#12 of The Great Balancing

Kitt watched from the observation room on the command carrier as the Whiterunner turned and sped off into the hazy nebulae, a tear rolling down his cheek. He turned and placed his paws against the steel wall, growling softly, the metal being warped by serge of anger from his body. "Damn it!" Kitt shouted out at himself.

Kitt moved out onto the bridge stepping up to the admiral as he read over the latest war updates. "Sir, just to let you know, the Whiterunner will be out of commission for the next while." Kitt said immediately to the Otter as he looked up through his gold rimmed reading glasses.

The admiral nodded and sighed, removing his glasses and rubbed his muzzle bridge. "It didn't go well did it?"

"No sir, it didn't. The Whiterunner has already left the nebulae. I don't know where Alec is going..." Kitt explained softly standing at full attention trying to hold back all the emotions.

"I was hoping it wouldn't come to this. But very well, I'll list the Whiterunner as being on assignment. We can't stop for him at the moment; we've received the first of the new targets. Only question is can you handle it." The admiral said looking Kitt right in the eyes.

Kitt's eyes were for the first time in a long while filled with doubt and uncertainty hidden behind them but he still tried to keep a proud cold look regardless. "Let's just end this, sir..."

The Whiterunner passed through an asteroid belt, hovering over one of the larger rocks.

"Alec what the fuck is going on here?!" Drek growled from the weapons station.

"Look, we, I just had to get out of there okay!" Alec burst.

"Not good enough any more, Kitt looked as if he was going to kill you or something. We need to know what's going on right now!"

Alec sighed and glanced at Drek coldly. "Alright, as of now, Drek you are in command of the Whiterunner. We will go to Lartenix station where I will be dropped off, and you can do whatever the fuck you want to do."

Drek obviously taken aback by that didn't even know what to say. "As you wish sir...."

Alec leaned against the second level railing looking out on the stations promenade watching the multitude of furs mill around about their business, he didn't know what to do everything was falling apart. "Fuck..." he muttered into his chest adjusting the high cut collar of his cotton short coat and began wandering around the station, Alec finally decided to get himself a hotel room. Sitting on the edge of the bed, with a large bottle of alcohol, drinking him into a nice stupor trying to for a moment forget about what he's done. The next morning he awoke to one hell of a hang over, seeing he the torn room, chairs tossed and the other furniture almost destroyed from his deep rage.

Rubbing his head he got dressed and went out again still walking about aimlessly. "I gotta make things better, how could I let things get so fucked up!" he spoke to himself.

In his blind path Alec bumped into someone, nearly knocking them both down. Alec looked up. "Oh...I'm so..." Alec muzzle dropped in shock his head recognizing the fur.

"Alec?!" the dark gray colored raccoon he nearly knocked over said. "Oh my gods, it's been forever!"

"Norris? Damn it's been a long time!" Alec said shaking the khaki pant and t-shirt wearing coon's paw

"No kidding hon, how have you been?!" the raccoon exclaimed loudly. "I've seen your face plastered all over the news, quite the hero."

"Enh it's war, business as usual." Alec responded quietly.

"No kidding, I've had a few contracts from the alliance, wet work stuff you know."

"Still in the field then huh Norris." Alec smiled a bit.

"I do what I'm good at. Wanna hit a pub and catch up?" Norris asked.

"Sure! I got nothing else to do."

Sitting in a dimly lit bar booth, the wolf and raccoon sat over several pints of beer laughing as they talked about the old days yet still they're experienced eyes always watching the exits, Alec nearly forgot about the problems that arose in the last few days.

"So, are you still with that fox, what was his name...Gareth?" Norris asked.

"Heh, no, we broke up years ago I'm kinda involved with a wolf, Kitt Alistair..." Alec slowly forced out.

"Him?! The wolf that nearly destroyed the Lupine Home world a few years back?" the raccoon muffled his amazement.

Alec slumped back in the booth. "Yeah that's him...."

The raccoon cleared his throat. "So I guess you aren't pulling job anymore then?"

"No, I'm out of the world for the moment, have been for about 4 years."

Norris shrugged and sipped his at his drink. "Too bad, I got a sweet job line up was going to ask if you wanted in. Simple hit."

"Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I'd be much use to you on it." Alec informed him.

"What?! you were the best, I've seen you dive into the middle of ten assault armed Doberman with only two handguns and come out smelling like a rose." the raccoon joked.

Alec chuckled and smirked. "Yeah, I don't have the flare for it anymore."

Norris sighed. "Too bad you were the best. Anyway, I gotta get running, here's my card." Norris slid a plastic call card onto the table "If you need me, gimme a shout." The raccoon slowly got up from the booth, throwing some money onto the table for the drinks and put on a set of dark sun glasses, heading out the door.

Alec picked up the card and fiddled with it in his paw, then paid for the rest of the bill, heading back to his hotel room. Sitting in front of the TV, Alec watched the latest on the war. Alec picked up his pocket phone and searched through the numbers and dialing the emergency line to Tarn, who quickly answered.

"Alec?! What happened? I just got the report from Admiral Forrestal."

"Kitt read that disc you gave him three years ago..." Alec said flatly and very angrily.

Tarn's muzzle dropped as his ears went back slightly. "Oh my god, Alec I'm sorry, I'd forgotten all about that...he didn't take it well I'd expect."

Alec's upper lip curled a bit. "What do you think?!"

"Alright...alright...what do you need?" Tarn asked.

"I need to just let him cool out for awhile, I also need to get back in the game. I can't just sit idly by." Alec growled almost like a command.

Tarn agreed slowly. "Okay Alec, stand by where you are, I'll see what I can do."

Alec paced the small cramped hotel room, occasionally stopping to stare out the window, peering down upon the promenade, the large domed structure of the space station showing the sun sinking down behind the planet. Sighing, Alec reached into his pocket and pulled out the calling card Norris had given him, flipping it between his fingers.

Out of nowhere there was a knock at the door. Alec cautiously padded over to it, looking through the eye hole, seeing two black dress suited cheetahs standing there, both of them wearing dark black sunglasses.

"Who is it?" Alec asked through the bolted door making sure to stay off to the side.

"Mr. Drominaz may we speak to you?" One of the cats requested.

Alec softly put his paw over the handle of the door while his other gripped his pistol, still not unlocking it "About what?"

"We represent someone who may be able to help you with your current situation. May we come in?"

Alec quite intrigued with these two, moved his pistol held behind his back as he unlocked the door and opened it. Eyeing the pair very closely "And what situation might that be?"

The taller of the two cheetahs stepped forward, removing his sunglasses, his eyes almost pure white except for an ice blue ring faintly showing through, the look was eerie. "Your inability to locate any of the bio-enhanced soldiers the Dominion has been throwing at you."

Alec looked him over as well as the one behind him and furrowed his brow. "I'm still not following, how do you know who I am, and why do you want to help?"

The cheetah smiled "Because it is in both our invested interests that these soldiers not become the dominant force in the galaxy."

Alec blinked and stood there like a statue trying to make sense of them "Series Beta right? You both have been augmented." he stammered out.

"Your file wasn't lying, you are perceptive. Yes, my associate and I have both under gone the Blazer Objective enhancements. But the Dominion military wasn't satisfied with what the Alliance had accomplished. They tried to terminate us obviously they have not succeeded. We come to you with valuable information about how far they have actually pushed the project." The cheetah explained

Alec dropped his arm holding his weapon and locked in the safety, ushering in the two felines.

"As you know, the Alliance even with there exceptional research and financial abilities never could convince the advisory board to let them do real testing on what the bio-enhancement equipment could do. But since the Dominion doesn't care about that, they went instantly to field trials quickly fixing mistakes you had made. You notice now with the battles between Kitt Alistair and the soldiers, they can now manipulate energy waves into physical and very destructive weapons...." Alec nodded as he sat on the edge of the bed listening intently as the tall cheetah explained all of this. "...With the beta models such as myself only gain considerable strength, speed, agility and mental processing abilities."

"How far have they pushed the technology?" Alec inquired.

"We do not know unfortunately but from the way they were monitoring Kitt Alistair each time he'd engaged one of the beta or gamma series, they must be attempting to simulate the type of power of an ascended being." He said as he handed over a rectangular clear data disc. "This is all the information we have collected on them."

