The polished woodboards beneath Oscar's feet felt slightly slippery, and creaked everytime he applied pressure to it. He practically tiptoed thorough the hall, until he approached a huge door with little rungs on it. Oscar knocked on it, not too hard, not too soft, and waited patiently. After a minute, Oscar doubted anyone was there, but once he was about to leave, it opened, with a gush of air with it, chilling him a little. A rather tall bearded human at least twice the size of Oscar, looked curiously down at him.
"Well hello. What's your name little one?" The wise-looking man said in a gently, hushed tone.
"I'm Oscar, and I don't want to be called little for your information" Oscar replied rather rudely, but the human let him in anyway.
He closed the door behind him, the door making a thumping sound once enclosing the two in the room. There are two black leather seats, with a wide, polished oak desk separating them, stacked with all sorts of office material on it. The man indicates for the furry to sit on it, as the human goes to sit on his larger chair himself. Once they get comfortable, the man goes for an expected question straight away.
"Can I ask another question? What are you, exactly?"
Oscar looks at one of the wooden walls that have a few different paintings on them, before turning to the man.
"I really don't know, but I'm not normal, and certainly not liked by most" Oscar sighs at end of the sentence, and runs his paw through his head fur.
"I'm sorry to hear that," The bearded man smiles at him, but it fades when Oscar is staring at the desk.
"I didn't come for your pity... what I was really asking for was some history on Druffledown... I think I might get a few answers by knowing some things about it."
Oscar straightens up, and patiently waits as the man gets off his grand chair slowly, before getting a seemingly random red book from the thousands of books behind him. He sits back down, making sure he's as comfortable as possible.
"What answers are you looking for?" The man seems serious now, as Oscar has made quite the impression.
"Like maybe why people don't like me?" Oscar starts off, running what he wants through his head.
"Hmmm... I'll read through the book," He responds, interested by Oscar's idea.
"You might want to come back here... Maybe tomorrow, I'll check through the book and see what I can do for you."
The bearded male gives another smile to the Fennec Fox, and this time Oscar smiles back.
"Thank you," He says sweetly, before opening the doors himself and eventually exiting, closing the doors silently behind him.
During Oscar's walk back, he spotted Ark seated on a long, wooden bench with a small gadget. He wandered over and sat next to her, intent to know what she was playing.
"Hi there," Ark greeted him.
"What are you playing?" Oscar questioned, intrigued.
"It's nothing really, just something to pass time," She looks at him, and passes the device over. Oscar grabs it with greedy paws and taps the screen. The game is almost an exact replica of Piano Tiles, except with more graphics (such as neon or flashing). While frustrating, Oscar still had fun, and after a minute or two, returned the gadget to Ark. Oscar got up to go, and continued walking back, waving goodbye to Ark, who was too absorbed into the game to notice.
By the time Oscar returned to Druffledown, the sky was light blue, with little to no clouds in sight. Oscar guessed that it was around lunchtime, so he went off to get a bite to eat. As usual, going through town was hard, but he did it anyway, ready to endure whatever people said about him. Once Oscar reached the centre of town, he'd already been called a few names to his disappointment. The snow beneath his paws had already melted away slightly, as Oscar sat down on a wooden bench near the fountain. He fumbled with his paws for a moment, then realising he had no money with him. Oscar glanced around to see anyone he knew, but was failed. He wasn't that hungry anyway. He picked himself up from the seat, confused on where to go now.
A short while later, Oscar was drawing patterns with a stick in the same cave in laziness, marking the walls permanently. He guessed it didn't matter, as no-one visited this naked cave anyway. This was basically Oscar's dwelling now, for him to do whatever he likes, whenever he likes. As Oscar finished up marking the cave walls, he stood back, fascinated by what he created. It wasn't much, just a picture of a reindeer's head, but either way it was beautiful, with random yet creative patterns streaking through it. Oscar placed the stick flat against the smooth rock wall, not sure what to do now. Making up his mind, Oscar covers himself in bedding remnants left in the den, and attempts to fall asleep.
When Oscar wakes up from his restless sleep, the sky is a mysterious pink and orange, a rather spectacular display portrayed in the sky. Oscar rubs his eyes slowly, and gets up, neatening up the bedding, even though it really doesn't matter. 'Good etiquette' Oscar thinks satisfyingly to himself. Before leaving the rural stone place, Oscar stares at the reindeer head he created, smiling to himself, quite proud despite of the quick job. Finally, Oscar turns around and heads out.
