part 2 of the artificier

edit... I fixed it some

As suddenly as the door opened it closed behind her and she entered the workshop. Strangely to here there was no light. She could hear things moving but she did not know what or even where they were to her. Every fiber of her being wanted to leave. It was giving her deep cold chills down the back of her neck. Then she noticed that was not chills but sweat. The weather outside had been getting colder getting later in the year and it showed by some already having their winter clothing on but she was not one to have such a thing. She lived with the cold and the hot. She took a deep breath to calm herself and when she exhaled it hit something in front of her. Then she heard a voice. “ Can you not fart in my face. I know it is crowded but show some courtesy."

Jack took a deep breath again. This time let it out more slowly than before. “ Sorry."

Instead of ignoring her glowing serpents eyes appeared in the darkness. The eyes became as surprised as she was as a small light entered the room. She turned to see the caretaker with a candle in his hand then she noticed there was no candle. “ I don't understand? I asked for something to give to the village to help it."

The caretaker straitened up as his cloak came off his head and back. She saw him have simple pants on and no shirt but on his back were the wings. The wings of a dragon. “ Elder? Why are you showing us to one of them?"

Jack turned back again to see something she thought was more likely a dragon that the other. Despite all her instinct to run or hide or do anything she just looked. “ So is he what will help me help the village."

The one awake dragon looked at her angry and annoyed, but most of all shocked. The caretaker seemed pleased and almost looked like he wanted to laugh. “ How observant. Seeing you here not screaming here or pounding on the door to get out or trying to run for your life I can see you pass the second test. Now tell me do you have a birthmark?"

Jack's cheeks went red a little. Partly because how hot it was but mostly because she was a little embarrassed as well. “ I do but."

The somewhat little dragon that was awake at her side started looking her over. She backed away and became even more bashful. “ I'm not showing you. I do not even know your name."

The young dragon became a little insulted but straitened up. “ I am Kilo of the Tou clan."

Jack straitened up as well. “ I am Jacklin Hirntooth."

The dragon bowed to the introduction. Before the question could be asked again she grabbed her pants and slowly pulled them down. The dragon became a little surprised and waited till she was ready for her to look closer and after she nods and hid her face in her elbow Kilo inched closer to her till he noticed the mark. It is the same mark.

“ My my brother Kilotornis. I always knew you were desperate to sniff a woman's crotch but to sniff one of theirs?"

Instinctively he inhaled and that was a mistake as that made him slightly dizzy with her scent. Jack's reaction was to back up threatened to the new awakened dragon. Before Kilo could insult back their elder intervened. “ By the look you have Kilo I tell she does have the mark."

Kilo nods as he laid down to hide the fact his young blood has been stirred. “ Without an approving and closer second look I am not fully but she did have a birthmark and it slightly resembles a dragon."

His elder smiles. “ Good, that is good. Now to find out what to do now."

Kilo looked at her again as she was pulling up the clothing back. By observing she knew they wore things because their body could not handle the cold or elements like his could. With his sister finally up and about and thoroughly embarrassed him it would be harder to find out more about the new face without seeming rude to his family. With his sister disturbed the others of the room began to awaken and the elder had lit a few stands. Kilo looked at the girl more confused than afraid. Tera moved to his side and his brother Jutr to his other. If his brother found what his sister did he would have just thought he was having those urges again that were normal. But with Tera she never could miss a beat to embarrass him. “ Not only sniffing her crotch but getting ready for her. My brother how low."

Suddenly a knuckle landed on the back of her head. If the one it belonged to did not hold back his sister would be harmed instead of stunned. “ Quiet you. This is no time for your pranks."

Tera became teared eyed slightly. She was never treated like this by their mother. Then Kilo noticed the look from the elder. It reminded him that he was the only one that has been introduced. With the scent of her heat passing and the embarrassment doing even more Kilo felt a little more normal as he stood and bowed his head to her. “ Jacklyn Hirntooth, may I present to you others of my clan?"

She slowly nods and he began with his nest sister and brother in the front. Next were his older brothers and sisters who were more to the side of the observing group. To finish there was his mother and uncle. The last protectors of the clan other than the elder. After the introduction Kilo felt he should return to his family but did not when she gently toughed him. “ What was that about earlier with your mother hitting your sister?"

