then look at that, shame some of your classmates came here as well.” In front of the komodo, he saw the icy body of the Nanoleader. Standing still, he looked around and saw more bodies of ice hung against the wall, some assortments of species being held by the ice on the ceiling, looking up, Erick slowly breathed.
“Careful there, you might find your lungs unable to expand with all that ice around your chest, maybe it can just push it out.” Frostbite raised his fist and then suddenly the ice compressed. “Or maybe that ice would just rise up to your mouth and then you will find your lungs just a bit closed off.”
“Let me out of this, let me out of this and let these people go, do not bring then into this plan.” Erick yelled as he struggled through his ice but found it wouldn’t bulge. Frostbite walked forward and passed around the desks that he pushed away and looked up to the ceiling. Erick turned his head and barely saw the figure trapped in the frost. The white lab coat, it was Pavlock.
“Stop it, stop it all, and let us go, I can see into your mind and I can see everything you can do.” Erick looked forward and threatened the man, Frostbite turned around and raised his fist, a blast of ice shot forward and a wind storm of blizzards appeared. Erick closed his eyes and looked through the room. And then as the ice fell to the ground, Frostbite had left the room.
“Ah good, tell me, has Flashpoint surrounded the other Outsiders.” A voice entered the room, it was Frostbite, just lowly and just enough that Eric could hear it. “Well then, good allow then to be dealt with.”
Erick stood still, Finn and the two aliens, they must have been in danger. He needed to escape and put an end to this nanobot incursion, this was his home territory, this was his school and he knew it like the back of his head. Looking around he wondered, how easily would it be to break through the ice. He pushed forward and wondered more.
“Well I might not have your powers Finn, and I think I really might be stuck here for a while then.” Erick defeated leaned against the ice and felt his body shivering, he was losing energy quickly. “Ok, well then this ice won’t melt, so then the question of the matter is how long do I have until I pass out and cannot absorb heat?”
Erick started to shiver and breathed steam out of his mouth, not only was his body losing heat but it seemed the whole room, was.
“Ok, maybe the whole school is losing heat as well, I won’t survive long as well and it doesn’t seem like they might as well.” Erick looked over, Pavlock was freezing on the ceiling, and so was the red dragon jock on above the sink, as well as the goth lion and the nerd seal. They all had fog coming from their mouth and it seemed that the cold was wearing them down.
All Erick could feel was dread, all around him, it surrounded him and he felt it, it crawled into his skin and it burned his memory, he didn’t want to feel it, yet here he was feeling it. He tried to shake it off, but the dread was too great. He was frozen and here he was useless, and it would take a miracle for him to escape.
Backing out of the eleventh grade chemistry room, Frostbite smiled at what he did. He put his arms out and added a little more ice to occasion not that it would matter in the long run of things, it was all tiny drops in the lake compared to his greatest work.
“This school has surely been turned back to the ice age, the lockers are just the beginning, soon this city will return to the ages of mammoths and lions.” Frostbite said as even his breathing became a bit foggier. He looked around, the room seemed to be at least freezing, even his breath couldn’t match that. He looked around and looked at his masterpiece.
The lockers covered in ice, the water slowly seeping into the metal boxes through the tiny breathing holes and ruining books as well. The entire floor was covered in a thick sheet of ice and doors had to opened with his command. The entire system of security cameras had their wiring frozen and their circuits overloaded, down the hall, the English classroom would be running out of books.
And the permeant records were ruined as well, the server rooms were covered with ice and any data that was recovered might as well be useless. At least the servers would remain cool like they should have been. The water fountain was a frozen steam of water above it and the pipes around the school were broken.
Frostbite smiled as he walked forward, this was his domain and this was his world, no one could change that and no one could interfere with his vision of this planet now, not the Outsiders, not the Kagens and not the Riftwalkers, they would all soon be destroyed by their greatest plan.
“And all while my plan works, Flashpoint works with the other beings, and soon there will be no more.”
…
“So then what do you want to do, do you want to attack the nearly immortal being with a fire complex in his heart or would you like to surrender and die like the stupid apes you are?” Flashpoint smiled and then his eyes opened, he looked around and his mouth opened, he had the brightest smile on his face and it was the look of a win, Finn hated that smirk look.
