Shattered Dementions
#2 of Shattered Dementions
"So tell me why you want to steal his crystal?"
This question was asked by a floating white snake with yellow fins traveling down its spine. It looked down at the glowing crystal that was on a platform with golden eyes. Oddly, as dracidons walked by, no one seemed to notice it floating; almost as if it couldn't be seen. At the end of the tail, a blade grew. The face of the snake vaguely resembled a dragon as well. Behind the cheek, fins also grew.
Beside the snake was a small sky blue dragoness. Her horns, which started to go up before jutting towards her muzzle, were silvery white. Similarly to the snake, she had a spine that reached her bladed tail. Her wings were oversized for her body, and were often times too much of a hassle for her. Claws that matched her horns gripped the stone wall she was dangling from, allowing her to place her head on the top. Silver scales grew on her underside.
Perhaps the oddest thing about her was that she had gleaming ruby eyes. It wasn't uncommon for someone to assume she was possessed by a demon or something odd like that, but the official diagnosis was that she had a case of albinism. The dragoness would state that since she wasn't white, she wasn't albino, but there was no use convincing the thickheads otherwise.
Her body was thin and lithe, and thanks to her small size, she was also very light. It was one of the main reasons why she was dangling instead of perching on the wall. Plus, it was a lot more fun to swing around and act what others call an idiot. However, so long as she was having fun, she didn't care what they said.
"Cuz it's shiny." Was all the dragoness replied. It was a good enough reason to snag that pulsing green crystal next to a large green dragon (large to her, anyway).
"Kayla, I-" The snake was cut off by a flail of her wing.
"Don't call me that, Vormund! I hate that 'la' part of it. It's evil..." Kayla, or Kay as she preferred, grumbled. She didn't know why she hated the 'la' part of her name, but she did.
"...Sometimes I worry about you," Vormund chuckled, shaking its head. Kay stuck out her forked tongue before returning attention to the crystal. Vor, as she called him, was genderless as far as she knew (she had looked many, many times), but had a male voice.
Kay had an unusual attraction to shiny objects, dropping everything and instantly focusing on grabbing it. She had multiple run-ins with the owners of the shinies, but that didn't deter her away from seeking it. Having no use for gold, she would simply keep them to cherish for all eternity. How others didn't understand this was beyond her.
The only part that concerned her at the moment was when this dumb dragon would turn away with his guards and leave the shiny for her. Pulling herself onto the wall and leaping down, she used the bushes as cover. However, on that brief moment on the wall, her front side could be seen. On her chest a half circle scar could be seen on her chest. Kay had no idea how she obtained this scar.
She could remember from when she was four until her current age of sixteen, but somewhere in her ninth year, a void of memory laid. The only thing she could remember from the incident was that there was a scythe coming down on her. After that, Kay remembered being found by Vormund, a weird group of priests, and a shiny object in front of her. Needless to say, she fought to the death trying to get it.
Creeping closer, she saw that the dragon just happened to look away. Bolting from her cover, she snagged it and started to run off.
"WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING WITH THAT?"
Kay turned for a second to see that the green dragon and about several other guards were coming after her. Not expecting the guards, she dove into the bushes again, pressing herself low to the ground. Unfortunately, the guards started to get closer to her and deciding to just screw everything, she spread her wings, taking off.
With the guards behind her, Kay signaled Vor. Vormund leapt in front of a few guards. None of them seemed to see Vor and crashed right into him, spiraling away. Still noting that three guards were still after her shiny and would catch up to her no matter what, she decided to land on a rooftop. There, a thin sheet of ice covered her muzzle, chest, and back. What looked like gloves of ice grew on her claws.
When one guard tried to tackle her, Kay back flipped out of the way. Another was waiting for her there; spreading her wings, Kay managed to land on the guard's head and propel herself up from that. Firing off small ice shards (she didn't want to kill the guards), she almost flailed in excitement watching the ice burst on the ground and nearly knocking out a guard. The third one flew right at her, but she ducked and fired off more ice.
Vormund rejoined her and attacked the guard about to strike her from behind. "Kay, must you always get yourself into these situations? Just because I am your guardian doesn't mean you are invincible."
"I know," Kay turned to him with a daredevil smile, "It's just fun and I can get exercise."
Turning quickly, Kay shoved the crystal into Vormund. The snake had a weird ability to hold objects that she touched inside of his body. Her other element, Fire, was encased in an orb inside of his body. The guards had a perplexed look under their armored muzzles.
"Did you see that?"
"She made the crystal disappear!"
"Is she a witch?"
Taking note that the guards were distracted, Kay flew off, small glitters of ice trailing off of her. It took a minute for the stunned guards to follow her, but by that time, she had discarded the armor and landed in a crowd of dracidons. Moving at a jogging pace, she eventually came across a narrow alley. Making sure she wasn't being watched, she dashed in.
Halfway through the hall, a large block of stone rested. At the same time, Vor's head came through a wall. "I hope you realize you are going to be punished for this."
"They can't hold me." Kay started to push against the stone. It didn't move. Vormund sighed and helped her push it. Slowly, it grinded against the ground. "I'm protected by that church thing. The worst they can do is make me give it back. I don't wanna, though..."
Ever since Kay had awoken and became bound to Vormund, the church openly defended her. They said that she was a prime subject, but for what, she had no idea. Even Vormund seemed to be left in the dark. Kay didn't really care too much; all she wanted was to do was play. She also followed the rule of 'finders keepers' and if she took it, it was rightfully hers.
