An Adventurous Departure
Hello again! I haven't gone anywhere, I just don't have a bunch of new things to show (I do have stuff planned or in endless WIP though ^w^")
So here's something I actually did back in October, my entry for a writing contest hosted on Adalfyre's Discord server!
The rules were simple and the prize enticing, so I started pouring words into Word lol. The contest theme was "Fantasy Adventure", the plot had to be centered around a minimum of 3 keywords from a given list (I ended up choosing Monster, Heirloom, Festival and Oath) and it all had to fit within max 5000 words.
To make it in time for the deadline, I experimented with writing in my native language (Italian) for once, and putting a lot of trust into Google Translate later, making it translate into English paragraph by paragraph, so I could at least give it a quick check for consistency or weird lexicon as I went XD
It definitely seemed to speed up the writing process for me, though I'm curious to know how the submitted short story reads for others... btw, I'm still waiting for the contest winner announcement so fingers crossed, eheh!
Anyway, what I wrote also serves as little background for my OCs Aloysius and Glynne, at least in regards to that one head-canon in which they're both taurs~
Enjoy!
PS: I rated it as Mature to be extra safe due to nudity and love-making happening in the story, but don't expect an erotica piece of literature, just tasteful romance ;P
"How much longer? We've been trotting through the forest for a while now... and my dress is getting torn and ruined in all this undergrowth! If it keeps up like this, I'll have to get another one woven!" said Glynne, struggling to hold up the ample skirt that covered her doe-like lower half... It was indeed almost pathetic to see the centauress awkwardly flounce around in that elegant yet impractical dress for hiking along the hunting trails they were on! Surely a real doe would have had no problem sprinting through the thick vegetation... “I warned you we wouldn't be going for an elegant stroll to the palace, but you obviously couldn't resist the dress…” replied Aloysius, the blond centaur accompanying her; he, on the other hand, was well-equipped in his hunting gear, and despite the more robust build of his equine lower half, he moved much more agilely through the forest than she did. “But what can I do if I only have elegant or evening dresses in my wardrobe! Besides, it's the first time you've invited me to go hunting with you… I've been curious about the idea for a long time, so I couldn't say no, but at the same time, I really didn't know what else to wear! At least I don't look as ridiculous as the dress you wore to my fourteenth birthday party, tehe!” “Hah! So you finally admit you thought I looked ridiculous that day!” Aloysius said, pausing for a moment to turn around with a wry smile… and they both thought back to that day… ~~~“Aloysius, come on, don't stay behind the gate! You don't want to start acting shy today, do you?!” “But Mom, I don't want to go to the party looking like this, ugh! Why you made me wear this outfit?!” “Come on, don't be such a stubborn mule… we had it custom-made for you by the most prestigious tailoring guild in the county, you should be proud!” “Listen to your mother, or I'll have to force you in with a whip like you're a mere nag!” After such a paternal warning, the little centaur had to overcome his embarrassment and step forward, even though each trembling hoof touched the ground uncertainly, almost like a foal struggling to stand right after birth. His long blond hair was gathered in numerous curls at the sides and held in a ponytail at the back with a blue bow, similar to the bow that decorated his literal horse tail or the collar of his white shirt. The sleeves of the shirt, trimmed with white lace, peeked out from under the elegant blue tailcoat on his torso, embellished with gold embroidery; the muffs for his legs were also of similar workmanship. Needless to say, where the dress didn't cover his fur, his cream-colored fur had been meticulously groomed to a shine. The young centaur looked more like a pomaded little baronet, and in such attire, he had to parade behind his parents along the avenue of the palace courtyard of the organizers of the party to which they had been invited… afraid of the gaze of the other guests and even that of the servants, men and women who were in fact much busier with their goblets and trays, trying to keep pace with the noble centaur guests. It didn't help that a little further ahead he glimpsed the birthday girl, the very young Glynne, intent on chatting and showing off her dress to her friends... She was already beautiful in her own right, and the dress flattered her even more, so much so that her friends looked at her with a mixture of envy and appreciation, while Aloysius felt even more out of place! Glynne's cut was more modern as well as majestic, making her look like a lady already despite only turning fourteen. It was a green