The Simple Life, Chapter 2 : Afternoon With The Boys
#2 of The Simple Life
This is my second installment into the lives of Stella, Fenris and their adopted bundle of joy, Star. We get to see some more character development of all of them as a family dynamic, as well as oodles and oodles of more cute Star moments. :) Enjoy!

"Hey guys, I'm home!" I called out to my seemingly empty apartment, the weight of my tired and sore body leaned up against the blonde wood front door as I threw off one of my spike heeled work boots and massaged my instep. Walking around on hard wood and tiled floors my entire 9-5 shift at The Lodge in those things were killer on my feet, ankles and back, but there was money to be made and bills to be payed. And though I love my mate dearly, his salary as a night watch security guard could only pay bills and rent. My paycheck went towards groceries, the car payments, and things of that nature. And if achy feet and a sore back was what it took to keep my baby fed, then so be it. I kicked off my other shoe and tossed my keys into the bowl on the hutch by the door when a hushed reply floated in from the direction of the kitchen.
"You hear that Star? Mommy's home. Yeah, mommy's home. We're in here babe!" His voice went from parental and gentle to authoritative, which always made me remember just exactly how happy he could make me in an instant. Star's playful giggling beneath it all made me both happy my boys were enjoying themselves and horrified at what they might be doing.
"What're you two up to?" My question was punctuated by me turning the corner into the kitchen to see a heart warming sight. Fenris had his back to me, a pale grey henley stretched across the muscles in his shoulders and khaki cargo shorts slung low on his hips. Star, wearing an outfit that perfectly matched his daddy's, sat balanced on my mate's right hip, Fenris's tail curled underneath our little one's bottom to ensure his safety. When I entered the room, my baby's eyes lit up like Christmas lights and he reached towards me, leaning backwards and away from his fathers hold on him.
"Mama! Mama!!" As he called out to me, he made grabby hands, indicating he wanted me to hold him. Which, as usual, made my heart soar. One of my two reasons for living had missed me. At the feeling of his upset in balance, Fenris glanced over his shoulder at me, a smile lighting up his handsome face.
"Well hey there, pretty lady. How was work?" As he spoke he turned, switching Star to his other hip as he leaned back against the counter. The image was more than perfect.
"Oh you know, same old same old. What've you two been doing?" As I spoke, Star made an irritated face, his nose scrunched up, and demanded to be put down. Rolling his eyes, my mate complied and placed him on the floor. A giggle escaped my lips as my baby wobbled over to me, falling against my legs. As he hugged me, he looked up at us and flashed a bright smile.
"Mama home." The statement was so matter-of-fact and serious, both of us erupted in a fit of laughter. I picked up our little bundle of joy, and he responded by wrapping my neck in a tight bear hug.
"We were attempting to make dinner for when you got here." Fenris stated, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "I know how hard it is at work for you. I don't even want to think about how many of those sleazy guys hit on you. And the thought of them copping a feel?" He growled in his throat, teeth bared at the image. I just smiled and stood up on my toes to kiss him.
"Thank you. I love knowing my two favorite guys are bonding! What did you make?" I shifted Star in my arms.
"Fruit salad, with all the tropical stuff you like. Making the sauce was the difficult part." Shaking my head at his disgusted expression, I reached around the carnivore, swiped some of said sauce onto my finger and tested the taste. My eyes must've lit up, because his ears perked all excitedly.
"Do you like it? I hope you do. Its cream cheese and honey and-" I cut him off with another, longer, kiss.
"It's perfect love. Thank you so much for all this." His brow creased in confusion.
"All we did was make dinner..."
"No. You've done so much more than that." His face softened. Passing Star off to him again, I picked up the stack of plates already on the counter.
"I'll go set the table. Can you just bring the serving dishes out when you're ready?" He dismissed me with a flick of his hand and I covered my mouth to stifle a giggle. As I began setting out the plates, I smiled to myself. Yes, my feet and back were still aching and sore, and I still hated my job. But I had a mate and a child that were more than enough to make up for it.
I love afternoons with my boys.