“Oh well you do forget what I did to your friends last time, all the while you were off doing something with god only knows and I was killing three of the highest nanoleaders.” Finn smiled back and tried to intimidate the fire man floating before then in the flaming forest of the cabin. Flashpoint floated a bit forward and giggled a little, he looked around at the forest and it was set ablaze in blue flame as while his entire body turned blue as well.
“Sorry if you haven’t figured out yet, those three were the cream of the crop, think of it like that while you were wiping then out, you saved us something we would have had to do sooner or later.” He floated forward and Finn faltered, he moved back and suddenly his smile wasn’t as confident. “We are the Generation Two leaders now, we are above them before and when the nanobots for generation come on line you will view us as gods among men.”
“Absolute power corrupts, leave these people alone and allow their true gods to help them, if we wanted to the Kagens and the Riftwalkers would destroy you in an instant.” Bright said as he walked forward and raised his fist to the generation two Nanoleader. Flashpoint laughed as the cabin burned down, the roof smashing to the ground.
“Well then we will have to deal with this.” Basil threatened as he put his wings out and started to flap, even from the distance the fire bowed to him. He put his hands out and then an energy sphere formed. As he did then suddenly the fire advanced, Basil reacted and expanded it around Finn and Bright.
“Well then good thing I reversed the polarity of that or else we might get a little crispy.” Basil quipped as suddenly the entire forest was set ablaze around them.
“Well then Outsiders you want to fight me, find me deeper into the forest and we’ll see how long you can power that shield.” Flashpoint disappeared into the fire and presumably teleported, Finn raised his finger trying to send some sort of quip but was blocked.
…
“Okay then Iren where the hell was Finn’s phone last pinged? Because I have the theory and feeling he might have gone off into a receptionless hell land that is California.” Isaac asked as he drove down the interstate, he shifted between cars, something going into the shoulder. As he passed a car, a collision barely happening between them, he heard the earbud activate again.
“He is somewhere in South California, his phone last hit a cellphone tower in San Bernardino Forest, and he was traveling south towards Las Angeles, so he did say cabin, so we do have a good idea.” Iren leaned against the chair and looked at the map, he could be anywhere in the forest, she shifted the map into a form with all the dirt roads.
“Well then here’s something for you.” Ross suddenly came into the stream. “Well then the Weather Channel says that San Bernardino is experiencing a full forest fire that suddenly popped up, I don’t know what you’re thinking but me and Billy are thinking that a certain Nanoleader could be a part of that and with an Outsider in that area well then the pieces do just fall into place don’t they.”
“Ah yeah, good point, that’s only a wrench in my plans, I need to find him and get him to his parents. Though quick question how do you two know that?” Isaac asked as he saw the turn to the Nevada Desert Freeway, named when all other interstate numbers were taken up.
“Well Isaac there is nothing like making love to the sounds of the Local on the Eights, you know but just take that as a warning, watch out and be careful for Finn and if you see anything contact us. Ross out.” And then like that the voice of the dragon died into static, Isaac did swear he heard Billy in the background as it phased out but he continued turning onto the interchange and going up it as the cycle turned towards the south and in the air, he saw the land ahead.
While he couldn’t see the forest, he could see the smoke rising above the sky and he knew that was it. Passing by the desert as fast as he could go, he was going to speed through Nevada and he was going to find Finn as fast as he could and he was going to give Finn the good bye he deserved.
By the edge of the road, lonely flora of the desert wallowed in the wind as he pasted by and looking through the polarized shield of the helmet he knew that he had to speed up, this was a race against time.
“Iren if this doesn’t work, I am sorry for Finn. I just get heated sometimes and it seemed like you were trying to take Finn from me, I shouldn’t be as jealous.” Isaac spoke into the earbud as he drove around vehicles, passing large trucks and making his way south. “But then again maybe you might have something to apologize about as well.”
“You’re right, I shouldn’t have sprung this on everyone, it’s not like I was dropping hints.” Iren spoke into the microphone back into the base and then Isaac did remember.
…
Iren puked on the ground as she walked into the base, and then she puked again, time passing and then she puked.
…
“Oh I think I’m out for this one, I don’t think I can so much action.”
…
“God I just feel like a bakery today.”
