#2 of A new beginning

hey...

I put a chapter up and i've put quite a bit in it. But right now i feel like i could do so much more, but i just can't... I'm asking try to enjoy it and read it but if you don't like it, i won't blame you. If you like it then thank you, if not... well read something else. Anyway, here it is.

The rest of the day had flown by as the young dragons played, Both of which filled with the childish glee of there youth. Both dragons were more than content with just being with the other. But eventually, the sun sunk in the sky and the darkness of night crept over the land. Forcing the dragons to make camp for the night.

The two were rested on top of a cliff edge, Spyro was busy fetching more fire wood, leaving Cynder alone on top of the cliff. The valley stretched out below her and in the distance, the faint lights of the great city flickered against the black background.

The fire crackled quietly behind Cynder as she stared into the twinkling night sky. It was perfectly clear, no clouds blocked her view as she stared into the night sky. Everything was supposed to be perfect, there wasn't supposed to be any trouble any more, but still...

Cynder gazed down at the city in the distance, and it filled her with so much dread. While she kept a tough outlook, inside she was terrified. What would they think of her? Would they hate her? What if another dragoness tried to steal Spyro from her? These thought's circled Cynder's mind like harpies, picking at her confidence until she was left little more than child again.

Everytime she thought of other with Spyro, she felt such fear and jealousy. When they were children, he was the only one who played with her, he was the only one who tried to defend her when she got attacked by the groups of other dragons. He was the only dragon that had ever cared for her, and she couldn't bare to see him separate from her. If another dragon won his heart, she'd....

Cynder shuddered as she thought of Spyro with another dragoness. She gave a long sigh and let her head drop, she had to figure out a way, without him she didn't know what she'd do.

"Thinking deeply are we?"

A voice said from next to her. She jumped slightly and span around to see Spyro standing there, a curious look on his face. Cynder gave a small growl and said in a irritated voice as her frustration and upset got directed at Spyro.

"Spyro! You might want to give me some warning when you're around! You scared the life out of me!"

Cynder suddenly stopped herself took a deep breath. She dropped her head slightly and said in an almost ashamed voice.

"I'm sorry for snapping at you... it's just..."

Spyro walked up to her and sat down next to her. She looked up at him and her face was sullen and depressed.

"What's wrong Cynder? I hate it when you're upset"

He patted the ground next to him and Cynder slumped down next to him, she leant on him and Spyro felt a little bit of excitement as there scales touched. Slowly Spyro wrapped a wing around her, and Cynder said in a timid voice..

"Spyro... i'm scared"

"Scared of what?"

He asked softly and he gave Cynder another soft squeeze with his wing. She trembled a little as Spyro hugged her and she said in a shaky voice.

"All the people in Warfang... What if they hate me? What if everyone hates me? What if they attack me? I can't face them Spyro, I can't face them!"

Her voice became more and more panicked as she spoke. But Spyro shushed her gently, his eyes never leaving her once. Quietly he replied in a reassuring tone.

"Cynder... why would anyone want to attack you? You saved there lives, you saved the whole world. Your a kind and sensitive dragoness and no-one in there right mind would ever want to hurt you."

Cynder looked up at him with shimmering eyes, tears crept down her face and she said in a hushed voice.

"I've done so much harm... I don't deserve this, I don't deserve to be your friend, I don't deserve to be anything."

Spyro slowly reached out with his paw and wiped a tear from her eye, she stared up at him a look which Spyro could not describe. But slowly Spyro said delicately and full of care.

"Cynder you've done more than enough, and it doesn't matter whether you feel you deserve to be my friend, I want to be your friend. The only other person that means as much to me as you do is Sparx."

Cynder gently reached out with her tail and wrapped it around Spyro's. It was so strong and tough, yet the scales felt so warm and soft. She pressed herself into him and secretly they both relished in the contact.

"Spyro... promise me, promise that no matter what happens, we'll always be friends..."

She asked in a weak voice. There was a small chuckle from the purple dragon, and he said in a calming voice.

"I promise."

Cynder felt a tiny smile creep across her face and she felt another surge of passion for Spyro. She spoke in a quiet voice but it was full of relief.

"Thank you Spyro, For everything."

Cynder rested her head back on Spyro, and together they watched the stars, their tails still wrapped around each others. Eventually, Cynder fell asleep on Spyro, leaving Spyro on his own to ponder what would happen in the days to come.

