Awakening
I've been running this idea through my head for awhile now. It will introduce two characters that will definitely be mentioned in Devil Watch. They might make an appearance. It will also show Orin's abilities in more detail than I plan to do in Devil Watch.
*Welcome fellow furs, to the first installment of the Faelic Chronicles. My newest story. *
Every time I close my eyes, there's a voice. Sometimes it feels like thunder. One of the few things that set me apart from everyone else, I suppose. Besides, the fire colored hair and eyes the color of dying embers. When I say my hair is the color of fire, I don't just me its red. My hair has red, orange, yellow, silver, pink, and blue all mixed together where it resembles fire. My name is Blaze Drache Enderson. People don't like me. Most people don't believe that this is my natural hair color or my natural eye color. Even my family treats me with disdain.
The voice is still there when I go to sleep every night. I can hear it the clearest when I sleep but even so, I can't hear it very well. It's the dream I have every night that really bothers me. It starts with me walking on solid ground that cracked like ice from the pressure of my footsteps. The certainly didn't look very solid, but it held my weight well enough. The ground was scorched beyond repair. Any plant life that was on the ground was dead and brittle. The sky was filled with smoke and ash and there weren't any stars shining through. Every now and then, Red lightning would shoot out and strike the ground, but no thunder ever came with it. Every so often, a swirling column of fire would erupt from the ground and touch the sky or spiral down from the sky and reach the ground.
I was beginning to think I was crazy. I thought I had to be to dream this up.
"Hello, Blaze," a voice spoke up from behind me.
This is new, I thought to myself. Usually no one was here with me. I turned around, to see who spoke and I couldn't believe what I saw.
It. Was. A. Dragon. A dragon, a dragon that towered over me. I knew I should have been afraid, but oddly enough it felt like we were old friends.
"Ahh, so you can hear me clearly now, can you?" He asked and I nodded, " Good, I've been trying to reach you for a while now." Wait, was he the voice I kept hearing?
The color of his scales matched the color of my hair, but I couldn't tell if they were actual scales or just flames shaped like scales. His fangs were like obsidian and his eyes were like pools of magma. He walked on four legs and his tail was nearly the size of his torso, and I didn't even have a guess as to how big his wingspan was. He kept his neck in a vaguely S shaped formation as he gazed at me with a curious expression.
"Your the owner of the voice I kept hearing," I said. It was not a question. I was certain of the fact now. He nodded in response. "What's your name? You know mine, its only fair if I know yours too." He smirked at the question, " My name is Dragore," he simply stated and in the next moment I jolted awake. As I was catching my breath, I noticed that my room was oddly lit up with a soft light.
I, however, didn't have time to ponder this because someone's voice shattered the silence. "Finally awake, I see."
I looked towards the source of the voice. It was some guy. He looked about nineteen. He had blonde hair, not dirty blonde or strawberry blonde, just blonde almost white hair, and bluish gray but mostly gray eyes. I couldn't place it but there was something off about him. The way he was sitting didn't help things. He was sitting in a chair, but his feet in the chair as well, so it looked like he was squatting in it.
"Who are you and what are you doing in my room?" I asked sternly.
" Orin, Orin Mesotta," He said simply as he held out his hand as if he wanted me to shake it. I didn't even try to move towards him. He dropped his hand shortly after mumbling something about no one's polite these days. "As for why I'm in your room, well I sensed an intense reiku and was curious who it belonged to, and, honestly, I have to say I certainly got here in the nick of time." He spoke with pride coating his voice as he pointed to the wall to my left. I glanced in that direction only to see two school text books of mine smoking, literally smoking, as if they were about to burst into flames. "Your reiku," He stated as if to answer the question I was about to ask.
"It's underdeveloped but even so, it radiates outward with such an intensity that anything in proximity to it can potentially erupt into flames," He explained. I wanted to tell him that that was impossible but I didn't really believe it myself. "I put up a barrier when I got here to prevent your reiku from affecting anything. You're welcome. I hope you understand that as long as you can't control your reiku, you run the risk of burning your house down as you sleep."
I opened my mouth to say something in retaliation, but then he said the one thing that could make me shut up, " You hear a voice in your head and have a reoccurring dream, don't you?" I nodded. "You're a Faelic, same as me. Well, not exactly, since I'm much more than just a Faelic. You can go back to sleep, now. You won't have any dreams and nothing in danger of spontaneously combusting, since I put up the barrier. We'll talk more tomorrow," I found myself nodding as my eyes slowly shifted closed and I drifted into unconsciousness.
Tell me what you think. Did you like it? Are there any places that need improvement?
