Taint, Chapter 12
Brett works a retail job, but he is an aspiring video maker. Looking for a good story to investigate for his channel, he stumbles across reports of "real life werewolves" on various places on the web.
Chapter Twelve - Like and Subscribe
Brett sat at his computer scanning through a web forum. It was the third one he'd been on since he got home from work about two hours ago.
This is crazy, he thought as he copied some of the forum posts to a text document, this has got to be the most elaborate hoax I've ever seen.
His sister, Denise, poked her head through the half-closed door. There was a strong resemblance between the siblings, both having the same nose and chin, not to mention soft brown hair and blue eyes. Their similar heights only increased their resemblance.
“Hey, Brett,” she called, “got a minute?”
He turned in his computer chair. “Yeah, what's up?”
“I was texting with Rebecca, her car is in the shop for the next few days, I was wondering if you could be her ride to Box-Mart? She said she's scheduled on with you.”
“Yeah sure, I don't mind. Would I be picking her up from home or school?”
“Home tomorrow, but school the day after.”
“Alright, I'll see her tomorrow then around noon.”
“Cool,” Denise started to text back Rebecca, “So, what are you doing anyway?” She said looking at the windows opened across his two monitors.
“My next video, it might even end up being two videos.”
“And what is Mr. Hound842's next in depth investigation on?” His sister smirked.
“Real life werewolves.” He smirked back, crossing his arms.
Denise dropped her smirk. “You're kidding.”
“I think it's some kind of a giant hoax or maybe some kind of marketing ploy, but yeah, on some of the backwater sites on the internet there's a lot going around about it.”
Denise laughed. “Anyway, I'm sending Rebecca your number so she has it.”
“Honestly, I'm surprised she doesn't have it already,” Brett shrugged, “I better get back to work, I've got a lot of research to do.”
“Well, good luck Mr. Hound842.” Denise closed the door behind her as she left the room.
Brent sighed before clicking on a link to another site.

Rebecca was waiting outside her parent's house. When she saw Brett pulling up she waved and quickly jumped in his car.
“Thank you so much for picking me up.” She smiled broadly as she buckled in.
“It's not a problem,” he said with a smile, “who knows, it might be my car next week in the shop and I need a lift.”
Rebecca laughed as she buckled herself in. Brett couldn't help but notice how different she looked.
“Hey, have you started working out?” He asked as they pulled away.
“Sort of,” she shrugged, “is it obvious?”
“Ah...” He wasn't sure how to respond.
“I'll take that as a yes,” Rebecca giggled, “it's ok, I know I worked off a few pounds.”
“Are you growing out your hair too?” He said, noticing her blond hair was pulled back into a simple ponytail and longer than he ever remembered seeing it.
“Yeah, a bit,” she shrugged, “I figured I was due for a bit of a change.” Rebecca tilted her head slightly, “what do you think?”
“You're looking good, “he sighed, “I could probably do with a haircut and shedding a few pounds myself.”
“Maybe then you would get on camera.”
Brett blinked. “You've watched my videos?”
“Yeah, I think it's cool how you do the internet detective angle. Besides, I think you're the only person I know who makes real videos, not just home movies from their phone.”
“Thanks, it means a lot hearing that in person.”
“Have any spoilers on what your next video is going to be on?”
“Real life werewolves,” Brett made the air quotes with one hand.
With his eyes on the road he didn't see Rebecca's smile drop.
“What do you mean?” She asked, trying to sound neutral.
“I've found these postings on some forums about werewolves popping up, and there have even been pictures.”
“Probably just costumes or, ah, photo-manipulation,” Rebecca said dismissively.
“Probably, yeah, but either way they are very professionally done. I'm looking into it, but I personally think it's some kind of a viral marketing campaign for a movie or TV show.”
“Or you know,” she managed to put her smile back on, “could be real wolves getting caught on camera.”
Brett laughed, “Yeah, I'm sure that's what it is.”
Rebecca smiled to herself as she looked out the window.

Brett's day went pretty much as expected. It was just an average day working the midday shift in the electronics department. He saw Rebecca a few times during his shift as she went about her duties stocking shelves. She smiled and said something every time she went by. Brett had known her for years, but he didn't remember her being so friendly with him before.
Probably because you did her a favor, that's all, He thought to himself after she moved on past his department.
When Brett’ss shift was finally over, Rebecca was waiting for him by the time clock.
“Hey,” she smiled as he swiped his badge, “have a good day?”
“I've had worse,” he smiled, “are you ready to go?”
