*Last Chapter*
After hearing Koji's plan, both Akeela and Anpu were convinced it would work. It was simple enough, but Anpu didn't approve of the way the plan put Akeela in more danger.
"Why can't I be the one to go for Keket?" Anpu asked, looking down at Akeela and his son Rajin with concern. He really didn't want to lose her again. It had almost killed him last time.
"She is the one Keket wants." Koji answered, and Akeela nodded, placing her paw over Anpu's heart.
"I will be okay." She said softly, smiling up at him.
Walking out of the room, Akeela took a deep breath. She was going to have to be strong. She knew that Keket would throw out every trick she had to keep Akeela away from her, but as Akeela began to walk down the hall, she could feel a burning sensation begin to pump through her veins. It wasn't a spell of any kind. It was hatred and anger. Keket had tried to kill her, tried to take her son, and Keket was the reason that Akeela's mother had been kidnapped and taken to the breeding houses. There was so much anger building up in Akeela that she had to contain it. She needed to save it for when she confronted Keket.
"Be careful." Anpu said from behind her, reaching out to take Akeela's shoulder in his paw.
Before Akeela could reply, Anpu had turned her around and pressed his muzzle to hers, embracing Akeela in a loving and passionate kiss. There was no doubt in her mind that he loved her. She only hoped that she survived so that she could show him the same love in return.
"I will." She whispered, and she took a deep breath, starting to run down the hall.
Quickly, Anpu turned down the corridor on his right, going to the position that had been planned. He wasn't worried about Rajin. Koji had the baby boy, and Anpu knew that Koji's magic could protect his son. He was just deathly worried about Akeela. If one thing went wrong, he really would lose her, and he would spend the rest of his life trying to find a way to rescue her from the underworld. At that thought, Anpu literally began to shiver, and he growled, knowing that mistakes were not an option.
Walking into the throne room, Akeela could see that all of the lanterns were lit with bright flames, sending flashes of yellow and orange darting up the walls of the room. Since the room was circular, the center of the room was left in darkness, because the light of the flames could only reach so far. Stepping forward, Akeela began to dart her eyes back and forth over the room. She knew Keket was lurking in the shadows, and as she neared the throne, she could barely make out a dark form lounging in the seat.
"Keket! I know you're over there!" Akeela yelled, glaring straight through the darkness.
Unfortunately, Akeela did not have any weapons to defend herself with. She needed Keket to get close to her, and she knew that Keket would not even come close if Akeela was holding a sword or a dagger. Standing still for a moment, Akeela could sense Anpu above her. He was in position just as planned, and as she took a step forward, she watched Keket stand, making her dark blue gown flow behind her. She seemed so casual. It was almost as if she had no worries, and she was not scared of Akeela at all.
"How did you get back?" Keket asked in a deep, demanding voice.
"That's for me to know and for you to find out." Akeela said with a stern voice, clenching her fists together. "You deserve to burn in the underworld. You're pure evil Keket!"
"Honey, I am simply not scared of you. I could kill you again with one flick of my wrist." She said, smirking at Akeela.
Quickly, Keket raised her left hand, keeping her palm straight as if she was trying to cast a spell of some sort, but nothing happened, and Keket's face began to fade in color as the blood drained from her cheeks. She was terrified in that moment, because her powers weren't working. What Keket didn't know was that Koji was sitting right outside with baby Rajin, casting spells to prevent Keket from using magic.
"Looks like you're all out of tricks." Akeela said tauntingly.
"I always have something up my sleeve." Keket replied, snapping her fingers.
At first, Akeela had no idea what was going on, but Kesi ran out of the darkness, gripping a dagger in her paws. She was running straight for Akeela, and Akeela stretched out her arms, catching both of Kesi's paws in a tight grip. They wrestled for a few seconds before Akeela dropped onto her back and brought her feet up quickly. Akeela pushed both of her feet to Kesi's stomach and brought them back in a rolling movement, sending Kesi flying into the wall behind Akeela.
Swiftly, Akeela got back up to her feet, and she spun around, smirking down at Kesi. There was no stopping Akeela now, and she grabbed Kesi by the hair, pulling her to her feet. Kesi screamed in pain, and Akeela quickly placed the dagger to Kesi's neck, making Kesi begin to whimper.
