Chapter 11: Welcome back

Story by Jeeve The Visionary on SoFurry

, , , , , , ,

Sorry about the delay, but life has really been kicking me in the petooie! Though I'm back to regularly scheduled releases!

KYDON KINGDOM: KYOTO’S PRIVATE QUATERS

“Interesting . . .” That was all the large six tailed wolf could say as he reflected on yesterday’s events. Not many things surprised the all powerful ruler, but he still couldn’t believe yesterday’s events. The Ferren Tower, Alteria’s beacon of the military and technological progress, destroyed in mere minutes.

The regal wolf foresaw this as a possibility, but never would have imagined it actually coming to fruition, but here it was, a reality no one predicted. A meek knock on his door roused Kydon from his thoughts causing him to say “Enter Fushia.” A small feline slave entered apprehensively then replied “Master. I am sorry to bother you, but Lady Kydon has requested your presence for dinner.”

“Apologies Fushia, I do not recall Lady Kydon being one to make demands. Tell her I will show my presence when I feel as such.”

“Of course Master. Though there is still a more pressing matter.” Kyoto looked down on the slave and knew exactly what she was going to say before she even uttered a word. “Tell him I am busy as well.”

“ . . . But Master! He’s so persistent! He will not stop flooding our communication lines. It’s been like this, nonstop for hours on end.”

“Richard is a very temperamental bear, he’ll throw a fit for a day or two then he’ll be back to his old self.”

“I hate to counter you Master, but he’s been spouting anti-Kydon rhetoric on the news, along with taking wartime measures. He’s aimed several forward laser cannons this way . . . I fear he may actually fire.”

Kyoto closed his eyes, sighed in a sort of frustrated manner then replied “He always lacked a sort of tact. Fine then, answer his call.” Fushia bowed then pressed a button on the nearby wall, bringing up a live feed of a very angry grizzly bear. The grizzly bear reached inside his suit pocket pulling out a torn fabric with Kydon’s emblem on it and said.

“Tell me K. Do you know what this is?” Kyoto smirked and replied saying “Yes Growland, it’s the Kydon insignia from my daughter’s uniform. Very interesting indeed . . . I take it you’ve killed her?”

“No but I thought about it. It’d be justice for what happened yesterday.”

“Do as you wish with my failure of a daughter. I would honestly prefer if you disposed of her.” Richard looked taken back for a second leaving Kydon to say

“What’s the matter Richard? Do you think I too am happy about what happened over in the Ferren Kingdom? I am engulfed in fury and I will see to it that those responsible are dealt with accordingly.”

“ . . . Well that doesn’t change the fact that my 7.3 billion credit building came tumbling down like a stack of cards! And to top it off this revolution fever is sweeping through Ferren like in Greenlake!!”

“Have you not mobilized the military to take care of the rebels?” Richard slammed his bulking paw on the table shouting “DAMN YOU KYDON!! DAMN YOU!! Your stupid daughter came through here and ‘restructured’ the whole god damn army!! Now I’ve got soldiers running around with their heads cut off trying to stop rebels and help with the clean up! It’s chaos down here and you know what’s even worse?!”

“No I do not know what’s worse.”

“Natalia was here!! The little bitch snuck pass border patrol and organized a little meeting with rebel forces!! Now word is they’re marching on my castle to bring me down!”

“Hmm. Most irregular this is Richard. You say Natalia got through border patrol? Are you sure we’re talking of the same rabbit?”

“Yes you idiot!! Natalia! The rabbit queen from Greenlake! The one you promised you would get rid of! The entire summit believed you, but nooooo!! Where is she now!? Who the hell knows!!? She escaped earlier this morning . . . Sorry K, Let me take my meds real quick.” The presidential bear broke off the seal to his medication and swallowed the pills dry, saying “Sorry . . . I get a little surly without a constant stream of morphine in me.”

“No worries Growland, For I understand your anger. Though you can take comfort in knowing that the patriarch has been effectively eliminated.”

“ . . Really? He’s gone for sure?”

I assure you Richard, he is no more.” The grizzly bear sighed in relief replying “Well if you say so . . . But that doesn’t help anyone! Well what about your daughter!? She may have been a terrible inquisitor, but she was the only one keeping the rebels in line. Now they think they own the place!!”

“Your fear is misplaced as usual. Kira was never meant to be my inquisitor, I gave her that position to placate her ever growing ambition. Though with her now gone, I can call in my other daughter.”

“You got two kids!?”

