Adair's new start-The beginning
#1 of Adair's new start
The following story is about a young white ferret named Adair Zephyr and how he ended up being friends with the only human on Corneria along with others he met one faithful day. It is based of the Chronicles of Star Fox series made by Ryan-masterpaladin-Lewis. This is my first story of this scale, and I plan on making more based on the comments I get whether good or bad. I hope you enjoy it.

"Hey Adair, what have you been up to? You have been hiding from your pa again?" A familiar voice said. I looked up to see a familiar face again. She was the only girl I got along with, her cream fur and black and white spots looked beautiful on the feline that stood before me with her eyes closed as she smiled widely with happiness in her heart.
"The same as always Eirwen, nothing new and nothing old. I could never even lie to you to begin with." I said smiling a little as I sat got up from my favorite spot at the base on an old tree on the outskirts of Corneria. I usually came here to think or get away from some pressures of life, family and especially school which I hated so much. "Still looking as great as always, and still mixing and matching clothes together." I said smiling taking some time to notice her pastel blue shirt, brown pants with floral print with a hole for her cat tail to fit through and a pair of white tennis with light blue socks.
"Yup I will never change. I see you're also drawing like always as well. Although I never thought you would still be in uniform at this time." She said noticing I had on my school uniform of a white shirt, long blue pants with a spot to place my tail through and a pair of black shoes. "So why are you here, certainly not drawing with your uniform on? So what is the matter?" She asked cheerfully fixing her gaze on me with her eyes of blue and purple. Never in my young life have I like a girl before I met her. She was weird in many ways from the way she dressed layering clothes like a skirt over pants, to her personality of friendliness but still being self reliant and not taking crud off of anyone who messed with her. Overall I loved her, but I am too shy to tell her.
"I... Just been thinking lately." I said blushing slightly. I wanted to tell her right there, but my shyness still had the best of me.
"Oh, and what might you be thinking about?" She asked. Feline curiosity I guessed. She kept he gaze upon me as I tried to muster as much courage as I could. I needed to tell her, if I did not I might not have another chance.
"I wanted to say... I..." I began feeling as courageous as I could be. "I lo..."
*Bang*
I sharply opened my eyes feeling pain coming from my mouth. I realized I was on the floor in class and thought I must have fell asleep and slipped of my desk. I could hear jeering from all corners of the room as I got back into my seat in complete humiliation for my blunder. I buried my head in my arms on the desk as I felt my cheeks burn hot as I blushed strongly from being the laughing stock of the class. It wasn't until after few moments until it hit me. "Nothing but a dream..."
"Hey Adi, are you alright man? You look kind of glum right now." I heard one of my classmates said. I turned around to see it was my best friend Sky. He was also a ferret like me. He had red fur with dark blue under fur and dressed in the school colors of white and blue. When it comes to finding him, he sticks out of the crowd like a sore thumb, but he was the best friend I could have asked for. He had a worry look in his green eyes like as if something was wrong with me, or as if I was sick.
"I am ok Sky. I am just tired today." I said trying to comfort Sky so he would not worry about me too much. I gave a small false smile as I looked at him before turning my attention to the board. Nonsense had been written all over it by many of the class clowns along with the jerks of the class and school in general. I am still having a hard time believing the made it to this high class private school. It was only meant for those who were smart enough to succeed, but apparently the standards had been dropped a couple of notches as I say some of the students in various classes struggle with various but simple mathematical equations. To me math in general was child's play, but I still came here to learn as much as I could. I placed my head back down wearily wishing to be away from this place. I nearly fell asleep again if I had not heard the school bell ring signaling the end of the day. "Finally hell is over until Monday." I murmured to myself as I donned by heavy pack and went on my way back to home.
"Hey sleepy head, where do you think you are going to in such a hurry?" A loud brutish voice said. I turned around to see that the owner of the voice was sitting right behind me with a smug grin on his face. "I still need my 'commission' unless you want to take the alternative." He said as he got up and approached me with a horrifying chuckle. He was a big bulky bull with grey fur and a nasty habit of taking everybody's things. "So what will it be? The money or a beating of a life time?" He offered a choice, none of them being rather well.
