Scars Ch. 6
I woke up to the sound of footsteps. I sat up, my hands outstretched to my sword which is up against the side of the couch. I look in every direction, every corner. I see a shadow move in the corner of my eye and I take out my sword in a battle ready position.
I stand up from the couch, my teeth barring, and my sword ready to strike. I hear movement behind me and I turn, swinging my sword. The blade stops inches away from Chris's neck. I steady my breathing as I realize I nearly killed my only friend in this world, I lower my sword.
"Sorry," I say, putting the sword back in the scabbard.
"It's okay," Chris said, still a little terrified. "I should know by now not to walk up behind you."
After breakfast, Chris goes off to school, leaving me all alone. I sit on the couch TV, my sword on my lap. Not a single minute goes by that I'm not tense. I look at every dark corner of the room Victor could be hiding in.
That's his specialty; hiding in the shadows, watching as his target goes insane with fear, only finishing them off once their huddled in the fetal position in their own piss. I'm not the weak, and Victor knows that. The second I let my guard down, I'm dead. I grip hard onto my sword with the thought of dying by the hands of that man.

I'm walking through the village, trying to keep up with the woman who's been almost like a mother to him. Tonya turns her head toward me and gives me a smile. I smile back as we continue walking. We soon come up to a large 4-story house. Leaning against the main doors, a menacing wolf smirked at the oncoming duo.
"You finally gonna train the little guy?" the wolf grinned. "I never saw you as the mother type Tonya."
"I thought Conway sent you on a job?" Tonya snaps. "What are you still doing here, Victor?"
"When I heard the pup was earning his stripes I had to see it for myself," Victor says. His gaze turns to toward me. One of the first things Tonya ever told me when I came to the village was to never show fear in front of the "scary guys".
"Uh-oh, looks like the kid about to wet himself," Victor grins.
I couldn't help it, my legs just began shaking. Sweat slid down my face and my jaw kept shivering as my eyes met his; the eyes of a killer. Those cold, blue eyes of his struck me like a sword through the chest. It was only when Tonya put herself in front of me, blocking my view of him that I could regain my composure.
"You should leave Victor," Tonya says. "I insist." Tonya's hand moves to one of her knives. Victor's grin lowers, but retains that still menacing feel. He walks toward us. Tonya grips onto the knife, only to release the grip once he passes the both of us.
Just when I think it's over, Victor stops and turns to me. "Hey kid, hope to see you after your first mission," Victor says. He starts laughing maniacally. I'm frozen with fear, not even Tonya could calm me down at that point. My training as a mercenary began the next day; I couldn't speak let alone pick up a sword.
Tonya was there to protect me back then; I'm on my own from here on. Hell, I wouldn't put it past em to send Tonya to get me. If I had to choose out of anyone of them, I'd like to die by her hands...and hers only. It'd be fitting to have the teacher kill the student.
The room was starting to get really warm so I got up and opened the balcony, letting the cool air slam my face. Feeling satisfied, I walk back to the couch. "Maybe when Chris gets back we could order pizza," I thought.
After an hour or two, I heard the door unlock and Chris walks through the door. "Anything happen when I was gone."
"Nope," I said. "Everything's been relatively normal."
"Just what I like," Chris says as he puts his backpack on the ground near the door. "Hey, maybe your guild thinks you've skipped town after your encounter with the last guy."
"You'd think that," I said. "My guild is very secretive, hence why their hunting me so damn much. The minute one of us is done with a mission, we high-tail it out of there and make sure no trace of your existence is left behind."
"How do you get your missions?" Chris asks as he walks over to the balcony. He seems to be asking a lot of questions all of a sudden. I don't think it's a good idea to tell him everything, although, even if Chris knew everything; if Victor finds me, he'll more or likely kill Chris as well.
"We may be secret, but only to the public," I say as I put my hands behind my head. "The only ones who know of our existence are very powerful, very high in government people give our leader missions in exchange for money."
"Your leader?" Chris asks, sheepishly as he leans on the balcony railings.
Victor is still sitting in the exact same bench, overlooking the apartment building. His eyes catch in the corner of his eye the dingo that he's had his eye on since coming to the city. "Took you awhile to pop your little head out," Victor says to himself. "Now I know where to go." Victor stands from the bench and walks toward the apartment.
Chris walks away from the balcony, leaving the door completely opened. "So this Conway guy," Chris begins. "He's the one sending the guys after you?"
"Basically," I responded as I laid down on the couch. "He leads the group with an iron fist. One wrong move and you're dead."
"And you made a wrong move?" Chris asks.
"In his eyes," I said as I looked up at the ceiling.
"What did you do?" Chris asks.
"I really don't want to talk about it," I said, my eyes gazing at the plain white ceiling. Chris looks down toward the floor, a feeling of guilt, that he just went over the line. I wasn't ready to admit what I did, how I fucked up.
"No tell him pup, you told him everything else, at least tell him that," the voice was so familiar and sinister that it awoke me from my daze. Me and Chris both look toward the balcony, the wolf grins at the two of us at he slowly steps into the apartment, sword at side. "I mean, he's gonna be dead in a few minutes so might as well."
"Victor?!" I said as I sat up. "How did you find me so fast?"
"For a big city like this it wasn't that hard," Victor says. "I must say, for a trained mercenary you are horrible at hiding."
"I don't want to fight you," I said slowly getting to my feet. "We can talk about this."
"Oh we are far from talking pup," Victor says. My eyes look toward my sword which is lying on the ground right of me. Victor notices and lunges as I jump to my sword. Victor is faster and kicks the sword away and grabs me by my hair and slams me to the ground.
Chris tries to attack from behind, but is quickly stopped in his tracks by Victor's blade pointed at him. I try to struggle to get up, but Victor's hand is pressed hard on me that I can barely lift it an inch off the ground. I bare my teeth to him as he grins at me, almost like he is enjoying it.
"Get off me Victor!" I yelled.
"Can't do that pup," Victor says. "I've come too far to just hand over mercy to a pathetic traitor like you."
"You're one to talk!" I yell as I use my free hand to knock his hand off my face and use my now free legs to push him back towards the balcony and away from me and Chris. I stand to my feet and bare my teeth. "You have no loyalty towards the guild, you just enjoy the fact that you get to kill people."
"We have our hobbies," Victor mocks. I grab my sword from the ground and take it out and point it toward Victor.
"Well my hobbies are different from yours," I say. Chris backs away as best he could as me and Victor stare each other; my barred teeth against his sadistic grin. And then we charge.