"You're just as evil as your mother. Give me the dagger Keket, or I'll slit your daughter's throat wide open." Akeela said, gowling softly.
"Mama!" Kesi squealed, trying to pull from Akeela's grasp, but Akeela was much stronger. "Save me!"
"You think I care if you slit her throat? She was a mistake in the first place. You'd be doing me a favor." Keket said, smirking.
Honestly, Akeela was never going to hurt Kesi. Even though she hated Kesi with a passion, she would not slit her throat, but Keket didn't seem to care what happened to her daughter.
"Mama! Please save me!" Kesi called out as tears began to stream down her cheeks. "I don't want to die!"
In an instant, there was a flash of silver through the air, and Akeela heard Kesi grunt, letting out a pained whimper. Kesi's legs went limp, and her body weight pressed back against Akeela, causing Akeela to fall back under Kesi's weight. Looking down, Akeela could see that Keket had thrown a dagger, and it had went straight into Kesi's heart. Akeela stared down at her half-sister, simply terrified. She watched as the life slowly drained from Kesi's eyes, and she got to her feet hastily, looking for Keket.
"How could you do that?!" Akeela yelled, darting her eyes back and forth in the darkness, trying to find Keket's figure lurking about. "She was your daughter you evil demon!"
"You have no leverage on me darling. I am immortal. She was going to die eventually, and I wanted you to see that you cannot control me. I will never do as you ask. I am in control!"
Keket's voice was bouncing off the walls, making it hard for Akeela to pinpoint her exact location, but Akeela kept moving, staying next to the wall so that she would see if Keket charged her.
"Does it make you happy to know that you will be getting ravaged by demons in the underworld like your mother was on Earth? I bet she cried every time she was taken. Do you want to know how she died?"
"No!" Akeela yelled, feeling the anger swell and burn in her chest. All Akeela needed was to see Keket. Once she saw her, this could all end.
"She was sold to a very demonic male who mutilated his slaves. Your mother suffered the worst fate possible." Keket growled, smirking as she knew she angered Akeela.
This time, Akeela knew where Keket was in the darkness, and she charged forward. Akeela growled, crashing her body straight into Keket, sending them both spiraling back into the light of the flames. Looking down, Akeela could see that Keket's amulet had started to glow. It was only a matter of seconds before the amulet tried to defend Keket. Reaching down, Akeela gripped the demonic dagger in her paws tightly, and she held her paw up into the air, flattening her palm with the dagger in the middle.
"Now!" She yelled, and as the amulet let out a sharp beam of red light, Akeela was shot off of Keket's body and thrown several feet backwards to the ground.
Akeela's body began to shiver, convulsing a bit on the ground in pain, and Keket stood, smirking. She had won, and as she walked to Akeela, she swayed her tail back and forth.
"Say hello to Osiris for me." Keket said with a grin, and she kicked Akeela's paw, expecting to see the dagger, but the dagger was nowhere to be found.
"Where is it?" She yelled, looking around the floor.
As Keket stood in place, looking for the dagger, Akeela started to laugh. Keket growled down at her, kicking Akeela's side as hard as she could, but instead of yelling in pain, Akeela simply smiled.
"Say hello to Osiris for me."
Keket seemed confused, but what she didn't know was that Akeela's paw had been enchanted with a transportation spell. Koji had given her the spell just before she left, and on the top of the balcony, Anpu stood, holding the dagger in his paws. Keket didn't even see him, and as Anpu aimed, he threw the dagger with all of his strength, watching as the blade slid right through the ruby amulet, and pierced keket's skin, sinking right into her heart.
Screaming in pain, Keket dropped to her knees. The dagger was lodged in her chest, and as Keket reached up, she tried to pull the blade out, but she was not strong enough. Akeela watched as Keket slowly closed her eyes. She was gone, and once her spirit left her body, the windows to the throne room flooded with light. Keket had been keeping the light out of the throne room with magic, and as Akeela looked out the window, she could see that it was only a few minutes before sundown. She was safe.
"Anpu!" Akeela called happily. She had completely recovered from the blast, and Anpu jumped over the balcony railing, landing on his feet right beside Akeela.
"I never knew you were so good with weapons." Akeela said, smiling softly as Anpu pressed to her body.
"I've had my fair share of training." He replied, holding Akeela in a loving embrace. "Can we please get some sleep? It's been a long day." Anpu whispered, and they both laughed gently.