"Fine, I will give the money." I said digging in my pockets for whatever money I can spare. "Don't you have anything better to do Adler?" I asked wanting to know. I still checked my pockets and found only enough money to catch a bus home and that was it. The only thing I could do, which I prefer rather not to do, was to play a trick on him. I thought hard for a moment and pulled out illusionary money and gave it to him.
"No, I don't have anything better to do, and besides I love to mess with you and other students in the school." He said content with the money I gave him. "Nice doing business with you." He said coarsely as he smiled in contentment. He gave one last chuckle before leaving on his way to do who knows what. I smiled softly and chuckled knowing he will be sore when he looks for the money.
"Why did you give that bully you money for Adi?" Sky asked confused and a bit angered by the fact Adler was still picking on me. Sky stood before me angrily, not at me but Adler, but Sky did not realize what I had done yet.
"I did not give him any money. I only had enough for the bus and that was it." I said smiling widely as I showed him the little money I had. After about two minutes he finally figured out what I did and laughed a bit loudly in happiness.
"So you used your power of illusion on him then? Why am I surprised when I know you could do that anytime you want?" He asked smiling widely. After the laughter subsided he started to move on home. "Let's go before we have to wait at the bus stop longer than we need to." Sky said hurrying along.
"Right behind you man." I said hurrying myself so I would not miss my bus. It took about half an hour for a bus to get to the stop at any given hour and I had a long ride ahead of me. "Let's hope it isn't packed up." I said smiling, enjoying Sky's company. We managed to make it to the bus stop just before the bus was leaving. We made out way into it and found there were still a few empty seats left and occupied them. The bus ride was long, and uneventfully boring. The only good thing about the ride is that I finished some math homework for the day and the bus had a good radio station playing some good rock music from various bands whose names I didn't know. We eventually got off on Leopard Cove Street which is a few blocks away from my home. Sky only lived across the street from me. We started to walk intently down the street but we turned into an alley that leads straight to our houses. It would have taken about 30 minutes to walk all the way around, but only 10 through the alley way. The alley was pretty average, dirt everywhere with the strong smell of garbage and rotting food, maybe even urine! Man it wreaked here, worse than the boy's bathroom at my old school by far and it smelt like some one had died in there for over 3 years or something.
"Well, well, well. Look what came to our door step fellas." A brown and white Rottweiler said appearing in front of Sky and me. He was wearing an open black jacket, blue jeans and a pair of worn down tennis shoes. He looked like a typical gang member in his twenties or thirties. He was also accompanied by a brown hare, a grey weasel and a tall black stallion wearing similar outfits. They were all male. "We have some fresh meat today. I wonder how we will break them in." He said giving a menacing smile as he sat on a dumpster while the stallion and weasel went behind us making sure we don't go anywhere. They looked at us for a moment pondering on how they will 'show' us the way the worked in their alley.
"I say we just give them our traditional greeting Big Dog." The weasel said from behind us picking up a wooden plank that was nearby. He looked like he wanted to fight anyone at the moment, for what reason I am not sure.
"Good idea Sly Spy. I say let's do it any objections Tall boy? Do you have any complaints from you Street Hare?" Big Dog asked with a wicked smile as he got an iron pipe from the dumpster's side. He jumped of and stood before us with his pipe ready to do some damage to anyone unfortunate to be at the other end, and I think that might just be use. Both the stallion and hare had no objections about the plan and closed in closer. I was momentarily frozen in fear, but Sky leapt at the weasel giving him a good haymaker to the stomach. The weasel howled in pain and fell to the floor cringing and holding his gut like they were going to fall out. Sky was overall impressed and mocked him, but was hit in the back by Big Dog. Sky landed hard on the ground face first with a loud thump and yelled in agony. I was almost instantly free from my paralysis when I saw three of the guys going to give a beat down to Sky.
"Leave him alone you bastard." I yelled lunging at the Rottweiler with all I had and knocked him to the ground with me on top. He was too stunned to react quickly so I took the initiative to slam my fists into his face a few times. After a couple moments have past I was stuck in my face with a wooded board and sent at the other end of the alley by the weasel, but not after I knocked out a few teeth. I slammed into the wall and fell sitting with my head down groaning in pain.