She nodded and they went to leave the employee's lounge.
“Hey Brett, want to grab a burger? My treat.”
“I don't mind stopping, but you don't have to pay for mine.”
“It's the least I can do, you really helped me out here.”
“It's really not that big of a deal, I mean you're hardly a stranger.”
“You're a good person, you know that?”
“I try to be, dealing with jerk customers kinda drives that home.”
“I think it's more than just that.”
The burger place shared a parking lot with Box-Mart, so they just walked to the restaurant. Brett tried to pay for his meal, but Rebecca wouldn't have any of it. They sat down in a corner of the dining room at a small table.
“So,” she said as she unwrapped her double cheeseburger, “I've been thinking about your next video topic on and off while I was stocking shelves.”
“Me too, I even did some research at lunch on my phone.”
“So, what have you found out so far?”
“I know it's not just limited to one area of the country. It seems to be popping up all over.”
“Really? Anything local to us?”
Brett shook his head. “I wish I found one that was local, then I could go track down the location and investigate it in person.”
“Careful there, you won't be safe behind the screen,” she leaned forward and whispered, “a wolf might get you!”
He laughed, “For a story like this, I'd take that risk.”
“Careful what you wish for,” Rebecca grinned before taking a bite out of her burger.

The more Brett dug into the story, the weirder it seemed to get. There were reports from all over the country. He was unable to find any evidence of doctoring the images, so they must be some kind of physical suit. But then, he looked at an image with a good shot of the feet, or rather paws.
How the hell did they do that? There's no way they could squeeze feet into that...is it an amputee in the suit?
There was a knock at his door.
“Come in!” He called, saving the picture.
His mother came into the room. “Hey hun…”
Brett knew from her tone and body language she was going to ask him to do something.
“Hey, is everything ok?”
“It's your grandma, she needs help getting set up in her new condo.”
“I thought she hired movers to help with that?”
“She wasn't too happy with them on the move, I know it's your days off, but no one else can help her with this.”
“I'm not going to say no to grandma,” Brett sighed, “I might as well just spend the night out there.”
“Thanks hun, I'll go and call her now and let her know.”
He turned back to his computer wanting to get as much done before he went to bed for the night. As he was reading an in depth analysis of one of the photos Brett heard his cell chime with a new message. He wasn't expecting to get one from Rebecca.

Brett didn't mind helping his grandma with getting settled into her new condo. He enjoyed spending time with her, and she certainly fed him well. He just wished she wasn't a two hour drive from his mom's house. The break from his investigation might delay his next video, but it gave him the energy to dive right back into it. Brett pulled into the driveway just as the sun was setting. He gave his grandma a quick call to let her know he was back safe. It was as he was grabbing his bag off the passenger seat that he noticed Rebecca's car parked out front.
This wasn't that unusual. Denise and Rebecca had been friends since middle school. Brett shrugged and headed up the walk. He was surprised when his mom opened the door before he had even reached for his key.
“There you are!” She had the biggest smile on her face as she pulled him into a tight hug.
This was the kind of greeting he got as a kid coming back home after summer camp. As Brett awkwardly hugged his mother back. He noticed something was different about her.
“Ah, thanks mom, I missed you too.” He said as he pulled away.
He looked carefully at her. She looked good, almost younger, at the very least more vital. Was her hair longer? She hadn't died it, the gray strands in her soft brown hair were still there. She seemed firmer somehow during the hug for lack of a better word.
“Something wrong, hun? She said, her smile dropping slightly.
“No, it's just you're looking good.”
“Thanks,” she stepped aside and let him in, “you could say the girls and I had a makeover session while you were gone.”
“Ah, well at least you guys had fun while I was away.”
His mother smiled oddly. “Yes, lots of fun. Did you have dinner yet?”
“No, I just wanted to get home.”
“Perfect then, I'll go get started on that.” She leaned in and kissed his cheek.
“Thanks mom, call me when it's ready.”
Brett tossed his bag on the bed and knocked his computer out of sleep mode. He was just about to sit down when he heard a knock. He turned and saw Rebecca at the door. She was apparently still in her pajamas, a white tank top and plaid sleep pants. She was holding two glasses of iced tea in her hand.
“Hey welcome back,” she said, “mind if I come in?”
“Go ahead.” He said, trying to sound as casual as possible.
Rebecca walked in, closing the door behind her with her foot.
“I thought you might be thirsty after your trip.” She said, offering him one of the glasses.