…
“Ok, well in retrospect that last one was a bit obvious but you don’t exactly expect thigs like that to happen so quickly, still an apology would make my shark heart a little less sore.” Isaac sweet talked into the microphone and Iren couldn’t help to laugh on the other side.
“Fine then, a little serendipity for your shark heart, I apologize for being a whore and a man stealer, but I hope you don’t feel sore about it because then when I have this baby afterwards maybe we can have a little fight.” Iren laughed a bit from the other side.
“Well I am glad there is an understanding, now then I hope that we can do this because Finn will be sorer than all of us if we spring this on him.” Isaac looked up at the road and nearly realized that he was hitting a truck. He quickly shifted into the next lane and looked down to the clock on the motorcycle, twenty minutes had already passed.
“Isaac you know where to go, there are things I have to deal with.” And like that without warning again, Iren shut down the comms and Isaac was left alone with his thoughts.
“Come own, dam fuck it, why is there never enough time.” And then Isaac had an idea, he was heading just a bit off to the smoke so he turned his bike and then his powers activated, some reported seeing a motorcycle fly like a UFO that day, followed by a cloud of sand in the air.
…
Iren looked up to her screen and knew something was wrong, something shouldn’t have been that incased in ice. Reaching into her ear, she disconnected from Isaac and reached back, she was going to need something big and she was going to need something massive to deal with this.
“Hey Ross, sorry about this but it is seven after so before anything happens were are going to need just you to come down to the school, bring you gun.” Iren spoke with apprehensiveness, and backed up and she stumbled and looked around, she needed something from a distance, and walking back into the white elevator she had the perfect idea.
“Well then let me tell you, something if I told you there was an oil so flammable it could barely be controlled but could be used, and it was green and it was called Wildfire, would you use it in a weapon?”
…
Finn put his foot forward into the ground, the portal just bending to his shoes and his foot lifting off the ground two seconds later as he started to walk. Putting his hands up and stopping the flow of electricity, he clicked the battery pack on his waist and started to drain it into his body, that would be useful for later.
“Here let me share the load.” Bright stopped the group in place and put his hands onto the portal, as the energy spread out, both he and Basil started to maintain the barrier against the fire. Walking forward, the sharks looked around and then the three of them, started to walk. Heading into the dense but burning forest, the fire was put out as the multicolored portal started to roll.
“Well then I think we are viewing this forest through mutli-colored lens, I guess the fire department might have bit much with this one and maybe we should find a way to put this out.” Finn started to walk through the forest, as he looked around, the flames shooting against the portal and burning leaves falling out as their stems were burned.
“I suppose so, but I think we can manage putting this out. I we get some place high then we might have something to work with. Good on you for taking responsibility with that.” Bright walked forward, his right hand extended out and his left hand in the palm of Basil’s, energy was being shared, almost like a set of batteries powering the shield. “I suppose that when the Outsiders of Las Vegas, Washington and Boston combined us all into one group they thought that we would look down on you mortals and take pity but sadly it seemed we only projected our own selves onto you.”
“Well more to you for admitting it, the Riftwalkers can’t even agree on who they should be, should they be in the distance or known to the races, some universes have agents known and as celebrities while in others we hide in the background, hell in my universe two agents, pre-Riftwalker me and Ingram, became singular universe constants and shifted the whole flow of it.” Basil spoke with a disbelief in his voice, putting his spare hand to his head as he too realized somethings as well.
“Well then I think we can agree that both parties have flaws.” Finn triumphantly said as the two looked at him with that smirk. They stood still in the forest and looked around, it was all smoky around and they couldn’t see. The forest was filled with smoke. “This was the forest of the living but now it is only the forest of the dead, the library is silent with all the books that won’t be made from these trees.”
“Strange, such beauty. I’d never image such a stranger idea than a tree growing up on a planet that is a desert, but something that doesn’t only not feel afraid to show off the fact that it is alive but exemplifies it, is amazing, such death comes natural to the wonderer of the desert, but the beauty is something else.” Basil said as he put his hand on the shield, almost touching out of it.
“Both of us, nearly all three of us will survive into the next century and surely at least you and me into the one after that. Sorry.” Bright looked forward at Finn and the shark laughed a bit.
