I wake up with dull throb in my head. Its day time. I sit up from the bed and take a look around the room. Just an empty hospital room. I looked to the right of me to see the window, and the wheel chair sitting in the corner. I look down at the bed and see that I am no longer restrained. I am still hooked up to and IV though. I haven't yet come to full terms the extent of the situation I'm in, its... so surreal. I remember what happened, skydiving and all that, but that would never really happen. I yank the IV that going into my hand and it pulls out with a bead of blood. "Crap! This is not supposed to hurt!" the throbbing leaves my head and goes to my hand, that was definitely not a good idea, I look out to see my home town, er, city, Muncey. Not the most flattering of names but you get used to it, actually, not really. I rub my sore hand a bit more before swinging my legs of the side of the bed. My legs ache like crazy, I have bare feet, but I see my cloths and a chair beside me. I stand up to go change, but my legs beg to differ, my legs buckle under the weight. "uh". My legs fell like jello as I sit there, I can slowly feel my legs again and they begin to tingle, they stiffen up a bit and I can finally get my cloths. I decide to have some decency and go into the bathroom to change, I open the door and see a small handicapped shower to the left and a handicapped toilet in the middle of the room. But, the room seems.... slightly off, I could not tell but, something wasn't right, I just could not put my finger on it. I change back into my cargo pants, T-shirt and shoes, ah, much better, the hospital gown was way to itch to be standard issue. I exit the bathroom and sit back down on the bed, my legs stiffen up a bit more, I remember me waking up in the night, and something about being under for a couple weeks or something. I hear chatter outside of my rooms door, just as I realize that there are usually more then one person in these rooms... The Door begins to open slowly and my heart begins to pound again. My actual situation coming more into focus. The door fully opens and curtains come into the room. I see a figure behind the curtains, pushing the rolling frame into the room, the door slams with a heavy cachunk. The curtains stop to the left side of the bed, blocking my of the bathroom door and obscuring the little bit of doorway to the hospital that I can see. I sit there frozen, I hear a chair being set down as I sit there in silence, waiting for the next move.
"My name is Dr. Milligan, I'm a physiologist at this hospital, and I understand if you are not ready to talk yet."
Minutes pass as we sit in silence, his voice was, it seemed, off, I know, so descriptive, but its complicated and so subtle that normal words can describe it, at least none that I could think of in the moment, But it was obviously masculine. I hear him cough, and obvious sigh of me to talk.
"Ok, fine" The words just shot out, my body not wanting to stay confused about this forever
"Would you like to ask a few questions first?"
"I get the feeling I will learn more be listening to you"
"Uh, very well" I see him shift around and pull out some kind of clipboard
"Do you know where you are?"
"Yes, Muncey hospital" he seemed taken aback.
"What year did you come form?"
"2016" Obviously asking if I was a time traveler.
"What is your name?" I Pause for a moment, maybe I should not use my real name... not wondering why, I chose to just go with it.
"John"
"Do you have a last name?"
"Yes."
"mmmmm" He jots down a hard point onto the pad, I am sweating profusely at the moment, still under an unknown pressure. And then, The doctor Sniffs, once, twice, tree times. A cold sweat runs down the back of my neck. That's not a tad weird at all.
"I understand this must be... scary for you, but just remember that this is all meant to help" Although I had ever once shown a hint of nervousness in my tone, more, curiosity. Could, he smell me? Probably, I was with-ought deodorant for a while.
"Am I in trouble?"
"Well, yes and no, your case, is... Special, you didn't hurt any one, and you where the one fired on, your in no way LEGALY responsible..."
"Go on"
"But, well, your special, so...."
"Your making it sound like I'm Retarded Special-Needs or something"
"No, what i meant to say is that your not the "Average Joe" anymore, of course, suspecting that you where in the first place"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means that there will be quite a bit of potential Culture shock for you"
*Sigh* "Well if your hinting at me thinking I saw a bunch of furries, in suit might I add. Dressed as cops chasing me, then ya, there might be. You guys really are dedicated aren't you?" I hear him swallow quite heavily.
"Well, that's the kicker here, we are, furries"
"Duh"
"No I man we are not in suits" I scoff after he says that. Him obviously being done with my attitude get up and walk from behind the curtain to the middle of the room. And what appears in front of me is a Husky. A blue and white Husky. On two legs. Wearing a white lab coat, with an off green jumper suit underneath.
"What the..."
"I was really not supposed to do this..." His mouth moved, like, moved with his talking, which is hard enough, and his tongue moved to, his eyes where wet and not mesh plastic, and his ears twitched, and his tail moved, and he breathed, and his nose was wet, and he stared RIGHT AT ME. This was beyond the "Deer in headlights". I could feel my face move into a state of shear panic, and confusion and, many, many other things. Never the less, there was panic.
