Chapter seven- repercussions

“ After that was nothing. No fight or anything. The other hive just left. My sister and the other dragon, who was one of her lesser children from a quick birth, remained with the hive I was helping. Things remained quiet for a while. I miss the quiet. Anyways as many say nice things do not last."

Ruua looked at the strangers on his land from afar. While it was true he had much more than he could ever desire it did not mean he liked seeing others eating what was his. His sister said it was a good thing to let the predators on his land. That way if hostile little predators would attack him those of the land were suppose to help. He guessed that made sense but he has seen time and again those he thought would help him get meat betray his expectations. He was allowed to lose a portion of his hunting ground but his instincts told him this was for the best. At the very least he knew where to look for trouble.

However when the things called livestock came he became excited. Perhaps they will make food for him and keep it in case food becomes scarce for a time. Especially in the cold time. And his reward for helping the princess was more of the things his instinct told him were important. So he kept those in his cave. So more time passed him by till one day he awoke to a stranger in his cave. This was one of the younger predators. He was surprised one so young was able to scale to his cave. As he looked at the intruder he noticed exhaustion overtook surprise. Exhaustion led to some form of amusement he could not see so he moved forward to the young one. “ I am in dilemma."

The boy stopped hearing his voice. Too tired to move away. “ Why are you in dilemma great dragon?"

Ruua turned his head in both confusion and to better to look at the boy. “ You, I give word to sister I not eat your kind meat again, but you come to my lair. Little one wish my meal?"

Again with the amused noise he heard confused. “ I came here on a dare."

Ruua decides to settle when he decides to talk. “ What is dare?"

The boy looked at him slightly puzzled. “ You know a dare. It kind of like a challenge to one pride."

That made a little more sense to him. “ Passage of adulthood. I heard sometimes a great feat. The greater feat the greater man."

The boy laughed again. “ I suppose you are right."

Ruua looked at him annoyed. “ Remember well. Pride great thing to help overcome great feat, but pride lead many to be others meat. True adult know when pride is good and when bad."

The boy seemed to sober up strangely and Ruua got up. He looked around and took one of his shed scales and handed it to the boy. “ Ruua like talk. If little one wants talk again raise toward sky. If I see it I shall come. We talk again then."

As soon as the boy looked at the scale fully in appreciation Ruua took the boy gently.

Chapter eight- conflict

“ That boy would be the first of many I would call as my talking partner. Over the years of them I have become accustomed to their visits and visiting them. Thou I have had to change how I do it after the first one quite a few times. But one occasion I will never forget."

Ruua felt the power of his scale and sighed annoyed. Sense he was not far away he decided to go anyways and lands behind a rather large man. Ahead of him was fighting among the predators that stopped to his presence. “ What is it little one? This seems a strange time to talk. You seem busy."

The man turned to him with tears coming from his eyes. “ I am Ruua, they have my son."

Ruua closed his eyes saddened a moment before looking around. “ I swore I would not meddle greatly with your kind unless it affected my meat. I know your kind hold your spawn well. So after you do not need to worry."

The man looked both happy and sad as he took his blade ready. “ I know you do not lie."

Ruua nods sad as well. As a moment later it was over. After that he rescued the child by destroying an entire kingdom in the process. From that day forward Ruaa would be known as a Tyrant.
