Pen love and Pokemon - Chapter 1: A journey begins
#2 of Pen, love and Pokemon
Pen, love and Pokemon
A journey begins!
Zeke dropped his pen upon hearing the voice, unable to believe it.
"D-did you just speak? With me?" he stammered.
"Oh no, I was just talking with the wall. You know, wooden planks are really talkative."
The little Zorua giggled, followed by a quick jump onto Zeke's head. "Of course I was talking with you, silly." Facing towards Nancy it continued "This boy is even worse than you told me, are you sure he will be OK?"
Nancy sighed "Well, I told you he is a total mess, so it is up to you if he will be alright"
"Appreciated..." Zeke mumbled.
"Anyways, I'll take my leave now, so you can get to know each other. Just make sure to say good bye to your beloved aunt before you start your journey." She smiled, turning around to leave, but suddenly she stopped again.
"... Oh right, you will probably need this." She threw Zorua's Pokeball towards Zeke, who barely managed to catch it.
"And what about my door...?" Zeke desperately sighed, but his aunt already left without another word.
"So you really intend to go on a journey?" The voice in Zeke's head asked, after a few seconds of awkward silence.
"Well, I honestly never thought about that, but if Iget to see more amazing Pokemon like you... this doesn't actually sound too bad."
"Amazing... me?" the little fox blushed, feeling flattered for a second, before regaining its usual posture.
"Yes you're right, I really am amazing." it chuckled, jumping off Zeke's head and onto his bed.
"Now hurry up and pack your things, I can't await to get out of this hick town."
"Actually..." Zeke replied "... I'd like to finish my sketch of you first, just if you don't mind of course." He picked up his pen and waited for the little Pokemon to answer.
"Fine with me" it said, making itself comfortable on the bed.
"But how about you tell me something about yourself in exchange? Like how you ended up in this place and why you have a grizzly as your aunt."
Zeke sat down cross-legged, beginning the sketch. "Where should I start? ... Well, first of all, Nancy isn't really my aunt, but she raised me after finding me on her doorstep in a cold morning, 18 years ago."
"So you were abandoned by your parents?" Zorua lost its usual smile for the first time "That's cruel..."
"Not necessarily. Nancy told me there were quite a few natural catastrophes back in these days, followed by a long and harsh winter. Many people struggled for survival and they probably didn't have the possibilities to raise a child."
"I see..." the little fox took a deep breath "Do you have any clue who your parents are?"
"Well not really, the only thing they left behind with me was this..." he sighed, holding up the pen and looking at it with wet eyes.
"Wow, but that really isn't much..." Zorua felt a bit guilty for ruining the mood and muttered "I'm sorry for bringing this up."
"No problem" Zeke said, standing up and approaching the small Pokemon. "Mourning about the past won't change anything. I am alive, safe and sound, that's what's counting." With a gentle smile he started to stroke Zorua's fur.
"I'm finished drawing you, so how about we start packing now?"
"Sounds good to me" the fox Pokemon purred, smiling again. "I just want to ask a favor of you beforehand."
"Ask whatever you want" Zeke replied.
"Since we are going to spend much time together from now on, it would be nice to have a name" Zorua said. "Soooo..."
"... You want me to give you a name? It would be a honor" the human smiled.
"Let me think... how about... Tiffany?"
The Pokemon rolled on its back, laughing out loudly. "Don't tell me you still didn't realize I am male? Your aunt was right, you really are a mess"
Zeke's face turned red out of embarrassment "O-oh sorry, how about... let me think... hmmmm... maybe... Keir?"
"Keir? Keir... Keirrrrrrrrr" The Zorua rolled the 'r'. "That doesn't sound too bad, guess that's my new name then."
"I'm glad you like it, Keir. But now let's start packing, I don't want to stay here for another night, while I don't even have a door..."

A few minutes later however, Zeke, along with Keir, who was sitting on his head, found himself knocking at his aunt's door.
She opened the door and welcomed them with a smile "So you are going to leave I guess?"
"Well, about that..." Zeke smiled, scratching the back of his head "I fear I'm a bit short on some supplies"
"Some?" his aunt replied with a questioning face.
"Supplies like... you know, food, warm clothes, a bedroll..." he took in a deep breath before continuing " ... and money too."
"For short, we don't have anything usefull for a journey and need your help" Keir commented.
To his surprise however, Nancy just laughed "Took you longer than I expected to realize that"
That's when she grabbed something that was hidden behind the door.
As she offered it to Zeke, he gasped at the sight "Is this for me?"
"Sure it is" she answered, giving him a heavy backpack "It contains anything you could wish for on your journey, I even packed a spare sketchbook, just in case you run out of pages"
Zeke happily pulled his aunt close and hugged her.
"He really seems helpless without you, but hopefully I'll make sure he'll be fine" Keir giggled, but stopped as Nancy was smiling at him.
"I'm sure you can keep him safe, otherwise..." she came closer, her expression suddenly becoming fierce "I'll turn your fur into a nice little hat, you get me?"
The Pokemon gulped, but Nancy continued with a smile "So if everything's clear now, you should probably go, otherwise you won't reach the next town before its getting dark outside."
Without waiting for their reaction, she closed the door.
"She really is kinda... exzentrical, isn't she?" Keir suggested, his eyes still widened.
"If you think she was strange just now, you should see her if she is really agitated. Or better not, you'd just run away screaming, like I usually do, believe me" Zeke laughed.
"Somehow I fear you're right... Anyways, let's go."
And with those words, they both set off, the bright sun shining above them.

The chapter ended up a bit shorter than I expected, but I hope you still like it.
From the next chapter on, things will get a 'little bit' more serious, so stay tuned to see how things go for Zeke and Keir ;)
I hope you leave me some feedback in the comments =)
