Red Skies: Part 2
"Ugh" a noise broke the silence of the pitch black night. "Don't push yourself, I know you recover fast but now is not the time" rushed a voice, soft and gentle.
Black again, Red went into another deep sleep.
Red opens his eyes, only to see that he is not conscious. "Where am I?" red asked to himself. "a weird think to ask oneself when in ones own mind" whispered an anonymous voice. Red nervously looked around, the land was indefinable, as being in his own mind; he does not know where he truly is. "Who are you?" asked Red "Why, I was asking myself the same thing, not two seconds ago" remarked the voice. "Well, you're a bit of a smart ass for a conscious" Replied Red "Conscious, ha, hardly"
"Don't listen to that jerk, I am the one you truly need to talk to!" forcefully yelled another voice, this time, calmer and more aware of its surroundings. "Mind someone telling me what's going on" Red asked the two. "Well, we're you're two thoughts, one of you're natural instincts" Replied the voices "and your conscious" Red thought in confusion of his current situation, and what he would do. "We are both here to discuss something" said his conscious.
"Shall we sit?" asked the conscious as it projected a simulation for the group to talk in. the surroundings turned to a grove with a small campfire in the middle of them. The three of them all had stools faced towards the campfire. The instinct turned to a bandit, dressed in red and black. And the conscious dressed as a sheriff, bold and blue. "The topic at hand, your life" said the instinct with a demonic grin. "Let us not be so hasty instinct, we have more things to discuss" barked Red's conscious
"Why have you taken me here first?" asked Red with a puzzled look on his face. Instinct burst into laughter as conscious frowned and looked down "the two men that stabbed you" quoted his conscious "there blades were dipped in poison and it's currently in your bloodstream" Instinct's laughter grew louder and louder. Red's face tilted down and he said but one phrase "why must you laugh, if you truly were my instincts you would fight to stay alive at all costs. "Because you wont die, you idiot!" smacked instinct in the middle of his laughter.
"Crude, vicious, and the most loyal subject as humanly possible... this is instinct, he is your animal side" sadly said conscious "if he is so loyal, who don't you tell him to be more polite?" asked Red "because I do not control him, you do, and your control is questionable at best" replied his conscious. They both sat in silence as instinct pushed out the last of his sick laughter. "this is one of the main subjects we need to discuss, but for now we need to let you know" said Red's conscious "you will live to see another day"
"Now, on to the other subjects you said we need to go over" hastily said Red, annoyed by the slow discussion "well, lets start with what I said earlier" replied the conscious "your instinct takes hold of you far to much, and nearly controls you when you are in combat" Red sat in his mind trying to recall the times of this happening. Suddenly, as soon as Red's eyes closed, the landscape changed to the wasteland. It was the canyon they were in when they were fighting last "Ah, my new favorite scene" remarked Instinct as he saw Red, pinning the two men against the wall.
"This is a prime example of when your instinct took over" Quoted Red's conscious. Red looked stunned as he stared in how he seemed to change "Crude, vicious" said the conscious "Red, no!" yelled Sam from the memory "and the most loyal person humanly possible" finished conscious. "We must use this power, and learn to control it is what you're getting at, right" Red said "precisely!" ended his conscious
"Ohhhhh, lets talk about our mate!" squealed instinct happily "Pfft, I'd hardly call it our mate instinct" snapped Conscious "oh, you want in her pants too conscious" argued instinct "that is not of my concern!" yelled back Conscious. An argument broke out and Red nobly dipped his head down and listened until he couldn't stand it "Shut up, just shut up!" yelled Red
A disturbing and deep silence broke among the group for a while. "Well it's clear that you feel strongly about her that must solve our question, is she worth living for"said conscious "what's that supposed to mean?" asked Red "we are only what you know, that is.... For you to find out" said conscious
"Lastly, your drive in life, it must not be forgotten" said instinct and conscious "who am I? Is that what you ask" the three stood in silence for a while. Red thought of all of the things he discussed with himself. "What am I, what" he whispered over and over in his mind. "What about my mate, my life, others lives and what about....." Red sat for what seemed to be hours. "times up!" jolted instinct with a broad smile and a devious look. The room went black.
Red regained consciousness
Red woke with Sam's head on his chest, passed out, likely from treating his wounds constantly. Red looked at his arms, not very strong, but enough to move. Slowly, Red moved the passed out Sam into a sleeping position onto his right. She seemed to have normal body functions, although she had passed out from exhaustion. Sam moved up to Red and hung on to his arm, the wounds no longer hurting from a touch. Red let out a long sigh of relief as he enjoyed his company.
Today, I talked to myself, oh yeah I also got stabbed in the arms....twice