“We’re all very tough sharks, some of us have electrical powers and some of us have regeneration cells and some of us have dragon scales, but really look at us, we are survivors and we are the ones who go on in defiance of entropy and the nanobots seem to be the ones who wish to disorganize it through organization and whatnot.” Bright asserted and Finn had something to think about. How long would he and Isaac survive, one day they would die or one day the world would be the same to them for so long.
“I don’t know, sometimes I think we are the great disorganizer, but what is wrong with the disorganization of the world.” Basil added as they walked forward, a dance of fire and ashes in front of them as they walked forward. “We change this world and make sure that it is never the same, we keep everything interesting, so what’s wrong with keeping entropy on the up and up again.”
“Well that’s wrong on your end about entropy, entropy needs a closed system to work.” Finn corrected the two immortal gods behind him. He didn’t regret it as the two stared him down for speaking. “With you two, you add energy to this universe, you make entropy impossible, you are your own effect to this universe.”
“Well then that’s a different way to think about it.” Basil thought about those works and then felt the shield weaken. Pushing out more energy, he opened his eyes clearly and looked around as blue fire pushed at them. It was closing in and attempting to give them a burial by fire. The shield was tinted in rainbows, spread across Finn and the others faces as the light of the fire shined in. Basil and Bright pushed back as they walked forward, in defiance.
“He doesn’t want us to go this way, there is something he wants to hide this way, maybe a way to escape.” Basil groaned as he slowly pushed forward, putting both of his hands on the shield and pushing it along as it rolled through the rolling fire.
“Come on you two, I know you can do it, both of you working together is going to save this universe and both you working with each other is going to save this town and her people!” Finn yelled as he touched the edge of the shield and pushed forward, it rolled through it and as the energy of the shield vibrated in front of him, he felt heat cast onto his face.
In front of them there was a wall of stone, seemingly eroded after standing bravely against the wind and water that chipped it away. That was it, that was the exit point.
“There forward! Flashpoint must not be able to get us in there!” Finn yelled to the Kagen and Riftwalker as they exited the forest and reached the shade of the rock wall where no trees would grow only bushes. And even with the blue fire of burning leaves and flowers on the ground, Flashpoint’s influence on them was over. Finn looked around and breathed, ahead there was a cave.
“Good job boys, now then into the cave, he can’t spread his fire into there, I am more than willing to bet.” Finn commanded as he walked forward and as he walked into the cave, the two immortals took their hands off the portal walls and pulled it away, their energy sinking back into their fists and it collapsed.
“The heat is bearable from here, I think we can rest and not be worried for Flashpoint finding us here.” Finn said as he backed away from the entrance, the radiation of the fire blasting against his face. Bright nodded, but Basil paused them from traveling deeper.
“Here is a little trick I learned from a prince.” Basil put his hand on the ground and then a shield rose, it was multicolored like the shield but it seemingly had a base, that was its energy source. Basil walked away and seemingly let the shield work on its own.
“Now then deeper into the cave, so that we don’t have to worry about the nanobot appearing without warning, if the shield goes down then I know.” Basil commanded.
“Good idea man, you know for a Riftwalker you seem to be filled with them but who knows for a Kagen so am I.” Bright joked, finally wearing out the rest from that category. Both of the immortals laughed a bit and Finn felt a bit segregated as he started to walk towards the back of the cave.
As the darkness engulfed them, and the humor became worse and worse, Finn raised his hand and allowed some electricity to travel between them. A blue light was shined onto the walls of the cave, the contrast allowing them to see deep into the cave. Looking around, around a curve in the cave the three of them took shelter.
Finally sitting down, the three of them sat with their energies giving the cave a glow, as they waited for something to happen and waiting for an idea to fill their heads. And they waited, and they waited a bit more and a bit more as the thoughts came to their head but nothing was viable, they looked up and around even as the fires of the forest surrounded them in their cave.
“God nothing is happening, he could be right outside and getting ready to do something and we’re just sitting here.” Basil breathed heavily as his breath started to fog, looking around the three of them were still in the same place, in the same cave and in the same forest. They breathed carefully and waited for the oxygen to run out.
