August sighed, he discovered that there are just too many pests in his farm than usual. What a shame, too, since he confirmed beforehand that the soil around this area is discovered to have extremely good qualities for crops. Those stupid pests seemed to have noticed this as well, and treated all the crops he planted as if they got free tickets to an all-you-can-eat restaurant.

He started having second thoughts whether he did the right thing by buying the rights to this place immediately after discovering the great news. No matter what he did, those stupid parasites would come around, way faster than expected too. August slapped his cheeks as he sighed, "Well, no use being pessimistic. Let's try setting up those scarecrows around the farm..."

August is a craftsman of sorts. The farmer likes tinkering with technology as well as making his own furniture. After finding out he bought a bit too much building materials than expected as the construction on his new farm was getting close to completion, he decided to repurpose these with the leftover materials in his old place by crafting his own scarecrows. August did not have the time to plant them at his old place before the move, sadly. Well, what better way to finally put these creations to use?

August walked around the field, determining the perfect spots to cover the entire farm as he fed the chickens, milked the cows, and brushed the horses. As the sun sets, he started planting the feet of the three scarecrows deep into the soil and covering them up afterwards. August chuckled at his scarecrows, "Well, Brock, James, and Rocket, I guess this is your new home now. Hope the pests won't be an issue for you guys." The crafty farmer had grown attached on his inventions, that he decided to name the three scarecrows over Pokemon references.

Rocket was designed with Blastoise in mind, having a tortoise shell on its back and two cannons jutting out of it. The farmer took his time forming the scarecrow with the straws so that Rocket has a turtle-like face and a short tail on the back.

James was made based on Incineroar. August was very proud on how the fire belt looked, since he made sure to assemble the straws in such a way that some of them would resemble flames. He put the same effort as he formed the claws, the long tail, and the feline face.

Last but not least, Brock's design was inspired by Koraidon. Even though August had not caught up with the latest Pokemon stuff, he saw a bunch of those cute artworks of this new Pokemon enjoying the sandwiches, so he decided to take on the challenge. The scarecrow got its straws reshaped into plumes and an antennae on its head, webbed feet and hands, with a long reptilian tail. August admitted that the chest tire part took a very long time, but it was all worth it because of how realistic it looked at the end of it.

August laughed as he entered his house to get some rest. "This sure is one interesting looking farm, but what the hell? Folks complaining can go fuck themselves!"

...............

It worked. It actually worked! For the past few weeks, August was surprised that there were just no pests in sight. Another interesting change was how excited the farm animals are when they are taken out for the day to graze the field. August did not need to lift a finger at all now, he just needed to open the doors and the animals would charge right into the field. He did notice that they would enjoy walking around the three scarecrows as well throughout the day without eating any of the crops too.

August didn't think much about it. "Might just be the good news coming up after that painful month," he murmured. Besides, it felt nice to be able to relax more. The farmer finally got more time to do his crafting hobbies, and doing some maintenance on the farm as well as the scarecrows from time to time.

That said, August swore that he is getting more forgetful, and he hated it. There were days where he noticed that some of the crops have been watered, but he didn't remember watering them beforehand. Some of the fertilizer bags have been moved back to the storage as he finished up. However, with how busy he was with his farm work and negotiating with folks buying his farm products, he waved it off, thinking that he must have done them earlier beforehand.

The farmer notices something during one of his maintenance days as well. He glanced a bit on the ground covering the scarecrows' feet while he was patching Rocket up, and it looked a bit more... disturbed? "Seems like some of the animals decided to play around with them or something?" August shook his head, and decided to patch up the soil and move on with his day.

Life has never been better, and August just can't wait for the harvest season.

.........................

One Autumn night, August felt that something was... off. The night is a calm one as usual with the usual colder breeze hinting that it's almost Winter. However, he felt like he was being... watched? Maybe one of the delinquents?

He decided to patrol around the farm one more time, just in case.. August took some deep breaths, and grabbed his trustworthy shotgun and flashlight. He made sure to lock his house before stepping out, the farmer hoping that he was just being paranoid.

August was on his way to check on the chicken coop, until he saw... three figures wearing black cloaks, lurking around the pumpkin patches, staring right at him with... glowing eyes?

"What the hell are you fucks doing in my farm!? Get the fuck out!" August shouted, pointing his shotgun at them. The figures did not answer, and August froze when he saw them more clearly with the help of his flashlight and the moon.

Pale skin, bony figures, deranged faces, and he swore he saw... fangs? Something's not right, he felt murderous intent out of them. These... things started moving towards the farmer, and August fired his shotgun at one of them.

He screamed when he saw the figure stood up once more, brushing the damages as if August just threw a rock at him. August darted immediately, trying to find shelter until... One of them grabbed him by the neck, pinning him against the stable's wall.

August tried to break free, but those bony hands are stronger than expected. He tried kicking, punching, but it felt like these... things just don't give a damn. "Fuck, am I going to die here?" August thought as he closed his eyes. He saw the cloaked figure reaching his shoulder, ready to sink its teeth...

.........................

Suddenly, he dropped to the ground. Grasping for air, he heard a shriek. The cloaked figure was pinned against the wall, squirming in pain from the force of... water aimed at it? "August, get the hell away from there!" Someone shouted.

