08 - A Brief Rest
Vil learns a little more about the world from Simmini while they enjoy some rest together.
The first draft of the complete story is done at 15000 words and I'll post it later tonight on Patreon where I'll work on the first major edit.
It'll probably be complete by the time I post the last chapter here and update all previous chapters.
Vil woke up from an itch on his nose and grumbled softly as he scratched it. He felt too comfortable wherever he was to open his eyes and start the day. His nose itched again and he rubbed it firmly. At the third itch and a muffled giggle he knew something was going on and he remembered where he was. He opened his eyes and looked up into Simmini's mischievously cheerful face.
She quickly withdrew her paw. 'Good Morning Vil.' she said and looked away innocently.
'Good morning to you too, Simmini.' he said and couldn't help feeling amused at her playful side.
She stood up and he nearly lost it at the sight of her bare fur body again. 'I'll go make us another meal.' she said and tread lightly away to the stairs. 'Looks like you're feeling healthier again.'
He wondered why she said that until he sat up and realised his morning condition and how little the sheet covering his hips and thighs hid it. He groaned and fell back into his pillow. 'First morning as a woman's guest and already making a great impression.'
As he came downstairs he was glad she wore a loose fitting black outfit of a tunic and pants. She smiled at him, served him a similar meal as the night before and he noticed the occasional glance at him while she ate. “I'll bet she'll have a ton of fun when she'll talk with other women.” he thought.
A knock on the door diverted his attention and Simmini called out 'Come in, Martan.'.
The large feline stepped inside and Vil noticed his quick examination of the room and of Simmini with his eyes. “Worried that something might have happened between us last night?” he thought and it amused him a little.
'I asked Baru to go up the pole today and keep an eye out on the horizon.' Martan said.
Simmini nodded. 'You think it might happen today?'
He shrugged. 'We'll be ready anyway then.'
'Pole?' Vil asked.
Simmini turned to him. 'We have a pole standing at the highest point of the village and it's taller than all the trees around here. There's a small covered platform at the top and he can watch a great distance from it. If and when a large Ant force comes he'll spot it soon.'
Vil nodded. 'The Ants don't shoot at the pole?'
'Maybe it doesn't seem to be a threat to them.' said Martan and Vil hummed in thought. 'Anyway, just wanted to let you know. I'll ask for your help when things happen so keep resting for now.' Simmini walked him to the door and he leaned closer to her. 'You're still sure he's on our side? No sign anything might be wrong about him?'
She smiled reassuringly. 'There's nothing wrong about him, don't worry.' she said and he left. She closed the door after Martan and smiled softly at the pondering human. “In fact, I think he's fine.” she thought and her mind wandered on the memories in the bath and this morning while her heartbeat quickened. “Very fine indeed.”
He looked at her. 'Can you tell me more about this world while we're not doing anything right now?'
'Sure.' she said and took a seat. 'Where shall I start?'

Simmini told Vil about the world in general and pulled out an atlas and photo books for illustration. He realised he'd have to learn a new alphabet and numerical system to be able to read again and planned to ask her to teach him later.
They sat down on the carpet surrounded by open books and Vil learned this world had a low population of evolved species but something changed and the Ants multiplied faster and expanded their territory at the cost of others. They fought back but by then it was too late and there were more Ants born than dying.
She showed photos of various territories around the world inhabited by species Vil thought were similar to predator species from Earth. He wondered if this planet had known dinosaurs in the distant past and how it came to pass that predators evolved instead of apes. His train of thought was interrupted by Simmini leaning forward on her paws and knees to reach for a book and nearly holding her behind in front of his face while her tail stuck up. The fabric of her pants pulled tight against her round forms and he was reminded again of her feminine curves and how alluring they actually were. His mind swayed towards inappropriate thoughts and he decided he'd need some fresh air to cool down. 'I think I need to stretch my legs.' he said and rubbed his thighs.
Simmini looked back. 'Shall we take a walk then?'
'Sure.' he said and hoped he hadn't glanced at her behind while she looked at him.

Simmini gave Vil a tour around the village and had shown most of it when a feline called out to them. 'They're coming!'
Simmini pricked up her ears at the two men Vil recognised as the ones who directed their weapons at him the night before. They were hurrying towards them. 'The Ants?' she asked.
They panted when they stepped up close. 'Yes. A whole line of trucks are coming this way.' said the taller of the two grey with black furred felines. 'They're going to overrun us. Martan asks everyone to arm themselves and get ready for the final fight.'
Simmini looked at Vil and he recognised the look of determination and fear in her eyes. He had seen it in the eyes of his comrades in arms at that last confrontation in space. 'Can you think of something?' she asked.
'I'm not sure. Do you have a detailed map of the village?'
'Martan has.'
'Then let's go see him.'
The shorter of the felines stared at Vil during the walk towards Martan's house. 'Can you really fly between the stars? You don't even have wings.'
'Seam.' said the other with a frown.
Leam looked at him. 'What? You said you couldn't believe that either, Baru.'
'That's not the point right now.'
Vil chuckled. 'I can understand your doubt. If I told this to someone in our past he'd say I was crazy. But we flew out there in space, although not as far as between stars, and not by ourselves. We used big steel ships to travel between the planets in the solar system.'
Leam raised an eyebrow. 'Ships? With tall masts and large sails or big engines?'
Vil hummed in thought. 'Neither of those. I think you don't have the rocket technology here so it's hard to explain.'
Leam nodded. 'You'll have to tell me later then.'
Baru sighed. 'He might not have the time to tell you.'
'If I do, I'll tell you all about our history from the first object shot around the planet and the first step by man on the moon.' Vil said.
Leam's eyes went wide. 'The moon? I have got to hear this.'
They arrived at Martan's house where he was busy with the few men and women who'd take command of the teams that would form a defensive ring around the village when Simmini and Vil arrived. He looked at them and Vil thought he had aged a lot since the morning. 'Your escape has only given you one day longer to live, I'm afraid. They'll surround us with so many soldiers there will be no escape this time.'
'Maybe not.' Vil said and stepped up to the map on the table next to Martan. 'I've been thinking about the possibility to get everyone out of here and now that I've seen most of the village I think we can. How much fuel and anything else that burns do we have available?'