Kilo noticed Tera was about to try to get one last lick in but this time Kilo was the faster. “ She said something stupid."

She eyes him annoyed. Kilo knew he did not lie either so he looked at the elder who had his cloak back on ready to leave. “ I have decided. Kilo come to my place after the goods are unloaded. You Jacklyn."

The girl interrupts. “ If it is fine call me Jack. Everyone else does." The elder nods obviously under his cloak.

After the elder and the girl left the lot of them went back to sleep. All but him. Lingering memories of her scent and body reminded him of his young desires. He was the age to be curious but was neither the size nor the strength to even consider trying for the courting circles. Unless one from another clan came to him and negotiated a one night event to a permanent mating. Being part of the Tou clan did leave him to being important and as such desired but not enough to rely on that alone. He has not lived and worked long enough to make his hoard sizable. Only a stable income any mate he would have would count on. For some that would be enough for a while but never over a lifetime.

Especially one as long as his will be. It was not often a dragon would move to see the outside world. He moved to the screen that blocks the outside from the in and looked out of it. What he saw was the fall feast. The feast at the end of the years harvest and this one time a year they were gluttonous themselves as if to be a sacrifice. He did not understand the rituals or customs as much as he liked but he also understood he and his clan needed them. They provided security and supplies to them and the other clans. Even if they did not know it. Kilo was looking outside till it got dark and he did not notice another was behind him till she spoke. “ At first I was like this with your father."

Kilo looked up to his mother a little surprised as she continued. “ I waited days on end looking out this window waiting for his return. He won the right to call me mate and even thou he left right after being with me for you and the other two I never stopped waiting. Till I heard what he has become."

Kilo lowers his head knowing the stories as well. “ He is no father to you because he chose bonding to a human hunter in exchange for his own life. If ever you would meet he would slay you son or not."

Kilo looks up to his mother shedding a single tear looking outside as well. As if still waiting. “ What was he like, I mean before."

She looked down on her son. None of her children with him had ever asked about their father. “ He was strong, proud and arrogant and he was cocky enough to challenge to have a mate in the Tou clan and lucky enough to succeed. Yet the time we were together. He was kind and gentle. And I know the truth as well. If he had a brood with anyone else then they would have been drawn in his clans blood feuds. But he left to never see his spawn and never know their callings." The tear falls from his mothers jaw and lands on his nose. The scent of her sadness was easily identified by him. “ And?" She looks down at him. “ His name of course. I never told any of you his full soul name."

After leaving the workshop with the caretaker. She was tempted to speak to him about what was going to happen now. Instead her mother came to her. The shock and surprise she was under astounded Jack. That however did not last as she had Peters and Timbers with her. “ As you promised daughter. You shall marry one of them now chose."

Jack looked astounded at her mother. If she could not better her own life then she would not let her have any better than her herself. “ The laws of the village state she is an adult when she receives a ticket is she not? As an adult she has the choice to break a promise she made for whatever reason she chooses."

A shock wave went threw the people listening and watching. As if none of them had ever have heard the caretaker speak. However Jack was listening more than the others. “ Sense I got my ticket all anyone wanted from me is either in my pants or to me to get in someone else's. Mother I do not care if you disown me I am not marrying."

Her mother became furious and rose to strike her but for the first time in her life Jack knew something else. Something more. “ Strike me now and I shall not share what I have for the village." Her mother paused remembering what Jack asked for. That she asked for something to help the village and it was hers to use as she sees fit. Her mother seemed to turn humble as she backed away. “ Of course my child. Anything you desire."

Her realization that she held the key to making the village a little better made them all start to respect her she thought, but then she realized it was fear not respect. She held power over them as how everyone had always had power over her. For a moment she considered being selfish like when she first asked for what she wanted. Then she realized she would be no better than them or all the others that came before her like her father. No what she wanted was freedom from that. But she had to be careful. “ I have passed the caretakers tests and he has agreed to give me what I ask for but what I ask for is so great it will take time. Till it is ready. Till I am ready to give it to you you must wait."

She then turned back toward the caretaker and by a faint shadow she could seen as a faint smile on his face.

