#5 of Close Combat

Mimi curled up into a ball at the site of the lizard. Well at least she wasn't eaten thanks to Solaris. Once the lizard had for the most part disappeared. She hurried and stood by Sol's side. Nudging his face with her nose. She was worried he might be dead. Her ears lopped at the thought but quickly picked up. He was still warm which was good news for her.

She curled besides him using her tail as a pillow. She would keep a look out for a bit. Well he was too heavy for her to carry back to the tent. Surely a blast like that would bring some one the opponents along. Most would be smart and know better but there was always one or two out there was wanted to take there chances. She almost despised that giant lizard for ruining the moment. Well cuddling and snuggling is something people shouldn't do out in the open and in a deadly part of aria. It was inviting people to kill.

She noticed she still had his jacket. She took it off and placed it over him. Well she didn't know if he had enough energy to keep himself warm. She licked his cheek once before putting her focus back onto what was around as she curled up again. Well she was glad that she wasn't the lizard.

She heard no one for a minute. Maybe no one was coming. She looked back to Solaris and hoped he would get up "We should go to the tent. You'll be able to rest safely there" She didn't care about losing. She would rather be a loser then have a loved one die or badly hurt. Her ears where still on alert for anything that might be stupid enough to do something to her or Sol.

Solaris was awake, but he didn't even have the energy to open his eyes, much less talk. So he just lay there, breathing. He felt her lay his coat on him. And the rain was still pouring down. Every drop released a tiny bit of energy into the fox. Every breath brought in energy from the plants. He breathed deeply, as soon as he was able, and slowly feeling returned to his body. He managed a smile at her suggestion. "Safety...?" He croaked, amazed that he could talk at all. "I spend my....... Life out in the........ Wild with no friends........... And you think........ I need safety...?" Every few words were stopped by a deep breath. He looked at her, curled up defensively beside him. The muscles in his arms tingled, and he managed to sit up. "I'm fine, Mimi... Just very tired.... Let's get out of the open, shall we?" Though he said it, it took him several more minutes to regain enough energy to stand, and then he had to support himself against a tree. He half walked, half stumbled into the deep brush, leaving hardly a trace despite his weakness, and promptly callapsed near a tiny creek. A source of fresh water. A source of energy. He pulled himself to the water and dunked his muzzle in. No time for politeness. Every swallow gave him a little more energy, and by the time he was through he was ready to use another Burst. He rolled away from the water, laughing. "If I tried again, I'd die..." He said, sitting up and looking at mimi. She was so caring... Most people would have killed him off then and there, but she had actually offered to surrender, to give up the Battle, to help him. He smiled. "How could anyone hurt her...?" He wondered aloud.

Mimi followed him once he had gotten up. Padding right next to him just incase he needed help walking. She kept watch while he was getting his drink. She would have probably left him if this had happened a couple of hours ago. When she didn't give a hoot about what could happen to his sorry tail.

Her eyes landed at the bush he had stumbled though, it looked good for hiding. She sniffed the air but it seemed no one else was around, well near by. "I'll be right back..." She said and quickly went to cheek out that bush. Just to make quick sweep and make sure nothing that was harmful was around. She make her way though and had a quick look around. Just a few harmless spiders.

Once she finished making sure it was good she hurried back to Solairs. Well nothing attacked him which was good news. Curled up besides him somewhat relaxed but her ears were up listening for any movement. Hopefully the announcements would go off soon.

Her ears picked up something after a minute. It seemed like someone was trying to quiet and make a surprise attack. She quickly stood up and following the noise. It was a human that probably heard or saw what Sol did. She was still able to see Sol but she was to busy getting rid of the human. She had jumped him from behind and broke his neck with her front paws. Once it was all said and done she dragged the body away. She went 30 yards before leaving the body. It was far enough to were the smell wouldn't bother them.

She quickly went back to the other fax not wanting to be gone for to long.

Sol Had heard the man, but mimi had gone off to investigate. He was about to get up to check on her when she came back. He smiled at her and lay on his back, his right hand tingling. He looked at it, and saw that whisps of energy clung to his hand. He shook it, and the tingling stopped. He looked back to mimi, wondering if she really did like him, or if she was just trying to push buttons. Eh, it didn't really matter. She was still with him and that was all that mattered. He smiled and looked at the sky, no longer noticing the rain drops hitting his eyes. He zoned out, eyes losin focus. His breathing deepened, as if in a dream.