It was true. It had been such a long day with so many things happening at once, and as they both walked out of the throne room, Koji met them at the door, smiling as he handed the baby boy back to Akeela.
"I think we all need some rest." He said with a smile, and they all nodded, sighing softly as they all turned to watch the sun set over the horizon. The large, golden orb slowly disappeared, and Akeela felt a weight lifted off of her shoulders. She was free from Osiris.
"Let's go to bed."
__
"Is everything done?" Akeela asked, walking up to stand next to Anpu in the throne room. They had both had a long night's rest, but first thing in the morning, they had woken up, ready to clean up all of the damage that Keket had made.
"Yes, both of the bodies are gone, and they are being sent back to their kingdom. One thing is strange though, when I came in this morning, the dagger wasn't in Keket's chest, but I saw some strange black fog floating around the room.
"Osiris probably got his weapon back." Akeela answered, taking Anpu's paw into hers.
Rajin was in a little pouch that was attached to Akeela's chest. It was a type of baby harness that many mothers used to hold their children without having to hold them with their arms, but the child was still gently pressed to the mother's chest, letting them listen to their mother's heartbeat and sleep peacefully. Rajin was doing just that. He was fast asleep against his mother's chest, resting his head on her plump breasts.
"Do you think your mother will believe what happened?" Akeela asked curiously.
"Not a chance." Anpu answered, smiling down to Akeela. "By the way, I hear that King Tomin of the nearby kingdom snapped out of some sort of trance last night at sundown. He's coming to our kingdom to thank us for what we did, and he wants to meet his long lost daughter." Anpu said with a smirk, watching as realization hit Akeela.
"You mean my father is coming?" She asked, feeling a bit nervous to meet her father. Even Keket had said that her father loved her when she was just an infant, and she wondered what it would be like to meet him.
"Yes, he will be here in a few hours." Anpu answered. "There's also one other thing that I need to ask you."
"What would that be?" Akeela asked, swaying her tail slowly behind her.
"Will you be my queen?" Anpu asked, smiling down at his love. "I want you by my side. I don't want anyone else. I need you Akeela. Losing you almost killed me, and I never want to feel that again." He said, smiling at her.
"Yes Anpu." Akeela replied, turning so that baby Rajin was also pressed to his father's chest gently. "I will be your queen."
Anpu smiled, and he leaned down, taking Akeela's cheek into his large paw before he brought her muzzle up a bit and pressed his lips to hers. They kissed passionately for a few minutes, but soon, they both heard someone calling their names, and they pulled away from each other.
"Akeela! Anpu!"
Turning their heads, both Akeela and Anpu saw Koji walking up to them. He had a bright smile on his face, and he seemed to be overjoyed.
"What is it Koji? You seem really happy." Akeela said, giggling softly.
"I am very happy my future Queen." He said, and he folded his hands behind his back, looking to the ground before he looked back up at them. "Also, I have a gift. I was going to give it to you after you were both married, but I'm not sure I can wait."
Pulling his hands from behind his back, Koji had two small vials of liquid. The liquid inside was milky in color, but as the light reflected against the glass, the rainbow reflected back, making the liquid sparkle and gleam every color imaginable.
"What is that?" Anpu asked curiously. He had never seen anything like it before.
"It's my gift to both of you. Okay, it's not all just from me. It's a potion for both of you. You are both brave and loving, and the world needs people like you both. The world will always need kind hearted people, and like me, there are others that are sent to be healers. I've been around for so long, and I told the gods I was ready to give my gifts to someone else. I chose both of you to take my place. You more than likely won't have magic, but Akeela, you will be a healer. You will heal others, because I can see how much you care about everyone. Anpu, you are the protector. People always need someone to protect them, and you are brave. As long as you both continue to help other, you will remain on earth, and you will be immortal just like me."
"What?" Akeela asked, not truly believing what Koji was saying. "What will happen to you if we take your place?"
"I will return to the heavens where I was meant to go a long time ago. Please, I've been looking for someone to take my place for half a century. I want you both to have it."
"What about our son? Will he be immortal?" Anpu asked, looking down at the tiny baby that slept on Akeela's breast.
"No, your son has a much greater destiny. He will be the best pharaoh that Egypt has ever seen, and it is because he wants to follow his father's footsteps."
