Chapter 1: Augury of War**
It was a routine patrol, just to check how things were going on the east line . Only a few angels from different levels, nothing big. Things seemed to be really good, demons hadn't appeared here for a few years, the same in all the lines. But it was always like that, they showed in larger groups once every few years. They always came in thousands. For one angel there were about 100-200 demons. One well trained angel could fight without big problems with hundreds of demons in one time sending death to them in less than few a minutes. The patrol was about to get back to the camp, one of angels stayed behind his fellows telling them he had to check something out. It was the human Idarin from the first level. In the patrol there was also the Siberian tiger Tera from the fifth level, elf Naitus from the second and the Arctic fox Gabriel from the seventh. They left Idarin and headed back to camp. They had gone a long way when they heard the battle hymn signalled by their brother Idarin. They fell back at once to check out what happened. What they saw was a place of great battle, many demons dead and Idarin badly injured fighting with many more of the beasts. They went to help their brother, Naitus casted a barrier blocking the arrows flying from the other side. Tera casted a small earth quake to stop the demons from fighting and escape. Gabriel used his bow and boots which gave him accuracy and speed, and was firing arrow after arrow in less than a second killing most of the demons. They managed to kill them all signaling the angelic battle hymn protecting them from lesser than 8th hell gate magic. Gabriel healed Idarin and they searched for demons that were still alive, but after an extensive search they didn't find anything besides a letter with orders from Devil himself. It seemed it was one of patrols sent by Devil with orders to a huge army of demons stationed only a day from their own camp. Gabriel as archangel from the seventh heaven with the one word "fire" said in ancient angelic, he burned all the demons, and ordered his squad back to camp. They finally got there after about 3 hours of marching, as a patrol they were supposed to only walk, to not alarm their enemies. Gabriel as the patrol commander gave orders to his men to get some sleep, and he went to the commander of the army in the camp. His name was Arius and he was the bloody angel from seventh heaven like Gabriel.
- Nice to see you again my friend- said Arius- How did the patrol go? -he asked with a smile on his face, probably expecting another boring relation, but in good meaning. -And what have you got here ? Let me see - he said taking the dark letter from Gabriel's paw- Those are the Devils orders Arius -said Gabriel- When we were heading back to camp Idarin stayed behind us to check out some tracks he found. We were on our way for quite a long time when we heard him singing our battle hymn. He was attacked by a patrol of demons about four hundred from the first five gates. He killed nearly half of them but took some nasty wounds. We got there just in time. It could of been much worse but we managed to kill them all. We found those orders on the demon who gave Idrian that nasty wound. Arius, they are about a million or more in hell, a gigantic army stationed less than one day's walk from here. - said Gabriel with a concerned look - That is really bad news my friend. When you were telling me what happened Isaac from the west line sent me a message through a mental link, that its the same situation at all lines. We are at war Gabriel. And I don't remember when the last one was. -said Arius with upset look- Prepare for war and let our brothers know we're leaving in 2 hours. Be careful my friend, you're the best patrol leader in here. We don't want to lose you. -saying that Arius hugged Gabriel- Now go, you've got your orders, remember, two hours no more.
Arius showed the exit of his tent and Gabriel left. It was one of those days, not too warm but hot enough that Gabriel was only wearing his blue loin cloth. As an angel his eyes was heavenly blue but he was slightly different from the other angels, his eyes could change colours from the emotion he felt, right now they were red like blood because of frustration of the coming war. He was a trained marksman and with boots of magic he could increase his accuracy to shoot successfully even from three kilometres. His bow was made from steel wood by one of his friends from the patrol squad, he was called Naitus. He didn't need string and arrows to use it because it was enchanted in special elven magic. He fought also on close combat using twin blades, Moon and Sun, enchanted and created by God himself. Moon hit with ice magic and Sun with fire. His wings were bloody red and white, with special transformation magic he could change them into a nice looking red and white robe but bounded to him. Like he was ordered by Arius, he found his squad and let everyone know to prepare for war and that they have about two hours to leave the camp. Naitus headed north, Tera headed south, Idarin to the west and Gabriel to the east. Soon all the camp knew what was going on and everyone was prepared to leave. There were angels both male and female from all heavens levels, so it meant, there were humans, elves, dwarves, leopards, tigers wolves and foxes. Arius with Gabriel were standing at the hill watching the camp slowly setting up at more fortified positions about half a day away from the demons army. Gabriel looking at Arius said with sadness in his voice -It will be a bloody war, many of us will lose our lives- Arius looked in Gabriels eyes -Yes my friend, many of us will die but many more will survive. We are strong Gabriel and not only because of our magic, we will manage to win. Stick together with your squad, care for your men and they will care for you. And no matter what happens be careful out there my friend, don't let them kill you. -saying that Arius smiled and bear hugged Gabriel- Arius I can't breath- gasped the Arctic fox, Arius giggled and realised his friend was having trouble breathing from the hug -Sorry Gabriel- saying that he smiled nervously- It's okay Arius I'll be careful I promise. I'm going to see my squad now. Farewell my friend - Gabriel smiled and walked away leaving Arius standing alone on the hill. -I hope that war will end sooner than it begins- Arius said to himself looking into the direction where he supposed their enemies had a camp. Gabriel found his squad waiting for his leader to move out to a new position. -What's going on Gabriel?-asked Naitus -Yea we all want to know -added Tera- As you know my friends huge armies of demons are going to attack us really soon, the same on west, north, south and west line. It's going to be hard, bloody and long war. I'm not hiding anything my friends, there will be blood and it will blood of our brothers and sisters as well as demons. We must stick together. All for one, one for all. -Gabriel said with glory in the voice- I agree -said Idarin- Me too-said both Naitus and Tera- We are with you Gabriel no matter what- said all three in the same time- Thank you, I really appreciate that. We will need a bigger squad, someone from the other heavens too - noticed Gabriel- That's good idea, in bigger numbers we will be able to kill more demons -said Tera with a big grin, he loved fighting and crushing demons with earth magic- then Let's move to our new place. We will think what to do when we arrive.
Squad move out- ordered Gabriel and all four moved to their new settlement.
