A series of tankas on TW: domestic abuse.

Why I Went Back

Ask why I went back

Frown while prodding fresh bruises

Doubt my drunk doorknob

Judgement gavels land heavy

Crushing not the abuser

Count how many steps

Call into question my tale

Push me to answer

Testimony only counts

When concussed and still bleeding

Raise a keen eyebrow

Sharpen it like cutlery

Press it to my palm

Sympathy dies with each call

Shredded by inconvenience

Blame my attitude

Tell me not to provoke rage

Wince when I explode

A silenced muzzle brings peace

Ending domestic disputes

Say it's such a shame

Clean up my mess one last time

Ask why I went back

Go wheel away the body

Ignoring my children's eyes.