"holyshitholycarpthisisweirdwhatthefuckisgoingon" And the worst part was he just stood there, looking at me. I calm down and I just stare right back at him. Then my curiosity got the better of. I jumped from the bed and walked right up to him. He stood still and kept his head strait at the bed, but his eyes followed me. I walk behind him and take a look at his tail, his brilliantly blue tail, short and curly, and it just, sat there, like a tail, with fur and every thing. A FREAKING TAIL. I began to slightly move, like a tail, and it is one of the many things tails then to do. Other then sit there. And I just stared at it, like a human staring at a tail. I hear the Husk huff, and I knelt down to see his digitigrade legs, I had never seen anything like it, it was, a weird shape, but did not seem that alien to me. His fur was blue and white in the inner calf, at least the calf like muscle. I step in front of him and look at his hands/paws/whatevertheyare and see five fingers, just like mine, but with a different nail, uh, claws, fur on them, and thin pads in the palm and in places along the finger. I move to look at his face, he just looks strait forward, to make it less awkward, his eyes where like mine but a little bit bigger, he had a muzzle and 2 big ears on his head that twitched every once in a while. I'm 6ft 2in, I'm really tall compared to almost every other human that I've meet, but the husky was just as tall as me, I might be out of my league now. I raise my hand up and I feel the short hairs beneath his jaw as i grab it softly and open it, he obliges and opens his mouth, I see his rather long tongue and his rows of teeth, it was a dog's mouth, obviously, I did not know what I was expecting, but it strange and exciting at the same time. I stood there in stunned silence. Just staring at him. He looks at me again.
"Cool!" The husky kept a rather straight face during the combover, but he smiled at the comment
"Um, that was really unexpected chain of events"
"So, you're a husky, or do you go by another name for you, uh, breed?"
"No, husky is the right term. I am suspecting that our cultures are... quite similar."
"I concur"
"Well now that you know..." He sits down on the bed and pats a spot beside him, I go over and sit down, rather closely to the husky. He still has his smile.
"Well after your "Little Incident" The Government did try to take you away, but there where so many people that saw you, no one could keep there mouths shut. The media just exploded with it, you're still the talk of the town. Almost all of the government workers, even scientist agreed that it was against the law for you to look different and cart you away because of it. no one has any, REAL pictures of you but, there are sketches going around, your just to fast for ever one to whip out there phones and take a picture!" He laughs a little bit and I smile at him.
"Any way, we are luck no one caught wind of you at this hospital. So we have no idea how you're educational systems are, so we will need to first quiz you on a few things." He hands me the clipboard he was writing stuff down on and flips to a page behind it. He hands me the pencil and get up.
“This may take a little while but it's not to hard." I nod and he leaves the room. That was a little freaky. A lot to just toss onto someone, welcome to this new universe, with animal people, oh , and they tried to kill you as soon as they see you parachute into a concert, good luck! I stop listening to myself and begin to fill out the paper work. Many of the questions where evaluating me physiologically, have you ever killed any one, have you ever thought about whatever and so on, there where more then that of course, science questions, math questions, personal intrusts, right down to where I lived, of course I left that blank. With ought even signifying it the door opens again and I see the husky walk into the room.
“I see that you are done"
“ya" I hand him the board suspiciously. He combs over it
“Mmm, good, we can now proceed with our plans"
"Excuse me? What "plans"?"
"Well, Since you are different, and you have no "Parents" technically, you belong to the government and we will process you like every one else, and... put you up for an adoption or some sort of foster family, we are still ironing out the details at the moment and we are trying to find the perfect family for you. This would be huge for anyone, so there will be a lot of culture shock"
"I think I can handle it" He roles his eyes
"You would be surprised. Anyway, you just need to lay low as soon as we relocate you. Learn the lingo, social queues cultural norms, stuff like that."
"But what about when I need to get out of the house? Go to collage?"
"We will cross that bridge when we get to it."
"So, uh, um, how are you?" He just stared at me for a second
"F-fine, just under a lot of stress, as of recently"
"Oh"
"Its OK, its not your fault, well, if I screw up our little meeting then I'll loss my head!" He laughed a bit. It helped brighten the mood. His ears perked up and his tail began to wag a bit. He smiled at me
"Anything else you might want to know or do or something before I leave?" My stomach grumbled ironically, protesting about the amount of time I was hooked up to an IV.
"Well, You have any good food? I don't feel like hospital mush."
"Sure thing, we already have something prepared."
"How do I know I won't have a reaction?"
"We tested you blood"
“And did you get anything?"
“No not really" He gets up and walks over towards the door, I see his curly tail swishing back and for and his fairly long fur swish around. He opens the door and gets handed a tray. The door closes again and he walks over to me, He hands me the tray of food. A bottle of water, mash potatoes, Gravy, and... Steak? The steak was cut up into slices, but I still got a cliché steak knife.
"mmm, my favourite, mystery meat."
"Its steak"
"You guys have steak? What... does it come from?"
"Cows."
"Uh, go on"
"Well, most people need to eat meat, yes there are people cows, but there are also dumb ones, which I am assuming you have to, the mill around fields and can't do anything useful. The people cows are a lot smaller, and smarter."
"Wouldn't there bad, like, activists or something?"
"No, not really, some of them actually like the taste of... Anyway, Enjoy your first meal here, and try to relax a bit before tomorrow. We should have your new parents selected" I grunt at his statement. He leaves the room, but smiles at me first. I look down at my tray again and devour it, probably a little faster then I should have, there is a paper portion cups with some pills in it. I take the pills, and lay down on the bed. My mind is flooding with the possibilities. A world of furries, I would have to relearn almost all of my social interaction queues, not that I know a lot to begin with. It's so cool to be here, but scary at the same time, but also weird, being the alien. I always found animals as cute, nothing more, nothing less, more or less. Strangely I never found people... that attractive, I mainly favoured just the personality to people, rather then the body, with of course, made me a little gay I guess. Not that I would ever go into a relationship anytime soon. My mind was still swimming with everything about what had just happened. It quickly stopped as I began to memorize that I would never see my family again. The thought saddened me. I knew that my parents and family would miss me. I almost began to cry, but the pills where a convenient scapegoat as they started to make me drowsy. I fell asleep shortly after.
