#1 of A new beginning

Hello again

I decieded i wanted to write a Spyro fanfic because i'd seen a few of them on this site and the people seemed to like my last story and were really friendly about it. I'm still nervous about how this will go so here's hpoing it goes down well. If you like it then i'll continue it as best as i can. Anyway, have fun reading it.

It was daybreak, the morning dew was still wet on the grass and the air was clear and fresh. Birds were chirping happily, the water of the giant lake shimmered in the morning sun and the whole world seemed to be blossoming with new life and tranquillity. The brisk morning air was cool on the purple dragons scales as he sat on the hillside, quietly watching the sunrise. He gazed silently at the rays of sun bursting over the distant horizon and he felt a surge of pride fill him. They had done it, they had saved the world from destruction and Spyro was only too happy to relish in it's beauty, a renewed sense of happiness within him.

Everything in his mind was so much more beautiful, the long shadows on the grass cast from the slowly rising sun, the gentle glinting on sunlight on the vast lake before him and the song of the birds sounded sweeter than it ever had done. But the one thing which captivated Spyro's mind so intently was the black dragoness sleeping quietly behind him.

Slowly, Spyro looked around to stare at her again, her thin and curvy body was a sight to behold and Spyro couldn't help but smile a little bit and he looked at her face, so peaceful in her slumber. She had grown into such a fine dragoness, slender, graceful, Spyro's feelings for her had been growing for so long, but now he was old enough to realise them and appreciate how much he cared for her.

Slowly turned away, he smile turning to a grimace. He wanted to tell her, he wanted her to know how he felt, but every time he considered it, he just got so scared. He gave a low groan as he felt a bubble of worry grow inside him. Slowly Spyro lowered himself onto his back and stared blankly into the red morning sky, quietly wondering how he would do it. Spyro had been her friend for so long, they had played together as children, they had fought together as they had grown up and now...

He glanced over at her again before turning back to the sky as it slowly grew brighter and brighter, the blue slowly taking over from the black and red. Spyro took a deep breath and put his thoughts aside, he couldn't concentrate on them now, it was too early and they needed to get back to Warfang.

Once more he got to his feet and he made his way over to Cynder and shook her gently.

"Come on Cynder, it's time to get up"

He whispered softly. There was a loud groan in response and there was a glint of emerald green as one of her eyes slid open. Spyro grinned at her softly, saying as he did.

"Come on up you get, you can't sleep all day"

There was another groan from Cynder as she opened both her eyes, giving a long stretch, her joints clicking loudly. Spyro took a step back as Cynder clambered to her feet, shaking herself slightly as she did.

"Morning! How are you feeling? Did you sleep well?"

Spyro asked, a mix of nerves and care in his voice. Cynder finished shaking herself and she looked at Spyro with a slightly annoyed stare.

"I was sleeping fine until you woke me up"

She said and spyro began to worry if he had offended her. But Cynder's face broke out into a smile and she said in a cheery voice.

"I'm kidding, I feel better than in a long time. Thank you"

Spyro felt a small wave of relief come over to him. He looked at Cynder's face and she smiled sweetly at him. Spyro felt a little jump in his chest, her smile was so stunning. However he quickly gained his senses, they had to get moving, he had to get back.

"So, do you want to get going? We need to get back to Warfang soon."

There was a groan from Cynder, she gave him a look and she said in a tired voice.

"Why? All the Guardians are going to do are is make us do more jobs. Can't we just stay away for a bit? No work, just stay away and relax?"

She asked in a pleading voice. Spyro was desperate just to stay with her, he would have wanted nothing more than to just explore with Cynder. But deep down he knew he had to go back. Slowly he sighed a little and said in a quiet voice.

"Cynder, i'd love to just take some time off. But i've got to see sparx again, I promised him i'd return. Plus i've got to see the guardians, they got to learn about Ig...."

He paused for a moment and gulped slightly before continuing.

"About Ignitus."

Spyro finshed, trailing off at the end as the memory of the fire dragon came up in his mind. His head dropped and he stared at the ground as the he thought about him, he was the first dragon he'd ever met, and he saw him as a kind of father. Spyro felt a wing wrap around him slowly and he looked up to see Cynder looking at him, a mix of pity and compassion in her eyes. She spoke to him softly and in a tender tone

"Spyro it's ok. I'm sorry to remind you about him... I was just careless again."

Spyro shook his head slightly and he said in a nearly silent voice.

"No... no... it's not your fault."

Spyro felt Cynder shuffled up a bit and she leant on him slightly. Spyro could feel her soft scales touching his and he felt a small burst of joy in his heart. For a minute they sat there and gazed out over the lake, Spyro's heart burned for Cynder then he wanted nothing more than to tell her right then, but the same feeling of fear and nerves prevented him. He slowly looked down at her and he gave a small smile.

"At least a still have you... thank you for staying with me, through everything thank you"

Cynder gazed back up at him with her shining emerald eyes and she too began to smile. She gave a Spyro a small nudge and she said in a tender voice.

"Why would I ever leave my only friend? I'll always stick by you, i'll always be here for you"

Spyro's smile grew wider and his eyes gleamed. Spyro felt his own wings wrap around Cynder and he hugged her back. He felt his face flush a bit but still they sat there, just enjoying the comfort of each other. Eventually, Cynder said in a cheery tone.