“Calm down, we still have plenty of air left and if dealing with the nanobots has taught me anything they are still horrible impatient. We can wait then out, I just know it and we will get back.” Finn stood up and jumped a bit into the air, his arms shaking and shivering as he looked around. Just stretching his head around the corner of the cave, he saw the red glow of fire projected onto the wall.
“Yeah, you would say that, you hide fear behind truths you know, truths you put together. You’re so afraid of the nanobots and us probably that you want to deal with us as quickly as possible put us out onto the high burner.” Bright examined Finn and looked into his eyes, while his voice might have hidden it, his eyes couldn’t hide the burning fire. “There is something more important to you and you want to deal with it before they get hurt, are you having a child. You are.”
Finn backed up as Bright seemingly extracted the information, Finn smiled and put his hand onto his shoulder. Basil laughed a bit and stood up as he looked through the shark’s mind. Finn backed up, he looked around.
“Well good on you, never too young I guess, well don’t quote me on that but what happens with love can’t be judged.” Basil looked at Finn and the shark was about to say something but then he shuddered and looked back through Finn’s eyes as the shark told a very different story. “No, you are having a child but it’s not with your love, well I can’t judge.”
“Hey just do what happens naturally, but at least for your baby’s sake let’s make sure that he or she has a father.” Bright was filled with hope for new life and for old live, as he stood up and looked up. And then he got an idea, putting his hand to the ceiling just applying a bit of energy caused some chunks of rocks to fall down.
“Well then maybe if we go above, the fire hasn’t spread through, because it is a hill and it had a rock wall the fire might not have spread up.” Finn said as he backed up and then the two sharks took the idea and went with it. Bright’s hands glowed as suddenly he threw up a beam into his hands and like that as rock was vaporized and crumbled by his energies, a shaft of light fell down.
“Dull light, probably covered in smoke but that’s good then we might be able to escape, so then you two get on it.” Finn encouraged the two immortals and they both put their hands to the ceiling and blasted energy, like that the massive shaft of light fell into the cave.
“We can get out that way, I call first.” Basil said as he opened his wings and flapped, like that a layer of energy engulfed his body and he shot up, closing his wings up and pushing the air in the rock tunnel out as he flew up towards the top of the sky.
“Don’t worry, you go first and I push you up, just be ready in case Basil does something stupid and gets us noticed.” Bright said as he looked at Finn and like that both of the pure sharks nodded and Finn stood in front of the hole, he checked himself and then he jumped up. Suddenly a shield of energy below him grabbed his feet.
The shark stood still as he shot up, the wall of the rock shaft was completely clear like a tunnel and he stood still as he just barely avoided the edges hitting his feet or shoulder. And then like that he arrived at the top, popping out with a satisfying little gust of air and a low whistle, Finn edged just a little to his left and landed on the unburnt ground.
“Wow.” Both Basil and Finn looked around, even as fire from large trees and embers in the air attempted to strike down on the ground and catch the little strip of paradise on fire. The little piece of risen land stood defiantly in the way and as Basil joined then on the cliff, all three of them looked out and around, this was amazing.
The Latin chorus sang a song of rebirth and Finn looked around, while the fire was spread out maybe twenty miles out in all directions, all of it would survive, no towns or major roads seemed to be involved. Everything but the cabin would return on its own.
“Nature can rebuild itself and it can deal with it on its own, but what do you say we just give her a bit of a helping hand.” Finn looked over to the two immortals before him and as he said it they looked ready to do something amazing, but then suddenly a specter of fire appeared before them, just barely could he make out Flashpoint’s face with in the fire.
“Say nothing Outsider but only though my master’s generosity you have all survived, consider this a permit to live on to another day. But soon he will run out of amazement for you and he will kill you, you should know that.” Flashpoint then disappeared into the fire and looking back, Finn looked at the two immortals.
And then suddenly an energy collision happened in their hands, Finn’s curse was blocked by the soundwave as he ducked to the floor and then suddenly a massive wave spread across the forest, knocking the leaves off the trees but setting the fire out, the entire land was covered in the wind as the land smoldered and the fire stopped.
The land in front of them was covered in a gritting layer of brown realism but before the cursing twelve year olds could invade, Finn looked out and saw a dust cloud in the distance, on top of it was Isaac, on a floating motorcycle.
