“Good evening Dex, how are you holding up?"
I'm doing fine I suppose. I was able to surf the web again thanks to the doctor lending me her laptop. For some odd reason, I thought the internet would be different from what I was use to but it looked like nothing much had changed. However, I have this unhealthy curiosity to venture to the pornographic websites and see you beastmen made for entertainment. Alas, the doctor made thought of ahead of time to activate parental controls so i wouldn't flood her browser history. Other than that, i'm learning quite a bit from outside world.
“That's great news dex but we should continue."
Very well. Everyone wasn't exactly themselves after Mira perished. Vincent in particular, change the most. The marks that covered his face were completely different from what I could tell. The symbol on his forehead especially, was seemingly larger and more detailed than ever before. All we did for the pass couple of days was repeat the same routine as before, traveling when it's dark and resting during the day. Until one day, Vincent wanted to do something new and also questionable.
“Lets have some fun! I'm tired of this depressed bullshit. He said, voice full of excitement as he got up and ran off in the darkness, while everyone else followed him, without saying a word. I was the last to leave as I needed to put out the fire and collect my things. When I caught up with them, we were standing in the middle of a empty road that stretched for miles on both ends. “Your majesty, what is it that we are doing?" one of the boys asked.
“We're going for a joy ride but we need something to drive first. That's where they come in." He answered back, gesturing for everyone to settle down. Vincent planned on getting a vehicle for to drive which I didn't exactly mind. To be honest, constantly walking from point A to point B was becoming a pain in the ass so this was a nice change of pace. “Heads up, there's our ride!" Vincent called out as he leaped into a ditch nearby. Sure enough, two headlights appeared after waiting a few minutes. I drew the short straw and had the job of playing bait while everyone else hid from view. I stood my ground while the vehicle closed in on me, eventually seeing that it was a large pick up truck speeding through. They quickly hit the breaks as soon as they saw me, barely stopping just a few feet from me.
Four beastmen occupied the vehicle, three of which were females of an unknown feline breed while the last one was an male canine. They looked confused at the sight of me, I guess seeing a human this close was a first for them. Vincent was quick to react at the opportunity and took action in a instant, swiftly moving in on the unsuspecting animals. I saw the beastmen talking to one another inside in their respective language, likely wondering why I was standing in the middle of the road in the dead of night. Regardless, the driver didn't expect a hand to punch through her side of the Window and swing open the door. She screamed in horror at the sight of Vincent's delighted face.
“Nice ride, mind if we take it?" He asked with a wicked grin plastered onto his face. The female yelp when he yanked her out of the truck effortlessly while the remaining three went through the same process by the rest of our crew. I ran in to help hold down the mutt while Vincent searched his pockets. “Um, sir? I'm not sure but I think that this cat lady is either really fat or pregnant ."One of the boys called out to him, I looked up to see that one of the occupants were indeed pregnant. Vincent started to laugh as slowly switched his attention back at the mutt. “It just a wild guess but I bet you were one who knocked her up right pup? I wonder what it will look like once it's born. Heck, why wait when i can see right now?" he said as he flicked out a small knife.
The beastman growled at him while struggling to break free from our grip. “So you did knock her up then! Lets see what it looks like shall we?" Vincent signaled for grizzly to come over help hold the dog down while he walked over to the female. She began to sob at the approaching boy, staring directly at the knife. The mutt was going mad from that point, I almost lost my hold on him from the frantic movements. “Your Majesty, you think this is a bit too much?"
He stopped dead in his tracks to lock eyes with mine. I felt my very soul shatter the moment I asked that stupid question. “I'm only joking Dex. I wasn't gonna do anything." Vincent chuckled softly while placing his weapon back in his pocket, deciding not to follow through. After restraining all four beastmen, we piled inside the truck with the medic taking the driver's seat.
