High Tail High Chapter 3: New Love
High Tail High Chapter Three: New Love
- * * Pain. It often comes in tides, from physical to mental to emotional or any other forms. Sometimes it's good, enhances...certain things in a furson's life. Others it's what brings them to the brink of questioning why we live. Why we deal with it every day. They say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I say, it can cripple whats left of you. But it'll change, it comes with life and death. The balance flows once more in our world. So if this is true, where is our share of health? There's too much hurt going on now, for alot of caring couples who don't deserve it. This is just another example of how the world turns... David sat alone in his room, paws in his head as he stared down at the floor. Wednesday was often bad for him, but today was really off. That weird feeling came back to him. His chest felt hot and he could swear he was blushing. It had to be obvious by the way he made a mad dash for the exit [being careful of any random tails to trip on as well]. Each time seemed to get worse, and he could never find out what was with him. "David, dinner!" "Ho-..." He scratched his throat, "Ok mom!" Another night of neverending questions from Burda. She had, at one point in the rambling, mentioned a book club. Mike just ignored most of it and ate silent as ever with David. The two finished up and sat the plates before leaving Burda to swollow what she vented onto them. David often went to his room and Mike to the tv to watch the games, but tonight David decided to read the next chapter of his English. The two lovers in the book were against most odds, being from two differant families and end up dying. A classic sad romance story, which intrigued the ferret since he usually liked horror stories. But then he started to think about Mark. How the red wolf didn't even know David, but stood up for him. It was a relief that Chad backed down, but wouldn't that mean he would just target him more now that he was protected? "Fuuhhh-..." He murmured to himself, paws thrown up to his head and grasping the light fur. Sweet unconsiousness came an hour or so later, poor David worried himself to sleep yet again. The annoying alarm clock quickly beat out his fuzzy dreams about rain with it's pattering sound into his ear. He reacted cooly by smashing it into the wall with a fumbling paw and streaching in bed. "The damn thing scares me!" He said to Mike, who chuckled and flipped up his newspaper. "David, what have I said about swearing?" Burda asked, rubbing the dishes dry from last night. "That they're...bad?" He blinked, downing the rest of his cereal and dropping the bowel into the sink. "Yes! Now go get ready for school." She said a bit irritatedly, shooing him away with her washcloth. "I seriously don't know how he puts up with her!" David squeeked, walking to his fourth period class with John. "Maybe he's cheating on her." The bear smirked playfully, which David smiled to. "STRONG possibility there. I wouldn't blame him." Chemistry was often hard and confusing, but luckily he had help from his lab partner and friend Luna to help. She often scoffed at the ignorance of some less-than-average populars. David personally enjoyed when the teacher, Mrs. Loving, showed how pissed off at the students she was. Today was no differant, a few furs got on her nerves about sleeping during notes. "I don't know why people sleep here, they just go to the nurse." David mumbled. Luna smirked a little and laid her head down. David blinked, gasping dramatically. "N-no! Luna! Don't die on me! I need the answer to number three!" "I'm sorry David...gah." And gah she did, placing her head in her arms and giggling. David just stared silently at her for a second. "...teacher? My lab partner's dead." He changed his voice to fit the teachers, "Go get a new one. In the closet." Luna bursted into a fit of giggles before returning back to their lab. Fifth period came, David started to actually look forward to the long boring lectures of Business Foundations just so he could talk to the cheetah, Jaden. David smiled, leaning over and whispering, "Heh, how you holding up Jaden?" Jaden took a quick glance at David, blushing for a moment before turning back away again, "I-I'm fine. Why... Why do you ask?" The ferret blinked, shrugging a little. "Just thought I could get a second opinion." Jaden twiddled his finger-paws and managed a hollow smile, "I'm fine, nothings wrong... Just trying to listen and learn... Just learning." He mumbled a little. He smiled a little bit and chuckled, "You're edgy again, Jaden. Down a whole cup of coffee ag-" "BOYS! Pay attention!" The massive rhino snapped at the two. David winced and shut his moth, both paws reactively intwining with each other. "S-sorry sir." They both muttered. Jaden and David walked along the hallways after school until they had to meet at their 'crossings', where David had to meet with Luna and Jaden to the buses. Both furs waved goodbye before turning to their respective places. Before David reached the staircase, however, he was stopped by Mark who jestured