DEATH IN THE TIME BAY: PART THREE

The operator was the first to act, leaning forwards and pulling the badly hurt time traveler from the pile of corpses and limbs that surrounded him. The time traveler was unconscious, his head lolling back and his mouth half open, still contorted in a grimace of pain.

Scott took the time travelers' legs and helped the operator lower the wounded anthro to the marble floor, in the shadow of the Machine. There was a bullet wound in his shin, and a thin slice in his upper stomach which wasn't bleeding badly, but was undoubtedly causing internal bleeding. The operator took a rag from his overall's front pocket and pressed it against the time traveler's shattered shin.

The pain made the time traveler snap back to consciousness, jerking his head upwards, Scott was barely able to catch him before he bashed his skull against the floor.

That was when the first police officer walked into the building, his expression clam and reserved. It changed nearly instantly upon viewing the blood and pile of dismembered time traveler's in the Machine.

"Help us, give us bandages!" Cried the fox, not bothering with politeness and etiquette. The police officer fumbled at his belt for several agonizing seconds before tossing a roll of gauze to the fox, who tore off a long strip with his teeth and began to strap the rag into place. Blood was still dripping from the time travelers' stomach injury and Scott pressed wad of gauze against that as well, feeling the blood, as warm as a freshly poured cup of tea, cover his paws.

Another police officer, a golden lion rushed forwards, politely ushering the fox aside. His calm disposition spoke of countless hours saving lives. After all police officers had to receive at least basic medical training to go onto the streets.

"Please move aside," he said mildly, the fox did as he said, scooting aside and handing him the roll of gauze, "I have experience with gunshot wounds." Scott realized that his paws were shaking, and that he was dangerously close to fainting. He didn't like blood, didn't much like death either, even if it was quiet and painless.

Within seconds several other police officers had arrived, bearing a stretcher, which they set down next to the wounded time traveler, who was constantly drifting in and out of consciousness, mumbling indecipherable phrases as he did so. Scott got up and leaned against the side of the Machine, just in an effort to keep his wildly wobbly knees beneath him. The officers loaded the wounded time traveler aboard the stretcher and double timed it out of the Time Bay. The lion turned towards Scott, his expression calm as he wiped the blood from his paws.

"Name, please." Scott remained quiet for a few seconds, before finally finding his voice.

"Scott Pendleton, sir." The officer nodded and beckoned for Scott to follow him, ahead of him, he saw the fox departing with the other remaining police officer.

"You are being kept as a witness, you may call your family if you wish." Said the officer, then began walking briskly out of the Time Bay. Scott struggled to keep up with him, wondering what all of this could mean.