There is much you do not know about me. Kiza Kydon is a ruthless warrior, purely intent on seeing the destruction of her enemies. I sent her to the outer realms 15 years ago, and she’s obliterated the rebel force there.”

“Sounds like a real monster. Just what I need down here! Though what about Kira? She’s not dead you know, just in the hospitable. You want her back?”

“No. If she wants to come back, then she will get here somehow herself.”

“You are all kinds of cruel . . . I love it! When will Kiza get here?!”

“Hold your zeal. She will be here for the Kingdom Rally opening ceremony.” Richard flashed Kyoto a panicked look, then dove for his personal drawer, scrambling through it. “Shit!! Why didn’t anyone tell me the damned thing was so soon!?!”

“I take it you are not ready for the events?”

“Calm you teats! I already got a team prepared, though I’m worried about the open submission thing you got going on here. What if rebels try and join the games?!”

“Let them join, closed entry has never stopped them before.” Richard huffed then spun around in his chair saying “I’ve got a 10:00 o’clock appointment with Ronald Furbuki and I don’t intend on being late, so I suppose this is goodbye for now.”

“Very well Richard I will see you at the rally then oh wait . . . I won’t.”

Richard’s face suddenly twisted in fear, leaving the bear to say “W-Wha do ya mean!? You’re whacking me off?! If this is about the laser cannons I’m sorry! I’ll cool it alright! Don’t go doing anything brash now!”

“Apologies old friend, but I realized something when you mentioned Natalia. You blamed my daughter for the rabbit getting by, which is partially true, but it’s you. Weak leaders like you are what create these gaps for rebels to slip through. With you eliminated, I can place more suitable governor to maintain kingdom stability. Look at Greenlake, why do you think Natalia fled? Once Tyrenius came to power, well there was nothing the rabbit could do.”

“Please K don’t do this! I’ll get a grip on Ferren! I’ll tighten down on patrols, I’ll make public examples, Hell I’ll even come out of pocket for the damages! Just please don’t do this to me!”

_“You should be thanking me Richard, for you won’t live to endure the hardships coming . . .” _

Richard opened his mouth to plead some more, but chocked on his words as he heard the loud bangs and crashes come from his office door. The grizzly bear shot Kydon a evil glare before his line was disconnected. Kyoto Kydon sighed then said “Fushia Prepare Ferren for it’s new ruler and get me in touch with Kiza . . . A homecoming is in order . . .”

C WING: ABOVE INTERNATIONAL WATERS

Professor Waterblake prided herself on the things she had accomplished in life. The red kangaroo was unrivaled in the world, of science, matching even the greatest of history’s minds. But none of that mattered in this moment, right now she had to swallow her pride and appeal to a very angry rabbit.

“S-Shirlene! Heavens No! Put down the gun!”

“I’m sure you’d like me to do that now, wouldn’t you!?”

“Violence has never solved anything Yara! You killing me would be a waste of your time and effort! Please reconsider!”

“Why should I!? I trusted you Waterblake! You gave me your word!”

“I did what you asked of me!! I saved his life!!”

“Bullshit! You went behind my back and used Jeeve for your damn experiment! How could you be so heartless and cruel!?”

“What I did was an act of mercy! His alien form was so far gone, coupled with the fact that you were’nt back with the materials! I had to do something and project Revert was my only option!” Shirlene held the professor at gunpoint saying “You could’ve saved him! You had everything you needed right in your lab, but ypu lied to me to get me to do your dirty work! Did you know two kids DIED to get you those materials!? One blown to bits and the other hacked by Kira. They risked their lives to help a low down dog like you! I hope you’re proud of yourself!”

“I-I d-din’t know!! Shirlene I’m sorry! I really wanted to help! I kept him alive didn’t I?!”

“At what cost!? You made him some . . . Freak!?”

Shirlene sighed whilst dropping her weapon. The pilot moped on over to the kitchen table and sat down saying “Why though? Out of all the animals you could have turned him into . . . Why an arctic wolf? We’re you trying to be poetic? You wanted to make a statement?”

“Shirlene please understand me. Your friend was dying! We’re talking 15 heart beats a minute! He was a vegetable and I was running out of time! What would you do I my shoes!? Hope and pray you survived a suicide mission just to bring raw materials that would in themselves take hours upon hours to cure and use!? Or do something that would actually make a difference! I don’t care how you spin this Yara, but I saved his life!”

Shirlene angrily turned from her and gazed upon the sleeping hero. Gone, the chocolate brown skin, and instead replaced with pristine white fur. No more was his neatly kept Afro and in it’s place curly black locks. The pilot walked over and ran her paw through the green patch of fur on his belly and sighed “Sorry Doc . . . I just . .”

