Chapter Ten

“Forest Thorn Delta"

By

Furry Sith Lord

Everyone was again silent as we flew to The Forest Thorn Delta base. I ended up looking out the window and viewed the landscape. I ended up recognizing a few places but most of what I saw looked different than what I was used to.

We arrived at a small mountain that had the side carved out so that it looked like the side of a spaceship. The side opened and a runway extended for us to land on. Once we were in place and the engine was turned off the runway was pulled inside like a tongue reentering a mouth. The hatched closed and everything was dark for a few moments then the lights turned on.

“Amazing,” I muttered to myself and heard Nu’al and Torrel snicker.

“Come on, let's get this over with.” Mother Abby remarked and the three of us followed her as she walked into the base. Whole whole place looked like a spaceship from a sci-fi movie as steel and metal held special sealing in place to block out the radiation.

Three teemagers, who looked older than Nu’al, sat at a large table. Cayden sat in the middle of them and I saw his Mohawk hairstyle that was dyed blue. The roots looked dark and it seemed like he was getting close to having to bleach his hair again as the blue was difficult to see over his natural dark color that was returning.

Baker and Tiger were the two on the sides of him. Tiger seemed like a regular kid except he was wearing a large tiger onesie over his regular clothes. He had brown hair, from what I could see, and a few strands of hair on his chain like he was trying to grow a goatee but wasn’t having much success so far.

Baker had jean shorts on and a tye dye t-shirt. An ashtray was in front of him with several used cigarette butts in it. I couldn't smell smoke so I guessed that Baker hadn’t smoked in a while.

“So who is this person that you want us to meet?” Mother Abby asked impatiently. They seemed to ignore her as they stared at me. She was getting more and more impatient by the second.

“Well!!!” She said as her voice was on the verge of screaming.

“Come with me, I’ll take you to him.” Cayden replied finally and he took her by the hand and led her away. The other two just watched us as an uncomfortable silence grew.

“So… uh… what's it like to live in a space station inside a mountain?” I asked weakly hoping to get someone speaking.

“Don’t you know how to say anything else?” Tiger asked and I stared at him wondering what he was talking about. Baker leaned over and whispered something to him then they both laughed and Tiger mumbled an apology to me.

By this point I had enough of them and hoped Mother Abby could hurry. I was dying to meet up with Dr. Mike so I could go home. I had enough of this strange world and its strange people. Torrel tried talking to them but they quickly ignored him. Nu’al was watching everything but acted like he was uninterested.

I turned to walk away and just looked around while Baker and Tiger were whispering to each other and ignoring Torrell. After an hour or so Mother Abby returned with his face looking ashy. She stared at me like she were seeing a ghost and wondered what was it that everyone kept staring at me.

“Come on boys,” She ordered and Cayden tried to block her path.

“But can you help us?” He asked.

“There is nothing I can do for any of you. You boys are on your own. Let’s go.” She replied and we followed her back to the helicopter. I glanced back as the three of them looked at each other and shrugged.

“So? What was all that about?” Torrel asked.

“Those damn fools got in it this time. I dunno what they did… but they…. let's just leave it at that. I gotta talk to Dr. Mike ASAP.” She replied. She would not say anything else for the rest of the way back to their space station. Not that I wanted to talk to any of them.

I thought about ways to keep busy at the station so I could have some time to myself. I thought about going to the shooting range and hopefully none of them would think the same thing.

Back at their space station as Peter and Torrel went off Nu’al grabbed his mother’s arm and pulled her aside.

“What is going on? I’ve never seen you so shaken.” He said. He frowned as he saw her look around to make sure the other two were gone.

“Caydn pulls me into the other room and guess who was there? Peter was! Well not sure if it was our Peter or the Peter of this world. Either way his body was mutated and twisted.” She explained.

“He knew about us?” Nu’al asked.

“He knew everything… somehow… except… I dunno but he was asking about Dr. Mike and his experiment. It’s like their minds are somehow linked and The other Peter may know our secrets because he learned them from our Peter.”

“We gotta call Dr. Mike right away!” Nu’al said and they ran to their computer to place the call. It rang for several seconds then finally he answered.

“Hello,” Dr. Mike said and he brightened as he saw their faces. Mother Abby explained everything to him as he started making notes.

“That’s something I had not considered. Of course, there was always the probability that there would be a Peter in this universe. Ignoring that the Peter of this universe could have died long ago but it would be hard to tell until they meet.” Dr. Mike rambled.

“Can they read each other’s thoughts?” Nu’al asked.

“It’s possible because identical twins have been known to be able to sense what the other is thinking or feeling. However we’ve never, that I know of, had a situation where one person from another dimension crossed over into a different dimension and met himself.”

“So what do we do?” Mother Abby asked.

“At this point, nothing. If the other one is with another group then you have nothing to fear from his knowledge. Once we send your Peter back to his dimension I figure the balance will shift and correct itself.” Dr. Mike explained.

“But the other one is asking to see you.” Mother Abby said.

“This is good because I can meet with them after we snd your s back to his home. I can then find out if there is a connection and the results of sending the one you have back to his home.” Dr. Mike said.

“Speaking of which, how soon is that?” Nu’al asked.

“Tomorrow! I have everything ready and we can meet up outside the dome whenever you wish. The earlier the better because I’;m hoping you’ll bring me to meet the other Peter so I can study him.”

“You better be ready because he is twisted. His body somehow mutated into…. whatever it is that he is now.” Mother Abby said.

“Fascinating. Do we know if he was always like that or was your Peter coming here the reason for his mutation?” Dr. Mike asked.

“How the hell would we know? You’re the scientist!” Mother Abby complained.

“Did he say anything? Like how he got that way?”

“No, he was talking about wanting to see you and to see if the experiment did that to him.” She explained.

“That is important information because it points to the fact that cross dimensional travel may have had side effects.” Dr. Mike said.

“What does that mean for our Peter?” Nu’al asked.

“My hypothesis is that by breaking the walls that separate our realities something was bought through and mutated the Peter of this world. If I had a guess then when your Pdeter leaves he will take what he brought with him and the Peter of this world will become normal again.” Dr. Mike explained.

“Could opening these doorways between dimensions cause problems for all of us of both worlds?” Nu’al asked.

Peter put down the handgun he held after using the last bullet in the clip. He went about refilling the clip when Torrel walked in. Peter tried to ignore him as he saw the startled expression on his face as he saw him.

Peter ignored him as he started speaking and just continued to load the clip when he jumped as Torrel pulled his earphones off.

“I SAID NICE JOB” Torrel shouted. Peter looked at him skeptically then mumbled a thank you. “I’ve been thinking and I’m sorry,” Torrel said and Peter flinched then put down the clip and looked at him with his arms folded across his chest.

“Buds?” Torrel asked as he held out his fist for a bump.

“Friends,” Peter said finally as they bumped fists.

“Alright! I challenge you to a shoot off!” Torrel said as he went to get his pistol. Peter shook his had but smiled and finally forgot why they had been fighting in the first place.