Akeela and Anpu looked at each other for a long moment, and Akeela blushed, nodding at Koji.
"I will take your place." She said, taking the vial.
"As will I." Anpu replied, taking his vial from Koji's paw.
Opening the bottles, both Akeela and Anpu drank the contents, feeling the milky liquid slide down their tongue, and Koji smiled, nodding to them.
"Thank you. I know you both will make the world a better place."
As Koji walked away from them, Akeela and Anpu watched him slowly begin to fade. He was turning into sand, and the little specks of sand began to drift off with the wind, blowing all over Egypt. In seconds, Koji was gone, and a gentle breeze drifted over Akeela's face, bringing the sweet, natural scent of the Nile River with it. Akeela took deep breath, and she sighed, remembering the first time she had taken the scent into her nose. Akeela was lost in her thoughts, and Anpu reached over, taking her soft paw in his.
"I'll love you, forever and always." He whispered, making Akeela smile brightly.
"I'll love you, forever and always." Akeela replied, looking into Anpu's bright eyes that resembled the water that flowed in the Nile.
"Shall we go tell everyone that we're getting married?" Anpu asked, smirking a bit.
"A white jackal and black jackal getting married? I think you're starting off your reign as Pharaoh a bit rocky." She snickered, and Anpu wrapped his arms around her, walking back up the stairs to the palace, and Akeela gently touched one of the large pillars as she walked by, realizing that the palace was her new home and it had been her home since the first time she had set foot in the halls.

"The end!" Juliet said, smiling softly at her daughter.
"That was a great story mommy, but how did Akeela and Anpu explain to their son that they were immortal?"
"Well, as Koji said in the story, many people would try to kill them if they knew that the couple was immortal. They had to keep it a secret. They had to fake their own death once their son was old enough and wise enough to rule on his own. He went on to be the most loved pharaoh that Egypt had ever seen."
"What happened to Akeela and Anpu?!" Katrina asked urgently, looking into her mother's eyes.
"Legend says that they're still running around somewhere, but it's just a story." Juliet said, smiling.
"Now, go get your clothes ready. You're supposed to stay at your friend's house tonight." Juliet said, watching as Katrina pranced out of the bedroom.
Smiling, Juliet followed her, helping her pack her things and feeding her daughter lunch. After Katrina had devoured her peanut butter and jelly sandwich, there was a knock on the door, and Katrina ran to open it.
"Bye mommy!" Katrina cheered, walking out the door with her best friend and her friend's mother. Katrina looked so cute carrying her bag, and Juliet couldn't help but smile as the bag bounced off of Katrina's side.
"Bye sweetie! Have a great time!" She called, and she walked to the door, watching as her daughter ran through the yard and climbed into the red minivan at the end of the driveway.
As Juliet pulled back from the window, she bumped into James. James had snuck behind her, and with a smile, he wrapped his arms around her waist, nuzzling into her neck.
"You're still so sneaky." She said, and James smirked, spinning Juliet around to face him before he gently pressed her back against the wall.
"Take those things off." He said playfully, and at first, Juliet thought that he meant her night gown, but she realized that he was still looking into her brown eyes. He wanted her to take her contacts out.
"I want to see your eyes." He whispered, and Juliet smiled, reaching up to her eyes. Slowly, she removed her contacts, and as she looked back up at her husband, her eyes sparkled, reflecting a light, lavender. No one in that day and time had her eye color. It was a very rare trait that was only seen in one ancient Egyptian family, and as James leaned in, he kissed her deeply, pressing her harder to the wall.
"There are those beautiful eyes I love so much." He whispered, and he smirked, twirling Juliet's hair. "You should really stop dying this too. I miss your red hair."
"You know I can't." Akeela whispered, smiling softly up at Anpu as she stroked his cheek with her soft paws.
"I'll love you, forever and always." He said, smiling as he looked deeply into her lavender eyes, pressing his cold nose to hers.
"I'll love you too, forever and always." She replied, taking his paws into hers.
They both started to walk into the bedroom, and as Akeela entered the hallway, she lifted her paw, twisting it a bit. Anpu looked back, watching as the front door locked itself, and he smirked, picking Akeela up into his arms before they both disappeared into their bedroom, locking themselves away from the world for a few hours to simply enjoy each other, just as they had done for centuries.