“No. Do not apologize to me Yara. I should have been more transparent from the start. When you turned to me from help I always knew that you had a small window of opportunity, take that coupled with no communication in Ferren, I just went with my scientific gut and performed the procedure. Everything just lined up so well for this outcome. With you gone, and his body already flooded with wolf D.N.A, it just made sense to continue on our path . . .”

“ No I get it, but I just felt cheated you know? More specifically those kids . . . They died to help me and I feel like their deaths weren’t justified.”

“I have never known the horrors of being on the battlefield, but I commend you for your dedication to this creature . . You really love him don’t you?”

“I do Doc . . . I get a indescribable feeling every time I’m around him . . . He’s like the kid I never had, and Id do anything for him.”

“I know you would Yara . . . Well today’s been needlessly stressful, so I’m going to re- Hold on I’m getting a call from doctor foxtrot . . . Yes hello doctor?

“Hello Professor!?”

“Yes I can hear you Foxtrot, would you spit it out!”

“Yes of course! U-Uh have you seen he news at all by any chance?”

“No I’ve been here in Shirlene’s company. Why what’s wrong?”

“Turn to A.N.N right now, and I’ll meet you at the rendezvous point. Foxtrot out.”

“Most peculiar . . . Yara?”

“What’s up Doc?”

“Would you mind turning on the news? Xavier seems spooked about something.” Shirlene wordlessly pressed a button on the nearby remote, turning on the monitor over the stove.

“Hello Alteria! I’m your host Ronald Furbuki and damn! Just when you think things in Alteria are slowing down . . . Today’s stories are just crazy so buckle up everyone. Starting things off for those who’ve been living under a rock, The Ferren Tower’s structural supports were destroyed yesterday, resulting in the fall of the tower. We have a confirmed 400 deaths, with the number climbing by the hour. This would mar the first major terrorist attack in Ferren and the first to hone in on a major artery of the world.

We’re looking at a devastating billions in damages, making this also the most expensive terrorist attack seen to date. We reached out to the Ferren administration for a response and what we got was not what we were expecting at all. President Richard Growland of Ferren was found dead in his office this morning, with several bullet holes in his head. Investigators haven’t exactly pinned down whether it was suicide or murder, but most are leaning to the latter of the two.

A representative from the Kydon administration gave the public this response ‘We are deeply shocked and hurt by the vile attacks on Ferren and we will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice! His honorable Kyoto Kydon has sent one of his governors to take temporary control of Ferren until a new leader can be instated. And in a surprising move the Governor has already sent a raid and strike team to the Ferren W.I and A.Q labs . . . “

_ _“NOO!!!” Waterblake covered her mouth in shock and began sobbing as the news reel continued.

“Several high ranking officials and scientists were arrested including Doctor Vanguard, a very prominent biologist. Though apparently this isn’t everyone, A list of missing scientists have went out and the more recognizable names include Nobel prize winner Professor Waterblake and her assistant Dr. Foxtrot. If you have any information about these names, please call your local law enforcement . . . In other news A-”

Shirlene grumbled angrily and shut the broadcast off saying “Eh forget about it huh? Stick with me and I’ll keep you safe, I’ll have to make some room for Lila too . . . Oh shit! Where’s Lila!?”

“You mean the fox child? She left in the middle of the night, I was sleeping in here when I saw her open the hangar door and jump.”

“You mean she jumped thousand of feet into the ocean!? Impossible!”

“I saw it with my own eyes . . . Perhaps she was feeling guilty about something?”

“Probably . . . That’s three kids that died under my care . . . God what’s wrong with me!?”

“Nothing is wrong with you Yara. You’re a fine caretaker and a fierce protector, you should be proud of what you’ve accomplished . . . I’m sorry Shirlene, but I can stay no longer.”

“You know you don’t have to leave right? You can hang with us?”

“Thanks you for the invite, but this is a road I must travel alone . . . With my assistant of course. We’ll be fine Yara . . . Though we will keep in touch, I take it you’re secure line hasn’t changed.”

“You know it. Take care Doc.”

“I will Yara and take care of Jeeve for me. He’s now the culmination of years of research and billions in taxpayer dollars.” Shirlene smirked and waved as Professor Waterblake_ _left towards the drop bay to her docked ship. Now alone, Shirlene pulled up a chair and sat next to the comatose wolf.

“Heya kiddo. How ya been? Good I hope.”

“F-Fine . . h-how b-bout’ y-you?”

“Kid?!”