“what are you waiting for? Drive forth!" Vincent barked at the medic while opening the glove compartment to see what was inside. He rolled his eyes at our leader, pulled the gear shift down to drive and gently pressed down on the pedal. The trucks engine roared to life, jolting us forward. “I was pro racer back in the day so this is cake walk." The medic said with a cocky look on his face.
“That's a load of bullshit and you know it!" Grizzly spat out while holding on to the safety handle for dear life. “I swear, if you kill us all then I promise that your ass will be kick your ass by yours truly." A faint chuckle could be heard from hunter as the two went at it with each other. I looked towards the truck's bed to see that the rest of the gang was either resting or talking amongst one another.
“We can't stay in this town any longer. No doubt the locals are already aware of us." Vincent stated.
“you should have killed them, that would've given us more time to escape." the medic butted in, gripping the steering wheel tightly. “It would only make our situation worse. The path to the throne doesn't always require bloodshed." Vincent responded.
Our little conversation was quickly cut short when red and blue lights appeared far behind us. “cheese and crackers, it's the cops! Dude, my mom is gonna kill me if she finds out that I went to jail." the medic blurred out as he took a sharp turn around a curve.
“Now is not the time for jokes comrade. Can you lose them?" Grizzly asked as he instinctively unholstered his pistol and rolled down his window. “I don't fucking know, i haven't been in a situation like this before!" The boy shot back. By now, everyone who was resting was now wide awake from that point and braced themselves for the ensuing chase.
Grizzly slide half his body out the window and began to open fire with his weapon but quickly retreated back inside as our pursuers retaliated with small arms fire. I could hear the boys shout in horror as bullets penetrated the trucks tailgate. “Shit, shit, shit! I can't shake em! What are you idiots doin-- ACK!" A large hole appeared the medic's chest followed by blood painting his side of the Windshield. He moaned as he desperately tried to stay awake while also remain in control of the truck but sadly failed with his head hitting the steering wheel. The truck jumped over a small ditch and into an open field.
“EVERYONE OUT NOW!." Vincent screamed as he leaped from the moving vehicle. Hunter and grizzly both kicked open their doors and jumped off in unison while I struggled to do the same. Before I knew it, the truck came to an violent stop as the front bumper slammed into a tree stump, If it wasn't for grizzly pulling me out at the last second, i would've been killed.
It took me a couple minutes to gather myself when the all too apparent sirens and howls of beastmen could be heard not far from our position. The truck was destroyed beyond repair with the medic's mangled corpse crushed between the back seats and dashboard with only his leg being visible to me. “Sir! Our only medic is dead along with two more of our guys. They must have broken their necks when they were sent flying." Hunter stated, his face showed no signs of remorse but his voice said a different story. “I Don't think the beast will let us go this time around. Dex toss me my tri-zip over there." Grizzly directed me to a large backpack that was resting near the tree stomp that ruined our day. It was heavy from get-go but i quickly realized why when i saw what was inside.
“Fully cleaned and dismantled RPK! Never thought I would need to use this bad boy in a time like." He boasted with glee.grizzly quickly reassembled his LMG with ease, finishing by firmly pulling back on the bolt. “Your majesty, I have an solution but it involves one of us staying behind."
“Grizzly, you better not do anything stupid at a time like this." Vincent growled.
“Don't worry, either I managed to kill them all with one magazine or keep them at bay so the rest of you can escape. It's win-win situation." grizzly reached in to his backpack to pull out a large metal helmet and proceeded to put on his head. “Are you insane? You won't survive with the apparent lack of armor!"
“As long as my head is protected, I'll be fine comrade. Once I open fire, all of you haul ass and don't you dare look back." Grizzly reassured us with a half smile. He was tough but it was clear that he was scared. His breathing was rapid while his arms trembled. “You saved my life and i am forever in your debt. It was never my intention to simply leave all of you behind like this. I'll be right behind you so get ready."
We gave grizzly a few seconds to ready himself before giving all of us nod, pulling down the helmet's faceplate and stepping out into the open with his weapon raised. Once the first shots erupted, all of ran like hell.