him to the side. Between last he talked to Mark and now, they rarely talked. Mostly because Mark was a year older and had differant classes. The big red wolf smiled and scooped up his bag. "What's up, Dave?" "Nothing really. Just got back from Chemistry." Mark grinned a little. "I'm pretty good at that." "Really? And they say jocks are dumbasses." The ferret was suddenly in a headlock, chuckling as his blonde headfur was ruffled. "So says blondy!" "Gah! D-don't make me bite you! Heheheh!" Mark let go and wiped his arms a little as David craned his neck to make it pop. "Yeah, Chemistry..." "Need a tutor?" David tilted his head in confusion. Yeah, usually he wasn't the smartest kid. He averaged a C in anything, but to get a tutor seemed a little like he needed help. But, he could adventure out why he felt these weird feelings for Mark. "Sure. I need the help, I guess..." Mark smiled and said they could meet over at his house Friday night. It evened out with David, he could study for the next test and get to know the mysterious older jock wolf. Checking his watch, he made a mad dash for the buses and headed home. Friday came quicker then usual for David, in fact it was like none of the other days counted. Thursday he explained to Luna and the others he was talking to Mark and lost track of time. Now he sat on his bed listening to his favorite band on the mp3. Quickly glancing up to the clock, David lept up and shut it off. "Shit! Almost forgot about Mark. Heh..." He grabbed his fleece and picked up his overnight bag before stumbling down the stairs to Mike. "H-hey, ready?" The wolf looked up, "Heh, I am. I don't think YOU are, though." David looked down to see his fleece was on backwords, making the older wolf chuckle heavily. "Aww, comon Mike...I was in a hurry!" "Yeah yeah, fix that up and lets go." The wolf ambled off the couch and put the newspaper away before taking David to the house. Mark's place was overall better then average, having two floors and a lavish backyard to roam around in. Pool and hotub included. As David's blue-green eyes washed over the house, Mark was inside watching the news a bit idly. Nothing ever happened in town, so he got news from other towns. David went up to the steps and pressed the doorbell, and a few minutes later was inside the well-lit house. "Upstairs is our guest room." Mark said, waving a big red paw around. The ferret felt his heart start to throb with that unframiliar feeling, but he choked it down when Mark turned down to look at him in a confused way. "Something wrong?" "H-huh? No! I'm just, wow...nice house dude." He chuckled a little, smiling pathetically at his lame excuse of a lie. "Ok...um, well we can study here, my parents are away for the weekend. Want pizza for dinner?" "Sounds good!" He placed his bag down next to the leather brown sofa and sat down as the wolf called in Luigi's for two medium pizzas. It would be thirty minutes or less, which in that time the two set up David's Wii and studied just a little for his Chemistry. "Heh, wanna scare the pizza guy?" David pirked a brow curiously, "How?" Mark chuckled and stood up. Peeking curiousity, David followed him. In the closet of the top of the house was two big smog vents, all they needed was water and electricity. "Plug one in on the other side of the house..." The ferret grinned, seeing the idea work it's action as he did such. No more then five minutes later, the car with Luigi's logo on top huffed to a stop in front of the house and the pizza guy got out of the car. Both boys stood by the door, and just as the fur took a step onto the porch both jumped out howling 'fire, fire!!' Smoke filled out with them and above making it look like the house was actually going to burn with them. Surprised, the pizza fur jumped, dropping the pizza boxes and running onto the lawn. Mark and David chuckled as the confused fur blinked at them. David walked back inside and turned off the machines as Mark explained their prank. He got a small laugh out of the shaken fur before paying him the money and tip. "The pizza would have been better if it wasn't dropped so carelessly onto my lawn..." Mark said with a smug grin, taking his fifth slice out of the box. David only nodded as he was on his third. "So, yeah. We have another game tommorrow...do...you wanna come?" It was stranger then normal. Like, bizzaro world strange. His heart was heavy and hot, and he could swear Mark was acting shy. "Sounds good...when tomorrow?" "About two pm...I could drive you there if you don't wanna ask your father." He would, on a normal occasion, correct him about Mike not being his real dad but in this case, he didn't mind. Mike was actually much cooler then some dad's, from what David saw. "That works! I'll call him in the morning to tell him." "Yeah...so, where where we?" Mark asked, picking up David's text book...to hide his blush. ~Author Note~ So, yeah. Next chapter starts off with these weird feelings, and hopefully brings out the better of the story. Comments, suggestions, yahta yahta...I'm hoping to get to seven chapters. Four will be out before Friday -hopefully-. XOXO ~ Breeze
