Chapter 10 Promotions
September 26, 2484 / 1730 hours / Barungan system / planet Altair / Military base specialized for Black Rouge's and other special ops.
Six months later
"Hey guys care to guess what today is?" I asked Daniel and Miguel excitedly
"It's promotion day, why?"
"That's not all, I'm guessing it's her something important from her excited expression."
"THAT'S-RIGHT!-I-love-birthday's-no-matter-whose-it-is.-But-even-so-every-birthday-means-we-are-that-much-closer-to-getting-out-of-this-place-and-away-from-Dr.-Orison."
"So your thirteen now right? I remember that you told Dr. Orison that you were twelve back when she first took your suit away."
"Yeah, but as you mentioned earlier its also promotion day, so I get two important things at once, age thirteen and we all get our promotions among all of us, I wonder who will get leader of the thirty man squad we will be functioning in from now on, probably one of us seeing as the three of us have most of the orange suit pieces. Only ones we don't have are the calves, the shoulders and the chest, all three of which we got the green, and the helmets have yet to be earned so it's still up for grabs."
"I don't know but it will probably be you or Daniel."
"Why do you say that Miguel, you're an important part of our team."
"Although the good Dr. could decide to have the only person to ever out think me on the course be our leader just to scorn me and see how I will react, she seems to be wary about how far she pushes me but wants to see how long she can push me before I go after her."
"Yeah I have noticed that as well, although if she really wants to push you she should either do something horrible to Frani which she knows that you have a link of sorts with because the right hand glove is technically a part of her."
"She knows that if she were to do that I would get out of here and kill her."
"True."
"She has been pushing you to the edge of your patience with all of the stunts she has pulled through the instructors with the extremely difficult courses, one of which you actually destroyed because there was no way that we could finish it without someone who was defense oriented."
"Yeah, and I think she can tell that she is getting on my last nerve."
"All Godlikes are to report to the Central Theater for promotions." Blared through the speaker in our three man room, having split all the twenty five man rooms into their separate squads.
"We better go before we test her patience and she sends the instructors."
As we walked out I locked the door behind us with a reinforced sunken lock so that there was no way of Dr. Orison getting in without blowing the door.
At the Central Theater Dr. Orison was standing in the middle watching everyone sit down until she noticed us at which point she watched us until everyone was seated, at which point she cleared her throat "Hello, As you all know today is promotions day, you all know some of what this is about. I'm sure that you have heard some for what this about, The thirty man cells are being made today, as you all know there are eight of you who will be put in charge of these cells, You will become Knight Guardians, there are higher ranks among the Godlikes but for now you are not yet old enough to achieve those ranks. I will now list the names of the eight leaders of these cells, Gordi Civonas leader of cell 1, Barabara of Hive Gorr Leader of cell 2, Hack of Clan Splicer Leader of cell 3,"
"Hey I remember him, I heard Dr. Orison talking about him, before he even came here he Hacked into the computers, without any powers besides enhanced intelligence, and changed his name."
"He-hem, as I was saying Juli of Clan Rue leader of cell 6..."
"Hey you're our leader, probably a good thing seeing as she has already pushed you so far, then she would really learn the true meaning behind your last name."
"Clan name, we don't have last names on Gavin just clan names."
"Right that's what I meant."
"Only reason I have a clan name is because the old man I lived with in the hills was leader of Clan Rue, he didn't like the city however but he took me in as his adoptive daughter, so we both attended clan gatherings every year, but other than that I avoided the city except when we needed food."
"You never explained what happened to him."
"Slicers, they killed him."
"Wait so is that the only reason why you are here, to get revenge on the Arbodu?"
"Yes, and anyone who gets in my way on taking revenge on whoever ordered the attack on Gavin will die as well." That's what I wanted to say but my father taught me that vengeance is never good and anger must always be channeled into something productive to peace in the universe, so I really said "No, Life goes on and we both knew that he was dying for a terrible disease, a blood disease, so the slicers granted him peace in a time of pain, but they also kill many others not only on Gavin but on your home world as well."
"True, they have destroyed so many lives in the name of their 'crusade to purify all evil life'." Miguel put in
"Don't be angry, anger corrodes your thoughts and corrupts your mind, if you let vengeance rule your life then you will one day find that you have dulled your senses to the point that you can't think without getting angry at nothing, consequently bringing death to your door step."
"Yes your right, any time I get angry you calm me down, thank you."
"If you three are done I would like to continue!"
"Yes Ma'am." We said in unison.
"Yes well as I was saying, the Knight Guardians are the forth highest rank in the Godlike program, at all times there will be eight of you furthermore with the exception of later ranks and others beyond the Godlikes you can take command in any situation and are typically battlefield commanders. Questions?"
"Ma'am, what is our first assignment as Knight Guardians?" At this point I noticed that leader of cell 7 was Troie Titan, my enemy in my opinion, the only one to ever beat me at a training exercise.
"Suck up" I muttered, forgetting for a moment that one of his odd abilities was that he could hear anything within one hundred yards when he concentrated and anything within thirty yards was crystal clear to him no matter what.
"What was that, animal"
Even knowing that he was the only one there that had more than one main ability they being element and defense, and since he was defense I knew that without my suit I couldn't hurt him much I rushed him and was at his throat before he could so much as move an inch, "I may be a Gavin but call me an animal and you will learn why my clan name is Rue." Daniel came rushing over but before he could make it there Hack was at my side, "I know that you could hit me before I even moved but before you do anything hasty," he used his power of telekinesis to get my hand off of Troie's neck.
"I don't need your help taking care of this animal, summone..."
Before he even finished the word one of the trainers had put him to sleep with the stun sticks, then waving it in our faces we went back to our seats.
"I suspect that all of you can find your new cell quarters, your squad numbers are on your tags that you picked up on your way in, DISMISSED."
After we all walked out she started talking to her most trusted instructor, Joan "I really am pushing her to far aren't I?"
"Possibly but we need to find out what happens when she actually gets angry, just now and in fact every other incident where we thought she was truly angry her heart rate and other conditions about her body only raised about one percent, even when she destroyed the entire course because you designed it so that without two element gods it was hopeless, she only raised her heart rate by five percent."
"I'm amazed at how far she can be pushed and still not get truly angry."
Back at our old barracks I unlocked the door and we walked inside to gather our stuff when the door closed before I wanted it to, "Hack?..."
"Nice little trick using your metal power to lock the door, you and I are the only ones that thought of that."
"How did you get in, and why are you here?"
"While your idea is impressive, you have complete control of metal you an even make it fuse with other metal when they are both cold, however that is not what you did, you simply made a lock out of the metal and anyone with telekinesis can open the lock by moving the parts inside."
"Ok that answers how you got in but why are you here?"
"Man, hey guys can I talk to her alone?"
"Wait why?"
"Yeah why do we have to leave?"
"I would rather not explain, but to put it bluntly, I like you Juli."
Blushing I said "Guys leave, NOW!" But by the time I finished the sentence they were already out the door.
"I like you Juli, you're the smartest most beautiful girl I have ever met and I lov...."
Before I knew what was happening or heard the rest the world was growing dark.
Ok, from the author, i am going to post the rest of what i have written but i am in the process of rewriting it, so at some point all this will either be taken down or renamed as a roughdraft, that has yet to be decided.
