A narrative poem examining the discourse that surrounds death and dying.

Skytrain

A medical

Emergency

Political

Insurgency

The station's closed

The train is stopped

Question unposed

The mess unmopped

"Hey what's that mom

Why'd he go splat"

She kept her calm

And that was that

Explanation

Not unneeded

Exhortation

So unheeded

Please stay behind

The yellow line

Please do be kind

And say you're fine

Your politic

Of alibi

Makes me skeptic

That people die

It goes unheard

As suicide

A dirty word

With shame implied

A pale white sheet

Blocks it from sight

And with tone sharp

Say it's alright

He's innocent

He's just a kid

His childhood spent

From death you hid

You hid his feel

You hid his eyes

From what was real

Your helpful lies

Spot's on the farm

He went away

Have no alarm

You'll see one day

"A better place"

You said with glee

"A soft embrace

But not for me"

One busy night

He's feeling blue

No will to fight

And what to do

He's feeling down

It's been three years

Shut down the town

There'll be no tears

No seeping scar

No always numb

No future far

When Spot will come

No need to weep

No sourceless pain

Just one short leap

And delayed train.
