Liam knew he was dreaming. He knew it before he saw Aurora Sitka walking up a mountain path. She usually wore at least a knife belt and shoulder strap, but now she was completely furclad. As she neared the top of the mountain, she stopped and raised a paw, palm up. A beautiful light shone briefly above her palm, then faded. Liam saw a great temple appear, at the top of the mountain a little way ahead. The mountain was Olympus!

Sitka made her way to the temple, up the steps, and inside. The gods were having a party, with Zeus presiding, as usual. The announcer called out, "Aurora!"

Every head turned her way. Zeus looked peeved. Aurora, goddess of the dawn, seemed confused. Hades appeared surprised. The fates were intrigued.

Zeus turned his attention fully on Sitka. The white Bull snorted, "What are you doing here?"

The goddess Aurora demanded, "What do you mean, calling yourself by my name?"

Utterly unruffled, Sitka told the Bull, "I'll get to that in a moment." To Aurora she said, "That's quite simple. I offered that name upon your birth."

Sitka turned her attention back to Zeus. "I am here about a certain mortal family. It seems you have taken an interest in them, and not in a good way. I've been willing to overlook what you've done in the past, but this is really too much. I want you to quit it. Now."

Zeus snorted a laugh. You presume to order me?" He threw a lightning bolt at Sitka. She merely raised a paw at the last moment and it vanished. It didn't disperse or deflect or rebound, it vanished. Zeus looked shocked--and a little scared. "Who are you?"

"Is that any way to greet you grandmother?" Sitka asked. She didn't Manifest, exactly, but she did change. Her jet black fur took on highlights of green and brown. Her eyes changed from black to sky blue with clouds sailing past.

"Gaia?" Zeus gasped, astounded. "How? We..."

"Killed me?" Sitka chuckled and gave Zeus a look that would have made a supernova put itself back together. "Did you think you could get rid of me that easily? You are considered immortal, but I am older than the stars."

The scene froze, and Sitka turned to look directly at Liam, and winked.

Liam awoke, quickly but smoothly, and took a few moments to gather his thoughts. What had he just witnessed? Had the grandmother of the gods come back to clean house? As Liam pondered further, he realized he felt a deep contentment and peace connected with this event. He decided to watch for opportunities to improve his life and his friends' lives going forward. He felt even more certain than usual that they would present themselves.