"Hey over here!" Sky said taunting the group as Big Dog picked me up by the color of my shirt. "Let's see how you like a little heat." He said and put up his fists, which were soon lit ablaze with fire. He kicked the tall but slow stallion in the groin and the slammed an uppercut to the hare's face and scorched his mug. Sky then elbowed the Tall Boy in his face while he was too preoccupied. Sky looked around to see that the weasel had disappeared and was no where in sight. "Looks like you comrade left you." Sky said flaring up a blaze around his body. Big Dog looked at him worried that he might have ticked off the wrong pair. He threw my weak body in the corner of the dumpster where I landed right on the edge of it on my stomach. I fell on the ground clutching my stomach in pain unable to do anything.
"Let's scrap then." Big Dog said drawing his pipe up and swinging it around a few times before charging right at Sky making a swing for the body. Sky just back stepped and caught the pipe in his hands. His flames were so intense that the pipe literally started to turn to molten iron in a few seconds forcing Big Dog to let go of his weapon.
"If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen." Sky said taunting him. He made a quick lunge at Big Dog, but missed. As Sky recovered something slammed his head and caused him to fall on the ground. He turned over to see that the weasel had hit him, from where he had no clue.
"Hey no one ever sees my air attack." Sly Spy said grinning widely and content for getting his leader out of a jam. He stood on Sky with his boot to the gut and Sky was unable to do anything.
"Let's teach these two the meaning of pain." Big Dog growled and started to beat Sky with the aid of Sly, while I was being attended to by the kicks of his Tall friend and the Hare. They were beating us like there was no tomorrow. I was kicked in the stomach so many times I eventually threw up blood and whatever I had for lunch. Sky was in no better condition with a few gashes on his arms and legs, blood staining his fur a darker red.
"Hey small fries, leave my bro and his friend alone." I heard a some what familiar voice. It sounded like, Drahcir! How did he find us? Where has he been the past few years? Those were the only thoughts in my mind at the moment. "I will only say it once more. Leave my brother and his friend alone!" He said demanding strongly. Drahcir was a tallish blue fox with white under fur and black fur around his eyes with a stripe going down his right cheek. He was wearing a dark blue shirt and long pants with bandages wrapping both hands and feet.
"Looks at whose talking scrawny, you must be as weak as this piece of garbage here." He said tossing me on the ground. I groaned in pain as I landed right in front of Drahcir who was looking ticked off. Without warning all four of the thugs jumped on Drahcir at the same time. As I watched from the corner of my eye I saw Big Dog's buddies get sent into the walls while he was being held by his shirt in Drahcir's grasp.
"This is not worth it. Go back to your little hole and stay there. You are just pretending to be big men by picking on those who are weaker and out numbering them. You are way out of your league with me." Drahcir said tossing him into the dumpster where he first appeared. I could here the groans of the thugs; they were in pain like nothing they ever experienced yet. I smiled softly looking at my brother till darkness crept into my vision as I passed out.
I groaned loudly as I tried to get up. My body felt as though it were beaten with a mallet. I eventually manage to get up despite the protests of my body. I looked around and saw I was in my room at home. There was a bookshelf right besides my bed, a computer in the front of the room and a closet to the left of the bed. "Was it just another dream?" I asked myself feeling bruised and battered to no end.
"It is certainly not a dream. It took me forever to train and get back here, and I would hate to have to do it all over again." Drahcir said opening the door smiling faintly as he came in and sat on the soft bed right beside me. "You and your friend put up one hell of a fight for yourselves, and I am proud of you two." He said honestly.
"Thanks, but where have you been the past couple of years? What have you been doing? Why did you just decide to show up today?" I asked so quickly that Drahcir did not have anytime to answer them right away.
"Whoa, hold on there bro. I will tell you in a minute just give me some time to contemplate. Is that ok?" He asked quizzically and I nodded slowly. He started to explain what he had been doing over the past few years. Apparently he was living on the outskirts of Corneria city in the hills and mountains in a cave that he built by hand and fist literally. He was training hard there so he can become strong and become a professional fighter to earn some cash quickly. He also said that he left back to his real home about a month ago and just reached today (or was it yesterday) to find me being whooped by the thugs. He also said that he dropped Sky back at his home safely before I asked about him
"Thanks bro. You're a life saver. I wish I could just leave this area of the city and learn at another institute. Somewhere better, where no will harass me for any money or the sorts." I said thanking him and also slightly explaining my current situation a little by accident.
