How to Act Like a Dragon (A Wings of Fire Fanfic) Chapter 5
#5 of How to Act Like a Dragon (A Wings of Fire Fanfic)
And Chapter 5 is here!
I held in his hands for quite some time, letting the tears that I have been holding back, the emotions that I endured during my life, flow freely. I can tell that this man, for some reason, cared about me. Why? I do not know, but I do not care. I have never been held like this since... forever.
As the last of my tears dried out, I felt myself finally gaining a little bit of composure, wiping my tear-stained face with my hand to look at the man who gave me a very kind smile.
"Thank you..." I said with gratitude as I detached myself from him as I composed myself. I looked at him, not with suspicion, but with appreciation.
" You are welcome." He then wave his hand and the next thing I knew, the scenery changed from a flowery field to a floating palace high in the sky.
"Woah..." No words can describe how beautiful this place in front of me is. The afternoon sunlight reflects the entire palace, making it look like it was made of gold. Countless dragons with varying colors, minding their own business.
But when I looked below, I see cages. With them, many dragons are trapped inside them like caged birds. Some of them are even to the brink of death.
The mere sight of it makes my stomach feel queasy when a hand touched my shoulder, making me jolt and look back. It was just him.
"I assume that you already know where I am going with this." He said as he looked at the dragons going on about their daily lives.
"I am guessing that I got reincarnated as a dragon in another world?" I asked with uncertainty. I know it for a fact though, I just don't want to believe it. But all the clues are there, I did become a dragon and my human self is gone. At least, that is what I thought.
"Not quite." The man turned to me and looked at me seriously. He clasped my hands and looked at me with a sad smile.
"My child, my Father has heard your plea. Many young people who are the same age as you said the same plea." He wave a hand in the air, and a mirror appeared. However, it shocked me as I saw my sleeping form inside the mirror instead of my reflection.
"What is going on?" I asked the man beside me. This is getting confusing.
He nodded and let go of my hands.
"My child, He saw your uncertainty in your old life, the way how you handle things poorly where you only sway from the path that my Father has carved for you." I dropped my head in shame. What he said, every word of it is true. I did waste my life, not making friends, just locked there in my room, afraid of facing the real world and indulging some fantasies.
"Father has granted you a chance. A chance to become something different." He said as I assume that something different meant becoming a dragon.
"If you accept this chance, then you will forfeit your soul, and be reborn in this dragon body." He said with sadness in his eyes. Why would he be sad? This seems cool, to be honest.
"However, IF you choose that is." What? It makes it sound like this will be the hardest choice that I will face in life.
"Do you not remember your parents?" I froze. I never thought of that.
Now guilt is starting to take root in my heart. I know that restarting life as a dragon in another world is cool and all but... At the cost of cutting the ties of my family? The one who raised me since I was little, only for me to disregard their sweat, their tears, their sacrifice of building me a bright future, only for me to ignore that?
Yes. Yes, I do.
I know. That may be a cruel and possibly selfish request but, I have my reasons.
My parents, more specifically my mother, is the only one that takes good care of me, and my siblings. She loves us equally with all her heart.
My father, if I can still call him that, is not my biological father. My father died when I was at the age of six, so my siblings are oblivious to who their real father is. He can coax them, spoil them, telling them words of comfort, but not to me. He doesn't like it when I was not born by his blood. He pretends to ignore me and then use my siblings against me. But even then, I never once held my siblings accountable for their actions.
At first, I told my mother everything, and she did drill some sense in my siblings and my stepfather, but as time goes by, my stepfather brainwashed my mother into joining his side. She started scolding me until today. Telling me to leave the house but at the same time, forcing me to stay. I just, don't get them.
I still love my mother and my siblings, to be honest. It was her that taught me to forgive others when the time is right, and I waited for that exact time. The time where she saw how she is wrong. But as time pass by, my hope started to diminish, I endured so much verbal lashing that I started to become antisocial, even to my parents.
I started to have the fear of talking to someone in person. I do not know how to interact with them.
I can only share my problems with Tyler, my online friend, but he is busy with his own life that I do not know who else to talk to.
I look at him with determination in my eyes. It is all that he needs to see as he closed his eyes and nodded.
"Yes, I am ready to cut my ties with my family." The guilt in my heart is strong, but my anger, my sorrow, my rage. All negative emotions that I have thought have been long gone, come going back to me.
"I want to start fresh, unshackled by someone who never cares for me but abuses me." I look at the palace within my sight, then looked back at the man in front of me.
"Very well." He looked at the mirror and waved his hands. Then what I saw shocked me, my body in the mirror started to convulse, it was shaking rapidly, and then... It stopped.
I stood there. I don't know how to feel about this. I just witnessed myself die of some kind of heart attack or convulsion.
"Listen my child, and listen closely." I shake my head and gave him my full attention. This is not time for me to be paralyzed. This is it, I am about to be officially be reincarnated as a dragon.
"In this world, magic exists to serve greater beings such as dragons and other creatures." I know, I already watched countless isekai anime to know how this works.
"And I do not doubt that with you here, you will not survive." Nani?
"What?" I asked in disbelief. Why would he send me into this world when I am unable to survive in this harsh world then?!
"Let me finish. I said you will not survive unless you have your memories kept within you." Ohhhh. Okay, that makes sense. But wait, how is keeping my memories will make me survive in this world? I barely read the books!
"You don't need the knowledge of those books to survive my dear child. All you need is to keep those wits with you. Power is not everything. " That... is the most cliché line I have ever heard in my entire life.
"Of course, I will also grant you a special ability. However, I advise you to use this ability as little as possible. Remember, power corrupts a person, no matter how good they are." I heed his warning. I already know a lot of people that got very corrupt and greedy thanks to power. Hopefully, I will not be one of those people.
"Aren't you gonna tell me what my ' special ability ' is?" He smiled and shook his head.
"It is better if you find it out for yourself. After all, where is the fun in that?" He gave me a mischievous smile. Oh? I guess even he has a sense of humor.
"With your new life, you will also be given a new name. Your old name will only hold you back, I presume?" I nodded, although, coming up with a name might be harder than I thought it would be.
"Well then," His form starts to become translucent. "I must be off, good luck with your new life dragon." He said as my surroundings started to get darker.
"Oh, and by the way, I already asked a dragon to be your guide and friend in this new world. Hopefully, she will notice you the second she sees your odd form. No dragon in this world has a strange hair that grows in their body after all." Huh, that was convenient. I won't complain though. Having a guide will help me live a simple, comfortable life in this world. Wait a minute...
"She?" I asked with worry, oh no. I do not know how to talk to girls.
He shot me a mischievous smile as I widened my eyes. "Yes, and her name is Nature. Do not worry, you'll notice the dragoness the second you lay eyes on her." Wait... WHAT?!
I was about to complain, but my body started feeling weird and the next thing I know, I was falling into the deep dark void below me, the last words that I hear the man say was...
" Good luck with your new life... Skyler."
To be continued...