He moved Cynder's body until it rested by the fire. He watched her as she slept, her eye's fluttering as she did. Suddenly Spyro let out a small and sullen sigh, muttering quietly.

"I should have said then... Damn..."

He glanced over her beautiful form again he felt a small jump inside him. Slowly he placed himself down next to her and he said in a tired voice.

"Goodnight Cynder... someday i'll tell you, I will tell you."

Before shutting his eyes and drifting off to sleep.

************

The two dragons were up early next morning, neither of which wanting to be caught by the masses of people in Warfang. They were in the air, and on the least leg of the journey before even the sun had properly risen.

The pair flew as fast as their wings could carry them and in a mere few hours, they were already gliding over the city walls. The destruction of the city's most recent battle was apparent. Buildings were still destroyed and the rubble was still piled high and wide. But signs of reconstruction were already showing clear, moles were working on buildings and it was apparent that the city was recovering well from the devastation of days past.

They arrived at the temple quickly and they wasted no time getting inside, the more time they spent outside, the more time people had to spot them. The entered the great hall and Spyro was stunned to see how similar it was to forest temple which he had visited so many years ago. The intricate details such as the carvings on the wall, the towering pillars and the stone floor was all so similar it made Spyro think for a minute that they were back there again, back in their childhood.

But he was brought back to reality by shout, echoing through the hall. Spyro looked up to see the ice blue head of Cyril walking up to them, a friendly smile growing on his face.

"Spyro! Cynder! My goodness you're alive! And your back home!"

He called out and Spyro jogged forward to meet him.

"Cyril! It's good to see you again!"

Spyro said happily and Cyril gave a small chortle.

"As it is you. Firstly I must congratulate you both, for saving the world! But on a personal note, thank you for saving my own scales. You are both truly remarkable dragons!"

Spyro glanced at Cynder and he saw a small smile flit onto her face. He looked back at Cyril and the Ice dragon said in an eager voice.

"Tell me, how did it happen, how did you beat the dark one?"

Cyril's face was light up with curiosity but Spyro gave a small groan and said in an almost pleading voice.

"Please, can we find a place just to rest, we've been travelling for day now."

Cyril drew his head back and gave Spyro a look like he had been insulted. But suddenly he stopped himself and said in a rational voice.

"Of course, i'm sorry. I can't imagine how it would feel to asked to recite a tale the moment you reach your home after a long travel, especially with such an arduous one as your I imagine. It can wait, the other guardians should be present I suppose as well."

Spyro gave him a thankful look but then Cynder took a small step forward and asked.

"Where are the other Guardians?"

Cyril looked around the hall and said in a matter of fact tone.

"That, is a question that is also on my lips. Mostly likely attending some duties that I am not aware off, though I hardly see it as a problem. Speaking of guardians..."

Cyril looked around curiously and asked in a bemused tone.

"Excuse me, but where is Ignitus at this time? I would have assumed he would be back with you unless..."

Cyril trailed off, looking down at Spyro. Spyro's head instantly dropped and he said in a hollow voice.

"Ignitus... he's... he's gone. He died protecting us."

There was a moment of silence as the news sunk in. Cyril face's widen in shock as he watched the purple dragon. Cynder slowly stepped next to Spyro and rested a wing on him. Cynder whispered to Spyro gently.

"It's ok Spyro... it's ok, it's not your fault he died."

But Spyro still stared blankly at the ground. Cynder slowly rested her head on his and she said once more.

"Spyro, you've got to move on. We'll mourn him properly later, but we can't now."

Cyril eventually broke the silence by saying in a solemn tone.

"That is grim news indeed... but Cynder is correct, now is not the time to mourn him. I will tell the other guardians as soon as I can. We shall mourn him properly later, but right now I assume you need a place to stay?"

There was a small nod from Cynder and Spyro looked up, saying in a still empty tone.

"Yes... if you don't mind. I need to rest..."

Cyril gave a brisk nod and beckoned to them, turning as he did.

"Very well, we reserved two rooms for you just in case. They are next to each other so I would not worry about being separated, now will you please follow me"

He said and began to walk down a wide open corridor, and eventually up a winding staircase. Leaving the hall in silence except for the distant clacking of claws on stone.

Hope you liked it, next one will be better hopefully.

Comment and stuff if you want. Bye.