satin dress with silver and diamond embroidery that blended almost perfectly with the green fur on her lower half and accentuated her curly red hair. The long green satin gloves and halter neckline highlighted the milky complexion of her bare shoulders, dotted with freckles like her cheeks... a delicate addition of apparent imperfection that instead made her even more beautiful. “Woah… a-ahem, happy birthday, Glynne!” Aloysius exclaimed. “Oh, thank you, sir… Aloysius?! Is that you?!” she replied, amazed to find him in such a state, barely holding back a laugh! The little centaur couldn't seem to find his bearings as his face turned red, able to only nod; the redder he got, the brighter the white crescent-shaped birthmark on his forehead seemed to glow. “Oh, but it's not the dress, it's just… I almost didn't recognize you!” she lied, while her friends behind her began to smile too. “Did you see how much stuff they brought for my party? It's going to be a great festival, I can't wait to try out and see all the attractions, there'll even be a show with a Beast-Master!” “A Beast-Master?!” “Yes! And not only that, come and see!” So Glynne said goodbye to her group of friends and disappeared with Aloysius, happy like kids at an amusement park; the two had a lot of fun together and had already bonded for a while now... a bond partly nurtured by their respective families, who always watched from afar, sometimes even making no secret of their wedding plans for the two...~~~ “Come on, it was a white lie. Don't tell me you're still upset about it after all these years! And speaking of lies, are you sure you don't have something to confess to me? We've been wandering through your hunting grounds for hours, and not once have you even picked up your bow and arrow, yet there's been no shortage of animal sightings…” Glynne said, approaching Aloysius to look him straight in the eye and point her hooves; “…and besides, I know you too well: you can't lie… at least not to me, especially when you're staring at me!” Her green eyes stared into his blue ones, which betrayed the centaur's true feelings as he tried to maintain a neutral, confident expression; in replying, he turned again, as if to resume his walk while they were talking… “You’re right as in I didn't really invite you to hunt with me… the intention is to go beyond the boundaries of this reserve, where a fork in the road awaits us…” he replied enigmatically. “A crossroads?” the centauress repeated, trying to keep up. “…a crossroads in our future, Glynne. And in truth, I've already decided on my path; I just wonder if we'll be able to walk it together…” Glynne's heart suddenly began to pound. “Oh dear… is it time already?! I mean, we're both old enough now, and our parents would probably agree, seeing as they talk about nothing else… but it's still such an important moment, and I didn't expect you to want to propose in a place like this… but at the same time, it's such a romantic idea, you and me, alone in this landscape and…” As she was thinking aloud like that, she finally noticed that Aloysius was staring at her strangely with a raised eyebrow, and all her enthusiasm collapsed. “…a-aren't we here for a marriage proposal?” This time it was Aloysius who approached her, looking her in the eye and placing his hands on her shoulders. “Glynne, you know I love you and adore your company, so I wouldn't mind spending my whole life with you… but at the same time, I ask myself: is this marriage what would make me happy? Do I really want it, or would I simply do it to appease our families? You know me well, and you know how much I prefer being here to being in the palace… within those walls, I feel like I'm in prison, and the aristocratic life sometimes seems downright unnatural… we live by labels and appearances, boasting with ideals and ancient traditions… but in essence, who among us still lives according to the old customs of our people, who trace their origins to these woods? Where have the brave centaur hunters of the past gone, living in harmony with nature, free and true of heart? I prefer to live like this than to continue wearing the mask of a privileged lord…” Glynne was impressed by his speech, but it wasn't exactly what she'd hoped to hear, and she stepped back from his hands. "Aloysius, your words surprise me... could you really be so ungrateful for everything we are and have today, after having been raised through a life of comfort yourself? And do you mean to say that even our moments together were fleeting and superficial back then?!" she replied, turning her back to him as if offended, clutching the gemstone around her neck... the gemstone he had given her that day and that she had worn every time she went out with him ever since... ~~~“Oh look, there’s an archery contest, too!” Glynne exclaimed during her tour of the festival with Aloysius. The two approached, intrigued; a centauress with a slender, athletic build, dark skin, zebra-striped legs and a long blond mane entertained and challenged