Chapter #7
Memories of friendship
My eyes opened to a sudden knock on my door. I turned to look at my door with my claw on the hilt of my sword that was sheathed on my back. Chuckling at my reaction, I took my claw off the sword and walked to the door, opening it with a smile to see Winter Breeze standing in the doorway. "Why hello there my' dear Winter Breeze. How may I be of service to you?" "what? Service to me? no, no, no. I am of service to you Prince Sanrose Dreagneos." I chuckled and shook my head at the way she named me. "Might I ask of you to just call me by my first name, Sanrose, please?" with a nod she bowed slightly with a, "Yes, Prince-" "Ah, ah, ah. Just, Sanrose, Please." She again nodded and repeated, "Yes, Pr-, I mean, Sanrose." I smiled as she finally said my name the way I wanted.
"So, what can I do for you Winter Breeze?" I said as I let my tail sway back and forth slowly. "Well Sanrose... The Princesses have sent me for you to make sure you are ready for tonight's dinner, with the wielders of the elements of harmony." "The Elements of Harmony? May I ask what those are?" I asked with my head tilted slightly in curiosity. Winter Breeze nodded and continued, "The Element s of harmony are the elements in which we all stand by, to keep peace in the land here in Equestria. They are also what we use to enforce the peace in the land as well, just like when Discord escaped." "Discord?" she sighed and looked to me like she was getting annoyed. chuckling, i lifted my arms in defense, "I just wish to know my' dear, I am sorry." I said with a shrug. She smiled softly and shook her head, "Oh no, it's quite alright Sanrose, but we must hurry, maybe I shall schedule a time for you to attend a history lesson?" I thought for a moment and agreed. "Indeed, that would be a good idea. I would love to learn more about this place."
"Now, I must ask, do you wish to change your clothing or will you be dining in your current attire?" Winter Breeze asked me. "Well..." I looked around and towards the closet in the corner. It had an assortment of different clothing but all of them being obviously very much too small. "I don't have any other clothing at the moment, so I suppose I shall go just as is." She nodded and turned away from me while motioning for me to follow. "This way sir."
We walked down the hall, having bits of small talk along the way as guards bowed slightly to me. Honestly, I felt embarrassed. I haven't been treated like royalty for hundreds of years. I always never liked being treated like I am better than everyone. But I have to say... it was nice to finally feel respected instead of hated. While we walked I started to think to myself, remembering the times when I was with my father as we did royal attending in the Gizorad kingdom. A smile formed on my lips as I remembered a moment that happened while I was back in Gizorad with my longtime friend, Soren Jamillo Lennon.
Soren was a brown Anthro Fox, standing at about 5'6, with green eyes. He was the shortest of my old group of friends, but he was a great fighter and was also very protective of his friends and family. Of course this made perfect sense why he was Captain on the royal guard. Just before a royal speech, Soren and I met up for lunch so we could have some time with each other while I was in town. Luckily we had a while before we were needed to be at the royal speech so after lunch, we tested each other's skills in a playful battle between one another.
"Oh come now Sanrose, you really think you can take me?" Soren argued playfully. We both knew I could easily beat him, but that never stopped him from a playful challenge. We walked to an open grass area near the eatery and drew our blades. He chuckled and got into his fighting stance. "Alright, no killing each other, and no cheap sho-" I began to say before I was kicked right in my testicles by a quick furred foot. "OOOH Damn you!" I yelled out in pain as i let my body fall to the ground. He just laughed and hopped a little in his stance with his sword out. "Aww I'm just making things even." He said with a chuckle. "Now come you big blue lizard, is time to dance now, no?" I stood up shakily, massaging my crotch. "Alright, now you're just asking for it."
After some stretches to try to comfort the still small bit of pain in my crotch, I finally got into my stance. "Okay, again, no CheeeeEEEeeeap SHOTS!" I again explained but dodged another fast flying foot. "EEIIH! Sorrrren?" He just chuckled and shook his head, "Alright, alright, no cheap. Fair play." I smiled and nodded, getting into my stance again. We stared at each other for a while because both of our fighting styles were similar, quick to defend and slow to attack. Finally I struck first.
I brought my large sword down at Soren and he jumped back, defending himself with his sword causing our blades to strike together. "There we are!" he yelled, pushing into my blade with his, making a few sparks fall. "Come on!" he shouted pushing me back, causing me to take a few steps back. He then attacked me this time, lunging in with his blade. I quickly side stepped, took another step towards him and pushed him with my shoulder into his, knocking him down to the ground. Soren quickly rolled onto his back with his chest up, bringing his sword up to defend himself from the ground. I smiled and chuckled down to my friend. "Aww what's the matter lil' pup? Time for a nap?" I taunted him playfully.
Soren smiled and rolled backwards before springing forward and jumping up onto his feet like a ninja. "Oh just a little one, now it's time to actually play." He said pulling his second sword from its sheath. He held this one backwards on his left arm as a defensive style while his right one was straight out like normal. "There we go! Time for some real fun!" I said rolling my neck and twisting my sword around to match his defensive sword. Slowly, we circled around each other, with our eyes locked onto one another.