“Hi Shirlene . . . Missed me?” The rabbit pilot leapt upon Jeeve and wrapped her paws around his furry waist crying “OH MY GOD! I MISSED YOU! I THOUGHT YOU DIED!”

“It’s alright Shirl. I’m alright. Everything’s alright, pleases stop crying . . .”

“God kid . . . You nearly gave me a heart attack!! I toppled a damn building for you!”

“Yea I heard . . . Pretty crazy stuff.”

“Wait!? How’d you hear about that!!”

“Aside from you telling me, I’ve been able to hear everything for days now. It was scary at first, not being able to see or talk, but it’s been a learning experience.” Shirlene smiled weakly then rubbed her forearm bashfully saying

“Uh listen kid, I’m guessing you already know, but you’ve gone through some . . . Changes”

“I know Shirl, Professor Waterblake turned me into a wolf. I heard you two arguing about it, but now looking at myself . . . I still can’t believe it . .”

“Neither can I. You gonna be alright kid?” Jeeve ignored her and continued preening through his fur and poking at his canine features. “It’s so surreal . . I just can’t believe this wolf is me . .”

“You hungry kid? You’ve lost a lot of weight! You’re as small as a pup!”

“No I’m fine, wait pup!? Where’s Clover?!”

“You’re little girl’s in the kitchen, poor girl. She’s been devastated without you around. I know she’ll be glad to see you up and about.”

“Will she . . . Recognize me?”

“Are you kidding? Just go talk to your kid!” Jeeve smiled then shot out of bed, making a mad dash for the kitchen. The arctic wolf barreled in and smiled brightly when he saw the smoke colored pup looking up at him.

“ . . . Hey girl . . How you been?” Clover wagged her tail happily and yipped in response.

“Yes I figured as much . . Aww come here fluff!” Jeeve bent down with arms outstretched and laughed as Clover leapt in his arms, licking his furry face. Shirlene casually waltzed in saying “That’s very cute kid . . . Nice to see everyone all hugged up again.”

“Yea . . . Hey Shirl? Can you take me somewhere?”

“You wanna leave now? You only just woke up kid! Give it some time before you go off prancing about!”

“This is serious! I need to go to Gerosia, that’s where Nigel is.”

“Wait what?! I’m sorry, I’ve been a little frazzled recently, but correct me if I’m wrong . . You want me to fly you off to some trash island so you can find who?”

“Nigel Gaiden! The last patriarch! I saw him in the Dreamscape!”

“Kid . . I’m a simple rabbit. I have no idea about all of this mystic mubo sword jumbo! Wait hold up . . Who’s Nigel again!?”

“Ugh! Shirlene I’ve told you already! He’s the last patriarch! He fought in the war between Kyoto and the original patriarchs! He’s like a legend and I need to find him so he can help me!”

“Tsk tsk tsk. And here I thought we were gonna slow our roll and cool it for the rest of our lives. But when danger calls . . . COMPUTER!”

“YES CAPTAIN?”

“Set course for trash island.”

“ALREADY SET CAPTAIN. ESTIAMTED ARRIVAL TIME IS . . 5 MINUTES.”

“Thank you Shirlene.”

“Ah don’t sweat it. You’re a . . Good deed doer! It’s practically in your DNA.” The two sat across from each other and continued on with light conversation. Shirlene did her best to catch Jeeve up on what he missed when he was unconscious.

“And there I was lying, bloodied and bruised, with your evil crush. Kira raises her spear to gut me and then Don fires at her. Rounds flew past her at break neck speed, giving me just a slither of an opportunity to strike . . but I was too late.”

“Wow . . I didn’t know! I can’t believe they risked their lives for me . . .”

“Neither can I kid . . They were heroes and don’t you forget it! Hold up a sec. Computer! We taking a trip around the world or what?”

“WE HAVE ARRIVED CAPTAIN. PREPARING TO LAND, PLEASE SECURE YOURSELVES.”

The C wing hovered forcefully over the sandy coast, blowing exhaust over the tide beaten beach. The ship gently landed and opened it’s bay doors, revealing a hooded figure already waiting for them. Jeeve watched intently as the figure shook it’s head disapprovingly then turned aloof.

Shirlene scoffed as the figure walked away saying “What’s the matter with him? Forget how to be hospitable?” Jeeve ignored her and instead ran after the figure yelling “NIGEL! WAIT UP!!”

The figure stopped in its tracks and turned around while dropping it’s hood.

“Used to be . . .”

Jeeve awkwardly rubbed his arm and asked “Wha?”