those present. “Come closer! I am Ippolyta from the Wildlands, where mastery of the bow can mean the difference between feast and famine, life or death!” she said, beginning to demonstrate her talent with a series of trick shots, earning the crowd’s amazement and applause. "And now that you've seen my skill, tell me: will I find a worthy challenger in this county? Come on, come forward and try. I'll lend you the bow and arrows; as an incentive, I'll offer a prize to anyone who can score at least one hit! And whoever manages to hit all the targets will perhaps have the right to challenge me, hehe!" she said, holding up a handful of gems to the audience as a trophy before officially opening contest to the public. “Wow, so glimmery! It would be really nice to have even just one as a pendant…” Glynne thought aloud. “Well, after all, it only takes one hit! But I've never held a bow before… Do you think if we go plead together, we can get a little help with the test? You're the birthday girl, after all…” Aloysius suggested, his heart pounding at the thought. “Awww, would you really take a shot for me?” she replied, her short tail wagging with excitement! So as the contest continued, the two timidly went to speak to Ippolyta, who couldn't help but take the opportunity to make a spectacle of it: "Everyone, stop! A new challenger has just approached! A young noble-taur will attempt to win the prize in the name of his lady!" Aloysius, who would have rather disappeared in that situation, found himself forced to step forward while the audience grumbled and watched curiously; in his hands, the bow immediately felt too heavy, and he himself doubted he could even manage to draw it... "By the Gods! This bow is not worthy of its archer! But he must try his noble task! With your permission, let me hold this unworthy bow, while you only worry about drawing the string, aiming, and shooting!" said Ippolyta, kneeling down beside Aloysius to help him with the test. “Three arrows, three attempts, just like all the other competitors!” she finally declared. The first arrow missed the target, but she needed it to correct the position of the bow and whisper secretly to Aloysius how to adjust his aim... The second one grazed the target, causing the audience to murmur in surprise... One last adjustment, but now the shot was entirely up to Aloysius; even with the bow already in position, drawing the stiff string a third time was starting to become tiring! The little centaur practically shot with his eyes closed from the effort; but when he opened them again, he was greeted with resounding applause: he had hit the bullseye! "Hurrah, hurrah!" Glynne shouted with joy, followed by the audience.~~~ “Everything I did for you, Glynne, I did because I love you… and I've always been sincere with my feelings…” Aloysius reassured her, approaching her with a caress, running his fingers gently along her taur back and up her nape. “…and that's precisely why it was important for you to be here today; despite how I feel about you, my heart and instincts lead me away from the palace, to reconnect with nature and leave behind a life that isn't mine… but that doesn't mean we have to part: come with me! I'd take care of you, and we'd be free together and…” “…and abandon everything?! Family, friends, goods, home… to live alone, you and I? And how… like savages?!” she interrupted him, walking away again, more disdainfully; “I don't understand how this is appealing to you... I don't question your feelings if that's how things are for you, but allow me to question your rationality! So don't expect me to follow you in this madness of yours... There, I said it: this is madness!” With that, she began to walk in the opposite direction; her dear centaur tried to dissuade her and explain that abandoning civilization didn't mean becoming uncivilized... but instead she began to speed up, risking further scratching herself and ruining her dress in the bushes! "Keep your forest, your animals, and your hunting; I'm going back to the palace, to feasts, balls, and noble centaurs, umph!" "But you don't even know the way home! You're already leading us in the wrong direction... At least let me guide you first, otherwise we'll spend the night here... and then you could get hurt or have some nasty encounters!" he tried in vain to warn her as the sun approached the horizon; Glynne continued to ignore him and avoid his pursuit as not to hear his voice anymore, unconsciously pushing herself towards the thick of the forest... And then she found herself in an unpleasant situation: at a certain point, she noticed a figure among the trees in front of her... she assumed it was Aloysius, imagining that he had reached her via some shortcut, and she approached him. "All right, all this beating around the bush isn't very productive... but mind you, I'm sticking to my guns, so just walk me back to the palace, okay?" she said, but the figure simply stopped. "Hey, are you even listening to—" She suddenly went speechless, realizing