Chapter Two: Bound by an Oath
Slowly conciseness came back to me. I opened my eyes, though everything was blurry I could tell I was in some kind of house. I tried to move, and found that my hands and legs were tied up to the chair I was sitting in. I blinked a few time clearing my vision and looked around again. I saw the dragoness, and the fox, both eating at a table. I thought about trying to get out, but I would most likely make too much noise and alert them. So instead I went against what I had been told.
"Why am I tied up?" I asked, to no one really.
"Well, mister assassin." The Dragoness started. "I found a note in your robes. You were hired to kill me. correct? So I thought it better to tie you up until I was able to talk to you."
"Why do you want to talk to me?" I asked her.
"Because, I know the assassins oath. I saved your life, so you must serve me until you do the same to me." She said.
"Damn it, how do you know of our oath?" I asked.
"It's not like it's in ever library in the kingdom." She said.
"Right, why would you read it anyways?" I asked.
"Because, believe it or not, I am a book worm." She said as she turned to look at me.
"That, is hard to believe." I said.
"I know, now are you going to go by your oath or not?" She asked.
"You know I have to." I said sighing. "If not I will be hunted down. So untie me, I guess, and I will do as you say until I can save your life."
"Good boy." She said with a smile as she got up from the table.
The dragoness walked over to me, holding my own dagger in her hand. She picked me and the chair up without effort, and cut the ropes on my hands that held me to the chair. She then sat me down on the ground and went back to eating.
"Do you think I could get my dagger back?" I asked her.
"Not a chance little one." She said. "Oh by the way, the name's Serra, and this is Blake." She said motioning to the fox.
"Drake, my name is Drake." I said.
"That is your real name right?" Serra asked.
"Yes, I cannot lie to someone I am bound to by my oath." I said.
"Oh right, well would you like any food Drake?" She asked me.
"Um, yeah sure." I said and got up.
I walked over to the table, there was one chair and a booth. Serra was in the booth, she moved over so that I could sit down. I took a seat, I was nervous as hell having someone who could and has reason to kill me sitting right next to me. I looked over the food, there was some kind of meat sitting at the table, some bread and some cheese. I grabbed a slice of bread and started to eat it. Serra passed me a cup full of red wine. I took the cup and sipped on the liquid it contained.
"Ok, so when it turns out that you did not kill me, Drake, I'm guessing that another assassin will come for me. So, we are going to go on a trip, go out and explore the word." Serra said with a smile.
"Good plan." Blake said.
"What do you think Drake?" Serra asked me.
"It's not like I have a choice." I said.
"That's not an answer." She said sternly.
"Fine, I believe it to be a good idea." I told her.
"Good, we will leave in the morning then." She said. "Blake, you can sleep on the couch, and Drake, you have the floor."
"Comfy." I said.
I finished up my food and wine, got up from the table and went to the darkest corner of the house. I sat down leaning against the wall and watched as Serra and Blake talked to each other for another hour. Then, they both got up and went to bed. I thought about leaving but, I knew I could not. After a couple of hours I laid down and closed my eyes. With the wall at my back and a very hard floor under me, I feel into a restless sleep.
