Runewolf: Part 1
Runewolf: Chapter 1
The sun was harsh and was melting away the desert sand by the hour. The land was hot and void of air, and the fields were of sand and wind. There were no signs of life, with an exception of Corse. The lost dessert does not ordinarily have guests, alive that is. The Mere glimmer of life sends ripples through the landscape, most of which hasn't seen any in quite some time. A wolf, but not an ordinary wolf of sorts, what was here, lying in the desert sun, was a Runewolf.
The wolf was down in the sand, almost out of a deep trance. The wolf was a stellar warrior, wearing simple robes made for lower classmen, a wolf in sheep's clothing. He held a satchel, full of necessities including food, water, and weaponry. Little does he know of his past, his mind full of memories of his past life. These memories are very valuable; he was once a great rune warrior and craftsmen of enchanted rune items. That knowledge far from him now, 'only knows how to survive, and about the basic tools to do so. Our Runewolf, his name is Kale; he has been banned from his clan.
Kale opens his eyes, the first time in days. He takes deep breaths, still lying on the ground, useless and baffled at his current situation. Suddenly, he grunts and rolls over onto his back to look up at the sky. "How the hell did I get here?" Kale asked himself. Kale sat up and brushed what sand off of his fur that he could. Then, he jumps up to his feet and began to get a feel for the body he hasn't used in days. The fur that was on Kale was fairly simple, black on the side and the top half of the face, with white mixed in throughout. Of some of the more noticeable features he has, was the runes across his face, down from his eyes and down the top of his tail. (As is accustom in Runewolf culture)
Kale looked at his surroundings, observing the landscape. Quickly looking down, Kale finds the satchel. Perplexed, the young wolf stares at the satchel, wondering of its contents. With a careful hand, Kale steps out and reaches over to the satchel and picks it up. He then draws his hand over the top and pulls it over. Inside, he found a few things. Of these there were a gallon of water, a knife, some food, a runeforging pen, and a book. Kale took a stare at the objects bestowed upon him. He wondered about the book and pen and there importance. He was indeed literate and understood the book, but its contents meant nothing to him. The pen was of something of worth to him, crafted with the finest materials and with runes that glowed in broad daylight. Most of all, he wondered about what the satchel meant. Was he sent there? What does the book and pen mean? How did he get there?
The Wolf stood, tall and strait, with posture that looked proud. He took a step, and another, eventually becoming on his way. He walked and walked, never knowing what would happen to him. Seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours. He walked endlessly until the sand burnt his feet and the sun did not shine. "This spot looks fine to sleep" said Kale ironically as the landscape looked the same for miles. He sat down, without a thought in his mind. Reminding himself of the satchel, he looked over at the bag and grabbed it. He opened the top and grabbed the water, of which he has not taken any yet. (Runewolfs do not need as much water as humans) he sipped the water as he grabbed some bread from the bag of food he had. He ate slowly, saving what food he had.
Kale finished eating and lay down, staring at the stars. It struck him; he could remember the stars, their names, and there placements. Although with this newfound collage, it became irrelevant, as he still didn't know where he was. With a long and drawn out sigh, Kale fell asleep, alone.
The air was warm and the earth was wet. The sky clear and the sun was up, gazing upon Kale. Frowning was his world; a great man was soon to be lost to a lesser world. Gauds surrounded the Wolf with smirks of sinful delight. The guards held a firm grip on Kale, bringing him to his knees. Noblemen walked to Kale, with a grin that seemed to span a thousand miles. The spoiled noblemen struck the ground with the bud of his cane, and walked up to kale and spoke "Oh, what has brought me this honor, Kale?"
Kale remained silent and put his head down in resist. "You know, I've always liked you Kale" responded the noblemen, with a sly sneer. Kale turned away in defiance of the noblemen's taunt. "Oh, what have we here?" said the noblemen, putting his cane up to Kale's chin, lifting it so that he may see his adversary. "Now, make it up to me, this your last chance Kale, kiss my foot, and maybe I might let you go" putting his foot up to Kale's face. In a burst of disgust and rage, Kale spat upon the noblemen's foot and yelled. "What you have done is unforgivable; you disgust me in every way Cecile!" Cecile sat silently for a few moments, absorbing what Kale had said. "You have made calm and reasonable man very disrupt, to hell with you!" Cecile kicked Kale across the face as he screamed. Kale's blood began to boil with rage and his runes began to glow a bright green. With a quick burst of speed and force, Kale broke free from the guards grasp and assaulted Cecile. With few strikes from his sharpened claws, Kale ripped the nobleman's head clean off and mutilated his body.
Just then, the vision began to fade and the world went black, with a sharp pain coursing through kale's body. The world went black and cold for Kale and the vision ended.
Air entered Kale's lungs as he woke from the vision. His eyes opened and his sight cleared; the setting still dark. He was no longer on sand, but a bed, soft and welcoming. Kale wondered silently about his predicament. The room he was in was dark, but he managed to see the walls, made of metal. The room seemed to move around, he was likely in a vehicle of some sort. Regardless of the state he was in, he was close to civilization.
Just as Kale started to relax, the door opened. A glare that seemed to be stronger than the brightest sun hit kale and he put his arm up to his face to protect himself. His eyes adjusted and slowly put his arm down from his eyes. He saw the figure in front of the door, female, about 5 and a half feet tall. "Good, you're awake" said the shade. She walked forward, and turned the lights inside the room on. "I'm sorry, but who exactly are you?" asked Kale, almost aggressively. "no need to get your panties in a bunch big guy, I was going to ask the same question" snapped the woman. A long silence broke over the two after their exchange of words.
"I'm Kimatra, but everyone calls me Kira" said Kira, reaching her hand out to Kale to shake "I'm Kale, nice to meet you" uneasily responded Kale, reaching over to shake Kira's hand. "I'm sunmaw, but you probably already knew that" explained Kira "no, I didn't" responded Kale, in a mist of confusion. "You live under a rock your whole life or something, than again I've never seen your race either" snapped Kira. "Well, I think I'm of the Runewolf clan, I'm unsure though" said Kale plainly. Kira almost burst out of laughter. "Runewolf ? Nobody has heard of them in over 200 years, you must be insane" complained Kira "If I didn't know better, with those smoky eyes and your mangy look, you must be a drug addict" another long silence broke among the two. "Problem is I can't remember much from my past Kira, I can't really tell you anything"
Sapped from Kale's statement, Kira spoke. "Well, Judging from those marks on your fur, I will believe you for now" stated Kira "But believing you're from an extinct species that's supposed to be able to cast spells and shit is a tad bit..... Suspicious" "well, I can't say that wouldn't be perfect" responded Kale "we will test this, come on, get up and follow" rushed Kira "oh, and put some clothes on, my brother won't like you running around looking uncivil"
Kale put on clothes and followed Kira to what seemed to be a firing range. "Mind telling me what were on?" asked Kale "ugh, you ask too many questions" responded Kira. "Now, the history books say you can shoot energy from your hands with your runes" explained Kira "could you demonstrate?" Kale stepped up to the range and put his palm up to the air, aiming towards the target. "Good, now try focusing the energy from your runes to your palm" said Kira. Kale closed his eyes and focused his energy. The runes on his fur started to glow, and soon a ball of blue energy formed at the center of his palm. "Ok, now try and push that energy towards the target" yelled Kira, full of excitement. Kale opened his eyes and shot a burst of energy from his hand, destroying the target. "Well, you're just what we hoped for, a fucking magic man" "that's good right?" asked Kale "yeah, you could say your firepower could repay us for saving your life."
Just as the two began to settle and discuss, the vehicle they were on was hit, by a force unknown.