When the stone was pushed out of the way, a small passage just big enough for her to squeeze through revealed itself. Delaying no longer, she crawled inside.
--
Inside was a moderately lit room decorated by shiny objects. A small reflective wrapping lay in the corner; a sparkling sapphire rested on a shelf; a glittering sphere reflected the sunlight on the windowsill. To Kay, this place was heaven...a home away from home. Only the higher ranking church members knew where this place was.
"One of these days, something bad is going to happen because of your attraction to the 'shinies'." Vormund gently rejected the crystal onto Kay's outstretched wing. Had it been a few inches closer to the wing bone, it would have fallen through a hole. Kay had been in a bad accident a few years back and damaged her wing. It didn't impair her much, but she had to be gentle.
"Oh, you are such a pessimist!" Kay cradled the crystal like an egg before patting Vor's head. "But I wuv you anyway."
In response, Vormund snaked around her body and rested his head on hers. His body was the same size as hers and could change into a small little squiggly snake so that no one could detect him. There were some dracidons outside the church that could see him and they would know she was bonded. One even tried to kidnap her, but Vormund beat her up.
Lazily glancing around the room, Kay wondered what there was to do now. She had no real friends to play with, as they were busy with those things called 'jobs' or something. Finding it rather easy to live, Kay never needed one. For some reason, the males kept trying to go too far with their friendship. It was weird and Kay almost went along with it until Vor, again, stopped him from going further. That male was scared of her now. It was a shame; she had a small crush on him.
"Kay, can you come out here?"
Kay recognized the voice instantly; it was one of the priests. She frequently came by this place to drop food off or to check up on them. Sighing, she went to crawl back out and came face-to-face with the priest. It was an elderly female dragon in a red cloak; a kind yet disappointed expression on her yellow muzzle.
"What is it, Nalda?" Kay asked, tilting her head to the side. There was no food or anything for her...and it was completely off her normal time. In fact, she was three point five hours early.
"I saw you caused a ruckus today, young dragon." Kay rolled her eyes at the priestess's words. Of course this was what it was going to be about.
"I don't understand why he would leave it open like that if he wasn't trying to get rid of it." Kay flicked her tail in annoyance.
"Because I had a future use for it." A voice said from directly behind her. Kay jumped a bit.
Whirling around to in defense, she came across the green dragon from earlier. Now that he was directly in front of her, she could see his features clearer. He had black wing membranes, claws, and thorn-like horns that ran down to the back of his cheek. His underbelly scales were also black. Oddly, his body structure was similar to hers, if a bit thinner. The tail that gently swished behind him like a dog had a club at the end. Bushes and vines ran down his spine, and perhaps the weirdest thing about him was that a large Venus Flytrap grew on his shoulder. If she didn't know any better, she'd say it was looking at her.
Looking into the eyes of the dragon, Kay tilted her head to the side. On his right side, his dark green eye had a pupil; on the left, it was a glowing lighter green without a pupil. Scanning his body, she saw that he had lighter scales that contrasted the right side of his muzzle.
Still, he wanted her shiny.
"Well, you obviously are careless if you keep it out like that!" Kay stuck her tongue out at him.
"I apologize for her, Illthian..." Nalda said, "She is going to give the gem back to you and say she is sorry, right Kay?"
Frowning, Kay saw no real way to get out of it. Even if she ran away, it would lead to more trouble and she didn't want to be yelled at. Although, her attention span was one of a buzzing fly and could be distracted just as easily. The only real thing she needed to do was nod and ask Vor what it was all about later.
Mumbling in protest, Kay handed the gem to this Illthian dragon. When he accepted it, she saw Vormund's head lift up and flick his tongue. She felt him move his head to the side. "What are you doing?" she whispered to him.
"Testing a theory..."
Feeling like she was surrounded by crazy dracidons, Kay started to walk away, disappointed. She really, really, really wanted that shiny. She felt like she was going to explode with energy if she didn't get it back. Deciding to later crawl up and down the building, she figured out how she was going to get it back.
"Actually, before you go...I would like a few words with the three of you." Illthian's words stopped Kay right in her tracks. Did he say...three?
"What do you mean, Illthian?" Nalda asked, "There are but two of us here."
"Explain to me that talking snake wrapped around her in a suggestive manner, then."
Kay slowly turned around to face the dragon that was slowly approaching her. His clawsteps confused her; it was nothing like an organic creature. Was he an alien in disguise bent on taking her brains for food? There was no way she was going to allow him to do that!
"Don't take that position," Illthian commented on her defensive pose, "I have no intention of harming either of you. I just want to talk. You interest me after being able to outrun my guards, having that snake, and, from what I learned from Nalda, having no use for gold and wanting it just to take care of it."
"I won't buy that, alien scum! I refuse to cooperate with your demands!" Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Nalda shaking her head.
Illthian looked at her as if she had grown another head. "Don't mind her. She just has a lot of energy." Vormund spoke to Illthian. Kay branded him a traitor.
"...Right. Well, I won't press any charges if you follow me." Illthian started to walk away, giving her a smug smirk, "I can easily overpower the church's rule."
That was enough for Kay to calm down. If he could overpower the church, then he must be an alien overlord! She would have to be on her best terms and find a weakness. Kay decided to follow him, but if he was a big fat meanie who wanted to gobble her up like in those stories, she would fight to the death.
This little bundle of energy is Kay. Kay is half insane, but smart. She wants your shinies. Give her shinies, and she loves you forever.
(Also, took a new style here. More hyperactive)
