The Beginning: Part 1
#1 of The Beginning Series
Hey! This is my first upload onto SoFurry, but there are more to come very soon. This is a story that I've been working on and have been posting on my Fur Affinity account. So far there are 4 installments and I am definitely planning on making more. So here is the first part of my Beginning series, I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

This section is meant for character description, if you do not wish to read this or are uninterested by the basic details of the characters in this part of the story, then skip ahead to the title.
** Theodore:** A brown anthro rabbit, Theodore is a very kind and very considerate rabbit who has had a very simple past, nothing really sets him apart from everyone else, yet he always seems to stand out in a crowd. People are drawn to him, but never really approach him. One distinct feature that he does have is his black gear tattoo on his left shoulder, he has made it his symbol and places that symbol on all of his weaponry (it has basically become his own personal crest). His best friend is Carin, a girl whom he also has a crush on (but he won't tell anybody about it).
Carin: A black anthro cat, Carin is like Theodore in many aspects, however her past is a little more scarred. She lost her father to the hands of a terrorist organization when she was young, but her friendship with Theodore has kept her sane and has given her a reason to live. Carin also has her own personal mark. She has a white crescent moon mark that goes through her right eye. She also uses her symbol as a crest much like Theodore does (like I said, they are both very similar).
Shadowy Figure: Not much, if anything, is known about this thing, it is speculated that this mysterious figure is the cause of all of the recent disappearances. The last time this figure was seen was by Carin and Theodore during their last expedition into the forest it dwells in.

The air was cold, the trees were rushing past as the two explorers ran for their lives "Where are we going?" shouted Carin. "Just keep running" Theodore yelled back with fatigue in his voice "don't look back." The two kept running from the looming threat that was chasing them; trees flew past them in a blur, they never stopped, they never rested, they only ran. Carin looked ahead and hope lit her eyes. "Over there! There's an opening!" she exclaimed to Theodore. The two made a break for the opening in the forest in the hopes of escaping the mysterious tree-riding figure. The pair ran like their lives depend on it, ran until their feet got sore and then ran even further. Time seemed to slow down as the pair got closer to the forest opening, they could feel their heartbeats as they ran, they could feel every leaf, every twig, every stone, their senses were heightened to levels they didn't know were possible until this moment. Whether they knew it or not, time had passed and the shadows of the forest became bright and warm as the two emerged from the forest, Theodore first, followed by Carin. Despite being out of the forest and out of harm's way, the two kept running for what seemed like an eternity, they never looked back and they certainly didn't speak until they finally stopped. Carin was the first to speak, her voice was surprisingly strong despite their recent ordeal. "So what now bunny boy?" She asked. "I wish you wouldn't call me that." Theodore stated in a whining, but joking voice. "Aww c'mon, you know you like it." Carin kept teasing, elbowing him in the arm. "Yeah, yeah what whatever you say 'darling'." Both of them laughed at the remark for a bit. "Hehe, Could you imagine?!" Carin teased jokingly. Theodore's ears dropped down, but not enough for Carin to notice "Heh, yeah..." Theodore then noticeably looked down and rubbed the back of his neck, his face, if it wasn't covered with fur, would have burned a bright red. After a bit of silence, Theodore cleared his throat "Uhm...Anyways..." He proceeded to pull out a map that showed all of the land within a 10 mile radius from the main base. "You still have your map!?" Carin exclaimed. "Yeah of course, don't you?" "Uhhm, I may have lost it in our last expedition..." Carin said almost apologetically with a cheesy smile on her face. Theodore let out a deep sigh, "Well at least one of us is responsible" They both chuckled a bit and opened the map, the details were vague at best, but the two could still make out where everything belonged. The pair could see the forest they were instructed to traverse on the map, but were unable to figure out which side of the forest they were on. There were reports of strange activity and travelers going missing in the forest, so Carin and Theodore were instructed to investigate the strange occurrences in the hopes that they would find a logical explanation for all of these happenings, but never in all time would they have expected that shadowy thing to appear. "Well, it looks like we're lost" Theodore stated "or at least we don't know where we are on this map." Carin backed away from the map and poked Theodore on the shoulder. "Do you still have that camping cube?" Carin asked. "The what? Oh Yeah!" Theodore reached into the pack strapped to his leg and pulled out a small, gray, uninteresting, die-sized cube. "S'this it?" Theodore asked holding the cube out so Carin could see. "Yeah that's it, guess we should camp out until we can figure out where we are" Carin moved back to allow Theodore to proceed with the camping cube. He took the cube and plopped it into his maw. He swished the cube around a bit in his mouth to try to completely saturate it. Despite being dehydrated from all the running, Theodore's mouth was surprising moist, which allowed the cube to activate. His maw began to glow a bright fluorescent blue color that could be seen even in the daylight. Theodore spat out the cube onto the ground and backed away to where Carin was standing. A noticeable breeze could be felt emanating from the cube, which was now resting about 10 yards away. The energy was like that of an electric storm, the air vibrated around the two standing there, causing their fur to stand on end. A bright light engulfed the entire area and then faded in a matter of seconds leaving behind a large tent, a campfire and basic survival tools such as fishing rods, cooking equipment, cutlery, and sleeping bags. "That'll never get old" Carin sighed taking in the sight she just witnessed. The sun was starting to set and the sky started to turn a beautiful pink-orange. Carin and Theodore sat by the campfire, watching another day say goodbye. "It's rare for us to get a brake like this isn't it...?" Theodore pondered as Carin listened. "Yeah, feels nice to just sit down and relax with my best friend." Theodore blushed under his fur as he realized just how soft her voice sounded right now. "I wish we could just leave the organization and have more nights like this," Carin said in that soft voice of hers "ya'know?" "Yeah..." Theodore replied thinking about how a plan like that would work out. Some more time passed in silence as the sun set and the world became dark, illuminated only by the moon and stars. "It's getting late Car, we should call it a night." Theodore stood up from the dimly-lit campfire and stretched his arms to the sky, splayed his toes, arched his back as far as his body would allow, and let out a high-pitched moan as he released his stress. He pat Carin on the head and ruffled her hair before sticking his finger into her ear, causing her to jump and give Theodore a good swat to the hand. "Don't do that!" Carin shouted agitated by Theodore's antics. "Pffft okay grumpypuss, heh" Theodore then walked over to the tent and got inside, leaving Carin by the fire. What was that thing? Carin thought to herself, recalling the events of that day. Well whatever it was, I'm just glad he's not hurt. Carin looked over to the tent and then got up to join Theodore. Both of them eventually got into their sleeping bags as the campfire died down, leaving the pair in moonlit tent with nothing but the sound of chirping crickets in the distance, whose song, with time, lulled them to sleep.
