Chapter Eight

“The Escape"

By

Furry Sith Lord

Torrel and Nu’al met up with us at the rendezvous point. They stad stuffed the supplies they stole in large backpacks when the saw us casually walk up to them as if nothing was wrong. This had been part of their plan where they try and make themselves not look suspicious.

The next part was to wait until the alarm ended so we could casually leave the city under the disguise of going out to do scientific research.

“How’d it go?” Nu’al asked as we met up with them.

“Stubborn pig headed fool,” Mother Abby swore under her breath and I saw Torrell laughing.

“They should get a room already.” He joked and Nu’al looked away smiling.

“So what happens now?” I asked nervously. I looked around and saw people walking about going about their daily business as if the alarm we heard was not going off.

“We wait until the all clear, then we leave and wait for Dr. Mike to contact us.” Mother Abby explained.

“Dr. Mike? The guy that just triggered the alarm on us? Why on earth should we trust him after what he did?” I asked incredulously.

“Hush now, he has to sound the alarm in cas he’s being watched. He can’t appear to be our ally or he could face serious consequences.” Mother Abby said but I was not really convinced. He seemed almost too happy to sound the alarm.

Nu’al jumped as his phone beeped and he looked at it then addressed Mother Abby.

“You have an email from Forest Thorn Delta,” He said gruffly.

“It can wait until I get home.” She replied.

“Looks important.”

“It always does. Cayden thinks everything is the end of the world.” She replied again and Nu’al just shrugged as he put his phone away. This gave me a chance to pull Torrel aside.

“Who’s Cayden?” I whispered.

“He’s the leader of The Forest Thorn Delta. He’s a few years older than Nu’al so ma ma still treats him like a kid.”

“He IS still a kid. I still don't know what possessed him and his two buddies to start their own group. Foolish if you ask me.” She complained to herself as we listened.

“They’re a bunch of clowns who’s heads got too big and they think they can do it all on their own. We end up pulling their butts outta the fire most of the time.” Nu’al complained and Torrell chuckled.

“I can only imagine what they want help with THIS time. They’re gonna have to wait though because we have our hands busy with this one. Quick boys act natural.” Mother Abby said as a couple of police Officers were walking towards them.

“Look, I'm telling you Pikachu is the best Pokemon!” I pretended to argue with Torrel. He frowned at me then countered.

“Pikachu? Are you crazy?! Charizard is the best hands down. He;’s a dragon and his fire breath,” Torrel said then he pretended to act out a dragon breathing fire. “Will burn Pikachu to a crisp.

“Will you two shut up! Everyone knows that Arceus is the best EVER” Nu’al said as he joined in our conversation. The police officers seemed to b e vaguely listening and they smiled and nodded at Mother Abby before they continued as we continued to argue about Pokemon. At one point Mother Abby told us to hush up and I think I heard one of the officers chuckle.

We were relieved when they finally moved past and ignored us as we argued about pokemon. Torrel kicked my sneaker after they left as he said something under his breath about Pikachu. I just rolled my eyes but let it go because it was not worth getting into an argument over.

Even though everyone that has ever watched the show knows Pikachu is the best and no one can ever seem to beat him. Some have come close but he is unstoppable even if Torrell wants to be delusional about it.

“Good plan Suga, they never expected a thing.” Mother Abby complimented me. Nu’al was busy looking elsewhere while Torrell sulked.

“I’m just glad you guys actually have Pokemon in this world, or whatever, because otherwise I’d look like a fool.” I replied.

“Of course we have Pokemon! They chose the best and the brightest so video game developers was a part of that. We got Pokemon, God of War, Zelda, Street Fighter, you name it.” Nu’al said his voice had a slight edge to it.

“Oh course he’d think that. He thinks we’re all a bunch of redneck hicks.” Torrel grumbled.

“I never said that!” I shouted and was shushed for being too loud. I saw a rock on the ground and I kicked it as it went zooming across the street. I was beginning to see why the others broke off to start their own groups. If they were gonna be dishonest about me then I could see how they treated the others.

We waited for about an hour then finally the alarm stopped, not that anyone was really paying attention. From what I heard other passerbyers saying this was almost a daily occurance. We mostly stood around in silence as Nu’al and Torrel now refused to talk to me. Not that I really minded because I had nothing to say to them either.

Mother Abby separated us again and Nu’al and Torrell ran off to the rendezvous point while we waited before we proceeded. Mother Abby tried telling me to forgive her sons that none of this easy easy for any of us. I could agree up to a point but I refused to forgive without an apology. They had no right to say the things they did when I had never said any of that.

Her cell phone rang suddenly ending our conversation as she looked at the screen and groaned as she read the caller ID.

“What do you two want? I'm too busy for any foolishness.” She stated firmly.

“I realize that Mother Abby but you won’t believe what we found.” Cayden replied. He talked loud enough that I could just about hear him as I walked next to her.

“Yeah, trouble with a capital T and I want none of it.” She said.

“No, we actually found a….. a mutant! A real live mutant and he may not be the only one of his kind.” Cayden explained excitedly. Mother Abby rolled her eyes then shook her head in disbelief.

“What nonsense is this?!” She asked.

“I don’t know how but it knew where we made our base. It walks in having two heads and saying that it needs our help in contacting you. Say you know who he or it is and only you can help him er… it. I’m not even sure what to call it. I guess a male if mutant’s that has two heads can be male.” Cayden explained excitedly.

“So let me get this straight, a two headed freak walks into your base and says it needs my help because it knows me? Then why didn’t it contact me in the first place?” She demanded to know but the look on her face was highly skeptical.

“I dunno, It’s not like it was my ida to have one of these things walk in here. I didn’t know they even existed until now…. hold on it’s telling me something……… something about the fabric of space and time breaking down due to radiation. He says you’ll understand what he’;s talking about.” Cayden said as he seemed to be having multiple conversations at the same time. Mother Abby covered up the speaker so she would not be heard.

“This fool probably found something new growing and tried to smoke it. He’s out of his bloody mind if you ask me.” She whispered to me.

“Will you help us?” Cayden asked.

“I’m busy right now but as soon as I’m able I’ll be there.” She replied.

“He asked if you’re gonna lie this time like you did last time.”

“Lie?! What are you talking about?”

“He said the last time you promised, you told him you were lying. Are you lying to us?” Cayden asked.

“I would never! Whoever this person is that says they know me doesn’t know me at all.” Mother Abby replied indignantly.

“Didn’t you just say you were lying to them?” I whispered. She covered up the phone before she whispered back.

“I am but they don’t need to know that!” She whispered, then uncovered the phone and spoke to Cayden.

“I’m in the middle of a mission. Once I’m done I’ll call you right back. I promise.”

“Make sure you ask Dr. Mike to help because he thinks this will need his expert… um.. Ts on this.” Cayden said.

“OK no problem I’ll contact him and see what we can do.”

“Oh he said his name’s Peter so you should know who he is.” Cayden added and Mother Abby looked at me in confusion. I just shrugged.

“Looks like I’m meeting a bunch of Peters lately.” She remarked as she hung up the call.

“Another Peter? It couldn't be me could it?” I wondered what was going on.

“Don’t be stupid there’s only one of you and you’re here with me now. There’s no way you could be with them now… The more I think about it I bet one of my boys is playing a game with us. Nu’al found the email so what do you want to bed he pit them up to it.” She said as she smiled.

“Would he really do something like that?” I asked.

“What can I say? He has a strange sense of humor. I wouldn’t put it past him. to try and stir things up just for a laugh.”