that it wasn't Aloysius, but an Owlbear standing on its paws, now staring at her menacingly! ~~~“Look at that beast!” Aloysius exclaimed; after the archery contest, they had moved on to watch the Beast-Master’s show… a small gnome in a colorful, extravagant costume who looked like he'd just stepped out of a circus. His small stature made his beasts seem even larger and more menacing, filling the audience with wonder: how could such a small man have managed to tame them?! And yet, with a whistle or a wave of his whip, his creatures immediately rolled to the ground, leaped through the hoops, or sat down! “Who knows how long it took him to tame them all!” Glynne thought aloud as they applauded the Beast-Master's latest act, just before he made an announcement: "Attention, please! I am asking my assistants to lead the beasts back to their cages and prepare the arena for one final performance... one that will make all the others pale in comparison! Soon, I will bring forth not just any beast, but a true monster... a terrible creature spat forth from the Underworld to prey on the living… that is before I, Drizzimax, tamed it! For your safety, I therefore advise against shouting and loud noises, lest you reawaken the ferocity of this creature, which I am now about to show you... let the fearsome Cerberus enter the stage!" With these words, a cage, until then hidden under a gray cloth, was revealed and opened, from which a beast immediately emerged, snarling: a huge mastiff with pitch-black fur and two growling heads... it mattered little that the Cerberus of myth was supposed to have three heads, or that it was rather an exotic creature from some distant continent than a monster from hell; for most of the audience, that was enough to inspire awe! The gnome attracted the 'Cerberus's' attention and let it chase him for a while, making it seem as if he could be hunted down and torn to pieces at the slightest distraction... until suddenly he pulled a ball from his pocket: then the hellhound began to wag its tail and bark, becoming a docile puppy for the rest of the show, much to the audience's delight! "Haha, did you see that? He's not so threatening now, tehe!" Glynne laughed. Drizzimax's show continued like this for a bit longer before bidding farewell to the audience and returning his 'Cerberus' to its cage, just in time for the audience to enjoy the next fireworks display organized for the party. "Oh... is it time for the fireworks already? Damn..." commented Glynne. "Why do you say that?" asked Aloysius. "Because I know my parents have organized this as the final event of the evening... so that means the party is almost over..." "Ah... well, let's not miss these fireworks at least! And when the party is over, you'll still have the gem to be together in your thoughts~" he reassured her, and for his tenderness, he earned a kiss on the cheek from her... making him blush all the way to the tips of his ears~! The two continued to enjoy the show along with the rest of the audience, unaware that all that noise was agitating the ‘Cerberus’ inside his cage, just as Drizzimax had warned! Frightened, the poor creature began to thrash until it toppled and opened the cage that held him, immediately starting to bark and run madly towards the crowd! A scream arose, then another, and another, joining in with all the din of the fireworks and fueling the chaos... until everyone began to run in panic back and forth, along with the two-headed mastiff! The two young centaurs ran away together toward their parents, when suddenly... "Oh no, my gem! I can't find it anymore, it must have slipped out while we were running away!" Glynne exclaimed, as her parents dragged her to safety. "I'll take care of it, I'll get your gem once more!" Aloysius offered, but was immediately stopped by his mother, who stepped sideways in his path. "Don't be silly, go to safety with Glynne, it's too risky!" "But, but... we can't lose it now!" he protested, finally managing to slip between her legs! "No, come back here!" she shrieked in vain as Aloysius galloped toward danger to find the gem he had won for Glynne! Searching for the gem was like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack amidst the panicked crowd and Drizzimax's assistants, who were trying to lead the two-headed mastiff back to the cage! But it was now more intent on either escaping the chaos, or trying to bite the heels of the fleeing people... And finally, it set its sights on little Aloysius, who certainly couldn't gallop away as fast as the other centaurs! He regretted getting back there as he tried to save himself... but just then, as fate would have it, a glimmer caught his eye: the gem he was looking for was right there on the ground, in front of him! But at the same time, the beast was closing in on him; if he stopped, it would be the end... That’s when, as if by instinct, instead of slowing down, he continued to gallop, then stomped his front hooves into the ground next to the gem, bending his torso