When he finally came out of it dawn was breaking. Standing, he stretched and walked out into the open. He immediatly wished he hadn't. Eight or nine humans jumped him from all directions. For a second the fox was pinned to the ground. Then he was out, moving. Spinning aroundhe drew his guns, bringing them up to fire. But apparently these people knew how to fight. His guns were sent spinning, with the owner following. Skidding to a stop, the gold fox looked up. His eyes glazed over, rays of light enwrapping him. But his was different from last time. This time he had no control. He moved instantly, afterimages following him. He pounded into the first human he reached, his fist ripping through the man's body.Without so much as a moment to stop and think, the fox ripped the man in half and swung his leg around, slamming it into another man's head. Though there wasn't much damage where he'd kicked, the opposite side of the head exploded outward. Drawing his combat knife from it's sheath, the fox blocked two slashes from someone who apparently didn't care about rules and had a katana. Two return slashes cut open the man's major arteries.

On the second stroke, the fox spun in a circle, beheading the man. With a quick stab a fourth member of the group fell. Four left. Rushing foreward, Sol drove his knife into a man's skull, pulling out and kicking the body into is friends. Snearing, the fox threw his knife point-down into the ground beside him and raised his arms. Under each palm an orb formed, both tripling in size and dwarfing the one he'd used first. With an evil grin, Sol slammed them together, fusing them together, and released it. The orb hit the group, and instead of expanding, the orb exploded. Energy whiplashed everywhere, striking the fox and throwing him through three trees and into the creek. Sol's eyes unglazed, then closed as he blacked out. Even with the power boost, all that energy used had wiped him out.

Mimi was never much of a body guard. Well she couldn't stay awake for the job. She had fallen asleep an hour after Solaris did, cuddled up besides him. Well they weren't attacked during the nap so that was a good thing.

Her ears picked up when Solaris had gotten up. She half opened one eye and watching him walk away Probably taking care of some busyness She yawned and closed her eye again. She was slowly waking up just with her eyes closed. After a few seconds stood up and brushed her fur a bit. Her ears picked up as she looked towards the direction Sol had gone. Maybe he's sick... She thought but after a while she heard others. She took a paw step towards his direction before someone came up from behind.

Mimi turned around and saw a man with a gun pointed right at her "Ya should know that cheating is da only way to win." She smirked and a gun fire followed afterwards. Mimi managed to get out of the way. Well she was quick for a fox. She bolted for the man and punched him in the gut. That was followed by another gun fire, which had missed. Well the gun wasn't even pointed at Mimi.

Mimi grabbed the mans wrist and twisted it. The man dropped the gun as she continued to twisting it to the right until he was on the ground, crying like a baby. She broke the mans arm with a palm strike with her other paw. Then followed up with an axe kick to the neck. She saw that Sol was in the creek. Padded over to him and pulled him out. Once she got him out of the after and announcement went off.

"It's been 36 hours! For the next ten minutes you guys are not allowed to fight! We have had 47 people enter. 42 are dead, 2 have left, 3 are standing. Good luck!" Mimi let out a sigh. Three left, now finding them would be a problem and anyone who lasted this long had to be good. She got onto furs and snuggled Solairs a bit before curling up besides him once more.

Solaris didn't hear the announcement. He didn't know he been pulled from the creek. He was out like a light.

The fox leapt through a shattered doorway, eyes wide and fear-filled. What was going on?! Quickly the tiny Solaris took off into the forest, away from the uilding behind him, away from the gunfire.

The fox groaned as he came too. He was in the middle of a well-rutted road, and every inch of him hurt from his long, hard, fast run. He sat up, mewling pitifully while rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Looking around, the fox saw a tree with red fruit on it. Quickly he scurried to the tree and began climbing. He pounced on the nearest fruit, and let out a shriek as he fell. He clutched the fruit, eyes wide as he plummeted down. Luckily the grass was thick and fluffy, and the fox cub's landing wasn't nearly as bad as he'd thought it would be. The fox bit into the fruit, and squealed in delight at the flavor that rushed over his tongue. It wan't anything like the dry, tasteless food he'd been fed... Where? The pup could barely remember his escape earlier that morning, much less the food he could only eat weekly. The miniature Sol yanked off a chunk of the fruit and swollowed it, then took another, and another. He didn't even notice the sound of a cart rolling up until they grabbed his neck and lifted him up. He squealed and bit down on the hand holding him. He was immediatly thrown into the cart, yelping in pain as he slammed into the side of it.