…
Erick tried to push himself through the ice as he felt the cold push through his body. He felt the hope escaping from his body, just like the water dripping on his head and then he realized the paradox that came with that. And then suddenly, he fell on the floor, the ice around him turning into water. Landing on the ground, Erick looked around and saw everyone.
Looking around, in the dragon he saw a piece of ice stuck in his palatable shoulder skin, Erick stood up and felt the memories entering his head. He breathed for a second and looked at the jock. Walking over, and scraping over the floor, Erick reached behind him and grabbed the ice.
“Hold on this is going to hurt a bit but it will be better than having that melt in your chest.” Erick grabbed the ice and pulled at it, only a simple cut remained, looking at it. It probably be healed easily enough, and like that the jock awoke to life.
“Oh god, this is going to hurt my throwing arm.” The dragon said as he groaned to life and looked forward at his saver. Erick leaned forward. “But I think being rescued by you might make up for it, name’s Joss and you seem like a good time.”
“Uh, well name’s Erick, same here but don’t get comfortable yet, there is still someone else to be dealt with.” Erick stood up and grabbed Joss’s hand, the dragon getting pulled up and holding his hand over his bloody shoulder. Erick looked around and almost expected something to happen, but nothing did. “Well then we nearly, are their but still some things we have to do yet.”
“Oh don’t worry Outsiders, my master has decided to spare you for now, so consider this a bit of a draw.” The voice of Frostbite shuttered through the room and they looked around as the ice around the school melted. It seemed that they were free from Frostbite’s attack, for now at least. But that was obvious.
“You’re an Outsider, well I’ve heard stranger things but makes sense in context, you were always disappearing during class, I just thought you were doing drugs in the bathroom but seems that you are the good kid, fun.” Joss said as he stood up and looked around, Pavlock landed on the ground and stood up, he looked beat and defeated.
Pavlock grabbed the wall and balanced against it as he looked around, he had a look of horror on his face. Looking around the orca seemingly saw something that the others didn’t. Erick looked over and then he saw it as well, it seemed that the nanobot had one last defense. Erick threw himself in front of Joss and then suddenly he felt blasted.
The entire school shook and Erick felt knocked back as he was thrown through a layer of brick and a layer of rubble. Landing on the ground, he felt the dragon underneath him and to his left was Pavlock, the orca looked fine as well. Suddenly Iren was standing above him, nearly and pulling him off.
Erick felt frosty, and looking forward he saw what had happened. A massive ice blast replaced the previous classroom, that was bad. Erick laughed at his immortality and groaned as he felt his joins all bent out of shape, standing up, he looked around and looked at Iren and Ross, both of them had a lot of weapons, and a massive RPG in the case of the pregnant tiger.
“A bit prepared there for the worst were you?” Erick complemented Iren and got on his knees, he looked down at the dragon. Grabbing Joss off the ground, Erick was nearly swept off his feet as he pulled him to the air. Both of them stood still, as tiny snow particles fell down from the sky.
“Ok you two, no need for some kind of musky make out scene in the snow, we all need to look around and make sure that Frostbite isn’t going to do anything, can I assume that our secret has been blown to most of the school?” Iren asked as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a pill.
“Ok don’t give them re-con, most of them don’t know, everyone but Pavlock and Joss are blissfully unaware and now I am in the perception filter. Pavlock is going to help us, he might be able to cure the nanobots and Joss, well Billy gets to keep his memory and they caused the stains on the wall.” Erick spoke like a master defender, and the last tidbit caused both Joss and Iren to blush for massively differently reasons but blush non the less.
“Fair enough, but the people of the city aren’t going to like this, the school was attacked. The school is the foundation of the city, the city won’t like that feeling of uneasiness and they will push us, let’s hope that your professor can do something.” Iren said as she started to walk, she put her hand on her stomach and breathed a bit.
“Don’t strain yourself, the nanobots might be in all of us and your baby might be the few no infected with it, surely you might be dealing with a generation that would be free of that.” Pavlock reached over and grabbed Iren, the tiger looking at the professor as he helped her.
“The nanobots are inside of us all, it might sound shocking but the stuff they throw that transforms people, that is inside pools are activated nanobots, they can self-replicate but not enough to take over a body, but all of them in the air can and in your lungs well then once activated meets non-activated then you have a taken over body.” Pavlock explained.