Alec adjusted himself on the bed and cleared his throat, looking at the disc. "And what do you get out of this?"

"Simply the knowledge that we have aided in the destruction of the Dominion." the cheetah grinned slightly and placed the disc on the coffee table as they stood up then out of no where they both looking deathly into one another's eyes. "They're here..."

Alec looked around the room confused "Who?"

"It's them...it won't take long for them to find us." the cheetah said, as him and his associate made there way to the door opening it to a purely white furred tiger, from head to toes dressed in off grey white clothing and white leather trench coat.

The tall cheetah whipped a blue steel plated pistol seemingly out of know where at the tiger, only to have it smacked out of his paw. Growling loudly the cheetah pivoted on one foot flailing out his fist at the lead tiger's head; ducking without any effort the tiger responded upper cutting the cheetah across the jaw, sending him tumbling through the kitchen door.

Alec stared helplessly for a moment before gripping his pistol from the bed and blazing off several rounds at the assailant, none of them landing appearing to pass right through his body. Alec gasped then rolled over to his other pistol hoisting them up at the tiger, which grabbed Alec's wrists and lifted him at least a foot off the tacky plush carpet. The struggling wolf swung his leg out swiping it across the tiger's face causing him barely to flinch.

Holding Alec up by one paw, the tiger drew back his fist about to strike when the shorter cheetah slammed into the big cat's side, toppling them both through the plaster wall into the adjacent hotel room. Alec quickly got to his feet, having his arm grasped by the cheetah that was tossed into the kitchen. "Alec, you have to go now! Get that disc to the Alliance we'll hold him off as long as we can. Don't fight him, just RUN!"

Alec nodded and is released, grabbing his jacket and disc, bolting into the hallway, down the stairs and out onto the promenade, looking up at where his fifth story room was, then seeing the balcony window burst and out flying the black suited cheetah and white trench coat wearing tiger. They tumble the full distance, crashing into the steel flooring, the cheetah taking the brunt of the impact, the tiger landing onto of his chest, denting the strong metal in as if it were tin foil. A shower of glass fell around them as the tiger looked up from the unconscious or worse cheetah right at Alec. Alec simply turned and darted into the crowd of people who had amassed around the scene.

Pushing himself faster and faster Alec ran down the promenade, but in a loosing battle, the tiger kept on gaining on him. Alec stopped suddenly, swinging right around with his pistols, firing off desperately trying to hit the tiger but nothing landing. The tiger stepped right up to Alec, towering over him.

"What do you want from me!?" Alec snarled out.

"You to be exactly, there is no hope of escape, comply or die. Or even worse we'll kill you're mate, the ascended wolf." the tiger hissed.

Alec's first thought was to go down fighting but an idea popped into his mind. "As you wish..." he agreed.

"Colonel reports coming in from Hypros, system is secure with only a six percent causality rate." A slender fox red off from a data pad in his paw.

Kitt hmm'd distantly from his office chair, looking over his cluttered desk, papers and data pads littered all over the place. "Very good lieutenant thank you..."

The fox saluted Kitt and marched out of the room. A moment later the olive drab colored uniform worn by the otter admiral waltzed in. Kitt barely acknowledged his presence. "I assume that was the field report from Hypros?" The admiral inquired.

"Yeah it was Ben we seem to be doing well. We're nearing the core systems." Kitt said.

"Two or Three weeks at this rate anyway. Have you heard from Alec or the Whiterunner?" the admiral asked curiously.

Kitt looked up at the otter and sighed, rubbing his temples with his index fingers. "No I haven't...it's driving me crazy, two and a half weeks and no word."

The admiral sat down in the leather sofa along the wall of the office and nodded to Kitt. "Looks like you built your ship and crew too well, we can't even track them."

"I know..." Kitt growled at himself. "Was there something else you wanted Ben? I don't mean to be rude I was just a really good brooding mood." Kitt tried to lightly joke.

"Actually that's just it, you're brooding, we're going to be hitting the heavy shit soon and I need you clear and focused. Yes you two had a huge fight and yes you don't know where he is but just give it time, he will come around and then you can talk it through." Ben said. "And that's exactly why I want you to take a week and head back into Alliance space and get some rest. That'll give you enough time to sort things out."

