Maiya Station Disaster: Part 1 – Message in a bottle
#1 of AE: Maiya Station Disaster
Well, As I stated in the teaser of this story,
I wanted to do something for Halloween, however, I seem to have a very limited drive when it comes to drawing this year,
so I decided to recycle this story arc with new characters and make an attempt at a genre that I rarely touch upon.
This story was and is an experiment that I am trying, some of it had already failed and has been redone.
this segment is one of the changes that I have made.
*Note/Warning,
While the focus is going to be a Horror story theme, there are going to be a few... sex scenes that I have planned that will be scattered through out the story. though at this point, I'm not sure if they'll make it in or not. We will see.
This is a parallel story to "Ride of the Valkyrie" that takes place roughly 2 to 3 years after the events of the first chapter "Proving Grounds" though this is a very short chapter, not even 1200 words long, however, this is in part due to me not wanting to give away any of the potental story plots from both this and Ride of the Valkyrie.
In this part we see the now crew of of the LCS Valkyrie responding to a messenger probe that was sent from Maiya Station. Things are looking grim when they arrive to a destroyed station and no answers are evident.
"This is Dusine Triss Kunul'ir of the Caushae Sovereignty to anyone who receives this message.
"I am sending this message in hope that anyone who receive this is able to render their assistance as soon as possible. My team and I received a general distress call from the Maiya Deep Space Research a little over three days ago as our ship was in transit to the Artemis Terminal. We had change course to investigate and render what aid we could.
"However, our ship was disabled as soon as we came out of Slipspace and we had to take refuge in the remains of Maiya Station. We are not fully certain as to what had transpired before our arrival. All I can be certain of is that the station has been taken over by an unknown hostile organism and the majority of the personnel has disappeared without any apparent trace. The only recourse that the remainder of my team can come up with is to detonate the station's remaining reactors and try to make it to the escape pods. While this is indeed a last ditch action on our part, the station is lost and our only hope is to survive long enough for rescue to come.
"If any part of the main station remains intact, do not attempt to board it. Destroy it immediately. Whatever this organism is, it mustn't be aloud to spread to any further, even at the cost of our lives.
"I can only pray that you can make it here in time to save us...
"If not... Then... This is Dusine Kunul'ir... Signing off..."
Scraps of debris floated aimlessly in space. The twisted charred scraps of metal was all that was left of the space station that had orbit the local star of Maiya. Now the various pieces of shrapnel were now floating away from where they had once been apart of a massive object in space that housed hundreds of people.
In a blink of an eye, a foreign shape appeared in the blackness of space. There was no Fold aperture, a swirling bright vortex of light that announced a ship's arrival back to normal space from the depths of Slipspace. Just a span of a blink and a ship appeared from seemingly nothingness. The goose like hull of the LCS Valkyrie appeared from nothingness and glided through space like it had always been there. Soon though, the elegant blue ship was assaulted by small and faster scrap metal that was expanding into the system as the ship pushed its way towards the center of the debris field.
"We have successfully jumped back to normal space." The white furred vixen at the helm controls announced with a bit of pride in her voice.
"Good." The black Lykain said as he stood up from the captain's chair. Marus walked over to where Rayne sat in the pilot station. After doing a customary check of the readouts, he reached down and pressed the internal com line. "Attention All Hands, go to alert status Yellow. I repeat, the Ship it now at Yellow Alert. Captain to the bridge." As soon as he made the announcement the alarms on the bridge whooped three times and a soft yellow color light desplays came online to announce the ship status.
"You know," A voice said behind the two Lykains making both of them to turn around and look at their blue avian like communication officer. "I grew up on a spaceship, but I'm not sure if I can ever get use to the way this ship's FTL system works."
"Tell me about it, Trip." Rayne sighed out. "The feel of the ship is so different compared to the older ones. You could tell by the vibration of the deck plates what the ship was doing and when, this ship, like its gliding on air."
"Okay people, stow the chatter." Marus said as he walked over to another station on the bridge and relived the crewman that was sitting there. "We have a job to do and we better get to it."
"Agreed." The snow leopard Caushae said as she walked onto the bridge. "What is the SitRep?"
Marus turned to his station and began working the controls and the feline walked up behind him. "Looks like Maiya Station has been completely destroyed, Captain. Possibly due to the reactors overloading judging by the debris scatter. At most the largest piece is possibly the size of an air bus."
"Any survivors?" She asked.
"Unknown." Marus said with a frown. Being her XO for a little over a year, he already knew what her next question was going to be. "And very unlikely. We're not detecting any lifeforms in the debris field." The Captain's ears folded against her head at the news. Marus turned his seat around to look at her and spoke in a low voice. "Listen Lynnette, it was a long shot to begin with, Artemis only got that messenger probe three days ago. With the travel time that it took the probe to get there, we're looking at the remains of events that has happened over a week ago."
"I know..." Lynnette sighed as she ran a paw like hand through her black hair. "Its just that..." She never finish her sentence. Her stance spoke volumes, the feline was hoping to find something or some one. She cleared her throat and stood up. "Rayne, set a circular course to skirt around the station's debris field and set up a search pattern. We still need to find the station's black box, as well as the Runabout's box too. Trip, Marus, Anoixi. Be on the lookout for any posible signal. I'd like to at least find some of our people."
"I'd like to find our peole, too." Marus injected. "Though we don't know what has traspired here, just the message that Kunul sent out with the probe."
"Agreed..." Lynnette said as she faced forward toward the view screen that had a clear image of the destruction that was caused close to a week ago. She ignored everything around her as her sole focus remained on the picture before her.
The griffin took off the head set that he was wearing and gave a soft whisle. "Hey Anoixi,"
The rabbit looke up from her tactical desplay. Brushing some of the green and blond locks out of her face. "Yeah trip?"
"Mind taking off your boots for a minute so I can rub them? I think we're going to need all the luck we can get."
"Har, har." Anoixi mocked. "You're going to have to come up with something better than that, Trip."
The blue colored griffin clicked his black beak. "You better believe that I can."
"Enough chatter." Marus barked. "We got out tasks, lets get too them!"
Both Trip and Anoixi gave a "Yes sir." before turning back to their consoles.
Lynnette moved over next to the captain's chair and gripped the back rest with her furry hands.
'Just what the hell happened?...' She thought. 'Where are you?...'