“Well then you sound like you have a fun group.” Pavlock turned towards Erick and looked at the lizard, just a little smaller, just a little shorter, a bit less muscular and a bit paler. “But it’s fun and maybe hanging out can give us all the morality chain we need.”
“I hope so as well, because this city is going to find its self-challenged in the future, and the answers aren’t going to be clear but maybe, well just maybe we can figure this out together.” Erick smiled and put his hand out, he rubbed it against the dragon’s hand and the reptiles blushed and then they grabbed hands.
…
“So then it’s come to this, I’m sorry that this had to happen to you and I never meant for my double life to spill over, but it seems it had.” Finn leaned against his parent’s bed, he put them together, the human and the shark deserved to be together in their final moments.
“Whether or not the nanobots are shutting down your systems or not, I will find a better revenge for you.” Finn leaned against the bed and just touched his father’s feet, there was no response, they were nearly vegetative but still they were going in deeper than that and soon they would be nothing but empty containers.
“Sort of a moral folly, I never really think about the effect of my life on you guys but you guys have seen it all the time, from me being late, to my relationship with the nicest guy in the world.” Finn monologued to his parents. “I wonder if you can hear me, if you can still take in all these words, I doubt it, this is mostly for myself I guess.”
Isaac sat outside of the room on a chair, looking in with a tear on his face as he watched Finn go over his parent’s nearly dead body. He looked at the heart beat monitors of both of them, they were nearly in sync. As more and more time passed, the time between beats lengthened ever so slightly.
“I don’t know to be sad or happy for you, because you aren’t like me, you don’t have my bones or muscles, you would have stayed like that for a while and might not have healed, you could have been stuck in that bed for a while.” Finn looked down to the floor and wondered about that other universe where that happened and he viewed these floors more and more often. “But now you’re going to be set free, you’re already kind of dead to me, not the best metaphor but you guys are kind of dead.”
“I don’t know if I’ve been expecting this or a miracle, but it seems that miracles are happening less and less often these days, maybe the universe just doesn’t want to bend around its rules.” Finn turned around and leaned against the white plastic of the bed leg. “Seems that I’ve accepted this happening as well, but all and all we come out of this pretty good, more freedom for me and more freedom for you, just save me a spot.”
“I guess what I am trying to come back to is that while you might not have known about everything, you guys did pretty well for what you did know.” Finn leaned against the white bedleg and then he heard the sound, two flat lines. “Wow, I did bore then to death.”
And then the flatlines settled into nothing but a single tone in Finn’s ears and he stood up, he looked at his father’s and stepmother’s faces and he saw a subtle smile on their faces.
“Well maybe you didn’t do that bad for a son either, how do you feel?” Isaac solemnly said as he walked in and wrapped his arm around Finn’s neck, hoping to comfort the shark. Finn sighed a bit and looked at them.
“I don’t know, I feel empty. How long was this coming for them, how long were they destined to do this? And how long until the nanobots do something like this again, and how long until they kill another civilian we know?” Finn asked in a monotone voice, his voice was truly empty and truly void of volume. Isaac looked down at the ground and said nothing for a few seconds.
“Exactly, how long until this becomes routine, I don’t want his to happen anymore, we need to do something about this, stop the Kagens and Riftwalkers, the nanobots as well.” Finn leaned back against the bedframe, a little tear coming out of his eye, a nurse stood at the entrance of the room and Finn let her in, as she gave condolences and covered their eyes. “Old life must be given for new life, the cycle starts anew and the chaos of life starts again, recycled.”
“I know just don’t feel bad about it, you can have feelings about this and you don’t need to hide yourself, don’t bottle it up, don’t be an adult about it, be a kid and let your feelings out, be truthful.” Isaac said as he leaned against Finn’s body and rocked him back and forth, the actuators in his leg covering the pure drowning out of hospital equipment noise.
Finn let some tears fall out of his eye and Isaac just leaned onto Finn and neither of them said anything as he looked down at his dead parents, dead by the nanobot’s hand. It was a bad day in Carson City, as the smoke and ashes of the San Bernardino fire blew over the city and the school was exploded and two sharks found themselves with a mission to do something about the threats to the city.