He was a little thirsty, and iced tea was his favorite drink. Besides that, he didn't want to be rude.
“Thanks.” He said, taking the glass.
Brett thought he saw a strange look in her eyes as he took a sip, but dismissed it almost immediately.
"Is this where you make your videos?” Rebecca asked, moving towards his desk.
“Yeah, nothing too glamorous or fancy.” He said, pulling out his chair to sit.
“I don't have two monitors on my computer, so it's a little fancy.” She giggled standing behind him.
“Yeah, I need the space.” Brett flicked the monitors on. “This is what it looks like when I'm doing my research.” He took a long drink before setting the glass down on an old coaster.
“Hmmm,” Rebecca looked at one of the pictures he had open, “so any new theories on what's going on?”
“Man, I have no idea. I can't find so much as a ghost of a rumor about a werewolf property in Hollywood. And then there are the costumes, I mean look at this,” he pulled up another picture, “How could someone fit their feet into that?”
“Could be a clever photo edit, no shortage of those on the internet.”
“Everyone who has looked at the pictures can't find the slightest bit of digital manipulation. Whatever it is, it is there physically. And there are so many sightings. If this is some kind of hoax they deserve a reward for it.”
“Wow, do you always get so into your investigations like this?”
“It depends. This is fascinating, I don't know how I'm going to put this together, but with all of this it's evidence of...something...I...” Brett started to squirm a bit in his chair.
Rebecca smiled slightly. “Isn't the least complicated answer usually the correct one?”
“Yes, but I don't see how that applies here.” He tried to scratch without drawing attention to himself.
“The simple answer is that the wolves are real,” she moved to the side of his chair, “although they're trying to keep a low profile, in today's world of smartphones and the internet they are getting caught out in the open and talked about online.”
“Of course, werewolves are real, how silly of me,” Brett rolled his eyes.
“You're looking at the proof right in front of you,” she pointed to the screen, “but let me guess you won't believe it until you see it with your own eyes.”
“Pretty much, yeah.”
“Alright then,” Rebecca grabbed the hem of her tank top and pulled it up over her head.
Brett stared at the now bare chested woman. “W-what the hell are you doing?”
“Taking my clothes off,” she smirked before pushing down her sleep pants leaving herself completely nude.
“Rebecca, stop! My mom or hell, Denise will-”
“Oh, they won't bother us.” She smiled and closed her eyes
As Brett watched her body started to grow. Her now powerful body was quickly covered in blonde fur, much the same color as her hair. Rebecca grew taller as her feet shifted into paws. Her ears grew longer and shifted up to the top of her head. Rebecca's face grew out into a long muzzle tipped with a black nose.
She opened her mouth and let out a long sigh and Brett could see her long teeth. Even though he pressed himself into his computer chair, he couldn't look away as he watched Rebecca transform right in front of his eyes. Her shift completed, she opened her blue eyes and smiled down at Brett.
“Do you believe it now?” Rebecca said leaning over him in the chair, “Or maybe you want to touch me, just to make sure?” She leaned in close, whispering into his ear, “go ahead...”
Brett shakily touched her arm. He relaxed slightly when he felt how warm and soft her fur was.
“How's that itch?” She whispered again.
“Going away...wait! How did you-”
“We all get the itch before we shift for the first time.” She slowly licked his cheek.
He pushed away on his chair, almost falling over.
“Relax,” Rebecca placed herself between Brett and the door, “you're already one of us with all the essence you drank,” she motioned to the ice tea with her muzzle.
“Wh-what are you talking about?”
“Brett, I want to share this gift with everyone I care about,” she started to slowly move towards him, “and I have always cared about you. I’ve had a crush on you ever since we were kids. But you are Denise's brother. I was always afraid of losing her if I pursued you..”
Brett blinked. “Really? I never...” he shook his head, “this has to be a dream.”
Rebecca rushed him, pinning him up against the wall with her furry body, “No dream, I'm a wolf, you are about to become one, and I want you.”
Something much different than fear started to edge into Brett's consciousness. Rebecca felt so good, pinning him against the wall, he wanted more, he wanted to pin her down. He was breathing heavily now, and was having a harder time trying to think. His body was flushed with heat and images of having his way with the wolf kept flashing through his mind. Without thinking he started to kiss the wolf. Rebecca released his arms and immediately they wrapped around her, holding her tightly.
“That's it Brett, just give in!” She nipped at his neck making him moan loudly.