As we stared each other down, we failed to notice a small crowd had gathered around us, watching the prince of the dragons and their beloved captain of the guard fight one another. Some were quietly casting bets to another as to whom would win as others just stood and watched. Soren Finally attacked first this time, lunging with his blade out as I deflected his blade with mine, counterattacking with a jab of my left fisted claw, but him deflecting my claw with his arm guard on his wrist.
Soon, jabs and slashes were flying back and forth from another, each of us never stopping our momentum. At different moments, one of us would duck down or jump over an attack. Some of our movements were blurs to the ones watching us. One attack Soren did cause me to take a low step backwards, dropping my body backwards with my blade up. I grabbed the handle at the front end of the sword, using it to spin the blade around on top of me and hitting Soren's shin guard with the hilt of my sword, knocking his paws out from under him.
Soren fell to the ground with a loud "YIP!" noise, so I rolled up on top of him and put my sharp claw to his throat. "Death!" we looked into each other's eyes in confusion as to why we both yelled the death call. That is when I felt a cold steel blade at my throat and smiled. I looked down to it and he looked down to his throat to see my sharpest claw, (where if I actually was fighting, would have a knuckle blade) right to the artery of his neck. We both looked at each other and smiled. "Tie?" we said together before we both nodded. "Tie."
I rolled took my claw away as he lowered his sword. "Wow, a real full blown tie." I said shaking my head while standing up off of him. Holding my claw out to open to help him up, Soren smiled and took my claw with his paw with a "thanks." We stood up and heard a Clock tower bell ring in the city. "What do you know, great timing" "Indeed." We stopped and looked around when we finally noticed the crowd that had gathered around us, some confused and some sighing in defeat for their loss.
However, noises in the back sounded familiar as they were collecting money from a bet. It, happened to be the two Leaders of each of our kingdoms. My father, Clefspear, The Dragon king, and the current lord of the city and outlaying area of Gizorad, Glenikose. They both had bet the others that we would get a tie. And they were laughing softly with one another. "You know, you two are funny. Best of friends, but yet the biggest of enemies. always trying to win each other in battle." "Oh, it's just a little friendly fun father. You know that." I said to the dragon king. He chuckled and shook his head. "Indeed. You remind me of myself in many of ways." He said bringing a claw up and messing with my hair. "Except for this madness here." "Oh father. You know we both like my hair." He nodded. "Indeed. It reminds me of your mother every time I see it. Only she had that fur ontop of the head, ah, do i miss her beauty."
I turned to see that Soren was down on a knee, bowing down to the leaders. "I gave a small bow to the leader of Gizorad, an older avian (barn) owl whom had a smile. Old and wise, he was a wonderful leader and many people from many other lands respected him due to his friendliness. Occasionally he would walk among the streets of the great city of Gizorad, just because he wanted to be with his people. "Good morning Glenikose. How has your morning been?" Soren greeted his leader. "Why good morning dear Captain." Glenikose said to the foxen warrior. "I am doing wonderful today thank you. And how might you be today?" Soren kept his head low and responded to the owl. "I am quite well my' lord. Thank you."
Glenikose smiled and tapped the foxen's shoulder. Soren looked up to the owl in curiosity. Glenikose chuckles softly and motioned for the fox to stand. "So humble and respectful, and exceptionally trustworthy." Glenikose spoke to Soren. "My most trusted Warrior. And my best captain." "I am your only captain my' lord." Soren reminded him. Glenikose chuckled and placed a wing on Soren's shoulder. "That is because I cannot trust anyone as much as I may trust you for my security." Noticing that Soren had a small blush on his cheeks, chuckled and placed a hand on his other shoulder. Although he was indeed older than I for a number of years, we were the best of friends, and respected each other as equals.
"And, for being such a great friend to many, and an amazing ambassador to the dragon people for the furs, we need you to sit with us during the speech this afternoon." My father spoke. He looked to us with a surprised look. "Really? You wish my attendance in your company?" We all nodded to the fox and he smiled. "Then I shall be there by your sides. Allow me to let the guards know and to arrange the orders to fit my absence. Excuse me great ones." He said we a bow. We all bowed in return and he turned to leave. "I thought I told you to stop calling me a great one!" I teased him on his way away. "I thought I told you to watch for my cheap shots every now and then!" he teased me back. "We all just chuckled and shook our friends. "He is going to love the gift we are going to announce to the people this afternoon." Clefspear spoke. Glenikose nodded and turned to us.
"Indeed. He will. That Fox has been very kind to everyone, and has kept order in this city in a most amazing way. There is no way I could be out like this if it wasn't for him. And his humility towards it all is very impressive. He does so much and takes nothing for thanks." I nodded softly and thought for a moment when a smile spread through my lips. Remembering the times I tried to give him something yet he wouldn't take it. And I have seen his home many times. The lowest class part of the town, and in the not greatest home. He lives alone except for the occasional fur he lends his best room for every now and then.
"Sanrose? Sanrose!? HEY!!!" shaking my head I looked around to see winter breeze waving a hoof in my face. "Sanrose, are you alright?" I nodded and smiled. "Indeed. I am fine, just, remembering a memory from long ago." I looked down to the mare with a smile. "Friends can leave forever long impressions and memories in one." Winter breeze nodded with a smile. "Indeed, they can." She then turned to face a large white wooden door. "Are you ready for dinner sire?" with a smile, I nodded and she opened the door to allow me to go inside. 'time to meet some new friends.'
