Chapter five- mistakes
“ At this point I began to look at the predator like insects. A queen will breed a hive to come to her. If left unchecked even for a moment could mean my death. I acted fast. Before the female in the lake could even be ready to go I had return with the three she spoke up. One was in a sleep while the other two were dead. This was an act of one hive trying to get a new queen before it died out I determined. In between the two colonies was my hunting ground. That was not acceptable. Before I went to block the pass I told the female in the lake that if ever she came to that lake and bathed in it at night while alone I shall speak to her again without considering her either meat or a predator. I think that was the biggest mistake of my life.”
Ruua landed just inside the light of the fire for the female to see him. At first he thought she had returned but noticed this one had different eyes and shape. “ The legend was true!”
Ruaa settled in for a talk. He had done this once or twice when that female came before but those talks did not entertain him as much as the first did. Perhaps because the female was pushy. She must have made one hell of a mate he decided when she did not appear again. “ It is said when one of the royal line bathes in this small lake at night when not escorted a sacred dragon will appear.” Ruua looked at the female confused. “ You are not the same one. You look of a queen.”
The female backed away in fear but it was Ruua that was truly afraid. “ Speak.”
The female backed away from Ruua even more and screamed. This was the alarm of the queen he feared of. He became defensive as he prepared for the swarm to come for him. He became confused as the female looked at him in wonder. “ You're scared.”
Those words caught his attention as he backed away out of the light. “ Where is the female from before? I want her not you.”
The female suddenly changed drastically in her appearance. “ My aunt died six weeks ago in a battle.”
Ruua paused to consider this. He moved back into the light to where he was and settles down again. “ I am Ruua. She told me I should be polite to those that come to my lands. As politeness is given is it received.”
The female looked amazed. “ And one hunter can become two for larger meals for them both.”
Ruua nods happy she said that. “ As we are being polite. My meals are large enough with me alone and I have more than my need. If it is meat you need you may take some for yourself.”
She hesitates a moment. “ So you will help then?”
Ruua sighs annoyed. “ I recall she calling this barter. I must receive in return.”
Ruua hears hesitation in her voice. “ What do you want?”
Ruua considers it a moment. “ I will know when I know.”
Chapter six- reunion of the little sister
“ I never thought I would see my siblings again. I worked hard to get so far from others. It increased my odds of surviving. It increased theirs. Still I never thought what happened would happen either. From that day forward my life changed forever.”
Ruua lands with the clutches of meat he had with him outside the queen lair he had met. He had followed her till she returned to her forces and identified the lair by the banners they flew. That of a red dragon on a blue banner. In the background was two spears. He could have gotten her there sooner but that was not the important thing. It was the meat. It took him a little bit to get it and he landed with the meat for them as the princess came to greet him. “ Little one I have brought you meat.”
The princess pauses seeing all the deer and boar surprised. This will feed her army for at least a week. The princess tries to speak to him but he looks in the distance. “ Sister?”
The princess repeats what he says and he looks back at the princess. “ I see my sister in the distance. If she wishes meat I do not mind if she comes to my lands. Will you share the meat I gave you with my sister if she comes?”
The princess pauses again. “ How to put it in a way you can understand.”
Ruua paused hearing that better understanding as he began to see others with her. For him it did not take long for the princesses hive and the hive that was with his sister to stand facing one another in a field. Ruua in the middle of the smaller force by a vast margin. Ruua also sees his sister was not the only dragon with her. Mates he considered. Looking at them they were more likely pleasure breeders. Being half her size did not help their case. The leader of the other hive drew his weapon and pointed it at Ruua and a minute of pause happens. Ruua moves forward as his sister went low bowing. “ Hello sister. It has been a long time. Have you came for some meat? I will not mind to share but it will cause me problems if you attack the other predators.”
Ruua see her growl and she remained slow. As he listened he looked upon the other hive seeing confusion among them. “ Are you in trouble sister?” She remained low as she properly responded. “ Brother, why did you have to come?”
Ruua looked down at his sister confused. “ It benefits me sister.”
Ruua sees she was becoming frightened. “ Please brother, I do not want to fight you.”
Ruua became alert to the to her and the other dragons. “ If you are a predator be a predator. If you are prey be prey.”
Ruua moved forward slowly and the other two dragons start to move. She turns to them. “ Even if we would attack all at once. He will eat us all for his next meals. Do not move without my will.”
One of the two back down as the other charged forward. Ruua got under his charge with ease and got his jaws around the others neck. In one instant after that the fight was over.