Brett's body was tingling. He felt hot and his clothes were getting tight. He pulled off his shirt, barely getting it off his chest. Rebecca went for his shorts, forcing them down past his much bulkier legs. Brett kicked off his shoes as he pushed her back to his bed. He started to nip at her neck, his moans shifting to growls. Her claws running down his bare back only further pushed him on. Brett grabbed her by the hips and plunged into her slit to the hilt. Rebecca let out a yip, but smiled wrapping her legs around him as he thrusted. Brown fur was sprouting up along his back and chest. Bones started to pop and shift as his feet transformed into paws. Brett's ears grew pointed and shifted up his head, twitching as they did so. A pressure at the base of his spine began to build and soon a furry tail grew out.
Brett was growling with his thrusts now. Rebecca dug her claws into him, pulling him tightly against her body as his face started to change. As his jaw and nose grew into a muzzle it was quickly covered with fur. Brett threw back his head and howled with his climax and was quickly joined by Rebecca. She pulled him down tight and held him, nuzzling his neck as the memories took hold. Brett breathed deeply as his change came to completion.
“Brett, how do you feel?” she asked softly.
“Weird,” his voice sounded deeper in his wolf form, “but good, I think.”
Brett pushed himself up slightly and looked down at her. Rebecca touched the side of his muzzle and smiled.
“I knew you would be a handsome wolf.”
“Did you mean it? I mean, about having a crush on me?”
“Yeah,” she smiled, “I just didn't know how to tell you. I also didn't want to make things weird with Denise.”
Brett's ears canted forward. “And you making me a wolf won't make things weird?”
She giggled. “You think I wouldn't share this gift with my best friend?”
“I...” before he could figure out what to say there was a knock at his door.
“You cubs done in there?” He heard his mother's voice call out.
“My mom too?” Brett said, rolling off of Rebecca.
She just smiled, “come in, Yvette.”
A pair of female wolves walked into the room, both wore smiles along with their fur. His mother's coat was flecked with gray, while Denise's was similar to Bret, down to the darker shading around the hands and paws. Yvette walked right up and pulled Brent into a hug, even tighter than she had when welcoming him home.
“Mom...” He sighed but hugged her back.
“I've always been proud of both of you,” she said, glancing between her children, “I always knew you two would grow up strong in your own ways. Now you have the bodies to match.”
“Yeah, look at you now,” Denise ruffled his now longer hair, “not a wimpy nerd anymore.”
“Hey, I don't insult your hobbies.” But he couldn't be too angry at her.
“No, you're a buff nerd now,” Rebecca scratched behind his ear, “and that's exactly the way I want you.”
He leaned into the scratch before looking back over at his computer. His shoulders sagged a bit, “I guess I'm going to need to find a new story to write about...Oh crap!” Brett quickly turned to face Rebecca, “I'm sorry I kept saying werewolf, I didn't know!”
“Oh hush,” she leaned over and licked his cheek, “I know you didn't mean anything by it.”
“Still, I'm sorry,” he said before returning the gesture.
“You must be starving by now, why don't we get some dinner?” Yvette said motioning towards the kitchen with her head.
“I know I'm hungry,” Denise said, her tail starting to wag, “I hope you have enough food for four wolves, mom.”
***
Later that evening Brett was back at his computer, relearning how to type now that he had claws. Rebecca was on his bed studying and trying not to giggle as he cursed at his typos. She eventually closed her book and walked over behind him.
“So, what are you working on then, have you found a new story yet?”
“Not exactly,” Brett said as he stopped typing.
“What do you mean by that?”
“Here's the thing, if I just abandon the story, someone else, probably multiple people, will just follow through and still write up a blog or make a video about it.”
“I guess that could happen, but what are you going to do, break the news that wolves are real, and by the way, you're one too?”
“No, and I'm not going to claim it's all a hoax either. I'm going to leave it as a mystery as to what is going on, but still report on it. Get people thinking about it.”
“Why?”
“You said it earlier. In today's world we aren't going to be a secret forever. I want humans to start thinking about it, the first step to them accepting us as part of the world.”
Rebecca put her hands on her hips. “You just don't want to be late with your next video and throw away all that hard work you did.”
“Ok, that is a factor as well.” He smiled back up at her.
“You're not going to spend all night on this, are you?” She let her claws run through the fur across his chest.
“I do have a responsibility to my subscribers...” Brett smiled, enjoying her touch.
“Hmm, are you really going to choose working on a video over hot sex with me?”
“I could do with a little break,” Brett said, pushing his chair back from his desk.
“Good answer...” Rebecca said, pulling him up out of his chair.
