Chapter Seven: The Mage

The hooded person made some movements with their hands and a large wave of fire moved all of the guards in front of us out of the way. The person turned and gestured for us to run, all the while keeping their face hidden. We did as the person said knowing we stood no chance against so may guards. We ran, following right behind the mysterious hooded person. We ran out of the town and into the woods. We ran for a good hour before the hooded person we were following stopped. I leaned on a tree panting softly, Serra and the hooded person seemed fine with all the running. Blake on the other hand had fallen onto the ground panting heavily.

"What the hell was that about?" Serra asked turning to me.

"I don't know, they said someon-" I started.

"They were after your friend here." The hooded person said, their voice sounded female.

"Why?" I asked.

"Someone from your master killed their lord." It said.

"Oh, well why did you help us?" I asked.

"Because they locked me away from something I didn't do." The hooded person said.

"I see." Serra said. "Well, why don't you take off that hood of yours?"

"Because, he might know me." The hooded person said pointing at me.

"What do you mean?" Serra asked.

"His whole clan has been ordered to kill me by their master." The person said.

"Well, you don't have to worry about him, Drake will not hurt you." Serra said.

"Wait, Drake? So that means, you are Serra? And the fox must be Blake." The person said.

"Yes, that is us." Serra told her.

"You are all wanted by his clan." The person said. "I am Alexis."

The hooded person pulled off their hood. It was a girl as I had thought, and a raptor none the less. She seemed to be about five foot five. She smiled at us, moving a strip of hair out of her eyes. Her scales were red, her eyes a deep blue. Her hair was green and short up front but long in the back.

"Well, it's nice to see your face." Serra said with a smile. "If you want to, you can come with us. Seeing how we are all wanted by the same people we can stick together."

"No, I would not want to burden you with another soul to care for." Alexis said.

"No burden, just one if you don't stay." Serra said.

"Well, I could use the company." Alexis pondered.

"So, you'll stay?" Serra asked.

"Yes." Alexis said with a bright smile.

I looked over at Blake, and could tell he had not taken his eyes off of Alexis since she came in. I nudged his arm with my foot paw and he looked over at me. He must have realized what I knew, he blushed a bit and looked at the ground.

"So, I believe here is a good spot for camp." I said looking around the clearing. "It is getting late after all."

"Looks good to me." Serra said with a smile. "Blake go get some food. I will go get the fire wood like before, us two will set up camp."

"Got it." I said and started to walk off.

I noticed that Blake was not moving so I grabbed him and pulled him up. He moved and followed along with me. I started to pick up some pieces of wood and he walked off into the brush. I grabbed a large enough pile of wood for a fire and wood for later. I went back to camp and set up the wood so that it would burn easily.

"So Drake, any idea why your master might want us dead?" Alexis asked me.

"Not a clue. Could be because of my failed assassination of Serra." I told her.

"You were supposed to kill her?" Alexis said shocked. "Why didn't you?"

"She saved my life, and now I must repay that." I told her.

"Oh, right. The assassins oath and such." She said. "So what, you two a couple now? Heading out on an adventure?"

"What? No!" I said, I could feel my cheeks reddening. "I mean, I am here because I have to be."

"Right, well you seem to be enjoying yourself." She said.

"Maybe I am, what of it?" I asked.

"Nothing, just good to know." She said and walked off to help Serra set up the tents.

I started up the fire and sat there watching it as the world around me slowly grew dark. I must have been lost in thought for longer than I thought. All I knew was that there was a plate of food hovering under my nose. I grabbed it and saw that it was Serra that was holding it. She smiled as I felt my cheeks redden a bit. Serra sat down next to me still smiling, she had her own plate of food.

"Heck of a day today." She said.

"Yeah." I said, it was all I could get to come out of my mouth, so I put some food in and started to eat.

"At least we had some fun right?" She said smiling at me.

"Yeah, fun. Almost getting killed is always a blast." I said grinning some.

"You know you need to lighten up a bit." Serra said and started to eat.

We sat there eating in silence, Blake had went off to set up some traps for breakfast, Alexis had went to sleep, she took the tent that Blake had used. I finished eating and sat my plate down next to me. I looked up at the stars then after a moment my neck started to hurt so I laid back and stared up at the stars. After a few moments Serra laid back next to me. We laid there looking up at the stars for a while.

"Well, it's been a great day, but I'm off to bed. Good night Drake." Serra said.

"Yeah, good night. Serra." I said.

I laid there staring up at the stars, I didn't hear Blake come in, I saw him walk by a time or two but I never heard anything. After a while drifted into a light sleep. I dreamt, of the day that just passed by, but one of the things I could remember most was a kiss.