Solaris groaned as he came to, lifting his head and looking around. The trees shifted and the light hit his eyes. He yelped and ducked down, temporarily blinded. "What the hell happened?" he asked when he remembered how to talk.

Mimi lifted her head and looked over to him. She was still curled up besides him. Her ears picked up as she licked his cheek. "Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed" She smirked nibbling on his ear a bit before answering his question. "I think you were attacked." She told him, nuzzling his shoulder. She had been busy herself she didn't see what happened to sol earlier.

It was good to see him awake. She seemed to warm up to him a bit more. She went back to nibbling on his ear a bit, pulling it every now and then. Well it had been an hour since the announcements and Mimi was feeling good, two competitors left mean she was guaranteed something. She rested her head on her front paws still chewing on his ear.

Her ears relaxed a bit. She wondered were the last two were. If they were near by or far away. "So did you have a bad dream...?" She muttered sounding as clear as possible while she continued to nibble on his ear. Luckily Mimi didn't fall asleep while he had been.

Sol groaned again. Shit! He remembered being attacked, losing his guns, and being thrown, but everything after that was a blank. He held his head in his hands for a few minutes. "I feel like I got blown through a tree..." He groaned. He sighed and pulled some herbs from his pack. He went for his knife but only found air. "Where's my knife?" He wondered aloud, standing and walking into the clearing. He froze, seeing the deep trough from his super burst and the huge blast crater. "Holy shit..." He muttered, looking for his knife. He finally found it right at the start of the trough, and cleaned it off before cutting the herb in half and eating one half, putting the other away. Then he went off in search of his guns. It took him about ten minutes to find them, because one of the people he killed was laying on them. He holstered them, glad that there was no blood on them. Then he turned and walked back to Mimi. He sat down next to her, offering his ear and nibbling on the tip of hers. He thought over what he knew had happened. He had gone into the clearing to do.. Something, and had been ambushed. "Second time in 24 hours..." he muttered. He lost his guns, then... Blank-O! Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada. Nil. Next think he knew he was waking up beside Mimi with a splitting headache and no memory of anything that had occured before.

"What a great day." He said darkly.

Mimi was glad he came back. She murred lightly as she noticed him nibbling on her ear. She saw his ear and started to nibble his ear, tugging on it from time to time. She wrapped her tail around him. She wasn't paying much attention to what was around. To busy wondering if he would make a good mate.

She smirked as she pulled her ear away from him and rolled over to her back. Giving his ear one last tug before it was no longer in reach. Her tail was still wrapped around him. She rolled over again onto fours. She smiled and padded back over to him. She started to lick his ear. Well he was a mess, just as well clean him up a bit.

Once she had cleaned the fur on his ear she pushed him gentility with her front paws then ran off with a playful yip but was going slow enough for him to catch up. She was just being playful and wanted to see if he would follow or not. She quickly climbed up a tree then down looking back.

Sol smiled when she ran off, and followed her, also on all four. He started to follow her up the tree, but seeing as she ran right back down again he took a shortcut and walked around the tree. He yipped and pounced on her, rolling a few feet before falling into the creek. "Gah! Just my luck..." He muttered, climbing out and taking off his jacket. Throwing it to where they'd been, he shook himself off and smiled at mimi. "Takes more than a bit of water to stop me." He said, fluffing out his fur to look a bit bigger. Then he jumped into the air, grabbing a low limb and flipping onto it. "It's a twist, but try to folow me!" Then he dissappeared into the branches, climbing like an expert. He was, actually. Well, years of sleeping in trees to keep from getting eaten made one very nimble. He swung up to the highest limb and looked down. His heart nearly stopped. The lizard had made quite the trail, but it was the shape of the trail, and the fact they were right in the middle of it, that made him smile, then start laughing. He laughed so hard he fell backwards out out of the tree and barely caught himself on the lastlimb. And he was still laughing. When he regained a little composure he climbed up again and looked at the trail again. He sighed, smiling. "We're in the 'heart' of the forest allright..." He said, looking around them. The trail made a huge heart around them.

Mimi shook her pelt dry before she followed him up the tree. She wasn't as fast a climber mainly because she didn't need to worry about sleeping outside often. She had a roof over her head and the only thing she had to worry about where kids petting her tail. She was almost up to the top when he fell. She gasped jumping down from branch to branch. She stopped and thought he was laughing, but what was funny about falling.