"Come on then, i'm sure Sparx is dying to see me"

Spyro gave a small chuckle and they let go of each other. Spyro looked at Cynder with a face full of compassion and he said in a quiet yet happier voice.

"Thank you Cynder, again"

Cynder gave a tiny giggle and said in a mock scolding voice.

"What did I just tell you? Now come along, i'm sure if that we'll be able to get there before sunset if we hurry"

Cynder then leapt into the air, taking off in the air. Spyro gazed at her again for a few seconds before copying, catching up with her until they both were soaring in the clear blue sky.

***************

It was midday, Spyro and Cynder were soaring over a great forest. The world was tiny beneath them though they weren't paying attention to it. Both of them was focused on the other and nothing could distract them.

Cynder was flying parallel to Spyro, she watched his strong and graceful wings as they beat the air. Everything about him was perfect, his personality, his looks. No-one in the world could even begin to compare to him in Cynder's mind.

She looked away from him and down at the ground.

"If I fell, would he catch me?"

She wondered quietly, before scolding herself at the thought. Of course he would, Spyro would always to and save someone, even if it could kill him, he was a true hero. Cynder looked at him again and she felt a small smile flick across her face. He was always so caring and compassionate, and he never asked for anything in return. Suddenly she realised she was staring and glanced away before he noticed. She had never felt so nervous around him, and it just made her long for him even more.

She heard a shout out from next to her and She saw Spyro grinning slightly. Cynder gave him a quizzical look but simply he flew up to her and tapped her.

"Your it! Catch me if you can, which I know you can't... later!"

He said in a childish voice before diving away from her. Cynder smiled a little as she remembered how childish he was at time. But she heard another shout from the purple dragon as he sped away from her.

"You're not chasing? Looks like I win already!"

He joked, and Cynder felt a annoyance in her, she had seen that smile when they were kids and she wasn't going to let him keep that smug smile for any longer.

"Oh you we haven't even started! Your mine purple boy!"

She yelled happily before she dived after him, She pressed her wings close to her chest, like a bullet she sped down after the purple dragon.

Spyro saw her approaching and he doubled up his efforts to get away, but Cynder was gaining fast. She was hot on his heels and slowly felt her own smug smirk grow on her face. She knew she was faster, now it was all just a matter of time before she could claim victory over the purple dragon. She could imagine it now, finally beating the purple dragon at one of his own games. She lost concentration for a split second as she got caught up in her own imagination.

Spyro saw his chance and dived again, plunging into the thicket of trees below. He heard Cynder's cry of surprise as he weeded his way through the tree's and he laughed loudly. He looked back up at were she would be and yelled.

"Ha! Looks like I win again!"

He turned back to see where he was going, only to be met by a branch as he did. Spyro was clothes lined and he tumbled to the ground, he hit the forest floor with a loud thud and dirt was kicked up around him as he skidded to a halt.

Spyro spluttered as he spat out bit's of leaf and he groaned loudly and his head span as he tried to regain some sense of composure. He heard a distant yell but he couldn't think of what it was. The world was spinning around him as he stared blankly into the sky. There was a thud next to him and suddenly his vision was stopped by a black shadow standing over him.

"Spyro! Spryo!"

It yelled and Spyro groaned again. But his vision cleared and he saw Cynder's worried face staring down at him. Her eyes shone as she fretted about, checking to see if he was hurt.

"Are you alright?! What happened? Are you hurt?! Answer me Spyro!"

She said in a panicked voice. Slowly, Spyro spoke in a calm, albeit dazed voice.

"I'm fine, it was just a bump on the head. I've been through worse. I really need to watch were i'm flying"

He said and gave a small chuckle, but suddenly Cynder gasped a little and she said hurriedly in a worried tone.

"Spyro you're bleeding! I'm sorry! I shouldn't have forced you into the tree's and I shouldn't have gone after you and..."

She stopped as Spyro laid a paw on her cheek. Spyro gave her a reassuring smile and he said in the most relaxed voice he could.

"This wasn't your fault at all, I just didn't watch were I was flying. Besides, it's only a scratch, i'm sure i'll live"

Cynder's face relaxed slightly but still she said in a concerned voice.

"I just don't want you to be hurt, i'd feel so guilty if you had injured yourself."

Spyro gave a small chuckle as he began to get to his feet.

"Cynder... look on the bright side, at least you caught me for once"

He said in a jokey voice, but Cynder shook her head and said defiantly.

"No! Spyro, this isn't a joke! You could have hurt yourself!"

Spyro looked at her and he eyes were shining brightly as her face was a mix of fear and... compassion.

"You care so much, your the best friend I could have ever asked for."

He said quietly and Cynder looked at him with a caring stare. But then Spyro suddenly turned around, and leapt into the air, much to Cynder's surprise.

"If catch me then you've still got to get me! Come on Cynder!"

He yelled and he sped off into the distance. Cynder stared at the purple dragon with a mix of annoyance and humour.

"Oh thats it! Your dead when I catch you!"

She yelled back before leaping into the sky, speeding after the purple dragon.
