He was nowhere in sight, leaving his entire group behind as they all slept. I wanted to see what he was up to, to see what he plans to do for the future. As i left the campsite in search of our leader, i saw vast amounts of light off in the distance. It could have been Vincent but they spreaded far too wide to be an single person. With nothing else to go on, i made my way to the source. Eventually showing up to steep cliff, overlooking a large Valley. Vincent was sitting at the edge, starting down. When I took a step forward, two large hands grip both of my shoulders hard. I slowly twisted my head to see that it was grizzly who grabbed me. He didn't say a word when he forcibly pushed me onward, bringing me closer to our leader.

“Sorry about that Dex but you won't be able to come close to me without getting through them first.” Vincent calmly said, taking a sip from his water bottle. When I was close enough to him, grizzly’s loosened his iron grip and walked back, disappearing out of sight behind the trees. “We're lucky that we found those supplies but it won't be long before we run out.” He said, pointing down the cliff. I looked to see where he was gesturing towards and was shocked to what I saw. It wasn't a small run down village that i was taught in school but a decently built town with structures strikingly similar to our own. If wasn't for the destruction of all our citadels then i would have mistaken it as one our own settlements. “crazy right? We were so caught up on our continued development that the beastmen were developing alongside us.”

I never seen anything like it, houses instead of huts. Apartments rather than campfires, it was all mind boggling to me. Either our government knew about this and refused to acknowledge what was happening around the citadels and hide it from the public or was completely unaware altogether. In the end, the human race was defeated by failing to understand the beastmen. “The times had changed. Once we run out of food and meds, we'll pay this little town a visit.” Vincent sounded impatient when he said that. He wanted to infiltrate a town full of walking, talking animals who were faster and far stronger than us, not to mention that we human kids that barely survive an unwinnable war. “You can't be serious? We don't know what's down there and you purpose that we just walkz in and say hi? They'll kill or capture us on the spot.”

“Always so damn paranoid, bet you were fun at parties. I knew there was something special about you Dex. Just trust me on this one.” I wanted to protest more but he already made up his mind. He was gonna drag everyone into unnecessary trouble but for some odd reason, i trusted him. He soon got up to removed his hood from off his head and turned around to face me, grinning. I'm not saying that was attracted to other guys or anything like that but he was handsome! He could have all of the girls in school and maybe even the teachers if he wanted to. His eyes though, was what caught my attention the most.

He stared at me with golden eyes as pure as the very sun that seem to dimly glow. I couldn't break my gaze away from him. The tattoos that were plaster on his face were strange, having the same design I seen on his hand when i first saw them. Two thin lines fell from both his eyes and ran down towards his body with a small recognizable symbol placed on his forehead. “W-w-who are you?” I asked, shocked from his appearance. Vincent softly laughed at me for while before answering

“I can't answer that at the moment. However, I do have a question for you. Do you want everything back to normal? Back to when things were calm and peaceful? Where you can wake up back in your old bed as if nothing ever happened?” I was confused. Why asked such a stupid question? Of course i wanted things back to normal, everything that happened felt more like a nightmare than reality. I miss my mom and dad, I miss my friends, I miss my old life. “Things can still be that way Dex but you have to show me how far you're willing to go to achieve such a dream.” I wanted to scream at him for making such delusions, to tell him that things can never go back to what they used to be. Humanity was dead and we may be the only ones left and yet, I couldn't say a word but nod.

“When the time comes, I shall test your resolve and see if you truly desire that dream and do it with a smile as wide as mine.” Vincent said as he turned back around to looked down the valley once again. “Go back to the camp and get some rest, it's not healthy staying up this late.”

Months had passed and as he predicted, our supplies ran out. I was a little worried at first but everyone else were surprisingly the opposite. “The season is nice and warm now lady and gents. Time has to see what these beastmen have in store for us! A new chapter of adventure, action and drama awaits us all.” Vincent roared over the crowd as they all cheered, full of energy.

The descent down the cliff was insane, a couple of us almost lost our lives in the trip. I could see the fear in their eyes the second they lost their footing and be saved at the last second by someone else grabbing on to them. I couldn't help but scowl at them for not being more careful which somehow made everyone burst out laughing, with the kid answering me with a: “yes mom.” eventually, we all made it down to ground level and explored the surrounding area.

“I smell two sinky foxes nearby big bro.” Mira chipped as she was set down by hunter who was carrying her on his shoulders the whole time. Vincent signature smile returned as he started to stretch his legs. “that was easy, time to hunt boys! Grizzly, you help set our new camp. Mira, point us in their direction and we'll be off.” The young girl took in a few more sniffs and pointed her finger deep within the forest. “At least one hundred meters that way, the smell is getting stinkier so i think they are getting closer.”

“Dex, you and hunter are with me. The rest of you stay close until I'll give the signal.”