She let out a sigh; at least he didn't hurt himself. She went back to climbing the tree seeing he was heading back up. She looked around wondering what was so funny. She noticed the trail but she didn't notice the shape yet.

It took her a second to see what it was. She looked over to Solaris and smiled wrapping her tail around him. "I guess your right" She said and for a second she forgot she was even in the Battle Royal. She licked his cheek. Maybe it was a sign or just dumb luck.

Mimi grinned and made her way down the tree. Once she was back on the ground she grabbed his jacket with her muzzle and ran off. Running fast enough to make some distance. She looked back to see if he was following her. She didn't see him yet, well she was running faster then she thought. She looked back to what was in front of her. Well she saw something that she didn't expect to see. A man with black wings and cat like eyes grabbed her by the neck picking her up them slamming Mimi to the ground. Mimi yelps in pain hoping Sol could hear her.

Well it seemed like the winged man wasn't finished with her yet. He stomped on her stomach then picked her up again and threw her against a tree. With every hit another painful yelp. She fell to the ground. She forced herself to get back up but the man just kicked her until she was back lying on the ground. Mimi continued to yelp but stopped after the fifth. She was just lying there limp, no movement what so ever.

Solaris was taking his time, and was only half way down when he heard her yelp. "Screw this!" He growled almost immediatly, running along the branch and jumping off. He landed and rolled to disperse the energy of the landing, then stood and raced after mimi. When he got there she was just laying there, limp. His eyes started to glaze over as light surrounded him, but he forced himself to stay in control. Energy crackled around him. He was angrier than he'd ever been in his life, and it was all centered on the man in front of him. An orb formed in his hand, about the same size as his first on, and it streaked towards the man. As it neared him, Sol went superspeed, attacking the man from all sides with almost animalistic ferocity. Then he jumped back as the orb impacted... Or so he thought. But the man had jumped at the last minute.

"Wings or no wings you're going down!" Sol roared, jumping up beside him and dropkicking him towards the ground. He saved himself at the last moment by spreading his wings. Sol landed on his back and punched him. Hard. Very hard. The man grunted and rolled, throwing Sol against a tree. Already an orb was formed in his hand, and just before he impacted the tree he fired it at him. "You think you're better than me?" He growled, standing slowly. Now his eyes glazed over, and his voice became harsh, evil. "You truly think you can get away with this?!" He slid the knife from it's scabbard on his belt and rushed the man, knife up, blade glinting. "I'LL KILL YOU!"

Mimi remained there, she still wasn't moving. Well the winged man had put a beating on her. Her collar bone was broken and the left side of her ribs where fractured or broken. Well it wouldn't be a first for Mimi. Breaking something was normal for her. Well she was still alive, though not for long.

The winged man only showed fear in his eyes. His wings where still working. He looked up to see if there was an opening but there were too many branches. "Yea, I think I just got away with it." The man hissed flapping his wing forcing a blast of air to his Mimi. cuts appeared along Mimi's back. "She looks dead to me." She man smirked knowing that he had taken another even if he died. Well he was hoping to get his attention on that foolish vixen. That would give him time to run away. Mimi didn't even flinch from the attack.

I don't want to die she thought weakly. Her broken ribs were making it impossible to breath. Along with that her lungs were filling with blood which only made things worst. She still holding onto Sol's jacked oddly enough.

Sol stood still for a second. Then he sneared, the light around him taking a semi-solid form on his back. "You're not gonna live long enough to regret that." He said. The light had taken the shape of golden wings. "DIE!" He growled before dissappearing entirely. Seconds later his claws ripped through the man's neck. Four hard slashes, and he was gone. Sol's power didn't go, however. There was still need for it. He appeared next to mimi, his wings fading. "Don't you dare die." He growled, putting a hand on her back. He felt her warm blood and his anger flared. But he concentrated on his magic. He felt it flowing into his hand, and he pushed it into her. "Healing Rays..." He muttered, and the magic in his hand took form, slowly moving out and enwrapping her, almost like how a mummy looks, only with gold light, not white cotton. He knew it wouldn't drain him very much, if any. But even if he used all his magic up, it would be worth it. He concentrated on keeping her from dying. Soon the light faded, leaving her with a fixed lung and back. He took his jacket from her and wrapped her in it, zipping it up. Then he picked her up and carried her to the tent. "I'm sorry..." He whispered in her ear. "I should have been there to protect you..." He walked inside and took her out of the compitition. Then he left, amazing the judges by shooting right past one if them when they tried to decline the checkout. Then he left, on his way to safety.
