This is another writing prompt from the furry writing group in which I take part on Telegram.

(Interested in joining us? You can find it here: https://t.me/joinchat/CPoeZhclggenrOEh0yYwvg )

The focus of this prompt is to do a short story of "about 1000 words" with the prompt: "It was exactly what I needed."

We're back once again in the world of "The Gift" and from Billy's point of view again. We review what happened between he and Mishupishu the night after they returned from the road trip, this time from the human's perspective, with a few more details. As always, thanks for reading!

How to Seer, Part 13

We got back home late afternoon and, I spent the next hour or so unloading the car while everyone else got situated. Continuing their guidance of the newest addition to the household, Kon, Raven, and Talapus showed Link around. Mishupishu, on the other hand, spent time alternatingly lurking around me and giving he a huge amount of space. I felt the hot-and-cold acutely, but I let him do his thing, realizing that he wasn't quite as accustomed to being around Humans as the others.

Just after I'd finally settled in for the night, all the rest of the Spirits still providing Link some company, Mishupishu spoke up for the first time with five simple words. "I am going to go."

It was a strange thing to hear from the Water Panther since he rarely ever announced his arrivals or departures. Standing up from where I'd just sat down on the couch I turned to regard him, using a casual tone to hide my confusion at his announcement. "Okay... so... are you going to be back before bedtime, or will I see you tomorrow mor--"

"I will not be back."

If the first five-word statement had put me off balance, the second was enough to knock me over. I stopped trying to hide my emotion. "You're leaving... for good?"

He offered only a single, succinct nod. "Yes."

I countered with a single word of my own. "Why?"

My follow up question actually got him to pause. I watched as his ears alternated between rising up dominantly to falling aside sheepishly; they pulled back in aggravation, then wilted in sorrow. Eventually Mishupishu tried stumbling along some kind of an answer in English, but it was readily apparent that his lack of familiarity with the language wasn't helping. "It... I... it is better if I go. Danger-- I--"

I held out a hand. "Stay. It's better if you stay. If there's some kind of trouble--"

He pulled away. "No. I need to go."

Although I'm not as domineering or bullheaded as most, people who are close to me are important to me, and I couldn't just accept that at face value. Reaching out, I took hold of his wrist. I'm assuming if anyone had been able to see it the thought of a barely-six-foot-tall medium build human trying to restrain a several hundred pound almost-seven-foot-tall humanoid water-going-lynx would have been almost comical but, in that moment all I could think about was how I had thought we were getting closer even as we were apparently drawing further apart. At that point I tried switching over to Algonquin. "Are you unhappy? Did I do something wrong?"

Mishupishu gave a faint tug of his arm, but I held him far more firmly than his half-hearted attempt to escape would succeed in thwarting. He ultimately turned back to me. "No. I am happy, but I cannot stay. Goodbye, William."

He had always been something of an enigma and had a nasty habit of disappearing whenever he wanted regardless of what was going on simply by dematerializing. Somehow, that time, however, even as he phased out, I managed to refuse him the departure, and, as my grip tightened around his fading half-essence, it got him to reform solidly; I think we were both surprised. Before he could recover I doubled-down, saying the Algonquin words I'd had to look up online. "I love you."

Those words got an even greater response out of him; his ears stuck straight up, tail thrashing out behind him as his entire body went rigid with what almost looked like... fear? I stepped closer and, when he didn't react, I raised a hand and pressed it to the side of his neck. My other hand rose up and cupped his furry cheek in my palm. Spirits are as much about intent as they are action and, despite being on my tip toes at a disadvantage for leverage, I was, nevertheless, easily able to bring his face down to meet mine, and I kissed him. It was our first kiss and, as I found out later, his first ever.

Even with my eyes closed I could feel his posture change progressively over the next few seconds. My lips remained pressed to his muzzle for what must have easily been two dozen heart beats-- and not just because my heart was beating so rapidly, but because, after the third or fourth, his arms folded around me and he reciprocated with the eagerness of a starving man tearing into a roast chicken. His muzzle moved almost as if eating, tongue pushing against my lips before delving into my mouth, sharp teeth grazing my flesh as his whiskers tickled my cheek.

Before I knew it, we were in my room; it almost felt like I was floating as he had not released me since our kiss-- he even renewed it once we were past the door. Gazing down at me with glowing Emerald eyes, Mishupishu's voice came out in a strong vibrato; he was purring. "Say it again to me, William... say those words."

