Guardians Lore: Mass Plasma Drive (MPD)
The Mass Plasma Drive (Referred to as MPD, Mass Drive, or MD for short) is a drive that fires a steady stream of plasma over a large surface area and a high yield that is hardly achieved using phasors or plasma cannons. Depending the ships reactor, the MPD can be continuously used for anywhere between thirty minutes to several hours of continuous fire. While this weapon does fall underneath the super weapon category, it is allowed to be used onboard UGSM Warships and can only be used against other vessels (proved to be ineffective due to how long it takes to charge as well as the accuracy of the weapon begins to degrade as it reaches maximum power output) and enemy encampments. The reason why the MPD is allowed to be used is the ability to control it, and it's yield, to a certain degree to ensure there are no collateral damage compared to most other super weapons (Antimatter missile to name one). It was first build by the Pelzigans in the year 1675 (Human years, during the Pelzigans Golden Age), to be used as a way to mine, get through an asteroid or get to an entrance of a cave system, granted at that time the MPD was a smaller variant and was more of a fine tuned tool to be used. Due to the war with the Draconic Empire, later with the Insurrectionist movement, Humanity, and currently the Lothians, it has been redesigned as a weapon however older models can still be found being used to assist miners.
