This happened pretty much as laid out. I woke up at 1am and wrote this out a week ago.
The Chase
By Kantuck Nadie Nata-akon
Late at night, a series of penetrating yelps and whimpers startles her awake.
"Thunder?" comes an urgent, and forced question as sleep tries to pull her back under. But her determination wins as her hand slides into a mass of soft, black fur. Her other hand flicks on the smartphone to give a bit of light to the shadowed room so she can see her dog lying at her side.
His legs was jerking, and thick tail thumped on the bed. When he growled, it ended in short pants.
Thunder was an older Labrador. His muzzle streaked with white, and his eyes was clouded. His joints ached and his great speed and strength was now a fraction of what he was as a young dog. Although his guardian was pained to see him this way; knowing he'll never be as he was. The vet and her had to settle, reluctantly, on just giving him the highest quality of life they could for as long as needed.
But now, with a smile she covered him with her half of the blanket, wrapping herself around his back as she laid with him. Now - here and now - her pup was back again, and she whispered something not said in a long time "Hi puppy."
What she didn't know, as she fell back asleep, he was indeed the young dog once again. Running though the forests on the trail of a wild deer. A touch on his shoulder made him quickly glance over his shoulder. His tail now wagging furiously, his steps quicken for -
She
His alpha female
The eternal elf who gave him another pack, when his first elf left him.
She who now protected him, keep him warm, kept him fed, stroked and spoken to kindly.
She was with him now, running alongside him.
and he was happy...