Kitt slouched back into his chair and grumbled. "But I have too much to do here..."

"I'm sure we can handle this until we get to core systems. Now this isn't an option, Assault wing Len'on will be heading back to the capitol for refits and restaffing, I want you on it." Ben ordered.

Kitt sighed knowing he wasn't going to get around this "Aye Admiral."

Kitt sat in the large ancient forest on the Lupine Home world the trees must have been there for hundreds if not thousands of years, the powerful old energies coursing around the depressed wolf. Dwelling on his situation, he beat himself up over how he'd reacted. It's not like Kitt was a saint himself. Images flashed through his memory of all the people he'd killed but it wasn't the same, he'd only killed when it was necessary or was it...could there have been another way?

Kitt drove into the inner core of the second largest city on the home world, pulling up to a gated mansion, the surrounding area was a dump, in this city, poverty was rampant with several powerful rich packs scattered about. Kitt walked up to the tall steel bar gate and pressed the intercom button. Waiting for a moment someone to reply "Hello...?" a female aristocratic sounding voice spoke.

"Hello, I am looking for James or Aerica Drominaz." Kitt responded unsure if he should even be there.

"Aerica Drominaz speaking, what do you want?" she said cutting to the chase.

"My name is Kitt Alistair I wish to speak to you about your son Alec..." Kitt stood there only getting silence, after a minute the gate slowly creeks open.

Kitt padded up to the door, being met by a chestnut brown furred female wolf, an old proud stern looking lady in a green dress. Her look wasn't all that inviting as she glared at Kitt.

"Hello ma'am." Kitt said courteously, knowing she was quite high ranking on the pack ladder.

"Greetings Hun-gar Alistair, how may I help you?" she said.

"I came with questions about Alec, may I speak?" Kitt said

"What about him, I haven't seen him in years. I'd have thought you of all people would know more about him than we do...being his...his...partner." she said with a hint of distain in her voice.

"I am just curious about his past. I want to know more about him, I'm sure you are well aware of how secretive he can be."

"Indeed, well I will try to answer your questions as best I can. Please, come in..."

The brown wolf led Kitt inside the house it looked as if it were right out of the Victorian period of earth. The main living room was two stories tall, a huge fire place along the wall with equally large bay windows on either side adorned with elegant drapery.

"Would you like anything to drink?" she asked trying to maintain a polite lady like tone gesturing for Kitt to sit.

"No, thank you." Kitt responded politely.

"Okay, now what do you want to know?" Aerica asked.

Kitt thought for a moment, not sure where to start, crossing his leg over his knee. "I'm not sure, what was he like as a child? Who were his friends? What was his favorite vid show?" Kitt said semi jokingly.

"Well I'm sure you've read his military record, we moved here a year after he was born, it wasn't easy for on him, growing up secluded from the world, but it's not exactly the safest area around here. Most of his early years were spent on the grounds, being tutored by the best teachers we could hire. As he reached maturity however he insisted on being moved into a public school and he can be quite stubborn. So we had no choice, his father was rough on him as well, I suppose he and I expected a lot more out of him but Alec grew more and more distant and jaded, he got involved with gangs and drugs, constantly getting into fights. That's why we pushed him into the Hun-gar training you know his father is a Hun-gar first class, like yourself."

Kitt nodded just listening to every word she spoke, like it was opening up a whole new person.

"Anyway Alec took the training because we expected him to, but still persisted on his illegal activities being arrested several times. You have to understand, James, Alec's father isn't a bad person he just didn't want to see Alec waste his life so he threatened to end his training if Alec didn't shape up. Being the stubborn pup he was, he ran. That was about ten years ago, we had no idea even if he was alive. Not until we saw the news coverage on the Hun-Gar massacre in Cannis and then your battle with the Alpha."

Kitt adjusted himself in the chair. "I had no idea he never told me any of this."

"Well I do know one thing...he does have a good heart Hung Gar, just sometimes doesn't know how to express it."

Kitt stood up slowly, smiling at Alec's mother. "I have to be going now Lady Drominaz, thank you very much for your time."

"Of course Kitt, when you see Alec and end this war, please tell him to come home sometime." she said.