I couldn't help but smile, and I ran my fingers down the length of the whiskers on one side of my face. "Why ask me to? If you ask me then you won't get Spirit Energy."

He shut his eyes, freezing in place for a moment; his whiskers quivered and, other than his tail flicking twice he was like a statute, as if trying to reason in his own head a proper answer. Eventually his eyelids rose again and I saw, clear as day, Golden irises staring back at me. "It means less to me... those words mean more. YOU mean more."

Disengaging, I pulled my shirt off and then embraced him again. By that point he had fallen to his knees so we were nearly the same height, almost as if he were pledging himself to me, or asking me for a blessing. Those thoughts had come to mind unbidden at the time, and yet, somehow, that was what it felt like in that moment. I took his muzzle in my hands, one on either side of it, and I said the words, once in English, and once in Algonquin. "Mishupishu, I love you."

I felt his paw pads on my flesh again as he embraced me, pulling me even closer so that we could kiss again. His fingers danced across my back, splayed out enough that I could feel the webbing that joined them; he was, after all, a water panther. My own hands explored his body, fingers running through his lush, almost otter-like fur, traversing his entire body until the encountered the thin leather strap that held up his loincloth. Mishupishu had told me numerous times that I was a Shaman, a Human with great spirit powers, and that, to me, Spirit Matter was as real as what was within the physical world. I didn't realize until that moment what he meant because, suddenly, my merest wish that his loincloth was gone was enough to make it happen.

He, once again, looked just as surprised as I felt, and we drew apart, both looking down at the missing clothing for several seconds. He recovered first, a deep, hungry growl rising up from deep within his belly. I wasn't afraid though; I immediately knew what kind of hunger that signaled, and, surprisingly, what I felt mirrored it. He picked me up even as I pulled my own jeans off and, with an impatient snarl, he manifested with enough power to Tear my underwear clean off with one claw.

Despite my eagerness, once we had both fallen back onto my bed, and the large Spirit started grinding his thick, dribbling sheath against my thigh, I finally began to realize the reality of the situation, and, in that moment, I paused. He stopped immediately. "William?"

I fought hard to overcome that moment of trepidation and, in the end, I was victorious. Still, I wanted only honesty with Mishupishu. "This.... is my first time. I'm... a little scared is all."

The expression of reassurance on his muzzle was all I needed to see; in that instance I was awash with relief, and realized that he was content to go at my pace. Laying back on the bed, Mishupishu smiled, and spoke softly, words still vibrating with his purr. "Then we will take our time, William. It is alright to be afraid..." He lowered his voice so low that I almost missed the words in Algonquin. "...it is good to have a little fear..."

Slowly moving to straddle him, my legs were pressed ppart by the width of his hips. "I'm alright... you're here with me."

It must have been the right thing to say; he reached up and caressed my cheek with the back of his paw, even as his other rose up to rest against my hip. I reached across to my nightstand where I had a dispenser of hand cream and Mishupishu glanced that direction. "What is that?"

My face felt like it was on fire as I blushed, but I answered nevertheless. "It's... lotion. I don't have any-- um.... lube. It'll probably be better than nothing, I mean..."

He cocked his head to the side. "What is it for?"

There was no easy way for me to explain it. "Let me show you."

It was quite an experience slathering a panther-like erection with hand lotion and, later, I learned that in post circumstances it probably wouldn't have been possible for most people but, apparently, I was someone special. The next almost-hour was, in fact, spent with Mishupishu showing me physically just how special I was. Truth be told, I wasn't in any hurry, just glad that we could have that time together and, in fact, when I finally came, I hadn't ever touched myself-- it was all him. That night wasn't too little and it wasn't too much; it was exactly what I needed and, I think, exactly what he needed too.

The sound Mishupishu made when he climaxed sent a chill up my spine at the time and still does every time I think about it. I will never forget that the water panther is a wild Spirit; he deserves respect, which I give him as freely as my love. We snuggled until I fell asleep, lulled off by his warmth, and the powerful rumbling vibrations of his purring. That night he also became my Guardian Spirit, which increased that number to two.

Little was I to know that the following night I would gain a third. It was a date night and, interestingly enough, it would be my second and third sexual experiences with Spirits-- simultaneously.
