#3 of Life as a Werewolf Series

story about a teen werewolf girl^^

The next day, though, when they arrived from the airport, Amy and I had the weirdest discussion. I was sitting on my bed, as Amy unpacked, still disturbed by the night before. Well anyway, our conversation began like this.

"So, how ya feel?" asked Amy.

"Om, fine, why?" I lied, stomach churning.

"Just wondering..." she said strangely, like she wasn't satisfied with my answer. "So...um, did you...have any strange experiences lately?" What kind of question was that? Maybe I should tell her...yeah. I should. I sat up in my bed.

"You wouldn't believe what happened to me the other day."

"Tell me!" she barked. "When?" I stared at her for a moment at her strange excitement.

"Om...last night."

"What happened?" I rolled my eyes.

"Ok, I was in the woods to get this thing for my dad when I saw this huge...wolf." Amy muttered something. I cocked my head to the side. "Sorry. Continue."

"Ok..." I said slowly, and then continued. "So there was this wolf the size of a small car. I mean huge! It was a wolf...I think. But it had, like, hands..." I stopped awkwardly then shook my head and laughed. "I was probably imagining it." Amy shook her head.

"Sadie," she began, and I instantly knew she was about to ramble on about God knows what. "It is your time to behold your destiny. Are you ready for me to behold your destiny?"

I stared at her with my mouth open slightly. She was seriously crazy. "Om...sure." Amy stood up and walked to the window, watching the snow fall outside. "I'm here...for a very important reason. Other than the fact that you're my family and that it is a tradition to be here, I am here for...other reasons." I waited for her to continue. "I'm here to announce that your fate has been picked for you. A big part of your fate, I should say. To all the questions I am about to ask you, answer just yes or no.

"Your attitude has changed, am I right?"

I looked down at myself and across the room to my huge mirror. I didn't know what was going on, but Amy's seriousness and the incident that happened in the forest last night told me this was important. "Yes." "Your appearance has changed?"

"Duh."

"Don't be smart."

"Sorry."

"Do you feel the same?"

"This is stupid," I said suddenly. "What the hell is this about?"

She looked taken aback at first, and then she laughed. "Ok. It is true then."

"What is?"

Her smile disappeared. "I know this is...different for you. Way passed different, but you'll fall into the routine and new lifestyle. Soon you'll wonder how you could live without this." She looked over me. "Sadie...you have become the night. A shadow creature most feared, but also most beautiful and intelligent of all creatures too." I stared. My mind was blank.

"What is that supposed to mean?" I wondered aloud.

"You're to become a werewolf." Somehow I was instantly on my feet. "Whoa, now wait a second. You sounded convincing at first but...this is ridiculous! I don't, I don't...I don't even know what that is!"

"You got bit by one," she said bitterly. "In the forest last night. That was a werewolf." Well, that explained the hands-no. This was stupid. Werewolves aren't real.

"That kinda thing...it isn't real," I said quietly.

She grabbed my hand. "Come with me." She opened the window. Was she insane? Amy dropped out of sight. My house was two stories high. I looked down. She was gesturing for me to follow her. I shook my head no. "It won't hurt," she said, and began walking off.

"Wait!" I called. I slipped out of the window. I didn't even notice I hit the ground.

"Whoa," I muttered. "Can everyone do that?" She shook her head no and smiled. I followed her into the woods, not afraid. We walked until we reached a small opening in the trees.

"You see," Amy began, turning and facing me. "Strange, mysterious things can be hidden inside anyone. Even your best friend could possibly be inhuman." Well Bree was kinda...what was I thinking? Suddenly Amy's body began to swirl strangely, and in her place was a beautiful wolf. She threw her head back and howled. Musical, not retched. The wolf's howl died slowly. She looked at me.

"Even your relatives could be something...you're totally unaware of." The wolf that was in Amy's place didn't move its mouth when Amy talked. But if it wasn't my cousin, than who was it? "And...and this is what I'm gonna be?"

"Sadly...no. It's not going to be near as easy."

* * *

I woke up in my bed. Mom was sitting next to me.

"Amy says you didn't feel good and you fell asleep," she said. Yep, right after she told me I was a demented wolf! Now Amy was lying to my mom. Things were already bad enough. I looked over at Amy with my mouth open. She looked away from me. I looked back at mom. "What?"

"Nothing," said Mom and left. Amy glared at me when I looked back at her.

"Ok, Amy, what it going on? Was that dream...real?" She laughed and stood up. I didn't find this a bit humorous. "If it was a dream then it wouldn't be real. But yes, it was real."

"Um..."

"Here," Amy said, walking over to me. She handed me something. I looked down. It was a wooden wolf on a black string.

"I'll explain everything after tonight."

"Tonight?" I repeated, my voice sounding far away.

"What's your best friend's name again? The one that lives close."

"That's Bree...why?"

"That's all I needed to know. I'll be right back." Amy went downstairs. I heard her talking to my mom, but I didn't care at the moment.

I stared at the wolf. Its head was down and it looked like it was sleeping. I poked it to make sure it was solid. The details looked too real. I looked around me. This all had to be a dream. I couldn't become that...thing. That thing that wasn't even real. I looked at the clock. I was starving. Almost time for dinner.

Amy cracked open the door. "We have to go."

"Go? Why?" I demanded, standing up. I instantly felt dizzy and my vision swam.

"Because it is almost time," she muttered, grabbing my wrist. I pulled away.

"No. You're crazy. You talk crazy. I'm not going anywhere." I sat down on my bed and crossed my arms stubbornly. "You make shit up."

Her eyes narrowed. "No I don't."

"Yeah you do," I replied as my stomach lurched. I clutched it. "I think I'm gonna hurl."

"Good. Now come on. It's a sign."

I glared at her. "No."

She yanked my arm.

"Do it again and you'll be flying out that window," I growled.

She let go and shook her head. "Fine. Find out the hard way." She stormed out of the room and left me alone with my anger. I was right. She was crazy. All along.

"Pah, creature of the night," I muttered and went downstairs for dinner.