until his arms could touch it while he raised his hind legs to kick... delivering two strong and painful blows to each muzzle of that ferocious mastiff! The fearsome ‘Cerberus’ was thus forced to walk away defeated, while Aloysius was able to return to Glynne with his prize~~~~ “Glynne!” Aloysius shouted, finding her paralyzed with fear as the monster was about to overwhelm her. “Get down!” “AAAAGH!!!” she shrieked, throwing herself down; it felt like her whole life flashed before her as the Owlbear leaped toward its terrified prey… But just then, the beast was struck by two arrows in the chest, fired by the brave centaur behind her! The Owlbear staggered in pain, missing its prey… but even though it was bleeding, it still had the strength to attack, roaring and rearing up for a second assault! But by then, Aloysius had already stepped in, rearing up on his hooves to make himself almost as big as the Owlbear and kicking out with his forelegs, preventing it from getting close to the centauress! Wounded and deterred, the Owlbear gave up on its prey and retreated until it had completely withdrawn into the thick of the forest… “Oh, Aloysius, I was so scared! Thank you, thank you…” she cried, as soon as she had the strength to stand up and hug her saviour. “It’s all right now, come on… let’s try to get home now…” he consoled her, holding her close until her tears dried; only then did the centauress nod and follow him in silence. However, sunset was approaching, and due to her exhaustion and shock, Glynne couldn’t keep up with him for long… so he suggested they stop in a safer place nearby, light a campfire and pitch a tent for the night, so they could recover and continue home the next day. “The fire will keep the beasts away, don’t worry…” Aloysius comforted her. “…and you'll also be there to keep them away, my hero~” she replied, thinking about his courage… “Duty, my dear… Here: your dress is truly in tatters by now, and it might get cold tonight, so cover yourself with this blanket. I'll take care of setting up camp, so I won't peek while you change~” And so they did; but while Aloysius was busy, Glynne was still thinking about that terrible moment... and how brave, strong... and beautiful he was... she had never seen him that way; she also pondered his words as she undressed... Then she realized that it wasn't so cold after all; despite a few shivers, there was a strange warmth in the fresh air that got her nipples hard... but perhaps the heat came from within~ "Glynne, I’m finished with the tent. How are you doing? Can I turn around? Glynne...?" he said. Not hearing a response, he turned around... and was stunned: the centauress was right in front of him, completely naked except for the gem around her neck~! It was the first time he'd admired her body like that, or noticed a slight blush on her cheeks... she certainly looked more beautiful than usual tonight... "I-I thought about your words, you know... and perhaps I judged too quickly, before even giving the idea of reconnecting with nature a chance~" Glynne said, approaching. Her cold fingers caressed his hair and cheeks, then ran down the buttons of his shirt... "Don't you want to be intimate with nature too...?" she asked, and he too began to undress... Once both naked, they spent long moments together admiring each other's forms, touching and caressing each other, warming themselves up... emitting cute moans of pleasure before they began to kiss... and finally, make love~ After a night of rest and passion, the sun's rays returned to illuminate the forest; it was time to leave. "What do you plan to do, Glynne? Will you go home or will you stay with me?" Aloysius asked, cuddling her. She smiled and kissed his lips once more, but there was already a hint of sadness in her eyes. "After yesterday, I've realized two things: that I'd love to stay with you... but I could never live away from the palace for long... please, don't ask me to follow you, even if my heart aches at the thought of knowing you'll be far away from now on! Instead, if your road to happiness truly leads you away from me, at least promise me to carry me with you in your thoughts... that you'll have only me in your heart; I'll do the same, waiting to have you in my arms again whenever you want to come visit me!" "I..." Aloysius hesitated; “…I promise to always keep you in my thoughts… and to never betray my heart” he finally replied. “Hmph… not exactly what I asked for… but I guess I'll settle” she said. She then removed the gem from her neck. “Then take this with you to remember me and our old life together~” “B-but, Glynne, that gem is for you…” “Not anymore… in fact, you've already earned it twice, today is the third time, so YOU deserve it! Should I ever see you again with this around your neck, I'll know there's still room for me in your heart even if we live separate lives…” “All right… I'll keep this gem as if it were a family heirloom then, and a token of love~” Aloysius concluded… …and the two shared one last kiss~