August blinked, and he saw... a Blastoise? "R-R-R-Rocket!?" He stuttered. Is this a dream?

"Not the time, sport, move it!" Someone tossed him on the shoulder, and he saw the flaming belt glowing red. "James!? How are you... guys alive!?"

Brock ran beside the Incineroar. "Let's focus on exterminating these vampires first, August. You got some garlic? Rocket's water should be effective, but he can't deal with three of them at the same time."

August exhaled, "T-the shed! Jessie was planning on getting some products for her diner, and I stored all of it there!"

The two scarecrows charged at full speed, knowing that the other two vampires are behind their backs. They blocked the doors with their bodies as August opened the bag of garlic.

The three nodded, and James and Brock opened the door. The vampires were surprised by this and fell. Using this opportunity, the Incineroar and Koraidon pinned the vampires, allowing for August to plant the garlic right down their mouths. Their shrieks echoed throughout the room as they disintegrated.

The three let out a collective sigh, relieved that the plan worked. They jolted when they heard some footsteps, but immediately smiled when they see the Blastoise walking towards the trio.

...................

After securing the entire farm, the three scarecrows found themselves inside August's house, not knowing what to say. They had not planned for August to discover this, but considering the situation, it had to be done.

August sighed, bandaging his and James' wounds. "So... I still think this is all a dream, but... You guys are alive, and... your bodies are... not made of straw anymore. How did that happen?"

Rocket explained, "We're... not sure ourselves. I can safely say that we started having control over our bodies once you planted us in this field. Maybe... the soil has magical properties, that might have something to do with us."

James interjected, "Well, regardless, we know that it has something with you." The Incineroar pointed one of its claws at the farmer.

August blinked, "M-me? What do I have to do with all this... mumbo-jumbo?"

Brock chuckled, "We felt your love in making us, August. We saw you when you make your creations. You put a lot of care in the process. Even before we were planted here, we're not sure how, but we can feel it. Maybe the soil itself is actually magical, or maybe we just need to be planted to gain sentience, but in the end..." The Koraidon shrugged.

August sighed, deep in thought. The three Pokemons remained silent. After five minutes of complete silence, August asked, "Then... how did you guys hide your new bodies? I could have sworn that I saw you guys still made of straw during the past few weeks!"

James laughed, "We're not sure either. Brock was the first one to walk around. When we talked that night, we discovered that we can create illusions that will make people see us as the scarecrows you designed. Nice work, by the way, really appreciate all that effort making the flames on my waist." He smiled.

August blushed, "I didn't mean to... I was in the zone and I tend to try achieving for perfection, you know? Just a silly habit of mine."

Rocket grabbed the farmer's shoulders, chuckling. "Relax, bud, we're not complaining! Again, as Brock said, we're glad we get to help you out after what you did to us!"

Brock teared up a bit. "W-we're just glad we got to you in time. N-not sure what to do if you were d-dead, the vampires almost s-snapped your neck."

James comforted the Koraidon, patting his back. "Hey, it all works out fine. Don't think about that, yeah? We know what we're dealing now, and he's safe."

August smiled widely, and hugged the Koraidon. "Exactly. I'm alive, and look at us! I didn't expect to have some friends visiting at this time of night. Seems like I'm not getting forgetful after all." He chuckled. The three cocked their heads at that.

August laughed at this. "Look, I might be distracted with farm stuff, but you guys suck at hiding, now that I think about it. The watered crops, bags getting packed into the shed, no more pests, animals hanging around you guys, messy soil trying to hide that you guys walked around the field? Come on now."

The three blushed at this, with James nudging the Blastoise. "Damn it, Rocket, I told you watering the crops right when he's out and about is a bad idea!"

August smiled, "Regardless, I appreciate your help, truly. Hell, I don't need to hire new workers now. Thanks for the company, guys."

August started the group hug on the three, which ended up on him getting swarmed by three Pokemons. Their tails thumping frantically on the wooden floor.

"Sooooo..." August asked, after getting free. "You guys hungry? I can make something up."

The three shook their heads. Rocket smiled, "Thanks, August, but we don't need sustenance. Sure, we can eat, but we can remain active even without it. You don't need to worry about us."

August pouted. "Awww, you sure?" He smirked. "I can make some delicious sandwiches, you know? I got some briskets, and my neighbors approve of the taste."

The three started drooling over this, and Brock was very excited out of the three. "Y-y-you sure? Well, if you're offering then, I don't see why not!"

James smacked him on the head for this, but all of us laughed. Life in the farm sure will be so much more entertaining with them around.

......................

1 year later...

"Andddd.... there we go!" August said as he finished planting his newest creation. The farmer tended to the crops with Rocket, packing up the harvest with Brock, and feeding the farm animals with James.

It had been a normal activity for the farmer to order some takeouts or cook up an assortment of dishes for his Pokemon companions. Sure, it's busy work, but the farm job is much easier now with three Pokemons helping August out with their infinite amounts of energy.

The four was busy setting up the plates, ready to dine in when they heard some sounds coming out from the field. All of them smiled brightly as they see a Piplup walking out of it. "Welcome to the farm, little guy!" August held Piplup's hand gently towards the empty chair, celebrating the new addition with the feast.

"And to think, I almost wanted to give up on this farm at the start..." August chuckled, internally.
