Of St. George
Ieesha learns of the old tale of St. George, and humankind's portrayal of Dragons as monsters to be slain. She changes this.
When Ieesha learned about our myths concerning dragons - of how they stole maidens and hoarded great treasure; of how they were often depicted as cruel monsters to be slain - Ieesha became dismayed, then depressed... and finally, she looked upon 'fantasy' dragons... and _ sneered _ at how they were depicted! 'This will not do,' she thought. _'We are not monsters; we must not be like them! _' Thus, when more Omari Kirata transmitted themselves across space and time to Earth, looking for human companions, it was so.
Humans depicted dragons as creatures who dwelt in caves -- but the Omari Kirata were not. Slipping into the human economy, the gentle dragons purchased real estate as any human would -- abandoned ghost towns, old aircraft hangers, reasonable tracts of land -- and turned them into proper homes built to code and regulation! Humans depicted dragons as foul, loathsome beasts, thus the Kirathian Dragons kept themselves extremely clean, leather hides oiled and buffed, claws polished, teeth and breath clean -- many even wearing perfume and cologne. The Kirata saw humans wearing clothing -- and made their own, from simple, brightly coloured sashes, to great "horse coats" to elaborate barding; along with tattoos, piercings, jewellery... the list went on!
Great quadruped dragons and dragonesses wearing elaborate kimonos, business suits, casual clothing... At first, humans laughed; there were people who scoffed, and wondered how these beings - whom were the size of aircraft! - could even wear such clothing, let alone even _make _such large garments! Ieesha promptly shut them all up when she first put on a simple sash, then next an overcoat, then the most amazing kimono and traditional clogs, and finally a sharp business suit -- all with _ telekinesis _ *, * expertly manipulating buttons, and zippers... Behind all of this, of course, were the crafts-dragons - assisted by their (bonded) human companions who were clothiers, tailors, fashion experts...
Humans depicted dragons as hoarders of treasure -- but for the Omari Kirata, this was also not true; in fact, the kind-hearted dragons found the notion absurd and deeply distressing; thus, they slipped into the human economy - like, well, humans - where they 'bought' and 'sold' like everyone else. Humans depicted dragons as greedy monsters; the Omari Kirata were not, they were gentle, empathetic, generous, kind-hearted. Human mythology saw dragons burning down human villages; thus, the Omari Kirata _ built them _ ; homelessness was no longer a thing when the home of a Kirathian Dragon was built not only for the dragon but also for his or her dovah fahdon -- "dragon friend"; the dragon's telepathically bonded human companion, that the two could happily live together.
The Kirathian Dragons also took extraordinary _care when working in and around human-built dwellings and cities; utterly _no rampaging like Godzilla -- and if an accident ever did occur, then crafts-dragons strictly learned from human tradesmen swiftly repaired whatever was damaged. Gradually - as humankind accepted their new dragon friends - cities became dragon-friendly, with wider roads, and _ big _ open spaces, parks, malls, shopping centers, 'fly-in' movie theatres; places where the dragons could _ be _ and hang out with their human friends. Upon witnessing this, the Omari Kirata were brought to _tears. _"Dragons live alone, they're solitary, living on mountaintops" said human myth -- so the Omari Kirata were the opposite; gaining permission, the dragons build their homes close to older human towns and cities - or inside the newer, dragon-friendly ones - and they did all they could to attract humans to them, all but begged us to visit them, spend time with them.
All the while, however - as more and more Kirathian Dragons appeared - human governments "waited for the other shoe to drop", waited for the "catch-22." A whole race of dragons near bending over backwards to befriend humankind? It seemed too good to be true. At last, the 'truth' came out... and when it did, every human who had a dragon friend hugged said dragon's head tightly. The Omari Kirata - the Kirathian Dragons - had done all that they had... to deliberately _ attract ** _humans--not because the dragons wanted war with us, or wanted to rule, or reveal hidden cruelty (such absurd notions ideas distressed and hurt the Kirata, made them ill thinking about them) -- but because they had all been _ **engineered _ to seek out and bond with humans; that, and the dragons were _lonely, desperately lonely. _
When I had first bonded with Ieesha, in that instant the entirety of the collective Kirata Dovah Hahdrim, _the great eternal _Dovah Sil, took notice, then freaked out and _ utterly lost its shit _ with happiness -- and it was all Ieesha could do to convince her kind to not all come to Earth all at once to look for human friends; such a thing would definitely be seen as an invasion; that was the last thing Ieesha wanted! Thus, the rest of her kind arrived very slowly to Earth, sometimes one or two sometimes a small group of three or four, a mated family with their whelplings. As with all things, sometimes meetings didn't go well -- but most often it was due to a human being scared of a dragon's intimidating size, or worried about being injured due to an overly excited dragon's fawning; but the dragons learned swiftly to be extraordinarily gentle around their human friends, families, possessions, and human infants.
But when that telepathic - near symbiotic - bond was formed... when a dovah kirata _gained a _mun fahdon... dragons inched closer to their human friends, tails wagging, or quieted the urge to pounce or bound about with happiness; or dragons flopped on their backs and bared their bellies or burst into tears, keening high as the loneliness was at last ended. Awed humans were nuzzled, faces licked by the tips of fine-pointed tongues; tearful dragons were soothed as humanity's next stage began with the mighty Kirathian Dragons beside us.
