Chapter Nine
“What Happened"

Once the alarm was over, we were able to sneak outside the dome and return to the helicopter rocket. We flew back to their moon base after it finished transforming. I was silent the rest of the way and luckily neither Nu’al nor Torrel spoke to me.
While they were made over that nonsense they created I was more upset that I had seen Mother Abby lie right in front of me. This bothered me a great deal because if she could so casually lie to people that were her allies, then what lies had she told me? This made me doubt everything she had said to me.
I could also understand why the other rebels had broken away because I had n o doubt she had lied to them also. They must have found out and decided to break away because they could not trust her. Unfortunately, I needed them to figure out what was going on otherwise I wouldn’t have returned.
“Those two fools are driving me crazy,” Mother Abby complained. Torrel and Nu’al sat by listening but they remained silent. She did not give them much of a chance to reply because once she finished one thought she bounced to another.
“I don’t know who this person is that they want me to meet and why they insist on seeing me. I’m tired! I’m tired of having to hold their hands through everything. I just want a moment’s rest… Is that too much to ask.” She suddenly stopped as her cell phone beeped suddenly. Nu’al picked it up and read the text message.
“Dr. Mike has found something and wants a visual chat.” Nu’al replied as he put the phone back down.
“Already? That was quick. How does he want to talk?” She asked.
“Secure video chat. You remember how to do those right?!” Nu’al asked.
“I do.” Torrel said but no one was paying him any mind.
“You set it up for me Sugar because I gotta make sure everything is prepared.” She said and Nu’al walked over to a computer and started typing away on it.
Mother Abby walked over and grabbed my arm then pulled me to stand next to her in the center of the room. I saw Torrel slink away to his own room looking dejected and made me feel sorry for him for some reason.
“You’e on in 3…2…1…” Nu’al said then he pointed at us as a TV screen in front of us had Dr. Mike on it. He looked at us and smiled but it seemed fake to me but then I was starting to get suspicious of everyone.
“Hello Doctor,” She said.
“A pleasure as always.” He replied. They had taught me previously that if we were to make calls that we can’t use our real names in case the call is being monitored. That would clue them in that it was us speaking if we did.
“How can we help you today?” She asked.
“I think I discovered what happened and how to fix it. The chances that something like this could occur are astronomical to begin with. The truth seems evident but we seemed to have caused this.” He said as he rambled on while I was trying to follow what he was talking about.
“Huh?” Mother Abby replied elegantly.
“Sorry, let me explain. You’ll have to forgive me because this is all so exciting. You see Peter does not belong in this world. The amount of radiation unleashed in our world has disrupted it somehow.
We’ve never seen anything like this in science before but a type of wormhole was created and as near as I can figure it moves around from time to time. The night Peter arrived in our world the entrance to the wormhole centered on him in his bed. Since he was asleep it was easy for him to get pulled through it into our world.
So we must find the worm hole and leave Peter in it to get pulled back into his world. However, before you ask, there is something about Peter’s makeup that allows him to pass through soi no one else can go through them. Well as far as I know.
I’d have to study the wormhole and its effects further to get a better idea of what we’re deal.ing with.” Dr. Mike explained.
“So if this wormhole moves around then how can we find it to send him home?” Mother Abby asked.
“I have some instruments that I believe can help us detect the location. If Peter leads us to the bed he slept in we can scan the area to see if and where it moved to.” Dr. Mike said.
“Wait so he wants us to come get him so that he can sound the alarm as we try to help him leave the dome?” I asked incredulously. How could he even be trusted when he was trying to help the Dome citizens arrest us?
“He does have a good point, Doctor.” Mother Abby replied. Dr. Mike frowned and I was not sure if that was because he was caught? Or was he actually trying to help and he saw the distrust I had in him.
“But you KNOW why I do that don’t you? In order to keep myself in a key position I can’t be seen associating with the quote unquote enemy. This does not mean that I am the enemy.” Dr. Mike tried to explain.
“Doctor, how can we find this portal or wormhole or whatever it is?” Nu’al interrupted. Although he had kinda addressed this I think that Nu’al was trying to get everyone bac k on track.
“As I mentioned I have scanners that I’ve calibrated to detect faint particles left behind by the wormhole moving from one location to another. I won’t bore you by getting too technical but if we follow the trail then we can find where the entrance moved to.
The trouble is that there is no knowing how far it moves and how often it may take some time. This means increased exposure to the remaining radiation still present. I believe we're gonna need some radiation suits in addition to the usual drugs.” Dr. Mike said.
“Peter, can you lead us back to your house where you woke up?” Mother Abby asked.
“Yeah I know the place like the back of my hand. It’s on Church St.” I said.
“Good then we can arrange where to meet up so we can go. If we’re lucky we can have you back to your own world in no time.” Dr. Mike said. I smiled but felt a bit uneasy after everything that had been happening.
What concerned me was that if they found a way to send me home then what would stop them from sending others or trying to invade my world? There seemed to be better technology here because they had helicopters that could fly into space. What else could they possess that my world did not?
I realized I was being cynical but after they had falsely accused me and I had caught Mother Abby being dishonest. I realized that from the beginning I had been too trusting. If they nearly destroyed their own world then what would they do to mine?
Dr. Mike had said that I was the only one that could travel through the wormhole because of something with my DNA. I suddenly remembered they had also taken samples of my blood so they could always try to use that to send their soldiers or even their dome city, if they made enough of my blood, to enter my world and destroy us.
It would be beneficial for them to do so since my world isn’t irradiated and we don’t have some of the weapons they have. They could try using their fortress and irradiate my world like theirs is.
“We have some business to attend to tomorrow but the following day we can meet up in the park and you can come with us out of the dome. We can say we may have discovered a new lifeform and you want to investigate it.” Mother Abby said. I felt myself frown knowing that more lies are involved because growing up I had always been very truthful.
“Good that gives me some extra time to gather what I need and to double check that everything is calibrated perfectly.” Dr. Mike replied gleefully.
“Until then, Doctor.” She replied and Nu’al turned off the monitor.
“The feed is cut.” Nu’al said without looking at us.
“What are we doing tomorrow?” Torrel asked innocently.
“We have to go meet up with Cayden, Baker, and Tiger. I promised those fools I’d see whatever their little problem is. Torrel and myself will go while you, Nu’al, and Peter go to the house and check it out. See if we can find something, anything, to our advantage in case the “good” doctor tried something.”
“Sure,” Nu’al replied dismissively. The feeling was mutual because I didn’t want to have to be with him either. Of course, I wanted nothing to do with any of them but I still needed their help if I ever hoped to return home.
I thought about what I could do once I got home because if I tried telling anyone about being sent into another world they would just say it was a dream. Even if I tried top warn everyone about an attack from this world they’d call me crazy and ignore my warnings.
“Does that mean we have to fly to Mt. Fire?” Torrel asked.
“Yes sweetie.” Mother Abby said.
“Cool!!!” Torrel replied gleefully. I looked at him them silently looked at Mother Abby so that she might explain why Torrell was so happy about going to Mt. Fire, wherever that is.
“Does Mt. Fire exist where you live?” She asked me.
“I don’t know of any Mt. Fire.” I replied.
“You see The Forest Thorn Deltas made their base next to a live volcano. The cut into the side of the mountain and use the lava as an energy source. They also have the best and only hot springs they build as part of their base. Torrell loves to play in them and we don’t always get a chance to visit.”
“Weird, we don’t have any live volcanoes in my city.” I remarked. The others just looked away dismissively for some reason. They hurried off while I tried to think of something that could let me be alone for a while.