Kitt nodded and turned to leave. An hour or so of driving beings him back to his apartment in the capitol. Sitting on his couch, Kitt twisted off the cap on a bottle of beer and lit a cigarette then flipped on the TV checking up on the latest civilian coverage of the war; seeing a reporter interviewing some feline as they showed a security tape of a white tiger and a cheetah bursting out of a five story hotel building and crashing into a crowded street. "This tape was released to us just moments ago..." the reporter said and continues his report.

Kitt shot up from his lounging position, his instincts throwing out his senses towards the station feeling the remnants of the battle, two very strong warriors, one of them more powerful than any other of the super soldiers, instantly Kitt calling the Alpha.

"Tarn they're moving again." Kitt exclaimed.

"We know...Kitt, go to the Lartenix station and pick up the trail, but watch your tail." Tarn commanded.

"Yes sir, I'll leave immediately."

Walking into the crime scene, Kitt flashed his ID to the local police and began looking around the area, seeing the indentation left from the impact of the pair. "Did anyone survive?" Kitt asked one of the officers.

"The cheetah was DOA to the infirmary, we lost the Tiger. We found one other in the hotel room he's in critical condition under heavy guard." The officer reported.

"I see, any IDs on any of them?"

"No sir, we don't know who they are. We have a station wide APB for the tiger though."

"Good, keep me posted on any developments." Kitt said heading to the infirmary.

Kitt walked in, his dark thigh length trench coat, flowing in behind him, seeing the small cheetah lying on the stretcher, tubes and monitoring equipment hooked up all over his body. Kitt could sense he was on the edge of dying right there. Kitt stepped over him looking at his battered muzzle, moving his mind out trying to make a connection with him.

"Can you hear me?" Kitt projected into the cheetah's mind.

"Barely, you are so distant...I'm dying aren't I?" he mewed.

"Yes you are...why are you here?" Kitt asked telepathically.

"Trying to get revenge on what the Dominion did to us, but it was too late. The Omegas had already found us."

"Omegas?" Kitt inquired curiously.

"If you ever wanted a challenge in a fight an Omega would give it to you." the dying cheetah said.

"How many of them are there?" Kitt pushed feeling the cheetah beginning to slip away.

"Three...they will be coming for you." The cheetah said as his voice drifted off followed by the heart monitor changing to a solid tone as he died.

"Fuck..." Kitt muttered leaving the room. Walking down the promenade he contemplated the next move when he heard someone calling his name out. Turning to look for the person he sees a dark gray colored raccoon.

"Hey! Sorry, but you're Kitt Alistair, right?" he asked urgently.

Kitt nodded slowly. "Yeah..."

"You just missed him..."

"Missed who?"

"Alec, he left the station an hour ago." the raccoon said quickly.

"What?! How do you know?" Kitt exclaimed.

"He and I used to run in the same wet work crew. I ran into him here, but he left in a hurry with some white tiger dude. He sent this by courier to me." the raccoon handed Kitt an envelope.

Kitt blinked his heart racing. "Do you know where they went?"

"No sorry I don't, but I think he's in trouble. The envelope said I should get this to you at any means possible."

Kitt could sense this raccoon wasn't lying to him. "Okay thank you..." Kitt said, taking the disc and taking off back to his ship.

"Computer, list all out going ships in the last two hours." Kitt ordered into the computer it displaying a list of ten vessels "List ships by identifier tags, either Dominion or unknown tags." Processing the request the list shortened to three ships. "Shit..." Kitt growled.

Kitt opened the envelope seeing a black data disc and a paw written note. "Kitt, I hope this reaches you in time, I think I'm on the trail to finding out where the super soldiers are based out of. This disc was delivered by two defectors, it contains information about them. You can track me by my sub-dermal COM link, frequency; Lupine 476.321 gold. Find me hon, I'm in deep shit" The letter red.

Kitt loaded in the disc and began scanning the information, then quickly opened a communication channel to the Lupine Alpha.

"Tarn! I know where Alec is...I don't have time to talk I'm going dark, no communications. Read the data imbedded in this transmission and you'll be able to send a mop up crew, Kitt out." Kitt's ship quickly disengaged from the stations docking clamp and fired off into hyperspace.
