A Life Worth Living - Chapter 2 - The Bleeding Nightmare
Another chapter in the series. I am hard pressed ot find time to upload and edit them, so hopefully I can get around to making changes that are needed. As always, enjoy.
Hey... Hey... Stop... Stop it! Stop!!!
The clock said it was three in the morning but that was irrelevant to me, for I'm trapped in a hellish nightmare, unable to resurface to reality. Surrounded by demons I'll stand my ground, no I, I won't back down. The stifled cries of the woman they were beating compelled me to do something, anything, but stand aside and mind my own. I began thrashing around under the covers as my mind tried to escape but couldn't, it only further progressed the scene. I held up my claws while the ringleader whipped out a switchblade. I was growling in both realities now so much my throat began to hurt. One of the demons picked up a piece of steel from the ground and charged at me. Filled with rage I sidestepped it and slammed his head into the wall behind me. Another hastily lunged at me and caught my shoulder with his claws. The warm scent of blood was relevant in the air and I turned towards another attacker. He smirked as a yell came from behind, but I was too late. I jumped to my side but the piece of steel cut into my upper chest.
I jolted upright constricted by the blanket I tore it to shreds. I didn't know where I was so I howled. I jumped from the bed, stumbled backwards, and tripped over some furniture. Something clattered and fell on top of me on the ground. I thrashed around trying to hit whatever was on me when the lights flicked on. I began to stop clawing as I heard my name being called. My vision focused and I saw William in the doorway screaming my name. Wait, that's right, I stayed over at Will's house. This was his guest room. My hearing began to return and I stopped moving. He lifted the light pole off me as I sat upright and drew my legs in.
"What's wrong Alurx? What the he'll is wrong?" He asked, squatting next to me.
I took a moment to collect my self and start to breath again.
"It was a nightmare." I managed to get out.
He took a moment before speaking. "Don't worry, that's all it is, a nightmare."
He began to rise when I grabbed him by the arm and stopped him.
"No, that's not all it was."
"What do you mean Alurx?"
"That wasn't just a nightmare. That was real."
Silence stood over us until he realized the smell of blood.
"Oh my god man you're bleeding!"
I looked down and then back off to the corner of space I had been staring at.
"Don't worry it's just re opened wounds, it'll stop soon. It stops bleeding every time."
"Well, is there anything I can get you? Water, washcloth..."
"No thanks I'm fine. Sorry about the room though."
"Yea no it's no problem, don't worry about it. I'm gonna head back to bed if that's ok with you..."
"Go ahead, sorry for waking you up..."
"No it's no problem." He began to walk back to the door when he looked back at me. I nodded towards him and he went on back to his room. I remained on the floor till unconsciousness took me again once more.
I came back to reality with the warmth of the sun and a smell of French toast and sausage. Portions of my fur were matted in blood and I was sore all over, as usual.
"Hey William, I'm going to take a shower alright?"
I heard his voice respond go ahead as I headed over to the bathroom. I flicked on the water and took off what remained of my tattered clothes. I stepped into the warm water as it cleaned my fur and took a deep red pigment to it before going down the drain. I rinsed down, shook off, and stepped out to grab a towel. I patted down my face and saw a pair of Will's shorts and a shirt.
"Isn't that just like William." I chuckled to myself as I threw the clothes on.
I headed down the stairs fidgeting with my mess of my hair and saw breakfast sitting on the table.
"Well hell, aren't I lucky to have a friend like you." I said before hunger hit my mind as subtly as a brick to the face.