"I thought you might have hated living here. It never was a good place to really grow up properly." Drahcir said agreeing with what I said. "Why don't you go and continue your studies at the Cornerian Defense Academy or something like that. It is in a better neighborhood and you will learn more things there as well." He said brightly. "I have a friend that went there and is now serving the Cornerian army. He said that he learnt a great deal of things there."
"You know what. I will, but the last thing I do is want to tell Dad. He will be sore hearing the news." I said feeling bad that if I did go to join the academy I will leave dad here. Our mom was living on another planet being a nurse for one of the military bases although I forgot which one. She is a white fox with long brown hair, and my dad is a brown ferret with many grease stains splotching his fur in various places. The grease came out but the color stayed set in, even after taking heavy duty baths for over three long weeks. He was a mechanic for the Cornerian military and could fix any vehicle they could give him, although he needed time of course.
"He usually is anyways. I will handle the old man here. You can go and study further on at the academy." Drahcir said smiling widely knowing that it was his turn to put up with Dad for a while till I finish up my studies. "You should tell Sky and you girlfriend that before you go though. Just so they won't worry." He said reminding me before I left too abruptly and making them worry unnecessarily
"Thanks for the reminder, but you know I don't and won't have a girlfriend. I made a promise already around six years ago since she left." I said lowering my head and blushing slightly, I couldn't believe that I was still holding on to that promise for such a long time, I was twelve when I promised her and now I am almost eighteen. In a few months I will officially be eighteen and could date anyone I guess, but I will keep my promise strong knowing that she is doing the same.
"So you still hold Eirwen close to you heart. That is definitely touching. I will go and get a note ready for dad." Drahcir said Leaving with a smile. He knew I made that promise a long time ago, so why did he imply I had a girlfriend besides her. I pushed the thought out of my mind as I slowly got up as I felt a bit better and less sore. I went over to the computer and got a phone I hid at the back of the screen and dialed up Sky. As the phone rang I looked at the mirror, I was shocked to see that there was no trace of blood on my mouth and that I was in casual clothes. 'Sneaky bugger, he must have changed me off while I was out.' I though and then pushed the thought out of my head hoping that he did not enjoy himself while I was busy being unconscious .
"Hello? What do you want Adi?" Sky asked and broke me out of my thoughts at the moment. For a brief second I actually forgot what I was going to say.
"Hey Sky, I was calling to say that I would be going off to another school, and academy really. I am sick of the area here and the garbage that goes to our school now." I said saying it straight forward not wanting to beat around the bush and take too much time.
"Ok then. I was thinking the same thing but never knew anywhere to go." He said giving his thoughts which caught me by surprise. For a long time I thought he love the school he was attending. He started to explain the reasons he wanted to leave, much of them were similar to mine but an added few were completely new. I had told him about the academy my brother had mentioned to me and he told me about having a brother living close by to that area and we could stay with him till we enrolled properly. He said he could meet me by the bus stop with a few things and go there tonight at nine. He already informed his brother Turf about him going to live there for a while and did not mind anyone joining in. I agreed to meet him at the bus and hung up the phone to get some things packed in a small kitbag when Drahcir came in.
"Ok Adair. I wrote a letter to Dad so he can read it tomorrow. Knowing him he is probably going to be busy tonight with work still and won't be home till tomorrow." He said remembering very well his habits and tendencies despite being away for about four years.
"True, he does get a lot of work done before coming home so he could make some extra cash and extra jokes." I said smiling weakly. Our dad had a knack for making up original and funny jokes at some parties or just at home. It was hard to tell whether he was serious or not half the time. After talking about pa for a moment or two, I briefly told Drahcir about Sky's and mine plan and how we were going to go to his brother's house more into the suburban area and stay there till we registered. He understood and helped me pack up a few of my clothes and possessions to carry with me. Eventually 9 pm came and Drahcir and I went to the bus stop to meet Sky. We met up and went on the bus to our destination. Drahcir came along for the ride to make sure we got there safely. All the while I couldn't help thinking as I went to a new start. 'I will meet you again soon Eirwen.'