“Nigel . . . I used to be him.”

“What happened?” The fox looked at Jeeve sullenly replying

“Why do you care huh? As a matter of fact, why are you even here Javari?”

“Y-You know me!?”

“Yea I know you, I brought you here after all.” Jeeve opened his mouth to respond, but Nigel continued walking away, clearly not interested in what the wolf had to say.

“Wait! Hold up a second! I have so many questions!”

“Oh really? Well I’m not the one to ask.” Jeeve looked back to Shirlene for help, but the pilot shrugged her shoulders saying “Don’t look at me kid! I don’t know what to do!” Jeeve grunted in frustration then took after Nigel, calling his name all the way.

The hero followed Nigel through the dense forest yelling “What’s going on!? Why are you avoiding me!?”

“Because you remind me . . .”

“Remind you of what?!” Nigel stopped walking and replied

“Remind me of him.”

“My grandfather?”

“The one and only . . . Hey kiddo come inside for a spell, we got things to talk about.” Jeeve wordlessly followed the fox inside his dirt hut, hoping he’d get the answers he’d been looking for.

The hut’s interior was small, damp, and devoid of all technology. This was definitively the place a long lost fugitive would hide out in.

“So . . . fur.”

“Oh yea . . . Kind of a long story, but enough about me! I have so many questions!”

“So I’ve heard . . Well I’ll humor you, go on and ask, but do it quick. I’m leaving real soon.”

“you’re leaving?! Where are you going?”

“I’m heading off to Earth. Alteria’s doomed and I refuse to be here when it comes.”

“Wait slow down! What’s coming!?”

“The end of the world Javari. I know you’ve only been here for a couple of weeks, but surely you’ve seen the glaring signs!”

“No I haven’t, but you can’t be serious about leaving! You’re just gonna abandon this world!”

“Of course I am, I should’ve left a long time ago.”

“Tyloc was right . . You did change!”

“Aw shut up! You don’t know me! You don’t know anything! Kydon is gonna purge this world, just like he did before, only this time we’ll all suffer . . .”

“So why don’t we rise up and fight him!”

“Are you that dense!? Kyoto is untouchable, he’ll tear you to shreds!”

“Well I’d rather go out fighting than running like a coward.”

“You’re so foolish it hurts . . . Well I can’t say I tried.”

“You brought me into this world to save it right?! So why would you just turn around and abandon it!?”

Nigel laughed incredulously and replied “I didn’t bring you here because I believed in you! I brought you here because Tyloc asked me to. He wanted to meet the last patriarch before he kicked the bucket.”

“Y-You’re l-lying!”

“Believe what you want, but we’ve done this so many times before.”

“I-I don’t understand!”

“You think you’re the first human here? You’re like the 12th this year! Everytime I bring someone, they all end up the same . . .”

“And how’s that?”

“Better I not soil your virgin ears . . . Look kid, you’re your grandfather’s spawn and I know there’s nothing I can do to keep you from pursuing Kydon, So I’m gonna give you a piece of advice.”

“What advice?”

“Kydon’s got a device called the Sirius. It’s a weapon that wiped out the patriarchs. If you can get control of it, then it’s game over for him.”

“Really!? To do that I’d need to get inside his castle or something!”

“Well as fate would have it the Kingdom Rally is coming up. The competition will be held in the Kydon Kingdom, so it’ll get you closer to the castle.”

“That’s an excellent plan! Though by the sounds of it . . It would seem like you had been planning that for awhile?”

“I’ve always thought about getting my hands on Sirius. You should’ve seen what it did way back when . . . Your grandpa really tried.”

“Everyone talks about what a great warrior he was and how he was so cool, but no one ever tells me about him! What did he do that was so great!?”

“He saved the world, and that’s all you need to know.” Nigel stood to his feet and grabbed a burlap sack saying “My ride is here kid though you’re more than welcome to tag along.”

Jeeve angrily stood to his feet and turned his back towards Nigel yelling “That’s it?! I almost die several times to come and meet you and that’s all you tell me!? You’re not a patriarch! You’re a coward and a fool!” Jeeve

“WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!? To just drop what I’m doing and

Fight Kyoto!? The patriarchs couldn’t beat him when there were millions of us! And now you expect me to stop an overlord who’s only begun to utilize his strength?”

“No. I expect us to stop him! I know we can do this! With your guidance and my abilities, we can restore the order of the patriarchs!” Nigel flashed a frightened look and took tentative steps back saying

“You don’t know anything kid. Just stay out of Kydon’s way and you may live to see what comes next . . .”