That evening there was a feast as there always was. Jars of her mothers stew were warmed as those of the animal farmer brought a pig and the huntsmen brought game. The baker bread and butcher prepared the meat as the wives of the men cooked it all. Not her. She was sat beside the village leader with his annoying son. The subtle glances from his father warned the boy to show respect as if someone over them had appeared. Jack wondered how she got herself into this situation. How this young woman was being treated like a priestess but is no more than a dirt farmer. Only higher in standing than a whore or a thief and just barely. The night ran late and all she could think about was the ones in the workshop that was missing this feast. It came to her that it was them they should be honoring and not her but she knew there was nothing to be done. As long as she was there she did not eat much but the stew. The pieces of meat and whole vegetables she left on the plate.

None argued when she took them with her and none argued with her when she returned to her home. Where signs of her mother was already using the fact she birthed her to her advantage. She cared for her as a daughter but never loved her. Her mother was out so she went under her bed and got the only possessions of hers she could claim hers without being given to her. The knife she earned while working at the smithy and the wood she gathered herself. She took the plate and the box and left. It was not hard to leave the village. Most were still partying and getting drunk. Those few who did see her were either too drunk to notice her, to cautious to incur her wrath or did not think it would be her that had the gift for them by the clothing she wore. The village was small but not small enough that everyone knew everyone.

So she had slipped away in the night not sure where she would be going. She just knew they loved her for the gift she had for them. Some way up the trail leading to the caretakers home she stopped. Something was warning her she was not alone anymore. Was it a drunk man wanting to have their way with her or her mother who spots her golden hen leaving the nest. To her relief it was neither but Kilo. He showed himself to her and she smiled. “ Hello Kilo."

Kilo nods. “ Jack, what are you doing out here?"

His voice seemed a little colder than before. “ I was going to the caretakers place."

Kilo relaxes. “ Was something wrong with that?"

Kilo slowly shook his head. “ No, but it is dangerous outside the village. You should not be alone."

Jack became disappointed. “ I see. Now I have you here I am not alone now now am I?" Kilo paused. She was right. “ No, I been following you sense you left and so were a few men. They lost your trail some time ago so I came to see you safe."

Jack smiles. “ Thank you for that."

Kilo turns his head away slightly. If Jack did know better it seemed he was blushing. “ Still even with me it is not safe and it was not wise to bring food with you. Why did you?"

Jack looks at the plate in her hand. “ Oh, I just thought he would like some."

Kilo's eyes glimmered in the darkness. She was a gentle and caring soul with no thought of any dangers of her actions. “ I see. We usually clean up after the feast. The food and the cleaning will be done by the time dawn comes and most are over their drunken stampers. He never usually gets any however. Come I will lead you so the others will not attack."

Kilo led her threw the forest. It annoyed him to walk so much but for her it was worth it. It did not escape his notice that she had started noticing the others watching them as they moved. Even with his protection he was not sure if someone of another clan with a grudge would attack or not. He felt relieved as none did and they came to the home of the Artificier. The most important one there is. He took his knuckle and tapped the door before laying to the side. “ Come sit by me. We may have to spend the night out here."

Jack slowly moved carefully to not step on him and accidentally used him to lower herself and he did not mind. “ I am sorry if I am putting you in any trouble."

Kilo raised his head. “ The others of the tribe understand. The elder has given you his blessing and as a Tou it is my blood oath to protect you."

Jack relaxed against his warm body. She was cold and he wrapped his body around her as she put a wing over her back to leave her head exposed. With this he has declared her under his protection and to war with him was to war with the entire Tou clan. To war with the servants to the artificer himself. In the darkness he could hear mockery and curses of those nearby in his own tongue. As she drifted into sleep and as he watched over her the scent of her in heat escaped her and breached his senses again. The desire he had back in the workshop he began to have them again. He shifted slightly and she took it to him getting comfortable but in fact the opposite. He knew he had to lay that way for several hours. And as those hours finally passed and the dawn broke the door finally opened. He had been resting and waiting for anything that he almost jumped to the Artificier's greetings. “ Young one. Why are you not with the others?"

He then noticed Jack under her wing. He smiled as he lowered his hand to wake her as Kilo lifted his wing. “ Morning young one."
